Vikings | Frazier hints that ADP could start camp on PUP Tue Jun 26, 07:00 PM
Judd Zulgad, from 1500 ESPN, reports Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier hinted that RB Adrian Peterson could begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform List. "He's moving around without any hitch, he's doing a lot of good things," Frazier said. "What you don't know is how he's going to be when you put pads on and someone comes and they dive at his ankle or they look as if they're going to grab his knee. That you can't predict. But based on where he is today, everything is moving in the right direction. I don't know if we'll put him on the practice field anytime soon when we get to Mankato. But everything indicates there's a very good chance he may be ready for that Jacksonville game. We're still far enough out that you really can't say that right now."
Footballguys view: No surprise here. Peterson is back to sprinting and cutting on his surgically repaired knee, but the team is going to be very cautious with him in camp. Even when the regular season begins we could see Peterson eased into the lineup. This would make Toby Gerhart the primary back for the Vikings during that time. |

Vikings | Converting Gerhart to FB not a good fit Mon Jun 20, 01:50 PM
Mike Wobschall, from Vikings.com, doesn't believe the team should convert second-year player Toby Gerhart to a fullback because it's not a good fit for his skill set.
Footballguys view: Gerhart is not a fullback, and is not a Mike Alstott type of runner. We've always compared Gerhart to a Jerome Bettis type of back. When in college at Stanford Gerhart patterned his game after Falcons RB Michael Turner. He won the 2009 Doak Walker Award as the nation's best collegiate RB and is quicker and shiftier than some think. |

Vikings | RB Peterson would welcome WR Burress Wed Jun 15, 06:07 PM
Judd Zulgad, from the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Vikings RB Adrian Peterson would welcome the chance to play with free agent WR Plaxico Burress. "Of course, I would love him to be a part of my team," Peterson said. "I'm not really the type to judge. I really don't know [Burress] personally like that, just what you see on TV. I feel like people change, so we'll see if he changed for the better."
Footballguys view: The Vikings may have interest in Burress if they lose Sidney Rice via free agency. |

Vikings | Peterson working out with QB Young Thu May 12, 04:53 PM
KPRC-TV in Houston reports that during the NFL Lockout, Vince Young is staying home in Houston working with longtime trainer James Cooper. "I've been working out a long time," Young said in an interview. "It's good to get out here just like you were at an OTA. Doing it more here because we are not allowed at the facilities," said Young. Three to four days a week, Young is joined by the likes of Adrian Peterson and other NFL stars and free agents pushing each other and creating a bond.
Footballguys view: Just because Young is working out with Adrian Peterson doesn't mean that he's headed to Minnesota. We expect the Vikings to add a veteran QB, either through trade or free agency, to tutor rookie Christian Ponder. With Ponder's durability questions they also need veteran insurance as Joe Webb is not ready for even a part time starting job. |

Seahawks | Adrian Peterson signed Fri Aug 13, 03:16 AM
The Seattle Seahawks have signed free-agent RB Adrian N. Peterson (Bears) to an undisclosed deal, reports The Sports Network. The team released WR Matt Simon.
Footballguys view: Peterson is a great special teamer, but we doubt he'll do much on offense for the Seahawks if he makes the team. |

Broncos | Adrian Peterson worked out Wed Aug 4, 04:55 PM
The Denver Broncos worked out unrestricted free-agent RB Adrian N. Peterson (Bears) Wednesday, Aug. 4, reports The Denver Post's Mike Klis.
Footballguys view: The former Chicago Bears player might find a home with the Broncos because of the recent injuries to Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter. |

Vikings | Gerhart's role still in the making Fri Apr 30, 02:11 PM
Scout.com reports the Vikings traded up to draft RB Toby Gerhart, but it remains to be seen exactly how they will use him. He isn't the prototypical "third-down back," but he did show good hands in workouts the Vikings brass attended.
Footballguys view: We love the pick of Toby Gerhart, who could be a starter for other teams in the NFL. With Chester Taylor moving on to the Bears, it opened up a spot behind superstar Adrian Peterson. Gerhart reminds us of Jerome Bettis because of his size and surprisingly nimble feet. He's a good receiver out of the backfield and has a nose for the endzone. Like Peterson, Gerhart has trouble holding onto the football sometimes and had six fumbles lost last year for Stanford. |

