New York Jets RB Ty Montgomery rushed seven times for 36 yards and a touchdown in a 22-10 preseason win over the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Aug. 15.

Footballguys view: Montgomery appears to be the clear backup to LeVeon Bell and he could do more as a receiver even while Bell is on the field.

Jets | Ty Montgomery limps off    Mon Aug 12, 10:25 AM

New York Jets RB Ty Montgomery (groin) limped off with appeared to be a groin injury Monday, Aug. 12.

Footballguys view: Montgomery is playing a hybrid role for the Jets this year. He's not really a running back or a receiver because he's both. We'll know more about this injury in a bit.

Jets | Ty Montgomery set to play hybrid role    Thu Aug 8, 02:35 PM

New York Jets RB Ty Montgomery told the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta that he feels like 'a true hybrid in this offense (under head coach Adam Gase).''It was a surprising deal when he came in here. I was surprised he wasn't signed yet. The fact that we had a shot at him coming here and when we got him signed, the wheels started turning on offense as far as all right, what are we going to do? How are we going to use these guys? What's it going to look like? So, we're experimenting with all that stuff. His versatility and his flexibility and his knowledge ... and he's extremely smart. So, we put a lot on his plate and he's able to play a lot of different roles for us,' Gase said.

Footballguys view: Montgomery is a versatile player as he can line up in the slot as a wide receiver but he can also take handoffs as a running back. The Jets have Le'Veon Bell to be their primary running back, and Bell is a fine receiver out of the backfield too. Montgomery may not get many snaps other than when Bell needs a breather. We'll be interested to see how they use him in the preseason.

Jets | Ty Montgomery a good fit    Fri Jun 21, 11:48 PM

New York Jets RB Ty Montgomery's versatility as a runner and receiver makes him a good fit in head coach Adam Gase's offense, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post, and Montgomery continues to be the frontrunner to return kicks.

Footballguys view: The team added Blial Powell recently and has a slew of young backs competing with him and Montgomery for two running back spots at the most. Montgomery is the most versatile, so consider him a favorite to win one of the spots.

Jets | Elijah McGuire bumped down the charts?    Thu Apr 11, 10:46 PM

New York Jets RB Elijah McGuire will likely be the third-string running back following the signing of RB Ty Montgomery, according to Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record.

Footballguys view: Yeah, it's a weird signing for the Jets as they already have McGuire (and Trenton Cannon) on the roster. The starter is Le'Veon Bell, and he's a great three-down back. When he needs a breather, Montgomery might be that next back up.

Jets | Ty Montgomery joining Jets    Thu Apr 11, 05:27 PM

Free-agent RB Ty Montgomery (Ravens) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the New York Jets Thursday, April 11, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Montgomery is going to serve as the primary change-of-pace back behind starter Le'Veon Bell. It's an interesting signing for the Jets since they already have Eli McGuire and Trenton Cannon in the backfield. We'll see those three compete for playing time and to establish a pecking order behind Bell for the 2019 season.

Dolphins | Ty Montgomery to visit Miami    Thu Apr 11, 12:54 PM

Free-agent RB Ty Montgomery (Ravens) will visit the Miami Dolphins on Friday, April 12.

Footballguys view: Montgomery is visiting with a couple of AFC East teams, the Jets and the Dolphins just to see if he can get some work. He is a pass-catching back who can play some slot receiver too plus return kicks. Montgomery would be an odd fit with the Jets who already have Eli McGuire and Trenton Cannon as receiving backs or change-of-pace backs behind starter LeVeon Bell.

Packers | Green Bay trades Ty Montgomery    Tue Oct 30, 03:27 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery was traded to the Baltimore Ravens Tuesday, Oct. 30, in exchange for a 2020 seventh-round pick, according to a source.

Footballguys view: This move comes just two days after Montgomery's costly fumble on special teams against the Rams. Montgomery is incredibly versatile as a runner and receiver out of the backfield but wasn't getting used that much with the Packers in 2018. The Packers roll forward with Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams as their top two backs.

