Vikings | Marko Mitchell claimed Mon Jun 28, 05:44 PM
The Minnesota Vikings have announced they have claimed free-agent WR Marko Mitchell (Lions) off waivers.
Footballguys view: Mitchell is a lanky receiver who has already bounced around the league to a few teams during his young career. The Vikings now have nine wideouts on the roster, and Mitchell will have to blow coaches away in order to make the final roster. If he does impress during training camp the team may decide to keep him around on the practice squad. |

Lions | Marko Mitchell released Fri Jun 25, 01:10 PM
The Detroit Lions have released WR Marko Mitchell, reports The Detroit News' John Niyo.
Footballguys view: The lanky receiver has now been bounced from two teams (Washington, Detroit) this offseason. He may get a shot with another squad, but is a long shot to make it through final cuts. |

Scout.com's Adam Caplan reports the Minnesota Vikings placed a waiver claim on free-agent WR Marko Mitchell (Redskins), but he was awarded to the Detroit Lions.

Rick Maese, of The Washington Post, reports free-agent WR Marko Mitchell (Redskins) has signed with the Detroit Lions. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Mitchell is a tall receiver, who is a smooth strider in the open field. His hands are fairly consistent, but he needs to become a better route runner and create more explosion when getting off the line of scrimmage. He'll challenge Dennis Northcutt and Brian Clark for the fifth-string spot in Detroit. If he can't win that job then the Lions could develop him on the practice squad if Mitchell impresses the staff. |

Redskins | Five players released Mon May 3, 02:27 PM
According to Redskins.com's Matt Terl, the Washington Redskins have released RB Anthony Alridge, RB P.J. Hill, WR Marko Mitchell, WR James Robinson and DL Anthony Montgomery.
Footballguys view: With the addition of players like Willie Parker, Joey Galloway, and Bobby Wade it made younger guys like P.J. Hill and Marko Mitchell expendable. Some of these players could be invited back for training camp if injuries strike. A team like New Orleans might try and re-sign P.J. Hill for added depth in the RB corps. |

Redskins | Rookie Mitchell the talk of training camp Mon Aug 24, 05:20 PM
Jason Reid, from the Washington Post, reports rookie wide receiver Marko Mitchell was the talk of training camp because of his highlight-tape plays in passing drills. Mitchell teamed with rookie quarterback Chase Daniel on a three-yard touchdown pass - the Redskins' first of the preseason - in the third quarter of Saturday's 17-13 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, which only stirred more talk. "Marko was doing his thing all camp," top wideout Santana Moss said. "They [Washington's defensive backs] have a hard time with him. All the DBs, they talk about him every day."
Footballguys view: The seventh-round pick out of Nevada played in a gimmicky pistol offense, and thus his college production was inflated because of it. He has good straight line speed, and knows how to use his big frame to shield defenders away from the ball. Mitchell is currently listed as fifth on the depth chart, but the Redskins could have a solid starter if he continues to evolve as a player and develop his pro game. |

Redskins | Portis impressed with M. Mitchell Thu Aug 20, 01:48 PM
Dan Steinberg, of The Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis said WR Marko Mitchell has been one of the pleasant surprises during training camp. 'I think Marko's just coming on strong,' Portis said. 'He's that addition that we need, along with [WR Malcolm Kelly] and [WR Devin Thomas]. We were looking for a surprise, and I think he's it.'
Footballguys view: Mitchell has been impressive in training camp, but we didn't see him standout at the Shrine Game practices when compared to receivers like Mike Thomas, Deon Butler, or Jarett Dillard. Mitchell is a big target, and does a good job of coming back to the football when his quarterback is in trouble. He has good straight line speed, and can track the ball in for the catch over either shoulder. If he becomes a tougher, more physical player he could develop into a nice red zone target because of his size. He also needs to become more explosive off the line of scrimmage. |

Redskins | Mitchell a rookie standout in OTAs Sun Jul 19, 02:03 PM
Gary Fitzgerald, of Redskins.com, reports that seventh-round pick WR Marko Mitchell was among the standout rookies during mini-camp and OTAs. Fitzgerald writes, "At Nevada, he was a big play receiver, excelling in deep and downfield routes. Now he must learn the short routes of the West Coast offense."
Footballguys view: Mitchell is a big wide receiver who is fluid and fast for a player his size. We got to watch him at the Shrine Game practices, and his game was very inconsistent. If he is tightening up his technique, he could be a late-round surprise. |

Redskins | Rookie to Watch: Marko Mitchell Thu Jul 16, 04:18 PM
Gary Fitzgerald, from Redskins.com, reports one of the rookies to watch in training camp is WR Marko Mitchell from Nevada. He could provide plenty of thrills as he runs the deep routes. That's something he did frequently at the University of Nevada, as evidenced by his 18.1 yards-per-catch average the last three years. Mitchell faces a learning curve with the Redskins, though. The 6-4, 218-pounder must adjust to running shorter routes as part of the West Coast offense.
Footballguys view: We got to see Marko Mitchell at the 2009 Shrine Game down in Houston and he only stood out occasionally. He is a tall receiver that has good body control and sideline awareness. However, he does not run crisp routes and has build up speed. He also lacks the explosiveness to get separation on NFL-quality cover corners. The Redskins need serious help in the WR corps, but Mitchell may be a year or two away from being able to contribute in the regular season. |

Redskins | M. Mitchell signs Sat Jun 13, 01:46 AM
Redskins.com reports the Washington Redskins announced they have signed seventh-round draft pick WR Marko Mitchell. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: With the release of James Thrash, Mitchell will have a chance to win the fifth wide receiver job. He's a very athletic player for a big receiver, but he'll need to improve on his consistency and effort to make the team. Dynasty leagues should remember Mitchell's name if he makes the team because there's long term opportunity at wideout in Washington, and neither Malcolm Kelly nor Devin Thomas have done much to distinguish themselves thus far in their careers. |

Redskins | M. Mitchell a practice squad candidate Mon Jun 1, 10:30 PM
Ryan O'Halloran, of The Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins WR Marko Mitchell could probably clear waivers and is a practice squad candidate.
Footballguys view: Marko Mitchell is a big target that has a huge wingspan which gives him a large catch radius. He can track the deep ball and haul it in, but he doesn't have the speed to challenge at this level. Mitchell is a raw prospect that needs a few years on the Practice Squad before he can reach his limited potential. |
