Broncos | Looking like Orton will not play Week 11 Sat Nov 21, 07:49 PM
Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports, as of Saturday, Nov. 21, Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton's (ankle) ankle has not healed enough to be able to play in Week 11. All signs are pointing to QB Chris Simms starting the game.
| Our view: Bad news for the Broncos. Even if Chris Simms plays twice as good as he did in the second half last week, it won't be nearly good enough to beat the Chargers, because Simms played as bad as Derek Anderson or JaMarcus Russell at their worst. |

Broncos | Orton to be game-time decision Fri Nov 20, 01:43 PM
Updating a previous report, ESPN.com reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton (ankle) will be a game-time decision in Week 11.
| Our view: This doesn't bode well for Denver. Even if Orton plays, his mobility will be limited and the Chargers will be on the attack. Expect a heavy dose of Knowshon Moreno for as long as the game is close. |

Broncos | Orton will not practice Friday, could play Week 11 Fri Nov 20, 12:58 PM
Frack Schwab, of the Colorado Springs Gazette, reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton (ankle) will not participate in practice Friday, Nov. 20, but head coach Josh McDaniels said Orton has a chance to play Week 11. Orton will be listed as questionable for the game.
| Our view: The classic game time decision here. Orton's status has been shrouded in mystery this entire week - perhaps because coach McDaniels doesn't want to tip his hand before this key divisional matchup. If Orton does play it is a good thing for the Broncos passing game because Chris Simms is unlikely to do much in his place on Sunday. |

Broncos | Orton misses practice Thursday Thu Nov 19, 03:04 PM
Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton (ankle) missed his second straight practice Thursday, Nov. 19, with a severely sprained ankle. He is still hoping to play in Week 11.
| Our view: Orton suffered an ankle injury last year when he was starting for the Bears, and after he came back after the injury he didn't look like the same quarterback. The Broncos are in trouble if Orton can't give it a go, as Chris Simms would be forced to start. This is a huge game against the Chargers for the division lead in the AFC West, and Simms would likely struggle once again this week. |

Broncos | Orton has torn ligaments Wed Nov 18, 11:38 PM
The Associated Press reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton (ankle) has torn ligaments in his left ankle. However, he is still hoping to start in Week 11. 'I'll come back as fast as I can and try to lead the football team and try to be in the huddle just like everybody else,' Orton said. 'In this sport, you've got to play when you are dinged up, and the quarterback is no different.'
| Our view: That Orton is preparing to play this week is an indictment of Chris Simms as much as it's a statement on Orton's physical condition. The Broncos can't afford to lose this one, so it's looking like a gimpy Orton will give it a go. |

Broncos | Orton misses practice Wednesday Wed Nov 18, 08:28 PM

Broncos | Orton misses practice Wednesday Wed Nov 18, 03:07 PM
Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton (ankle) did not practice during the media portion of practice Wednesday, Nov. 18.
| Our view: This game against the Chargers on Sunday is huge for the Denver Broncos. Once they had a 3 1/2 game lead on San Diego in the division, but entering week 11 they are currently tied for the division lead. Orton gives the Broncos the best chance to win, and the last time these two teams played Denver was able to abuse the Chargers defense through the air. |

Broncos | Orton to play in Week 11 Tue Nov 17, 12:04 PM
Michael Lombardi, of NFL Network, reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton (ankle) will play in Week 11 despite an injured left ankle.
| Our view: This is good news for the Denver Broncos, as Chris Simms looked terrible in his one half of play against the Redskins. It's an all important game at home against the Chargers, with the division lead hanging in the balance. We'll have to see what Orton can do on that ankle because he had a similar injury last year in Chicago and didn't look like the same player after his return. |

Broncos | Orton's status will be known later in week Mon Nov 16, 04:19 PM
The Associated Press reports Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels said the team will not know if QB Kyle Orton (ankle) will be able to play until later in the week.
| Our view: Kyle Orton is very important to the Broncos offense as Chris Simms looked lost on Sunday against the Redskins. Denver had the lead when Simms took over, yet couldn't seal the victory against a team that has struggled this year. Last year in Chicago Orton sustained an ankle injury, missed one game, but then came back and played. However, he didn't look like the same quarterback after the injury because the injury changed the way he set up to throw the football and was always on his mind. We'll see if Orton struggles once again post-injury this year. |

Broncos | Orton throws two TD passes Week 10 Sun Nov 15, 05:34 PM
The Associated Press reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton (ankle) was 11-for-18 for 193 yards with two touchdown passes Week 10 against the Washington Redskins. Orton limped to the locker room after suffering an ankle injury and was replaced by QB Chris Simms, who went 3-for-13 for 13 yards and an interception in the game.
| Our view: Orton struggled tremendously after an ankle injury last season, so this injury could be significant even if Orton is able to return next week. The play of Simms wasn't at all reassuring for the fantasy prospects of Brandon Marshall or Eddie Royal. |

Broncos | Orton says offense needs to make more plays Thu Nov 12, 02:23 PM
Frank Schwab, of the Colorado Springs Gazette, reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton said the offense needs more big plays to have more success. 'We have also got to find a way to make some bigger plays, no question about it,' Orton said. 'It's tough to always rely on eight-, 10-play drives to score points, but it would be great to find ways to score in three- or four-play drives.'

