Raiders | Nathan Peterman sticking around    Fri Aug 30, 10:40 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Nathan Peterman is expected to make the 53-man roster as the No. 3 quarterback, according to a source.

Raiders | Nathan Peterman pushing for backup job    Wed Jul 31, 02:55 AM

Oakland Raiders QB Nathan Peterman is 'growing' on head coach Jon Gruden, who mentioned Peterman's athleticism, smarts and consistency when asked about the team's backup quarterback job.

Footballguys view: Gruden has always liked Peterman, dating back to when he came out of PITT a few years ago. The Raiders only have Mike Glennon as the other quarterback to compete with Peterman to be the primary backup to Derek Carr in 2019.

Raiders | Nathan Peterman on practice squad    Wed Dec 19, 02:37 PM

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders QB Nathan Peterman was signed to the practice squad, not the 53-man roster, according to a source.

Raiders | Oakland signs Nathan Peterman    Wed Dec 19, 02:21 PM

Free-agent QB Nathan Peterman (Bills) is signing an undisclosed deal with the Oakland Raiders Wednesday, Dec. 19, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Peterman is going to the Raiders practice squad according to reports. Jon Gruden did like Peterman coming out of PITT a couple of years ago in the NFL draft. He'll get to develop Peterman and see if his career can be put on track after a disastrous and turnover-laden time with the Bills.

Bills | Derek Anderson could start    Tue Oct 16, 09:23 AM

Updating an earlier report, Buffalo Bills QB Derek Anderson could end up starting for the team in Week 7.

Buffalo Bills QB Nathan Peterman will remain as the primary backup to QB Josh Allen for now despite the signing of veteran QB Derek Anderson, who has only been with the team a couple of days.

Bills | Nathan Peterman the starter    Mon Sep 3, 08:24 AM

Buffalo Bills QB Nathan Peterman was named the starting quarterback Monday, Sept. 3.

Footballguys view: Peterman is just keeping the seat warm for 2018 first-round pick Josh Allen. Fantasy GMs are wisely not expecting much from the Bills passing game in 2018...no matter who the starting quarterback is.

Bills | AJ McCarron, Nathan Peterman on the field    Mon Aug 13, 12:33 PM

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron (leg) and Nathan Peterman (arm) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 13, after both suffered minor injuries during practice Sunday, Aug. 12.

Footballguys view: They're trying to establish a depth chart order during the rest of training camp. McCarron worked with the first-team offense, while Peterman worked with the third-team offense.

Bills | Bills QBs banged up Sunday    Sun Aug 12, 06:22 PM

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron (leg) appeared to have suffered a lower right leg injury during practice Sunday, Aug. 12, but was able to return. QB Nathan Peterman (arm) suffered an apparent right arm injury during practice.

Footballguys view: The path for Josh Allen to start Week 1 against the Ravens is opening, but that's probably a lot better for the Ravens fantasy defense than the Bills offense.

Bills | Nathan Peterman starting Thursday    Thu Aug 9, 06:12 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Nathan Peterman will be the starting quarterback in the first preseason game Thursday, Aug. 9.

Footballguys view: Well, he can only improve from what we saw last season. He's the least likely to win the job, but it's not an attractive group of quarterbacks right now. We're avoiding the whole thing.

Bills | Buffalo not naming QB for preseason game    Tue Aug 7, 03:45 PM

Buffalo Bills QBs AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman may both receive playing time with the first-team offense during the first preseason game, but head coach Sean McDermott said he is not ready to name the starting quarterback for the game.

Footballguys view: The Bills have rookie first-round pick Josh Allen as their quarterback of the future. He'll take over eventually, perhaps early this season but for now we'll continue to see McCarron and Peterman compete for that spot. The Bills passing game should be rough this year for Fantasy GMs, so we're looking forward to Allen playing but only in dynasty formats.

Bills | Nathan Peterman works with starters    Sat Aug 4, 10:15 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Nathan Peterman worked with the first-team offense Friday, Aug. 3, and head coach Sean McDermott said he has a set rotation between Peterman and QB AJ McCarron to ensure that both quarterbacks have plenty of first-team reps in the red zone.

Bills | AJ McCarron takes turn with backups    Sat Aug 4, 10:13 PM

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron worked with the second-team offense Friday, Aug. 3, and head coach Sean McDermott said he plans to rotate first-team reps between McCarron and QB Nathan Peterman.

Footballguys view: The Bills quarterback job is completely up in the air, which is not a good look for a team with the weakest wide receiver corps in the league and three new starters on the offensive line.

