Titans | Signing Jordan Palmer    Mon Dec 15, 03:49 PM

The Tennessee Titans are signing free-agent QB Jordan Palmer (Bills) Monday, Dec. 15, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Titans want some veteran experience here. Plus, they needed to add another QB because Jake Locker (shoulder) is lost for the season.

Bills | Reduce roster    Fri Aug 29, 04:26 PM

The Buffalo Bills cut LB Xavius Boyd, DT Landon Cohen, TE Dominique Jones, CB Kamaal McIlwain, CB Sam Miller, P Brian Moorman, QB Jordan Palmer, FB Evan Rodriguez, WR Naaman Roosevelt and OL Jared Wheeler Friday, Aug. 29.

Footballguys view: None of these should come as a surprise. Without Palmer, the team will need to add a veteran backup. They currently only have Jeff Tuel as the primary backup behind E.J. Manuel.

Bills | Jordan Palmer signs    Tue Aug 26, 10:00 AM

The Buffalo Bills signed free-agent QB Jordan Palmer (Bears) to an undisclosed deal.

Footballguys view: There's a real shot Palmer will see playing time this year with EJ Manuel's injury history and struggles in the NFL. The Browns holding the Bills first-round pick next year looks ideal.

Bears | Jordan Palmer released    Sun Aug 24, 06:45 PM

The Chicago Bears released QB Jordan Palmer.

Footballguys view: Marc Trestman does it again! Last year he rejuvenated the career of Josh McCown as the backup to Jay Cutler. This year, Trestman has turned Panthers bust Jimmy Clausen into a decent player. Behind Cutler, we could see Clausen actually have fantasy value in the event of an injury.

Bears | Jordan Palmer has first shot at No. 2 QB job    Wed Jul 23, 03:38 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jordan Palmer still has the first shot at winning the backup quarterback job, according to head coach Marc Trestman.

Footballguys view: Palmer is likely to win the backup job behind Jay Cutler this year. Last year's backup, Josh McCown, moved on in free agency and is now the starter for the Buccaneers. Palmer's main competition for the spot could be free agent addition Jimmy Clausen. The Bears picked up Clausen earlier this offseason as he was looking for a fresh start. Rookie David Fales (San Jose State) could stick on the roster as a third-string developmental quarterback.

Bears | Jimmy Clausen could be in line for No. 2 QB job    Sat Jul 19, 12:32 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jimmy Clausen appears poised to beat QB Jordan Palmer for the No. 2 quarterback job during training camp.

Footballguys view: It would be an incredible redemption story for Clausen if he makes the team. He washed out quickly in Carolina, but he's getting a fresh start in Chicago. Clausen is working under the guidance of renowned QB guru Marc Trestman. The Bears head coach should be able to get the best out of him. We'll see if Clausen looks like a new man in 2014, and we'll see how much of a fight Palmer puts up in the preseason.

  NFL | Veteran-heavy 2015 UFA QB class    Sun Jun 15, 12:26 PM

The NFL's scheduled unrestricted free-agent quarterback class for 2015 features 14 players who will be at least 30 years of age, including Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (39), St. Louis Rams QB Shaun Hill (35), Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (35), New York Jets QB Michael Vick (34), Cincinnati Bengals QB Jason Campbell (33), New Orleans Saints QB Luke McCown (33), Seattle Seahawks QB Tarvaris Jackson (32), Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith (31), Oakland Raiders QB Trent Edwards (31), Chicago Bears QB Jordan Palmer (31), Detroit Lions QB Dan Orlovsky (31), Cleveland Browns QB Tyler Thigpen (31) and Miami Dolphins QB Matt Moore (30). Estranged Dallas Cowboys QB Kyle Orton (32) is also scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, although he is reportedly leaning toward retirement.

Footballguys view: Any team looking for a solid veteran backup will have plenty to choose from. The only one of this list who could still be an effective starter is Carson Palmer. We'll see if Arizona tries to sign him to a new deal if he impresses in 2014.

Bears | Jordan Palmer out of team drills    Wed Jun 11, 02:28 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jordan Palmer (undisclosed) did not participate in team drills Wednesday, June 11. He did throw some passes in individual drills. This was the same case last week.

