Dolphins | David Fales second on depth chart    Thu Jul 26, 02:18 PM

Miami Dolphins QB David Fales worked with the second-team offense during practice Thursday, July 26, while QB Brock Osweiler was the third quarterback to receive snaps. Osweiler threw the only two interceptions during practice.

Footballguys view: This comes as shock to absolutely nobody who has followed Osweiler's career of unimpressive stop after unimpressive stop. That isn't to say Fales is outstanding, just that his brand of mediocrity is better than Osweiler's right now. Long story, short though -- if Ryan Tannehill is hurt or implodes, the Dolphins are cooked.

Dolphins | Brock Osweiler has problems with accuracy    Fri Jun 15, 04:14 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Brock Osweiler struggled with his accuracy during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: This headline could be from any year of Osweiler's pro career. He's bounced around the league during his short time in the NFL with two stops with the Broncos where he failed to grasp the long-term starting job. Looking for a second chance with the Dolphins, Osweiler will compete with David Fales for the backup job behind Ryan Tannehill in 2018.

Dolphins | David Fales closing in on backup gig?    Sat Jun 9, 11:33 PM

Miami Dolphins QB David Fales has been better in OTAs than QB Brock Osweiler, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, and Jackson believes Fales is currently the leading candidate to win the backup job.

Footballguys view: Fales has always thrown with great anticipation, but his arm strength is lacking a leaves a lot to be desired. Osweiler has a rocket arm, plenty of starting experience and could close the gap or just win the job behind Ryan Tannehill outright in training camp and the preseason. Neither one of these quarterbacks are interesting dynasty prospects.

Dolphins | David Fales could win backup gig    Fri May 11, 09:40 PM

Miami Dolphins QB David Fales was impressive in his Week 17 start last year and will have a chance to compete with QB Brock Osweiler to be the backup quarterback in 2018, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Footballguys view: Fales has a quick throwing motion and he's got great anticipation as a passer. His arm strength isn't the greatest and he's not the biggest guy either. We'll see if he can beat out Osweiler for that backup job to Ryan Tannehill in 2018.

Dolphins | Brock Osweiler not guaranteed job    Wed May 9, 09:09 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Brock Osweiler is considered the leading candidate for the No. 2 quarterback job entering training camp, but QB David Fales could win the job if Osweiler struggles during the preseason.

Footballguys view: Osweiler was with the Broncos last year but didn't do anything to impress in a handful of games. He's trying to get his career back on track with a familiar coach in Adam Gase. Osweiler was with Gase during his first stint with the Broncos.

Dolphins | Brock Osweiler contract update    Thu Mar 29, 03:18 PM

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins QB Brock Osweiler signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins and will receive a $790,000 base salary in 2018. The deal includes a $90,000 signing bonus.

Footballguys view: Osweiler might actually get a shot at starting, as at this point Ryan Tannehill doesn't seem like the team's answer at the position. The Dolphins may also draft a quarterback. Osweiler isn't exciting, but his familiarity with Adam Gase might bear fruit.

Dolphins | Brock Osweiler finds new home in Miami    Fri Mar 23, 04:22 PM

Free-agent QB Brock Osweiler (Broncos) agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Miami Dolphins on Friday, March 23.

Footballguys view: Dolphins head coach Adam Gase was part of Osweiler's development in Denver and helped turned the quarterback into a millionaire many times over. He is unlikely to be an upgrade from Matt Moore, who had his share of strong games as the Dolphins backup and briefly, starter since 2011.

Dolphins | Brock Osweiler visiting Miami    Thu Mar 22, 11:57 AM

Free-agent QB Brock Osweiler (Broncos) is visiting the Miami Dolphins Thursday, March 22.

Footballguys view: Osweiler and Adam Gase worked toether in Denver, but considering Jay Cutler and Gase were old buddies and that didn't work out, that fact doesn't excite anyone. Osweiler made his money, now he just needs to find someone who will let him play backup, which appears to be his upside.