Broncos | Orton throws three picks Week 9 Tue Nov 10, 12:44 AM
The Associated Press reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton was 23-for-38 for 221 yards with three interceptions Week 9 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
| Our view: Orton was forced out of his comfort zone when the Broncos fell behind in the second half, and the Steelers defense capitalized. |

Broncos | Orton expects physical game Week 9 Wed Nov 4, 03:02 PM
Mike Chambers, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton said he expects the team's Week 9 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers will be a very physical. 'We're going to have to play physical. We're going to have to play smart. We're going to have to play our best game,' Orton said. 'We feel like we got a physical football team and certainly Pittsburgh prides (itself) on that, too. So it will be a hard-hitting game and whoever can win that battle will have a good chance to win.'

Broncos | Orton held in check Week 8 Sun Nov 1, 05:26 PM
The Associated Press reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton went 23-for-37 for 152 yards in the team's Week 8 game.
| Our view: The Baltimore defense kept the Broncos in front of them all day. Orton didn't make any critical mistakes, but also wasn't able to extend drives and get into a rhythm. |

Broncos | Orton not worried about contract situation Thu Oct 22, 12:50 PM
Aaron Wilson, of the National Football Post, reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton said he is not worried about his contract situation and will let his agent and the Broncos work on a possible new deal.
| Our view: Orton's a true professional, and he's more focused on keeping this offense humming. He's been a great fit in Josh McDaniels system, and even if he hit free agency we believe he'd want to stay in Denver. This situation will get worked out eventually, and both Brandon Marshall and Orton could see big deals in the near future. |

The Denver Post reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 5. Orton was 35-for-48 for 330 yards with two touchdowns against the New England Patriots. It is the first time in his five-year career Orton has won the award.

Broncos | Orton throws for 330 yards Week 5 Sun Oct 11, 08:16 PM
The Associated Press reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton was 35-for-48 for 330 yards with two touchdown passes Week 5.
| Our view: Orton looked more comfortable in the pocket and showed a stronger arm in this game than he had earlier in the year. With Brandon Marshall playing well and the rush offense succeeding, Orton could be a surprisingly strong QB2 option during the bye week portion of the fantasy schedule. |

Broncos | Orton practicing without glove Wednesday Wed Oct 7, 03:32 PM
Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton is not wearing a glove on his right hand during practice Wednesday, Oct. 7. He had been wearing a glove to protect an injured finger.
| Our view: The glove has become almost like a good luck charm in the eyes of some Broncos fans, so we'll see if Orton can beat the Patriots without it. Only early in the Dallas game did the glove seem to bother him at all in the first four weeks, and now that he's back to normal he should be good to go. |

Broncos | Orton solid Week 4 Sun Oct 4, 08:20 PM
The Associated Press reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton was 20-for-29 for 243 yards with two touchdown passes Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys.
| Our view: Orton's touchdown pass to Knowshon Moreno should have been intercepted, and he underthrew the game-winner to Brandon Marshall (which Marshall created with his run after catch ability), but Orton did his job of keeping the Broncos in the game. Just know that this is his fantasy ceiling, even in a Josh McDaniels offense, because the defense is way better than advertised and it will allow him to play game manager all year. |

Broncos | Marshall appears to be coming on Tue Sep 29, 07:39 PM
Frank Schwab, of the Colorado Springs Gazette, reports Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall appears to be coming on. Denver got favorable matchups against Marshall by lining him up tight and working him across the middle against a safety or linebacker. Marshall appears to be the top option, and he should get better as he gets more comfortable with QB Kyle Orton and the offense.
| Our view: Marshall's talent can only be held back by his brain. As long as he's in a "good teammate" phase, he should be safe to leave in your lineup. |

Broncos | Orton throws TD pass Week 3 Mon Sep 28, 02:18 AM
The Associated Press reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton was 13-for-23 for 157 yards with a touchdown pass Week 3 against the Oakland Raiders.
| Our view: This is what we're going to see from Kyle Orton all year if the Broncos get their way. Efficient, and effective is the name of the game for this McDaniels offense, and there could be several games where Orton doesn't throw it more than 25 times. Orton has not thrown an interception this season, and the gameplans are working as the Broncos are 3-0. |

Broncos | Orton played with glove Week 2 Sun Sep 20, 11:58 PM
CBSSports.com reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton (finger) decided to wear a glove to protect his right index finger again Week 2. Orton said he is hoping to lose the glove for the team's Week 3 game.
| Our view: The glove hasn't been a problem for Kyle Orton, as he's played both games with it on. His velocity has been good, and his spirals tight. We're sure Orton will feel more natural when the glove comes off, but we don't expect an increase in performance because of it. |

The Associated Press reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton was 19-for-37 for 263 yards with a passing touchdown Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns.
| Our view: Orton still hasn't clicked with this offense, and he still hasn't tapped the immense potential this passing game has with weapons like Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal. We wouldn't drop him, but he hasn't lived up to sleeper status just yet. |

Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton (finger) will be able to play in the team's Week 2 game, but may have to wear a glove on his hand during the game.