Vikings | Tragedies sticking with RB Johnson Thu Apr 15, 11:06 AM
Scout.com reports running back James Johnson, who signed with the Vikings in January, is looking forward to putting the Bengals' tragic 2009 season behind him and competing for playing time in Minnesota. Johnson said he hopes for a fresh start with the Vikings and that 2010 will help erase the tragic memories of the 2009 season he and his Bengals teammates endured. He said he has earned a ton of respect for his teammates from Cincinnati, who could have buckled as the 2001 Vikings did. Instead, they rallied together from the tragedy and honored the dual losses to their team family by winning their division title and putting the Bengals back on the NFL map. "Something like that could make you or break you," Johnson said. "It brought us together."
Footballguys view: Johnson was a versatile back in college, and can be an effective receiver out of the backfield if he stays healthy. He will compete with RB Albert Young and converted WR Darius Reynaud for playing time behind Adrian Peterson. |

Vikings | Peterson limited in practice with a back injury Wed Sep 23, 06:22 PM
The Associated Press is reporting Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was limited in practice Wednesday with a back injury. The NFL's leading rusher was listed on the team's injury report, three days after rushing for 92 yards and a touchdown against the Lions. The team hosts San Francisco this Sunday.
Footballguys view: This injury isn't believed to be serious, and Peterson should be listed as probable on the injury report. |

Bears | Content with backs behind Forte Sat Sep 5, 06:02 PM
Brad Biggs, of The Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears appear content moving forward with RBs Adrian N. Peterson and Garrett Wolfe behind starter Matt Forte. RB Kevin Jones (ankle) was expected to see a larger role this year, but now that he is out for the year Forte may not come off the field much. He played in 84 percent of the team's snaps last year.
Footballguys view: Forte's value is already high, and now with the injury to Kevin Jones it has climbed even higher. The Bears may be content with the backs behind Forte, but they are watching the waiver wire closely today. They would be wise to sign a player like Darius Walker, who the Broncos let go today. Adrian N. Peterson doesn't run with much authority, and is an overall below average player. Garrett Wolfe is small, but he's no Darren Sproles. Wolfe can rack up some yardage when he's in space, but goes down too easily, and can't run through arm tackles. |

Vikings | Peterson becoming a better receiver Tue Aug 11, 07:25 PM
Chip Scoggins, from The Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Vikings head coach Brad Childress said he sees improvement from Adrian Peterson in terms of pass blocking, route running and his comfort level catching passes out of the backfield. "He's not a satisfied guy," Childress said. "He's not sitting back on his laurels, patting himself on the back. He wants to be well-rounded, he wants to be diversified. While he may be as good a running back as there is in the league, he wants to be great in all facets. You've got to give it to him from the standpoint of working on your weaknesses or your perceived weaknesses or getting better at something you can get better at."
Footballguys view: Adrian Peterson is already one of the best runners in the game today, and improving his ability in the passing game will only make him a more dangerous player. Peterson may have a bigger role in this offense which is saying a lot because he was involved in 65% of the offensive plays last year. |

Bears | Peterson, Wolfe to compete for No. 3 job Tue Jul 7, 04:38 PM
Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears RB Adrian N. Peterson and RB Garrett Wolfe will compete for the No. 3 running back job during training camp.
Footballguys view: Biggs speculates that one of them might not make the roster when all is said and done. Wolfe is the small change of pace back from Northern Illinois and a standout on special teams. Adrian Peterson "the other Peterson" is from Georgia Southern and has provided good depth for the Bears the last few seasons. Peterson is not very creative with the ball in his hands as a runner or receiver. Wolfe is good with the ball in space, but is too easily arm tackled and consistently gets swallowed up by the defense. The Bears have a good RB tandem with Matt Forte and Kevin Jones, but they would be in trouble if either (especially Forte) were to go down with injury. |

Vikings | A. Peterson says added weight won't slow him down Sun May 17, 03:50 PM
In an effort to be more durable Adrian Peterson is bulking up but promises the added weight won't affect his speed. "A lot of guys say, 'You [gain] 5, 10 pounds it's going to slow you down a notch or this or that.' My mindset, I feel like I can put on 20 pounds and keep my same speed, my same flexibility. That's the mindset I have. So, I feel like I can accomplish that."
Footballguys view: Peterson states that right now he weighs a "solid" 218 lbs. Every player in the NFL takes a beating, but Peterson loves to dish out punishment more than most backs. |