Broncos | Paxton Lynch not ready to start?    Wed Dec 20, 05:57 PM

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch (shoulder) and head coach Vance Joseph did not appear to be confident that Lynch would be ready to start in Week 16 after missing three weeks of action, according to Mike Klis of 9news.com.

Footballguys view: Lynch still looked like he was favoring his ankle injury during practice today. The team wants him to be at full strength since running is a big part of his skill set. We could see Brock Osweiler start against Washington on Sunday.

Broncos | Denver's start will be decided later     Tue Dec 19, 02:26 PM

Denver Broncos QBs Brock Osweiler and Paxton Lynch (ankle) won't know who is starting Week 16 until the end of the week, according to general manager John Elway.

Footballguys view: Lynch should be the starter if the team feels he's done the work (and is healthy enough) to get on the field. Elway and the Broncos want to see how Lynch fares in practice before making a decision. They need to see Lynch as much as possible as the 2016 first-round pick has only made three starts in two seasons.

The Denver Broncos are not expected to add a third quarterback to their roster to back up QBs Brock Osweiler and Paxton Lynch (ankle) for the final two games of the regular season, according to head coach Vance Joseph. Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler completed 12 of his 17 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns and ran three times for 17 yards and a score in a 25-13 win over the Indianapolis Colts Thursday, Dec. 14.

Footballguys view: Osweiler will be the starter against Washington next week and Kansas City in Week 17. He could be a QB2/Superflex consideration coming off of the best performance of his career.

Broncos | Brock Osweiler practices    Fri Nov 17, 06:16 PM

Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler (shoulder) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 17, and is not on the injury report for Week 11.

Footballguys view: Osweiler is a little banged up, and his time as the starter for the team may be running out. If he struggles (or the Broncos lose their sixth game in a row), the Broncos may finally turn to 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch. Keep this in mind in deep leagues (start 2 QB or QB-flex) where starting QBs are hard to find on the waiver wire.

OT Donald Stephenson (calf) logged a full practice Friday, Nov. 17, while WR Cody Latimer (knee, Achilles') was limited; both players are listed as questionable. RB Jamaal Charles (non-injury related), LB Todd Davis (ankle), WR Bennie Fowler (ankle), DE Adam Gotsis (hamstring), OG Ronald Leary (elbow), LB Brandon M.   Broncos | Brock Osweiler practices in full Thursday    Thu Nov 16, 06:35 PM

Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler (shoulder) practiced in full Thursday, Nov. 16.

Footballguys view: We didn't see anything last week that showed us Osweiler was any more of the answer then he was when Denver let him head to Houston. If you are in a bye week bind, or need a replacement for someone in a two quarterback league, Osweiler could fill that hole. But he is no better than a QB3.

Broncos | Brock Osweiler not full go     Wed Nov 15, 05:45 PM

Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler (shoulder) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Footballguys view: Osweiler says the injury is 'no big deal' and he should start on Sunday against the Bengals. It might be his last start as 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch is getting closer to full strength and could take over if/when Osweiler struggles.

Broncos | Brock Osweiler to remain starter    Mon Nov 13, 04:05 PM

Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler will be the starting quarterback against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11.

Footballguys view: Osweiler isn't an exciting option for fantasy owners. The Broncos passing game did show a bit of life against the Patriots in a blowout loss. Things might be more balanced on offense against the Bengals this week.

Broncos | Brock Osweiler to start again    Mon Nov 6, 03:06 PM

Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler will be the starting quarterback against the New England Patriots in Week 10, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Osweiler didn't look good against the Eagles defense in Week 9, throwing two interceptions and leading the team to only one touchdown drive. He'll have a better matchup against the Patriots defense, but he's nothing more than a QB2 for fantasy owners. If he struggles again this week, expect the Broncos to turn to 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch at some point.

Broncos | Brock Osweiler struggles in start    Sun Nov 5, 08:58 PM

Broncos | Brock Osweiler to start    Wed Nov 1, 11:12 AM

Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler was named the starter in Week 9.

