Raiders | Coach wants Aidan O'Connell to be more vocal    Wed Mar 27, 04:37 PM

Las Vegas Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell hopefully will be become more vocal with his teammates next season, according to head coach Antonio Pierce. 'One thing I'd love to see him do is be more vocal. You don't want the quarterback being a church mouse. I don't need him to be a rah-rah guy either, but when things are wrong I need him to fix it and be vocal about it,' Pierce said.

Raiders | Antonio Pierce officially named HC    Sat Jan 20, 02:28 AM

Las Vegas Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce was officially named the Raiders new head coach Friday, Jan. 19.

Footballguys view: Mark Davis makes the right move here. The last time an interim head coach had success with the Raiders and was popular with the players (2021, Rich Bisaccia) Davis didn't promote him. Pierce can rally his players, but now we'll see how he does with the full-time gig. We imagine with the support he has from superstars like Maxx Crosby and Davante Adams, Pierce is going to do good work in a tough AFC West.

Raiders | Las Vegas close to naming head coach, GM?    Wed Jan 17, 03:49 AM

Las Vegas Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce is considered the frontrunner to become the team's new head coach, according to sources. Additionally, interim general manager Champ Kelly is considered the favorite to become the team's next general manager.

Footballguys view: Mark Davis may be on the right track here. Pierce has the support of the players, and he did a fine job after he took over for former HC Josh McDaniels. The Titans and Falcons have expressed interest in Pierce, so Davis had better lock his guy down. Kelly has been working his way up the ranks in the scouting community (Broncos, Bears), and he's got a sterling reputation when it comes to talent evaluation.

Raiders | Las Vegas cans head coach, GM    Wed Nov 1, 01:25 AM

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler were fired on Tuesday, Oct. 31. According to sources, linebackers coach Antonio Pierce is expected to be named the interim head coach.

Footballguys view: Josh McDaniels is tough to get along with, and his concepts don't work unless he's with the Patriots and Tom Brady is his quarterback. He's unlikely to be a head coach in this league again after failing with the Broncos and now with the Raiders in that capacity.

NFL | Players always aware of injuries to opponents     Sat Apr 7, 09:38 AM

Former NFL LB Antonio Pierce said former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams' speech, in which he told players to target injured opponents, is nothing new. 'I've heard that speech from seven of the defensive coordinators I've played with in my nine-year career,' Pierce said. 'Think about it, if a guy knows he's going to get hit hard, he's not going to come across that middle.' Pierce, who played under Williams with the Washington Redskins in 2004, called the coach's choice of words 'a little harsh, they're a little tough,' but talked about the awareness of an opponent's injured players. 'Throughout the week we always knew who was injured and what body part was injured,' Pierce said. 'If he's not in the game, our chances of winning are higher. And that's what it's all about. It's all about winning.'

New York Giants LB Jonathan Goff is expected to receive the first opportunity to replace retired LB Antonio Pierce this season, according to Michael Lombardi, of NFL Network.

Footballguys view: Goff started four games last season but will have to beat out both LBs Gerris Wilkinson and Phillip Dillard for the job. According to Lombardi, they should get near equal reps in what should be a close battle in training camp.

'It is healing but I am going to need surgery to continue playing. That's not an option I am looking forward to. It is looking like it is going down that [retirement] path. 'I guess all of those situations are possible,' Spagnuolo said. 'I think the health of the player is probably the most important thing. I'd check on that.'

Footballguys view: Spagnulo and Pierce have a working relationship from their days together with the Giants, and if healthy Pierce could be a key veteran leader on a young defense.

That is the most disappointing part of this, because I feel great and have no pain."

Raiders | Motivated by Pierce's comments    Mon Oct 19, 10:19 AM

Bill Williamson, of ESPN.com, reports Oakland Raiders players were motivated for their Week 6 game after comments made by New York Giants LB Antonio Pierce following Week 5. Pierce said playing the Raiders was like a scrimmage. 'I'm not going to lie, it was noticed by us,' LB Kirk Morrison said. 'We talked about it. We don't want people saying that stuff about us. We all agreed that we were not playing with confidence and it was time to wake up. Those comments really got us going ... Antonio did us a favor by saying those things.'

Raiders | Pierce has harsh words for team    Wed Oct 14, 09:04 AM

Alex Marvez, of FOXSports.com, reports New York Giants LB Antonio Pierce said during a radio interview Tuesday, Oct. 13, that playing against the Oakland Raiders in Week 5 felt more like a scrimmage than a game in the regular season. 'I do not like knocking teams. But right now, they're struggling. We're playing that game the other day and, honestly, it felt like a scrimmage, like a practice. It felt like we were going against our offense (in a controlled setting) as far as the tempo,' Pierce said. 'There was no vibe of trying or effort from the Raiders at all from a defensive standpoint against their offense. We're getting three-and-outs. You don't hear nobody (saying), 'Hey, let's go!' trying to pick the guys up, rallying them, getting guys fired up. There was nothing. It was quiet...'

Footballguys view: This just confirms what anyone can see when they watch the Raiders. Who knows how the season would have gone if they had won the opening game vs. the Chargers? Since then, the Raiders have only been able to beat the winless Chiefs, and that game was against a gimpy Matt Cassel in week 2. They have barely put up a fight in their last three losses to Denver, Houston, and the Giants.

Giants | Grand jury could vote on Pierce by Monday    Mon Aug 3, 11:11 AM

Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News, reports a decision on a possible indictment to New York Giants LB Antonio Pierce could come as early as Monday, Aug. 3. Pierce, who is scheduled to be on the field with the Giants for their first practice of training camp, allegedly took free-agent WR Plaxico Burress' (Giants) gun from the scene at The Latin Quarter club in Manhattan and transported it to Burress' home in Totowa, N.J. The charge he's believed to be facing is the same as Burress - possession of a loaded and unlicensed firearm, which carries a mandatory minimum of 3.5 years in prison.

Footballguys view: Pierce is going so late in IDP drafts right now, that he is still probably the last LB on your bench if you draft him, so you can afford the risk that this becomes a problem for him.