Footballguys view: Without Palmer in team drills it opens the door for Jimmy Clausen and rookie David Fales to show what they can do. We like Fales because of his elite anticipation and accuracy underneath. He's an interesting player to monitor in super deep dynasty leagues.

Bears | Jimmy Clausen brought in to create competition    Sun Jun 8, 03:02 PM

Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman said QB Jimmy Clausen was brought in to create competition for QBs David Fales and Jordan Palmer and was not necessarily an indication that he is dissatisfied with either of them. 'I told (Palmer) we were going to bring in another quarterback who had some experience, and that we were going to continue to keep the competition open on a daily basis,' Trestman said. The Bears will re-evaluate the quarterback situation at the end of OTAs.

Footballguys view: We're surprised that the Bears added Clausen. We like Fales as a rookie developmental quarterback because of his accuracy and elite anticipation. Palmer is a decent veteran backup behind Cutler, so there's no room for Clausen. We'll see if Clausen can push his way onto the roster.

Bears | Jordan Palmer to get first chance at No. 2 QB job    Sun May 18, 10:05 PM

Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman said QB Jordan Palmer will receive the first chance to win the No. 2 quarterback job during training camp and the preseason. Palmer will be competing with QB Jerrod Johnson and David Fales for the job.

Footballguys view: Palmer is a seasoned veteran, and he works well with Trestman. "Double clutch" Jerrod Johnson is just a camp arm. Fales is an intriguing rookie with great anticipation and accuracy. We're expecting Fales to be the third-string developmental QB in 2014.

Bears | Marc Trestman endorses Jordan Palmer    Tue May 6, 04:48 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jordan Palmer's lack of on-field experience or age (29) do not concern head coach Marc Trestman. He compared Palmer's work ethic to former Bears and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh McCown. Trestman noted not every quarterback follows the same career path and others have blossomed late in their careers.

Footballguys view: Palmer is a decent backup, but the Bears would be in trouble if he was pressed into starting duty. They were fortunate last year to have Josh McCown on the roster behind Jay Cutler. Trestman's system is quarterback friendly, and he should be able to make Palmer an effective reserve player.

Bears | GM thinks Jordan Palmer can be backup    Thu May 1, 11:36 PM

Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery said he believes QB Jordan Palmer can be the team's No. 2 quarterback this upcoming season.

Footballguys view: Palmer is a seasoned veteran, and he could certainly be the primary backup behind Jay Cutler. Right now, "Double Clutch" Jerrod Johnson is the team's third-string quarterback. There's a chance the Bears select a developmental quarterback at some point (likely later) in the 2014 NFL draft.

Bears | Could target a quarterback    Sat Apr 19, 09:47 AM

The Chicago Bears could target a quarterback in the late rounds of the NFL Draft or in free agency to provide competition for backup QB Jordan Palmer.

Footballguys view: The Bears need a young quarterback to groom behind Jay Cutler. This draft is top heavy at quarterback, but there are a few mid- to late-round options that would work. We think Brett Smith (Wyoming) would be a great fit with Bears head coach (and noted quarterback guru) Marc Trestman.

Bears | Two players re-signed    Sun Mar 9, 10:07 PM

The Chicago Bears have re-signed free-agent QB Jordan Palmer and DT Nate Collins to one-year deals. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Bears | Jordan Palmer could return    Fri Mar 7, 09:29 PM

The Chicago Bears may have interest in re-signing impending free-agent QB Jordan Palmer this offseason.

Updating a previous report, the Chicago Bears officially re-signed free-agent QB Jordan Palmer (Bears) Monday, Oct. 21. TE Steve Maneri was released to make room on the 53-man roster.

Footballguys view: The Bears needed to make a move since they'll be without QB Jay Cutler for some time. Josh McCown will be the starter while Cutler misses time with a groin injury. Palmer will be the backup behind McCown.

Bears | Jordan Palmer, Trent Edwards to play one half    Wed Aug 28, 05:28 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jordan Palmer will start the final preseason game and play the first half while QB Trent Edwards will play the second half.

Bears | Jay Cutler to play first half Friday    Tue Aug 20, 12:42 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler is expected to be on the field for a minimum of one half in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 23, against the Oakland Raiders. Backup QB Josh McCown is expected to play in the third quarter, with QB Jordan Palmer scheduled to play the fourth quarter.