Bills | AJ McCarron gets chance with starters    Fri Jul 27, 04:09 PM

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron worked with the first-team offense during practice Friday, July 27. QB Nathan Peterman worked with the starters Thursday, July 26.

Footballguys view: The Bills are going to have one of the worst quarterbacks in the league no matter who starts. Kelvin Benjamin and Charles Clay will get targets by default, but it's hard to believe that they can help make your draft behind a suspect offensive line with McCarron, Peterman, or rough around the edge first-round pick Josh Allen throwing them the ball.

Bills | Josh Allen to start with third-team offense    Wed Jul 18, 06:44 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen is slated to start with the third-team offense when the club begins training camp Thursday, July 26. That's 'the plan as of now, per head coach Sean McDermott,' while QBs AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman both play with the first-team offense.

Footballguys view: That's to be expected, not only because Allen is a rookie but because he primarily ran the third-team offense during OTAs and minicamp. Allen is the quarterback of the future, but if he wins the job for Week 1 of the regular season he's not going to be working with a great group of WRs...and the offensive line has been rebuilt...and who in the world knows what's going on in the LeSean McCoy situation. As you can see, we don't like Allen in redraft leagues but still appreciate his skill set in dynasty formats.

Bills | Josh Allen in mix to start Week 1    Sun Jun 17, 01:55 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen has 'mesmerized fans with his big arm in practice' and, although he'll start the preseason third on the depth chart behind AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman, he also 'has a real chance to be the Week 1 starter,' according to Ben Volin of The Boston Globe.

Footballguys view: Allen is the quarterback of the future, and that's why the Bills moved up to select him in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. He's got a big arm, but his college days at Wyoming were marred by poor accuracy. As a 56 percent passer for the Cowboys, Allen's main thing he needs to improve is his play under pressure. Too often Allen would feel the rush, then launch the ball off his back foot to his first/quickest read...and that led to some wayward passes. His arm is damn near superhuman, but Allen needs to continue picking up the nuances of the game in order to play up to his tremendous potential.

Bills | Nathan Peterman making push to start    Fri Jun 15, 03:33 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Nathan Peterman has looked sharp during offseason practices and 'should be considered a serious contender for the starting job,' according to ESPN's Mike Rodak.

Footballguys view: Peterman had a disastrous rookie season for the Bills in 2017. He replaced Tyrod Taylor as the starter for a brief time, only to lose his opportunity due to multiple interceptions (five INTs in Week 11 vs Chargers). Peterman now is competing with free agent addition A.J. McCarron and 2018 first-round pick Josh Allen to be the team's starter.

Bills | Two QBs splitting Bills' reps    Thu May 24, 11:10 AM

Buffalo Bills QBs AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman are splitting repetitions with the first-team offense, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

Footballguys view: McCarron was signed to be a 'bridge' quarterback for the Bills. He's wanted to be a starter for some time, but McCarron just sat behind Andy Dalton with the Bengals. Peterman was turnover prone (that's being nice) for the Bills last year as a rookie, and he shouldn't be much of a threat for the starting job. We all know that Josh Allen, 2018 first-round pick out of Wyoming, is set to be the quarterback of the future when he develops.

Bills | Bills starting QB gig to be determined    Wed Apr 4, 11:55 PM

Buffalo Bills QBs AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman will take part in an 'open competition' for the role of starting quarterback, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

Footballguys view: It's hard to imagine Peterman winning this battle, but we have little idea what AJ McCarron can really do. And, of course, there is the issue of whether the Bills draft a quarterback.

Bills | Nathan Peterman out of protocol    Mon Dec 18, 02:06 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Nathan Peterman (concussion) cleared the concussion protocol Monday, Dec. 18.

Footballguys view: Peterman is cleared but he'll just be a backup with Tyrod Taylor back in action. In a couple of appearances this year, the rookie from PITT has not shown well. He was a dynasty prospect to be intrigued with, but Peterman hasn't flashed in 2017. Peterman will need to stay healthy and perform better if he wants to stick with the Bills as a reserve in 2018.

Bills | Nathan Peterman the likely starter    Sat Dec 9, 12:22 AM

Buffalo Bills QB Nathan Peterman received all the first-team reps in practice this week, and Sal Maiorana of the Democrat and Chronicle said it would be 'utterly shocking' if Peterman wasn't the starter against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 14.

Footballguys view: Bills coach Sean McDermott said Tyrod Taylor (knee) will be a game-time decision for Sunday's game against the Colts. We'd consider Taylor a streaming option if he was healthy, but it looks like Peterman is going to get the nod instead. Let's just hope for Bills fans sake the rookie doesn't throw five interceptions again.
