Ravens | Nick Boyle the potential starter Sun Jun 11, 09:39 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Nick Boyle is a sleeper candidate to replace free-agent TE Dennis Pitta (hip) as the starter this season, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: A fifth-round pick out of Delaware in 2015, Boyle hasn't done much as a pro with only 24 catches for 197 yards in two seasons. The Ravens have Ben Watson, Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams ahead of Boyle on the depth chart but those guys haven't been practicing due to various injuries. We'll see this play out in training camp, but if those three are healthy then we can't see Boyle winning the job outright. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta waived/injured Wed Jun 7, 01:20 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) was waived/injured Wednesday, June 7.
Footballguys view: That's likely a wrap for his pro career. Hip injuries kept him from staying on the field, but Pitta fought back hard to get back in 2016 and had a great season with 86 catches. The Ravens clear up $2.5 million in cap space with this move and could be in the market for guys like WR Jeremy Maclin or WR Eric Decker. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta has dislocated hip Fri Jun 2, 06:43 PM
Updating an ongoing story, Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) has been diagnosed with a dislocated hip and is expected to undergo surgery at some point, according to a source.
Footballguys view: The surgery will knock him out for the 2017 season. The continued hip problems will likely end his pro career. The Ravens move forward with Ben Watson, Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams as the main TEs on the roster. That's a nice collection, and we'll see which one emerges during the rest of OTAs, minicamp and training camp. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta's career could be over Fri Jun 2, 04:15 PM
Updating a previous report, the Baltimore Ravens fear that TE Dennis Pitta (hip) fractured and dislocated his hip for the third time in the last four years. His career likely will be over if the diagnosis is confirmed.
Footballguys view: Pitta missed all of the 2015 season due to hip problems that limited him to seven games combined in 2013 and 2014. He did have a career resurgence last year with 86 catches in 2016. Now, he's done for the season and perhaps will hang up his cleats. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta suffers another hip injury Fri Jun 2, 03:28 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) reinjured his hip during OTAs on Friday, June 2, and is undergoing tests to determine the severity of the injury, according to general manager Ozzie Newsome.
Footballguys view: This is not good news. We'll learn more about the severity in the near future, but Pitta's career may be done as chronic hip problems have plagued him in recent years. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta takes pay cut Wed Mar 22, 09:50 AM
Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta took a $2.5 million pay cut over the next two seasons. He will make $2.5 million in base salary in 2017 along with a $500,000 roster bonus. He was previously scheduled to earn $5.5 million. This gives Baltimore an additional $2.5 million in cap space in 2017 and 2018.
Footballguys view: Pitta takes the pay cut to add some space to the Ravens cap. He came back healthy last year for the first time in what seemed like forever. Pitta is a favorite target of QB Joe Flacco, and he should continue to be a featured part of the passing game even though the Ravens are stacked at the position. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta could become free agent Wed Feb 22, 10:30 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta is due to make $5.5 million in each of the last two years of his contract, but there is speculation the team may not want to pay him that much despite the fact he is coming off a career-high 86-catch season, according to sources.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta may be asked to rework deal Wed Jan 18, 06:16 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta may be asked to restructure his contract this offseason because of his high salary cap figure for 2017.
Footballguys view: Pitta has a cap number of $7.7 million in 2017, and there's $4.4 million remaining in dead money. He led the league in receptions for TEs (86) this year, but Pitta's production does not match that price tag. We'll see if something gets reworked between the two sides. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta has another strong game Sun Jan 1, 04:35 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta caught 11 passes for 91 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17.
Footballguys view: Pitta's 2016 was inspiring, as his second hip fracture was supposed to end his career. He is still under contract next year, but could be released as his 5.5 million dollar salary will be hard to justify. |

Ravens | Six receptions for Dennis Pitta Sun Oct 16, 08:19 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta rolled up six receptions for 36 yards in the Week 6 game against the New York Giants. He was targeted a team-high 10 times.
Footballguys view: Pitta got the boost in targets that was expected when Steve Smith was announced as inactive, but he didn't turn it into any scores or big plays. That's fine for PPR TE streamers, but that's about all Pitta is good for heading into a matchup with San Diego. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta catches seven passes Sun Oct 9, 06:08 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta caught seven passes for 59 yards against the Washington Redskins in Week 5.
Footballguys view: The score went to Crockett Gillmore and Pitta probably got extra targets because of Steve Smith's injury, but he at least showed that he can take advantage of a good PPR opportunity. He has a good matchup against the Giants and should be worth streamer consideration, especially if Steve Smith can't go. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta has decent outing Sun Sep 25, 05:48 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta caught six passes for 42 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3.
Footballguys view: Pitta is going to be a solid floor PPR tight end play even if he doesn't have a very high ceiling. The Raiders are a good tight end matchup, so if Pitta was your best option this week, he probably will be next week too. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta officially back? Tue Sep 20, 07:54 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta is tied for first among tight ends with 12 catches. He is second with 141 yards and he is third with 16 targets.
Footballguys view: Many didn't think Pitta would ever play football again. Kudos to the Ravens as they allowed Pitta to recover with what was a lengthy timetable and get back on the field. His connection with QB Joe Flacco is strong, and the results have been fruitful this year as Baltimore is off to a 2-0 start. |
Ravens | Dennis Pitta surpasses 100-yard mark Sun Sep 18, 05:20 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta caught nine passes for 102 yards against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2.
Footballguys view: Pitta took advantage of a Browns defense that is very inexperienced. He has emerged as the clear #1 tight end, picking up where he left off before two serious hip injuries. He's worth a pickup and should be considered at worst a good PPR streamer and potentially a solid TE1 play against Jacksonville in Week 3. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta to start Sunday Sun Sep 11, 09:27 AM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) will start Week 1's game against the Buffalo Bills Sunday, Sept. 11.
Footballguys view: Pitta is a reasonable option if you were expecting to start Rob Gronkowski and you have to go to the waiver wire for a start this week. He'll split snaps and targets with Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams, but Pitta is the most accomplished and best receiver of the group. |