Ravens | Ty Montgomery joins Ravens    Tue Oct 30, 03:23 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery was acquired by the Baltimore Ravens Tuesday, Oct. 30, in exchange for a 2020 seventh-round pick, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Ravens needed some help in the backfield and they get that with Montgomery. The converted wide receiver brings his incredibly versatile skill set to the Ravens backfield where he should take over from Buck Allen as the primary pass-catching back. So long as Montgomery can stay healthy, he should have deep flex value for Fantasy GMs.

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery is viewed as a multiple-position player by head coach Mike McCarthy. Montgomery could move around with multiple injuries at receiver.

Footballguys view: Montgomery can fill Randall Cobb's role and he can also be a dangerous receiver out of the backfield. With the Packers offense likely short-handed this week, Montgomery becomes a nice sleeper play in PPR leagues.

Packers | Aaron Jones won't start right away    Wed Sep 19, 01:21 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones will play behind RBs Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery in his return from a two-game suspension, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Footballguys view: Jones is going to get eased back into the mix...at least that's what reporters around the team are speculating. That means Jamaal Williams should be the lead ball carrier for the Packers again this week. They travel to play Washington on Sunday and we see Williams as a RB3 for Fantasy GMs.

Packers | Green Bay to use committee at RB    Mon Jun 18, 01:25 PM

Green Bay Packers RBs Ty Montgomery, Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones will be part of a committee at running back this upcoming season, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. McCarthy said the team will be able to adjust if one of the running backs shows they can be the full-time starter.

Footballguys view: This sounds about right. We should see Williams as the primary banger for the Packers offense as he can grind down opponents with multiple carries. Montgomery can be utilized effectively as a receiving back who could thrive if/when the Packers use a fast break offense. Jones is a good all-around back who might get a few touches here and there. Fantasy owners are currently taking Williams at RB45 (10.03) and Montgomery at RB42 (9.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Packers | Ty Montgomery to have big role?    Mon Jun 11, 04:06 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery seems to be set for a big role in 2018, according to ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky. Head coach Mike McCarthy said the offense is suited for Montgomery's skill set and the Packers need to take advantage of that. Nevertheless, McCarthy admitted that he will continue to take a committee approach with the backfield with RBs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams included.

Footballguys view: Williams could be the lead back for the Packers, mostly because of his size and ability to grind opponents down. Montgomery, a converted wide receiver, could get work as a pass-catching back and could get plenty of work when the Packers use a 'fast break' offense. Both ADPs for Williams and Montgomery are close at this time. Williams is going off the board at RB42 (9.06) and Montgomery at RB45 (10.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Packers | Ty Montgomery could move back to WR    Wed Feb 14, 10:25 AM

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery could move back to wide receiver, according to beat writer Rob Demovsky.

Footballguys view: Montgomery's body broke down as a featured back for the Packers in 2017. They could move him to receiver to take the place of Randall Cobb in the slot. Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones will split duties in the backfield for the Packers in 2018.

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 29, contrary to a previous report, and RB Ty Montgomery (ribs, wrist) sat out of practice.

Footballguys view: Jones is trying to work his way back after missing the last two games due to this knee injury. We could see Jones this week, but it might take another week of recovery for Jones to get close to full strength. Rookie Jamaal Williams is the lead back for the Packers with Jones and Montgomery banged up.

Packers | Ty Montgomery, Aaron Jones still out     Thu Nov 23, 02:17 PM

Green Bay Packers RBs Ty Montgomery (ribs) and Aaron Jones (knee) did not practice Thursday, Nov. 23.

Packers | Ty Montgomery remains sidelined    Wed Nov 22, 12:22 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery (ribs) not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 22.

Footballguys view: The Packers travel to play the Steelers on Sunday. Montgomery needs time for this ribs injury to heal, and his playing status will basically come down to pain tolerance. We should see plenty of rookie RB Jamaal Williams in Week 12, and his role could make him a low-end RB2 or flex play for fantasy owners.

Footballguys view: We'll see Jamaal Williams as the lead back for the Packers this week. The Ravens have a tough run defense, but Williams should get a sizable role...enough to make him a consideration as a low-end RB2 or RB3/flex play for fantasy owners in Week 11.
