Jets | Brandon Marshall insults Jay Cutler Sat Jul 18, 09:23 PM
New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall said Thursday, July 16, that former QB Kyle Orton was the best quarterback he has played with in his career.
Footballguys view: Is it an insult for Cutler, or is it just the truth? Cutler has a rocket arm, but he hasn't taken to coaching well and he makes bad decisions with the football far too often. If Orton is the best QB Marshall has played with, then Geno Smith is going to seem like Joe Namath for the veteran receiver. |

Bills | EJ Manuel has opening Mon Dec 29, 10:07 AM
Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel is the only quarterback on the roster, following QB Kyle Orton's retirement Monday, Dec. 29.
Footballguys view: There are sources close to the Bills that say they're not done with Manuel. We're a bit surprised by this given how quickly they pulled the plug on him in 2014. Manuel is athletic and has a big arm, but decision making and accuracy have been huge problems for him. We'll see if he gets another shot to prove himself in Buffalo. |

Bills | Kyle Orton retires Mon Dec 29, 10:02 AM
Buffalo Bills QB Kyle Orton has announced his retirement Monday, Dec. 29.
Footballguys view: Orton "retired" last year too when he was with the Cowboys. He can still be a somewhat effective starter in the league, but Orton just doesn't have a fire to keep playing like other guys do. Perhaps some team can lure him out of retirement next year before training camp. |

Bills | EJ Manuel won't play in Week 17 Wed Dec 24, 05:51 PM
Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel will not play at all in Week 17 against the New England Patriots, even though the Bills have been eliminated from the playoffs. QB Kyle Orton will remain the starter for the season finale because he continues 'giving the team the best chance to win,' according to head coach Doug Marrone. Marrone said he hasn't had any talks with the team brass about the future of the quarterback position for the team. Manuel is due to count $2.4 million against the salary cap next year, and releasing him would create $5.25 million in dead money.
Footballguys view: There are sources close to the team that say they're not done with Manuel despite him getting benched in his second year. Manuel is athletic and has a strong arm, but he has little control on his passes. |

Bills | Kyle Orton to start this week Tue Dec 23, 04:20 PM
Buffalo Bills QB Kyle Orton will start Week 17, according to head coach Doug Marrone. Marrone said he'll play the players who give the team the best chance to win.
Footballguys view: LOL. Yes, Orton is better than E.J. Manuel, but that's not saying much. The Bills are up against the Patriots in Week 17. |

Bills | Buffalo to stick with Kyle Orton Thu Dec 11, 03:12 AM

Bills | Kyle Orton limited again Thu Nov 20, 04:36 PM
Buffalo Bills QB Kyle Orton (toe) was limited for the second straight day in practice Thursday, Nov. 20. The Bills did not actually practice Thursday, so Orton's status is an estimation.
Footballguys view: The Jets are a tempting target for any fantasy quarterback, and we have him as a QB2. We don't know when the game will be played or where, much less in what conditions and the Bills aren't practicing so they will come into the game cold (pun not intended). So there is an element of the unknown to this, but if you're stuck he's worth the risk. |

Bills | Kyle Orton to start Mon Sep 29, 03:39 PM
Buffalo Bills QB Kyle Orton will start Week 5 in place of QB EJ Manuel, according to head coach Doug Marrone.
Footballguys view: Wow, just wow. Orton is a seasoned veteran, but Manuel was supposed to be the franchise quarterback for the Bills. We'll get more information about this in the near future, but right now it's a shocking move. Manuel has struggled this season, but most young quarterbacks are allowed the time to work through these issues. Orton's insertion into the starting lineup doesn't mean the team will fill the air with footballs. He should heavily target rookie WR Sammy Watkins..and the checkdown options. |

Bills | Doug Marrone didn't want Kyle Orton Fri Sep 5, 08:26 PM
Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone recently had a testy exchange with team officials within earshot of players, and it apparently stemmed from his unhappiness with the decision to sign QB Kyle Orton so late in the calendar, according to a league source.
Footballguys view: EJ Manuel's confidence certainly has to have taken a hit upon hearing of the acquisition, but if he can't find the belief in himself to solidify his hold on the job, he wasn't cut out for it anyway. Orton being in would hamper the running game a bit because he doesn't offer a running threat, but it would boost the passing game. |

Bills | Agree to deal with Kyle Orton Fri Aug 29, 09:25 PM
The Buffalo Bills and free-agent QB Kyle Orton (Cowboys) agreed to terms on a one-year contract Friday, Aug. 29. Financial terms were undisclosed.
Footballguys view: There's a good chance Orton will start at some point this year for the Bills. Orton will serve as the primary backup to starting QB EJ Manuel, and we might see Manuel banged up again this year because of his reckless playing style. |