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger), OL John Urschel (shoulder) TE Maxx Williams (knee) and CB Shareece Wright (foot) practiced in full Friday, Sept. 9, and are listed as questionable for Week 1.
Footballguys view: Pitta and Williams should play and split the tight end snaps and targets with Crockett Gillmore, but if one or both are out on Sunday, Gillmore becomes a good sleeper. |

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) and Maxx Williams (knee) were full participants in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.
Footballguys view: Pitta is the play here if you need a reasonably priced tight end in daily fantasy. He won't blow anyone away, but we have him as a solid TE2 this week in all formats and he probably won't cost you much in daily games. |

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) and TE Maxx Williams (undisclosed) are participating in practice Saturday, Sept. 3.
Footballguys view: Good news for the Ravens here. With Ben Watson (Achilles') lost for the season, the Ravens need to establish their pecking order at the TE position. Williams should be the top guy at the position, but Pitta and Crockett Gillmore could cut into his playing time. |

Ravens | Two Ravens TEs on the mend Mon Aug 29, 12:47 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) and TE Maxx Williams (undisclosed) are expected to return to practice shortly after the final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 1.
Footballguys view: The Ravens lost TE Ben Watson for the year this weekend, so getting these two back in action helps a lot. Williams is the future at the position, and he reminds many in the scouting community of a young Jason Witten. Pitta was still working his way back from a near career-ending hip injury when this finger injury happened. He hasn't played since early in the 2014 season. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta has broken finger Mon Aug 22, 12:20 PM
Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) is sidelined due to a broken finger, and there is concern that he could need a screw inserted if he returns before it heals.
Footballguys view: Another injury for Pitta. He's trying to come back from major hip problems, and now this finger issue will set him back a bit. The Ravens have a cluster of talented TEs with Ben Watson and second-year pro Maxx Williams leading the depth chart. Even if Pitta is healthy, we don't feel the veteran will make a fantasy impact in 2016. |

Ravens | Two Ravens TEs sit Mon Aug 8, 09:30 AM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) and TE Crockett Gillmore (hamstring) are out of practice Monday, Aug. 8.
Footballguys view: Ben Watson has the starting job held down right now, and 2015 second-rounder Maxx Williams has also had a good summer so far. The Ravens have four good receiving tight ends, but the chances of them all being healthy at the same time seem low. |

Ravens | Competition helping Maxx Williams Sat Aug 6, 08:46 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Maxx Williams has looked healthier and stronger during training camp this year, according to beat writer Mike Preston, and Preston believes the added competition from TE Dennis Pitta and TE Benjamin Watson is making Williams a better player.
Footballguys view: Williams probably won't have fantasy relevance this year, but his improvement is making him poised to take over the Ravens tight end position in the future. He's definitely still worth the stash in dynasty leagues even though he isn't on the redraft radar. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta wants to start Fri Jul 29, 04:07 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) said he wants to win the starting tight end job during training camp. He said he does not believe that he has lost a step even though he missed the last two years because of hip problems.
Footballguys view: Pitta has a chance to play a significant role with two of the wide receivers nursing injuries and Crockett Gillmore already banged up, but there's no assurance that Pitta will look like the player he was before two hip fractures. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta cleared to practice Sun Jul 24, 10:11 AM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) has been cleared to participate in the start of training camp.
Footballguys view: Pitta is attempting an unlikely comeback from two hip fractures, but the Ravens would be happy to welcome back his services on a team with injury issues at wide receiver. If he is good enough to make the team, then Pitta could cost size/speed wide receiver to tight end convert Darren Waller a spot on the 53. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta can still contribute Mon Jun 20, 03:46 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) has looked good, is moving well and is still capable of being a significant contributor, in the opinion of The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec.
Footballguys view: We'd like to believe that is possible, but the Ravens are stacked at the position and there may not be a role for Pitta if he's able to make the team. Ben Watson was added in free agency, and he should be the leader at TE in 2016. Second-year pro Maxx Williams will also start to play a larger role this year. |

Ravens | Maxx Williams tries to stay relevant Wed Jun 15, 12:56 AM
Baltimore Ravens TE Maxx Williams had a promising finish to his rookie season, but he faces plenty of competition for targets with WR Dennis Pitta back from injury and veteran WR Benjamin Watson joining the fray. He cannot afford to fade into the background with all of the competition.

Footballguys view: Pitta is resilient, we'll give him that. This hip problem was supposed to end his playing days in the NFL, but Pitta continues to fight for the chance to make it back. He hasn't played a down since 2014. |

Ravens | Dennis Pitta not giving up Wed Feb 17, 01:04 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) is not giving up on his playing career. 'I definitely do want to be on the field playing football,' Pitta said. 'That's something that I really want to happen.' He continues to work toward playing in 2016, but he's unsure if it will actually happen. Pitta will reportedly make $5 million in base salary this year and will count $7.2 million against the salary cap, so he might need to restructure his contract.
Footballguys view: Pitta got paid without playing last year, but it is doubtful the Ravens would do that two years in row. Pitta could retire to help the team, but with some leverage he might just restructure to get a chance to keep playing, and then retire if his bum hip doesn't respond the way he wants it to. We would expect Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams to split the tight end targets like they did in 2015. |