Footballguys view: It's week three of the preseason which is essentially a dress rehearsal for the regular season. We'll see many teams use their starters at least a half if not more this week.

Bears | Top two QBs won't play preseason finale    Tue Aug 20, 12:33 PM

Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman said Monday, Aug. 19, that neither QB Jay Cutler nor QB Josh McCown will play in the preseason finale Aug. 29, against the Cleveland Browns. QBs Trent Edwards and Jordan Palmer will get a chance to earn a job, likely splitting the reps. QB Matt Blanchard (hand) was in line to be the third quarterback, but he suffered a hand injury which might sideline him up to a month.

Footballguys view: The team is set at the top two QBs. We'll see if Palmer or Edwards can make enough of an impression so the team will keep them around on the 53-man roster.

Bears | Two new QBs will play in last preseason game    Mon Aug 19, 06:35 PM

Chicago Bears QBs Jordan Palmer and Trent Edwards will be the only two quarterbacks to play in the team's final preseason game. QBs Jay Cutler and Josh McCown will sit the game out.

Footballguys view: Not a surprise here. The final preseason game is always for the younger players who are trying to make a final impression and make the team. Cutler and McCown are locked into the final roster. We'll see if Palmer or Edwards can impress enough for the team to keep them around in 2013.

Bears | Sign Jordan Palmer    Fri Aug 16, 02:30 PM

The Chicago Bears signed QB Jordan Palmer (Jaguars) Friday, Aug. 16. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Bears | Looking to add third quarterback    Fri Aug 16, 01:51 PM

Updating a previous report, the Chicago bears are looking to add a third quarterback after the team lost QB Michael Blanchard (hand) with a broken non-throwing hand. 'I'm not sure about the time that he'll be out, but we're sitting here with two quarterbacks going into next week,' Bears coach Marc Trestman said. 'Certainly that's something that we're gonna have to repair fairly quickly to get a third quarterback on the roster.'

Jaguars | Trio could return if price is right    Fri Mar 1, 09:47 PM

Impending free-agents QB Jordan Palmer, RB Jalen Parmele and OL Steve Vallos each could be retained by the Jacksonville Jaguars if they come back as minimum wage players.

Footballguys view: We'd like to see Parmele stick around. After years of waiting for his opportunity to start we saw Parmele get a shot in 2012. In a week 11 game against Houston he had 24 carries for 80 yards. The next week against Tennessee he started out strong with 8 carries for 45 yards until getting knocked out from the contest with a groin injury.

Jaguars | Chad Henne still No. 2 QB    Mon Aug 20, 03:40 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said QB Chad Henne is still considered the No. 2 quarterback even though QB Jordan Palmer led a game-winning drive at the end of each of the first two preseason games. Mularkey did not rule out the idea of keeping three quarterbacks on the final roster.

Footballguys view: Henne or Palmer won't see the field much this year unless Blaine Gabbert is hurt. Gabbert's going to be given every opportunity to prove himself this year after struggling mightily as a rookie in 2011. Henne has a lot more experience than Palmer as a starter and is likely to win the backup job.

Jaguars | Uncertain if they'll keep two or three QBs    Fri Jun 22, 10:07 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars are uncertain if they'll keep a third quarterback behind QBs Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne. QB Jordan Palmer is on the roster, and QB Nathan Enderle was added Friday, June 22. Smith said the team will keep three if the third quarterback is in the team's top 53 players. '(The practice squad quarterback) would have to be good enough to hopefully be a third or we would have to go to the street and get a veteran,' Smith said. 'And we've done that before. You can keep your quarterback healthy. That is our goal with our pass protection.'

Footballguys view: We see Palmer and Enderle as camp arms for the Jaguars. Henne should be the primary backup behind second-year starter Blaine Gabbert. Sources close to the team believe Gabbert will have a long leash this year as the starter. Henne won't see the field unless Gabbert really struggles for a long time in 2012.

Bengals | Five players waived    Sat Aug 27, 02:37 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals have announced they have waived QB Jordan Palmer, WR Jamere Holland, LB Stephen Franklin, CB LeRoy Vann and FS Tom Nelson.