Footballguys view: Osweiler was drafted by the Broncos in the second round of the 2012 NFL draft and he spent four years with the team, mainly as the backup behind Peyton Manning. He left in free agency before the 2016 season and took a big money deal with the Houston Texans. He lasted only one year there, bounced to the Browns in a salary dump move, and now finds himself as the top guy in Denver. He has chemistry with these WRs (Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders) and has the confidence of his teammates around him because of his previous stint in Denver. The Broncos travel to face the Eagles in Week 9. Philadelphia has the 26th ranked pass defense and give up an average of 256.8 passing yards per game.

Broncos | Denver QB change unclear    Tue Oct 31, 10:35 AM

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler would be the replacement for QB Trevor Siemian, according to sources for NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported QB Paxton Lynch likely would be the starter, if the team made a move. Rapoport points out that Lynch has three practices in the new offense.

Footballguys view: Lynch had the whole offseason, most all of training camp and three games in the preseason in this new offense. He was a first-round pick in 2016 and the team needs to evaluate whether or not he's cut out to be the quarterback of the future.

Broncos | Brock Osweiler agrees to terms    Sun Sep 3, 08:09 AM

The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms with free-agent QB Brock Osweiler (Browns) on a one-year deal, pending a physical which will take place Monday, Sept. 4. The Browns will have to pay the bulk of Osweiler's $16 million salary, with the Broncos only responsible for giving him the league minimum.

Footballguys view: Paxton Lynch is hurt and the team needs a backup. If Trevor Siemian doesn't show progress, the team could turn back to Osweiler in quick completion of the circle of life.

Browns | Brock Osweiler released    Fri Sep 1, 05:02 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler was released Friday, Sept. 1, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Osweiler could get signed before Week 1, but with the lack of interest in him via trade and passers like Matt Barkley and Matt McGloin out there, he might be waiting a bit for new work in the NFL. The Browns basically paid 16 million dollars for a second round pick, but they were flush with money.

Browns | Cody Kessler starting preseason finale    Thu Aug 31, 06:13 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler will start the club's preseason finale Thursday, August 31, against the Chicago Bears, with QB Kevin Hogan replacing him. QBs DeShone Kizer and Brock Osweiler will be rested during the game.

Footballguys view: Maybe they don't want Kaiser to get hurt maybe they don't want Osweiler hurt either in case someone wants to trade for him or at least so they don't have to pay him for medical injury. Whoever ends up being the quarterback in Cleveland, is unlikely to have much in the way of value so we would avoid this situation.

Browns | Brock Osweiler to be traded again?    Wed Aug 23, 05:36 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler is once again the subject of trade rumors, according to a source. QB DeShone Kizer will start in Cleveland's third preseason game, while Osweiler is not expected to play.

Footballguys view: This was the thought process when the Browns picked up Osweiler in a trade that looked more at home in the NBA. Osweiler has had a bad preseason, while Kizer is their quarterback of the future - potentially. The team can always go with Cody Kessler until Kizer is ready.

Browns | Brock Osweiler to sit    Wed Aug 23, 10:43 AM

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler is not expected to play in the third preseason game, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Osweiler has been beyond bad this preseason. Perhaps the Browns don't want him to get hurt the rest of the way so they can move him in a trade. With a $16 million salary (and his play), we don't see teams lining up for him - no matter the trade price. We'll see if the Browns are comfortable just releasing Osweiler.

Browns | Brock Osweiler unimpressive again    Mon Aug 21, 11:30 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler completed 6-of-8 passes for 25 yards and also threw an interception Monday, August 21, opposite the New York Giants.

Footballguys view: Osweiler is fighting Cody Kessler and rookie DeShone Kizer for the starting spot. The interception was tipped at the line (a problem for Osweiler) and he was generally unimpressive. The Browns could name a starter sometime this week.

Browns | Teammate expects Brock Osweiler to start    Wed Aug 16, 07:12 PM

Cleveland Browns OT Joe Thomas said he believes QB Brock Osweiler will open the season as the starting quarterback based on what he has seen during practice.

