Rams | Two RBs not expected to be back    Sat Jan 28, 11:36 AM

The St. Louis Rams are not expected to re-sign impending free-agent RBs Jerious Norwood and Cadillac Williams this offseason.

Footballguys view: Steven Jackson has been a mainstay, but the Rams have failed to find a quality backup for him for basically his entire career as a starter. There was a lot of speculation that the team would spend a quality pick on a running back last year, expect that chatter to pick up this year.

Rams | Jerious Norwood, Quinn Porter might be top RB options    Fri Sep 23, 09:09 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson (quadriceps) is not expected to play in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens, and RB Cadillac Williams (hamstring) is a game-time decision. That leaves RBs Jerious Norwood and Quinn Porter as the team's top options. 'I think you have to (run the ball) in every game,' head coach Steve Spagnuolo said. 'It doesn't matter what defense you face, if it's a good run-stopping defense or they're not stopping the run real well. I think everything is more effective on offense if we're able to run the football.'

Rams | Jerious Norwood dealing with knee ailment    Tue Aug 16, 01:26 AM

St. Louis Rams RB Jerious Norwood (knee) did not practice Monday, Aug. 15. He didn't appear on the post-game injury report Saturday, Aug. 13, after the preseason opener.

Footballguys view: No, this is not a recycled news item from Norwood's past. At one time, he was one of the more exciting young backs in the league, but Norwood's name has been on the injury report way too often in his career to expect anything from him this season.

Rams | Trio of RBs battle for carries    Sun Aug 14, 01:59 AM

St. Louis Rams RBs Jerious Norwood, Keith Toston and Cadillac Williams started their battle for the primary backup job to RB Steven Jackson. Toston had 11 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown in the preseason opener Saturday, Aug. 13, against the Indianapolis Colts. Williams also saw 11 carries, finishing with 40 yards and a score. Norwood had eight carries for 37 yards, and he added two grabs for nine yards.

Footballguys view: The Rams have the best set of backup RBs they've had in a long time. This could take touches away from Steven Jackson, but on the whole, it helps Jackson's fantasy stock because it greatly increases the chances of him staying healthy and not wearing down during the season.

Rams | Jerious Norwood added    Tue Aug 2, 05:33 PM

The St. Louis Rams have reached a one-year deal with free-agent RB Jerious Norwood (Falcons). Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Norwood could actually have decent value for a bit if Steven Jackson goes down. He was a dynamic talent when he could stay on the field. If Jackson does miss time, chances are Norwood will get hurt soon after, so he's not an advisable handcuff, but someone to have on waiver wire speed dial if Jackson gets carted off during a game.

Rams | Jerious Norwood visiting    Tue Aug 2, 05:04 PM

The St. Louis Rams are visiting with free-agent RB Jerious Norwood (Falcons) Tuesday, Aug. 2. He took a physical with the team Monday, Aug. 1, and has worked out for them, too.

Footballguys view: Norwood failed to stay healthy and live up to expectations during his time in Atlanta and is looking for a fresh start. The Rams need better depth behind Steven Jackson and could see Norwood as the answer. Norwood could be a nice complementary back and help them as a receiver out of the backfield.

Falcons | Jerious Norwood recovered from knee injury    Fri Jul 8, 05:02 PM

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent RB Jerious Norwood's agent, Bus Cook, said Norwood is completely recovered from the torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered last season.

Footballguys view: That's good news, but you still have to wonder if he'll ever be close to the back he was before his myriad of leg injuries.

Falcons | Jerious Norwood's agent does not expected an agreement    Fri Jul 8, 05:01 PM

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent RB Jerious Norwood's agent, Bus Cook, said he does not expect the team to re-sign Norwood because they took RB Jacquizz Rodgers in the draft.

Footballguys view: Norwood is a natural playmaker with a great initial burst, but he hasn't been able to stay healthy. He could make an impact by the end of the season if injuries strike above him on the depth chart of his eventual team.

