Footballguys view: Morgan has bounced around to a couple of different teams so far in his pro career. He's got a rocket arm - an absolute cannon - so that could get him a look as a camp arm with another team. |

Colts | Indy to take a long look at James Morgan Mon Dec 6, 03:05 PM
Free-agent QB James Morgan was signed to the practice squad of the Indianapolis Colts on Monday, Dec. 6.
Footballguys view: Morgan was a fourth-round pick of the New York Jets in the 2020 NFL draft. Coming out of FIU, Morgan was known to have a rocket arm and a gunslinger mentality. He's bounced on and off the Jets roster, spending time with the Panthers and the Steelers along the way. Now, he gets a chance to latch on with the Colts. |

Footballguys view: Sternberger never played up to his potential with the Packers. Now, he gets a chance to impress with the Steelers. He's an athletic receiving tight end when healthy. The Steelers need some tight end depth with Eric Ebron (knee) likely headed to Injured Reserve. |

Free-agent QB James Morgan and WR Aaron Parker were signed the Carolina Panthers practice squad Thursday, Sept. 2. The team also released CB Rashaan Melvin from their practice squad.
Footballguys view: Morgan has a rocket arm and can fit passes into tight windows that other can't. He's athletic enough to buy time with his legs, so we'll watch him in deep dynasty formats. He comes over from the Jets to be a reserve QB behind starter Sam Darnold...again. |

Jets | Four-year contract for James Morgan Mon Jul 20, 05:20 PM
New York Jets fourth-round draft choice QB James Morgan signed a four-year contract with the Jets Monday, July 20, worth $4 million.
Footballguys view: We'll keep an eye on Morgan in deep dynasty formats. The FIU passer has a rocket arm and loves to attack a defense downfield. His childhood idol was Brett Favre, and he certainly has a gunslinger's mentality as a quarterback. Morgan has little control as a passer and will take way too many chances with the football. His mechanics need work but he's a highly intelligent player with upside to develop into a starter someday. That's worth monitoring if your dynasty league is deep enough. |

Jets | David Fales may make roster Sun May 24, 01:25 PM
New York Jets QB David Fales could make the final roster if QB Joe Flacco (neck) is not cleared for the start of the season. QB James Morgan is expected to be the No. 3 quarterback in 2020, so the Jets may have to keep four quarterbacks on the roster.
Footballguys view: Fales knows the system because he's played under Gase since their days with the Dolphins. He was with the Lions in training camp last year but was released at final cuts and landed with the Jets for most of the 2019 season. |

Jets | James Morgan selected by NYJ Sat Apr 25, 01:15 PM
Florida International QB James Morgan was drafted in the fourth round (125th-overall pick) Saturday, April 25 by the New York Jets.
Footballguys view: Morgan has a huge arm but little control of where those passes go. He was getting plenty of buzz before the draft and lands with the Jets as a clear backup/developmental guy behind Sam Darnold. |

Colts | Indy chatting with James Morgan Tue Apr 21, 09:37 PM
Florida International QB James Morgan has participated in multiple video meetings with the Indianapolis Colts, according to ESPN's Mike Wells, who adds the Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are among the other teams high on Morgan.
Footballguys view: Morgan has a great arm and he is tough, but he's not mobile and his throwing ability lacks nuance. He'll be a day three developmental project. |

Jets | Several QB prospects meet with Gang Green Mon Apr 20, 09:01 PM
Princeton QB Kevin Davidson, Iowa QB Nate Stanley, Virginia QB Bryce Perkins and Michigan QB Shea Patterson recently met with the New York Jets via video conferencing. The Jets also met with Florida International QB James Morgan, as previously reported, which helps establish a pattern of interest in the position.
Footballguys view: The Jets have Sam Darnold as their starter but they could use a backup. Davidson is perhaps the most intriguing of all these late-round prospects. Morgan is getting quite a bit of buzz and is unlikely to be on the board as late as these other guys. |

NFL | James Morgan generating a ton of interest Sun Apr 19, 06:50 PM
Florida international QB James Morgan has taken part in videoconferences with 'almost half of the league's teams, including multiple calls with teams where he chatted with head coaches and offensive coordinators,' according to Pro Football Network's Tony Pauline. Morgan told Pauline after the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine that the New York Jets and New England Patriots showed the most interest, while Pauline added the Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 'also in the mix.'
Footballguys view: Morgan is a late-round pick with intriguing upside due to his intelligence and physical skill set. He's got a big arm and enough athleticism to keep a play alive. However, Morgan has 'say it don't spray it' accuracy and his decision making leaves a lot to be desired. He'll have to work as a backup to become more nuanced as a passer at the pro level. |

Jets | James Morgan meets with NYJ reps Wed Apr 8, 12:40 PM
Florida International QB James Morgan met via teleconference Wednesday, April 8, with the New York Jets.
Footballguys view: Morgan is an intriguing developmental prospect that teams are keeping tabs on. He should be a late-round pick or priority free agent addition after the draft. Morgan has a huge arm but little control as a passer, mainly due to poor and inconsistent mechanics. |

Patriots | James Morgan talks with Pats Sun Apr 5, 01:01 PM
Florida International QB James Morgan recently had a video meeting with the New England Patriots, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Morgan can best be described as a tough guy with a rocket arm. His footwork and accuracy are big issues and need to be worked on if he's ever going to be anything more than a backup in the NFL. He'll likely be a late-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft. |

Florida International QB James Morgan is receiving interest from the New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins and Las Vagas Raiders, according to sources. He is scheduled to meet with or work out for all three teams leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: The Bears, the Colts and the Packers all have interest as well. Morgan has a rocket arm but little control as a passer. His size and arm strength make him an interesting late-round/developmental quarterback teams will look at in the 2020 NFL draft. |
