| Footballguys view: The Panthers had to do something at running back. Both Mike Tolbert and Jonathan Stewart are out for the foreseeable future (Tolbert on IR/Designated to Return). That leaves banged up DeAngelo Williams as the starter, but there's little depth behind him. Poole is an instinctive runner who can make his living between the tackles, but he's best used in space. He'll compete with Darrin Reaves for touches/time as a backup runner. |

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Tauren Poole appears to be the leading candidate for the No. 4 running back job if the team decides to keep four running backs on their final roster. Poole will have to show he can contribute on special teams if he wants to make the roster.

Poole is not the biggest back, but he's disciplined and can effectively run between the tackles. Maysonet is built low to the ground, and he looks like a poor man's version of Maurice Jones-Drew on the field. |

The Carolina Panthers have agreed to terms with undrafted rookie free-agent WR Brenton Bersin (Wofford), OG Will Blackwell (Louisiana State), DL Nate Chandler (UCLA), RB Princeton McCarthy (Idaho), RB Tauren Poole (Tennessee), Matt Reynolds (Brigham Young), Lyndon Rowells (Humboldt State), DE Ryan Van Bergen (Michigan) and WR Rico Wallace (Shenandoah). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
| Footballguys view: We love the addition of Poole here. During the draft we were surprised someone didn't take a chance on him in the late rounds. Poole had a down senior season (like Arian Foster did when he was at Tennessee) but is a versatile RB who can contribute as a runner, receiver, and return man. |