Falcons | RB Rodgers fills a void    Sun May 15, 08:18 PM

Dan Parr, from ProFootballWeekly.com, reports Atlanta gave up its fifth- and seventh-round pick in a deal with the Rams and took RB Jacquizz Rodgers with the 145th overall pick. Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff considered Rodgers to be a great value at that position. "We felt like what we lacked last year was that explosive, stop-start, playmaking-type back who could not only run the ball, but catch the ball," Dimitroff told PFW. "We feel that we've added to that element of our offense by acquiring Rodgers."

Footballguys view: Rodgers is one of the most electric playmakers in all of college football. He is a quick twitch athlete who is incredibly difficult to tackle in the open field. Rodgers can be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield, and is very dangerous on draw plays. He'll fill the role that Jerious Norwood was supposed to.

Falcons | Expected to lighten Michael Turner's load    Tue Sep 7, 05:58 PM

The Atlanta Falcons are expected to lighten the workload of RB Michael Turner this year, and he is not expected to approach the 376 carries he recorded in 2008, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's D. Orlando Ledbetter. RBs Jason Snelling and Jerious Norwood are expected to receive some of the action as well. 'He truly knows what it takes for him to physically get back into the swing of things,' general manager Thomas Dimitroff said. 'I've seen him many, many times in the weight room, digging away with his endurance as well as with his lifting. He is a focused guy.' Turner has appeared much lighter than the 244 pounds that the team lists as his weight. 'He's running faster than he ran last year,' head coach Mike Smith said. 'I think he's running with more confidence. He's a big part of what we want to be able to do in the regular season.'

Footballguys view: This has come up a few times during the offseason, but it shouldn't concern you if you are a Turner owner. He'll still have plenty of opportunity to be a 1500 yard back with double-digit touchdowns.

Falcons | Jerious Norwood No. 2 back    Fri Aug 27, 03:49 AM

Atlanta Falcons RB Jerious Norwood (hip) is running as the team's No. 2 running back, reports Jeff Haws, of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Norwood is expected to play in the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 27.

Footballguys view: Norwood needs to stay healthy if he wants to keep his job as the No. 2 running back in Atlanta. We feel if anything happened to Michael Turner the team would be best served to turn to Jason Snelling as their primary back.

Atlanta Falcons RB Jerious Norwood (hip flexor) will play in the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 27, reports Jeff Haws, of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Norwood sat out the team's first two preseason game and most of training camp.

Footballguys view: Just in time for the key third game of the preseason. We know Norwood will have trouble staying healthy, but if he looks good on Friday, he might be worth a last-round pick in PPR leagues.

Falcons | Can RB Nance beat out Norwood?    Mon Aug 16, 04:01 PM

D. Orlando Ledbetter, from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, believes there's a chance that undrafted rookie Dmitri Nance could beat out veteran Jerious Norwood as the team's change of pace running back. Nance scored a couple of touchdowns in the Falcons preseason opener, while Norwood has missed a lot of time due to a hip injury.

Footballguys view: Our very own Cecil Lammey watched Nance up close during the week of practice for the Shrine Game in Orlando earlier this year and came away impressed. Nance is a compact runner who knows how to run through trash at the line of scrimmage. He's not a big back, but does run with some pop at the point of attack and has a nose for the end zone. We'll see if the undrafted rookie can actually make the final roster and work his way into the rotation as a complementary back behind Michael Turner.

Atlanta Falcons CB Dunta Robinson (hamstring) and RB Jerious Norwood (hip flexor) appeared to run extremely well under the supervision of the training staff Monday, Aug. 9, reports D. Orlando Ledbetter, of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Footballguys view: The amount of missed time by Norwood is getting troubling enough to consider avoiding him altogether as a co-handcuff to Michael Turner along with Jason Snelling and in nonPPR leagues. Norwood should still have marginal value in PPR leagues as long as he can take the field.