The Associated Press reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton (finger) had stitches removed from his index finger after the team's Week 1 game. He hopes to be able to play without wearing a glove in Week 2.

Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton (finger) worked with the first-team offense during practice Friday, Sept. 11. He will start in the team's Week 1 game barring a setback.

Broncos | Orton's playing status comes down to a combination of things Tue Sep 8, 08:24 PM
Continuing a previous storyline, Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels said QB Kyle Orton (finger) did pretty good in practice Tuesday, Sept. 8, but had some restriction due to his finger injury. In regards to Orton's playing status for Week 1, McDaniels said it will come down to a combination of the healing process and how effective he can be. 'If he's able to be the most effective guy we have got, then he'll certainly play,' McDaniels said.
| Our view: McDaniels is hedging his bets by phrasing his answer that way, but we have to think Orton will be more effective that Chris Simms coming back from a high ankle sprain and rookie Tom Brandstater as long as his finger is still attached. |

Broncos | Simms expects Orton to start Week 1 Tue Sep 8, 05:34 PM
Arnie Stapleton, of The Associated Press, reports Denver Broncos QB Chris Simms said he expects QB Kyle Orton (finger) to start in Week 1.

Frank Schwab, from the Colorado Springs Gazette, reports on his twitter feed that QB Kyle Orton wore a glove, threw passes with no issues, all spirals, even handed off with his right hand.
| Our view: This is good news for the Broncos because Orton's finger injury could have been much more severe. If Kurt Warner can throw effectively with gloves on, why not Kyle Orton? As long as the gloves aren't the same Mickey Mouse style that David Carr wore in Carolina, we're good with the fashion statement. |

CBSSports.com reports Denver Broncos QBs Kyle Orton (finger) and Chris Simms (ankle) will practice this week. Orton is scheduled to start in Week 1 if he is healthy enough to play.
| Our view: There are some Broncos fans that believe rookie Tom Brandstater should be the starting quarterback, but the reality is that Kyle Orton is going to be the starter all season if he can stay healthy. Chris Simms provides the Broncos with quality depth at the position, but he hasn't outplayed Orton during his time with the team. |

Broncos | Orton could miss Week 1 Tue Sep 1, 10:33 AM
Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton (finger) is in danger of missing the team's Week 1 game. According to two league sources, Orton's finger was not fractured during the team's last preseason game, but Orton did suffer an open dislocation of the right knuckle, which would explain the blood dripping from his finger and the excruciating pain he endured as the dislocated finger was popped back into place.
| Our view: A dislocation is not as serious as a fracture, and Orton claims that he will be ready to go for the regular season opener against the Bengals. Orton and Chris Simms will not play this week, which leaves only rookie Tom Brandstater and journeyman Ingle Martin to take snaps in the Broncos preseason finale. |

Adam Schefter, of ESPN.com, reports Denver Broncos QB Chris Simms (ankle) sustained a high-ankle sprain, according to a team source, and could be out of action anywhere from two to four weeks.
| Our view: We wonder if the Broncos regret passing up Matt Gutierrez when the Patriots released him after signing Andrew Walter. High ankle sprains have a tendency to linger, and the Broncos can't feel comfortable with rookie Tom Brandstater as the main backup to Kyle Orton. Speaking of Orton, regardless of how he plays there is no QB controversy in Denver, and the injury to Simms only solidifies that. |

Broncos | Orton improves in second showing Sun Aug 23, 06:28 AM
The Associated Press reports Denver Broncos fans were relieved to see QB Kyle Orton's second preseason start wasn't a train wreck like his first one. Orton finished the game going 18-of-26 for 182 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He had completed 16-of-19 passes with a touchdown before being picked off. Orton only went deep once all night, but said he was playing with an awful lot of confidence.
| Our view: Orton did look like a different quarterback when compared to his first preseason outing. In the Broncos game against the 49ers he was driving the team efficiently on the first drive, but after getting picked off in the endzone he seemed to lose his confidence. Against the Seahawks, Orton did a good job of spreading the ball around and getting the ball into the hands of his playmakers. Broncos fans need to have patience with Orton. Because of all the complexities of this offense, it's going to take much more than just a few weeks of training camp to run it effectively. |

Broncos | Scheffler becoming Orton's favorite target Fri Aug 21, 10:33 AM
The Denver Post is reporting that with Brandon Marshall out of the wide receiver rotation for three practices over the past two days, Tony Scheffler emerged as one of the favorite targets of quarterback Kyle Orton.
| Our view: When head coach Josh McDaniels first arrived in Denver some wondered if he would use TE Tony Scheffler enough in his offense. It became clear early in camp that the young coach indeed did have a big role for the talented tight end. Orton and Scheffler have developed a great chemistry in their short time together, and fantasy owners could pick up Scheffler as a TE2 with TE1 upside. |