Footballguys view: Osweiler has more experience than Cody Kessler and he's been doing more than any other Browns quarterback in camp. Rookie DeShone Kizer could be the quarterback of the future, but it looks like Osweiler could be the starter to begin the 2017 regular season.

Browns | Brock Osweiler, DeShone Kizer splitting reps    Sat Aug 12, 05:05 PM

Cleveland Browns QBs Brock Osweiler and DeShone Kizer are splitting snaps with the first-team offense during practice Saturday, Aug. 12.

Footballguys view: Osweiler is the starter for now, but Kizer is likely the future of the team. If Kizer continues to show well, then he could win the starting job at some point during the year...even perhaps at the start of the season.

Browns | Quarterback job Brock Osweiler's to lose?    Wed Aug 9, 01:41 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler will not only start the team's preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday, Aug. 10, but ESPN's Pat McManamon believes there is 'probably a 75-percent chance' Osweiler keeps the job if he leads the offense 'sufficiently' in that contest.

Footballguys view: This is probably about the lack of upside Cody Kessler offers and the team not wanting to rush DeShone Kizer more than Osweiler blowing them away. The team could also be trying to build a trade market for him. Either way, Osweiler doesn't help the outlook of any Browns offensive player.

Browns | Brock Osweiler to start preseason game    Mon Aug 7, 08:11 AM

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler will be the starter for the first preseason game Thursday, Aug. 10.

Footballguys view: Osweiler hasn't been getting many first-team reps in camp, and this doesn't necessarily mean that he is in the lead to start. Cody Kessler hasn't impressed in practices by any measure and DeShone Kizer might not be ready yet, so the team is assessing Osweiler to see if he can be a viable starter. He obviously wouldn't enhance the value of any of his targets.

Browns | Brock Osweiler could start preseason opener    Sat Aug 5, 07:33 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler has seen little, if any, time with the first-team in training camp, but ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi reports Osweiler could be the new starter in the practice week and in the preseason opener Thursday night against the New Orleans Saints after taking over for an ineffective Cody Kessler during practice Friday, Aug. 4.

Footballguys view: Regardless of who is under center, we are super-hesitant to invest in the Browns quarterback situation. Let's be honest though, a start for Osweiler is a chance to see what he's like under fire in the offense and perhaps show him off as a potential piece of trade bait to a team with quarterback issues.

Browns | Brock Osweiler could start Week 1    Thu Aug 3, 05:37 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler is still an option to start Week 1 even though he is not working with the first-team offense during training camp, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

Footballguys view: Osweiler could also end up not on the Week 1 roster. He isn't generating any buzz in Cleveland's camp and there doesn't appear to be a trade market for him.

Browns | Cody Kessler will take first snap at camp    Wed Jul 26, 12:14 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler will compete with rookie DeShone Kizer, Brock Osweiler and Kevin Hogan for the starting job in camp. While head coach Hue Jackson did not give a timetable to name a starter, he acknowledged Kessler 'deserves the chance to walk out there first.'

Footballguys view: DeShone Kizer may be the future of the team at the quarterback position but they can't just hand him the job. Kessler is an average starting option but he's going to be accurate on underneath/short routes. Kizer has the big arm and athleticism but he needs to make quicker and better decisions as a passer if he wants to have success as a starter.

Browns | Cleveland QB battle a two-man race?    Tue Jul 11, 02:46 PM

Cleveland Browns QBs Cody Kessler and DeShone Kizer are in an apparent two-man race for the starting quarterback position, according to Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer. Kessler and Kizer split first-team repetitions throughout minicamp, with QB Brock Osweiler working with the second team. Furthermore, Cabot expects head coach Hue Jackson to name a starter shortly after the preseason begins.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Kessler could handle the starting job for the Browns, but he's not an exciting option or a playmaker at the position. Instead, he's more of a game manager who can work the field on short/underneath routes. Kizer could be the quarterback of the future if he develops further as a passer. The rookie from Notre Dame is big, strong and athletic. However, he does 'bird dog' his throws and stares down his targets. Plus, he struggles to make quick decisions when forced off his first read. We'll see if he's improved during training camp and the preseason.

