Steelers | David Nelson released    Tue Feb 9, 05:43 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR David Nelson was released Tuesday, Feb. 9.

Footballguys view: Nelson has been on four teams since he entered the league with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2010. A shoulder injury kept him from catching a single pass this year for the Steelers. Set to be an unrestricted free agent, the Steelers have given him a chance to get a head start for his next destination.

Steelers | David Nelson to have MRI    Thu Aug 20, 07:41 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR David Nelson (shoulder) could be dealing with a serious injury. He will undergo an MRI exam this week.

Footballguys view: Nelson was out of the league much of last season and had stops with the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills prior to that. He was a long shot to make the roster anyway. Antonio Brown is the guy to get in this offense, and he will be a great WR1. Martavis Bryant should be somewhere in the neighborhood of a low end WR2 or a high end WR3.

The New York Jets have declared OG Ben Ijalana, WR Chris Owusu, OL Dakota Dozier, WR David Nelson, DE IK Enemkpali, FS Josh Bush, DL T.J. Barnes inactive for Week 6.

Footballguys view: Eric Decker is playing, but is still very risky on a balky hamstring. He could work out as a desperation play with something extra in the tank against his old team.

Jets | David Nelson expects to play    Sat Oct 4, 09:30 AM

New York Jets WR David Nelson (ankle) said he expects to play in Week 5 as long as he does not have any setbacks before the game.

Footballguys view: Nelson hasn't been a fantasy factor thus far this season, and whether he plays or not it will continue to be the case going forward. His limited skill set and the problems in the passing offense will continue to limit him.

Jets | Eric Decker update    Mon Sep 15, 08:16 AM

Updating previous reports, New York Jets WR Eric Decker (hamstring) injured the same hamstring that bothered him in training camp Sunday, Sept. 14. However, this injury is believed to be more severe and will have an MRI.

Footballguys view: Here we go again. Hamstring injuries are known to linger if not treated properly. The Jets will need to monitor him closely, and they certainly won't rush him back until he's ready. Decker's fantasy owners need to have other plans in place.

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (hamstring), WR David Nelson (groin) and SS Calvin Pryor (concussion) did not participate in practice Wednesday, July 30.

Jets | Teammates backing Geno Smith    Wed Jul 16, 02:03 PM

New York Jets WR David Nelson said his teammates believe this is QB Geno Smith's team and that QB Michael Vick is seen as the backup. 'For all of us, it's Geno's team," Nelson said. 'And from what we've been told and what we've been working toward, it's Geno's team, and Mike's coming in to kind of (fill) a supporting role. If anything happens to Geno, we have a proven starter and a proven winner backing him up. That's the direction we're moving.'

Footballguys view: Nelson is being a good teammate, but right now there is little clarity on who will be the starter for the Jets. Vick is not washed up, and he could easily beat out Smith for the top spot on the depth chart.

Jets | Receiving corps is deep    Wed Jun 18, 04:17 PM

New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg believes the team's receiving corps is extremely deep and has more than a handful of guys who can play at a real high level.

Footballguys view: Mornhinweg is putting lipstick on a pig here, as the Jets have a #2 cast as a #1 (Eric Decker) and a mishmash of slot receivers and inconsistency (David Nelson, Jeremy Kerley, Stephen Hill, Greg Salas, Clyde Gates) after that. Rookie TE Jace Amaro could see a lot of targets early in his career.

Jets | Stephen Hill could start    Fri Jun 13, 01:39 PM

New York Jets WR Stephen Hill could start opposite WR Eric Decker in 2014, in the opinion of Rich Cimini of ESPN New York. The battle for the No. 2 wide receiver could come down to Hill and WR David Nelson.

Footballguys view: That's not a great sign for the Jets. They're essentially without a true WR1 on the roster, and Decker's numbers should suffer now that he's not with the Broncos. Hill has been a disappointment to this point in his career. Injuries and inconsistencies have kept him from playing up to his potential as a pro. He still has a fantastic size/speed combination, but we'd have to see him flash in training camp and the preseason before we got even a little bit excited about his prospects in 2014.

Jets | David Nelson misses time with illness    Fri Jun 6, 04:49 PM

New York Jets WR David Nelson (illness) missed the first week of organized team activities with an illness he got while doing charity work in Haiti. Nelson was bit by a mosquito that resulted in 104-fever and strep throat.

Footballguys view: Nelson is a part of a ragtag group of receivers behind Eric Decker who will be battling for playing time in the Jets run-first offense. There's not much fantasy value to be found here.

Jets | Players support Rex Ryan    Thu Dec 19, 01:17 PM

New York Jets players support head coach Rex Ryan and hope he returns to coach the team in 2013. "I'm 100 percent confident that if it was up to the players, that he'd be back next year," WR David Nelson told The Post. "I'm 100 percent confident that if the GM and the owner allowed player feedback, then there'd be a lot of guys that would go to bat for him, and speak on his behalf."

Footballguys view: The Jets have performed way better than people expected but that's no real help in figuring out what will happen to Ryan. With new GM John Idzik in town, one would imagine he came in wanting his own guy. We will probably hear on Rex shortly after Week 17.

Jets | David Nelson hopes to sting old team    Mon Nov 11, 11:50 PM

New York Jets WR David Nelson is ready to face the Buffalo Bills in Week 11. He was stung last April when he found out on Twitter that the Bills had no plans to make him a qualifying offer. 'I'm out to prove this week they made a mistake,' Nelson said Monday, Nov. 11. In other news, Nelson won an appeal for the $7,875 fine he received in October for unnecessary roughness against the Cincinnati Bengals.