Footballguys view: No more Palmer's on the Bengals roster. Second-year QB Dan LeFevour will serve as the team's third-string QB behind Andy Dalton and Bruce Gradkowski.

Bengals | May only keep two quarterbacks    Fri Aug 26, 01:36 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals played just two quarterbacks -- Andy Dalton and Bruce Gradkowski -- Thursday, Aug. 25, in their third preseason game. It appears the team is considering entering the season with just two quarterbacks on roster. Backup QB Jordan Palmer appears to be the odd man out if they do keep three, as he has not played in the past two preseason games. QB Dan LeFevour would likely be the third option if the Bengals choose to retain three signal callers.

Footballguys view: Gradkowski is a gamer, but he has not proven to be durable over the course of his career. A decision to keep only two QBs could come back to haunt the Bengals unless they just don't think LeFevour or Palmer fit in offensive coordinator Jay Gruden's scheme.

Bengals | Interested in Terrelle Pryor?    Mon Aug 22, 10:47 AM

The Cincinnati Bengals might consider former Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor in the league supplemental draft after the lackluster performance of QBs Jordan Palmer and Dan LeFevour in training camp. Pryor could serve as a No. 3 quarterback who could run some Wildcat.

Footballguys view: Taking Pryor seems like a move the Bengals would make. There's reportedly five teams interested in selecting Pryor in the Supplemental Draft. Cincinnati would have to compete with teams like the Raiders, Seahawks, Dolphins, and Bills for Pryor's services.

Bengals | Andy Dalton will continue to get most snaps    Thu Aug 4, 03:48 PM

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said QB Andy Dalton will continue to get more snaps during practice over QBs Bruce Gradkowski and Jordan Palmer.

Footballguys view: The Bengals see Dalton as their franchise QB of the future, and hope that the future is now. Veteran Bruce Gradkowski was added as a free agent but hasn't been able to practice with the team because of CBA rules. The team has a competition for the starting job but it's obvious they would like Dalton to beat out Gradkowski.

Bengals | Bruce Gradkowski veteran mentor for young QBs    Thu Jul 28, 12:25 AM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Bruce Gradkowski provides the Bengals with a veteran quarterback to help mentor rookie QB Andy Dalton. Gradkowski has experience with offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, as the two spent time together with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bengals will enter training camp with Dalton, Gradkowski, Jordan Palmer and Dan LeFevour at quarterback, which marks the first time since 2008 they've entered camp with more than three quarterbacks.

Footballguys view: We have a feeling both Palmer brothers will not be playing for the Bengals this year. Gradkowski gives the team veteran insurance in case Dalton is hurt or simply isn't ready to be the starter. He could also help groom LeFevour who has good upside and a similar skill set.

Geoff Hobson, from Bengals.com, believes rookie QB Andy Dalton will open as the starter in training camp. However, the camp starter doesn't necessarily mean he'll begin the season as the starter.

Footballguys view: Bengals OC Jay Gruden is very excited to work with Dalton and the team will give him every opportunity to win the job for good in camp. They have Jordan Palmer and Dan LeFevour on the roster but may add another veteran free agent QB to the mix.

Bengals | Jordan Palmer not the answer at QB    Fri Jul 1, 10:17 AM

'Jordan Palmer's not the answer, absolutely not,' Jones said. Asked what he would think of Jordan Palmer starting, Jones replied: 'I would question the decision, absolutely.'

Footballguys view: In other news, water is wet. Jordan Palmer is not the same type of prospect as his older brother Carson. The Bengals are set to move forward with Andy Dalton as their franchise QB, and Jordan Palmer should stick around as the primary backup.

Bengals | QB LeFevour could surprise in camp    Fri Jun 24, 01:34 PM

Cecil Lammey, NFL Insider for FRSN and senior writer at Footballguys.com, reports via Twitter that according to sources close to the team Bengals second-year QB Dan LeFevour could surprise some in training camp.

Footballguys view: LeFevour played in the spread offense at Central Michigan and could excel under the guidance of new offensive coordinator Jay Gruden. The team selected Andy Dalton in the second-round of the 2011 NFL Draft to be their QB of the future, but LeFevour may be a nice developmental prospect himself. We say LeFevour is a 'hold' in deep dynasty leagues.