Bills | Looking for QBs Fri Aug 29, 06:00 PM
The Buffalo Bills are watching the quarterback market, and could be interested in bringing in free-agent QB Kyle Orton (Cowboys).
Footballguys view: The Bills QB situation is a mess right now. Even their starter, E.J. Manuel, is not the greatest option. Manuel has the raw tools, but so far he hasn't put it all together. Behind him, Jeff Tuel isn't going to make any positive impact either. |

Bears | Open to Kyle Orton reunion Mon Aug 4, 02:33 AM
Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery would accept QB Kyle Orton on his roster if Orton wanted to play again in 2014.
Footballguys view: The Bears lost a valuable backup when Josh McCown moved on in free agency to start in Tampa Bay. Orton would be an option for the team if they're not happy with the performance of either Jordan Palmer or Jimmy Clausen. Rookie David Fales is more of a project/developmental type player. |

Free-agent QB Kyle Orton (Cowboys) does not want to retire and wants to play in 2014, according to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

The Dallas Cowboys are releasing QB Kyle Orton, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Orton just wanted to retire. The Cowboys will move on with Brandon Weeden and Caleb Hanie as the primary backups behind Tony Romo. Releasing Orton will add $1.12 million in dead money to the team's 2014 salary cap and $2.25 million to their 2015 salary cap. |

Cowboys | Brandon Weeden not concerned with Kyle Orton situation Tue Jul 8, 04:59 PM
Dallas Cowboys QB Brandon Weeden is working on learning the team's offense and getting better, and is not concerned with the situation surrounding QB Kyle Orton. "I'm going to go about my business the same way regardless. I haven't met Kyle, so I can't really speak on it, but whatever he decides to do - it's kind of out of my control," Weeden said. "So what I'm worried about is, if I'm running with the twos out there, do my job to make the twos better. I want to make the team better any way I can, so it doesn't change my mindset or the way I feel about it."
Footballguys view: Owners of Dallas Cowboys skill players should take note of this. As uninspiring as Kyle Orton was last year, he is probably still a better option than Weeden if Tony Romo goes down. Orton's desire to play has seemed questionable since he turned down a chance to start elsewhere when he signed as a backup with Dallas. |

If Dallas Cowboys QB Kyle Orton decides to return for the 2014 season, the team is expected to have three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster for the first time in several years.
Footballguys view: Keep dreaming Dallas. At this time, it seems like Orton is going to stay away from football. If he does retire or hide or whatever he's doing right now, the Cowboys would turn to Caleb Hanie and Brandon Weeden. Those two would compete to be the primary backup behind Tony Romo in 2014. |

Footballguys view: Keep dreaming Garrett. We can't see Orton showing up because he wants to retire. Either way, it doesn't matter much for fantasy owners. If Tony Romo gets hurt, the team could turn to Brandon Weeden as the starter. He lacks the experience of Orton, but he's not a complete drop off the cliff from Orton. |

Cowboys | Kyle Orton not in attendance Tue Jun 17, 01:53 PM
Dallas Cowboys QB Kyle Orton is not at the team's minicamp Tuesday, June 17, according to a source. Orton is strongly considering retirement.
Footballguys view: Orton seemed to lose his nerve after a strong finish to 2011 with the Chiefs. He had a chance to start with them or another team, but instead signed a deal to be the backup in Dallas. Brandon Weeden's signing could be very timely for a team that might need a backup QB. |

NFL | Veteran-heavy 2015 UFA QB class Sun Jun 15, 12:26 PM
The NFL's scheduled unrestricted free-agent quarterback class for 2015 features 14 players who will be at least 30 years of age, including Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (39), St. Louis Rams QB Shaun Hill (35), Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (35), New York Jets QB Michael Vick (34), Cincinnati Bengals QB Jason Campbell (33), New Orleans Saints QB Luke McCown (33), Seattle Seahawks QB Tarvaris Jackson (32), Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith (31), Oakland Raiders QB Trent Edwards (31), Chicago Bears QB Jordan Palmer (31), Detroit Lions QB Dan Orlovsky (31), Cleveland Browns QB Tyler Thigpen (31) and Miami Dolphins QB Matt Moore (30). Estranged Dallas Cowboys QB Kyle Orton (32) is also scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, although he is reportedly leaning toward retirement.

Cowboys | Expect to speak with Kyle Orton soon Fri Jun 13, 03:21 AM
Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett told media he expects to speak with QB Kyle Orton soon. Orton has skipped the team's voluntary offseason program and would have to repay the club $3 million of his $5 million signing bonus if he retires.
Footballguys view: Orton has fallen out of love with football. He was never really a "lifer" regardless of the little success he had as a pro. Orton was happy to leave Denver and be a backup in Dallas. Even though he might have been able to start elsewhere, he would rather be a reserve player. We're not shocked by this situation, and wouldn't be surprised if he just retires. |