Browns | Cody Kessler to be first in drills    Mon Jun 12, 06:22 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler likely will continue to be the leading quarterback during drills at the upcoming minicamp even though head coach Hue Jackson said he considered changing the quarterback rotation. Kessler has been followed by QBs Brock Osweiler, DeShone Kizer and Kevin Hogan during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: Kessler has the experience from last year, but he'll have to be a bit more daring this year to win the starting job. Osweiler may be the main competition for the job (if he makes the team), while Kizer is seen as a potential QB of the future.

Browns | Brock Osweiler impressing    Wed Jun 7, 08:37 AM

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler has impressed in organized team activities, and one player privately predicted Osweiler would be the starter heading into camp in July.

Footballguys view: That's...interesting, but there's a long way to go before the start of the regular season. Osweiler has more experience than Cody Kessler and he's got a stronger arm too. Even if he wins the job, we don't see any of the Cleveland QBs as viable fantasy options.

Browns | Brock Osweiler eyeing starting gig    Thu May 25, 10:52 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler worked mainly with the second-team offense Wednesday, May 24, but he said his expectation is to start.

Browns | Cody Kessler top option for now    Sat May 6, 04:52 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler appears to be the leading candidate for the starting quarterback at this point since he is the only quarterback on the roster with any experience in head coach Hue Jackson's offense.

Footballguys view: That would make the most sense at this time. Kessler is expected to compete with QBs Brock Osweiler and DeShone Kizer for the job. We'd be shocked if Osweiler makes the 53-man roster, and Kizer is seen as a potential franchise QB....with a lot of work to go. Kessler is efficient as a passer, but he's not a player fantasy owners are going to be clamoring for.

Browns | Cleveland not expected to add another QB    Sat May 6, 11:47 AM

Cleveland Browns executive vice president Sashi Brown told WKNR 850 AM he does not anticipate the team signing another quarterback. The Browns added second-rounder DeShone Kizer in the draft and already have Cody Kessler, Brock Osweiler and Kevin Hogan on the roster.

Footballguys view: They don't need to add another quarterback! They already have one or two too many. The battle in Cleveland may not draw much fantasy interest as nobody is really excited about drafting guys like Cody Kessler or Brock Osweiler. However, we will be monitoring the progress of DeShone Kizer in dynasty leagues. He's got the potential to be the franchise QB the Browns have been searching for ever since they came back into the league in 1999.

Browns | DeShone Kizer in the mix for starting job    Sat Apr 29, 09:44 AM

Cleveland Browns QB DeShone Kizer will get the opportunity to compete for the team's starting quarterback job with QBs Cody Kessler, Kevin Hogan and Brock Osweiler, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

Footballguys view: Kizer has a big arm and he's mobile, but he's raw as a decision maker. When he does go to throw, Kizer is not afraid to challenge a defense deep but he's got a tendency of locking onto his target. Kizer should also work on speeding up his delivery. The Browns don't have a great group of quarterbacks, but they've worked diligently to build a good offensive line and that's going to help any passer taking snaps in 2017.

Browns | Brock Osweiler to compete for starting job    Wed Apr 19, 01:33 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler will compete for the starting job in camp, according to executive vice president Sashi Brown.

Footballguys view: That's what they say right now, but there's still a good chance that Osweiler is traded or released before training camp starts. He's reported to voluntary workouts and the team is treating him like he could actually have a spot on the 53-man roster...for now.

Browns | CLE still wants to dump Brock Osweiler    Tue Apr 4, 10:11 PM

The Cleveland Browns still plan on moving QB Brock Osweiler, 'whether in a trade or an outright release.' The club would like to continue to develop QB Cody Kessler, and as a result, Osweiler could be dealt on draft weekend, or the Browns could choose to cut him and try to recoup some of his $16 million salary.

Footballguys view: Osweiler showed enough to at least be considered as a reclamation third quarterback if he gets released, but it doesn't appear that there are any takers willing to give up even minimal draft compensation for Osweiler. The Browns might be willing to eat most of his salary, but this part of their gambit is probably not going to bear fruit.
