Panthers | Eight players cut    Sun Aug 24, 02:37 PM

The Carolina Panthers have released P Jordan Gay, DL Linden Gaydosh, DL Alex Hall, OL Oscar Johnson, LB Anthony Morales, WR Marvin McNutt, WR Kealoha Pilares and DL Craig Roh.

Footballguys view: McNutt might be able to find a spot on a practice squad somewhere. He's a big, physical receiver who can work as a red-zone threat. It's not a good sign that he couldn't make a WR-needy Panthers roster.

Panthers | Two WRs stand out at OTAs    Sun Jun 8, 02:54 AM

Carolina Panthers WR Tavarres King and WR Marvin McNutt have attracted the most attention during OTAs this week. None of the 11 players on the Panthers receiving roster caught a pass with the team last season.

Footballguys view: King stands out because of his speed and route-running ability. He can eat cushion quickly before making a break at the stem of the route. McNutt has good concentration and is a big-bodied wide receiver who could be a decent target in the red zone.

The Carolina Panthers have declared LB Dan Connor, RB Jonathan Stewart, CB Josh Norman, WR Marvin McNutt, WR Tavarres King, OG Travis Bond, DL Wes Horton inactive for Week 16.

The Carolina Panthers have declared RB Jonathan Stewart, LB Jordan Senn, CB Josh Norman, WR Marvin McNutt, WR Tavarres King, OG Travis Bond, DL Wes Horton inactive for Week 15.

Footballguys view: DeAngelo Williams would be a decent flex play with Stewart out, except for the stifling Jets run defense. Next week against the Saints will be better terrain for his owners to try an upside play in deep leagues.

The Carolina Panthers have declared TE Ben Hartsock, DL Charles Johnson, LB Chase Blackburn, OG Chris Scott, RB DeAngelo Williams, WR Marvin McNutt, WR Tavarres King inactive for Week 13.

Dolphins | Make roster moves    Sat Aug 31, 10:21 PM

The Miami Dolphins have released LB Austin Spitler, DL Kheeston Randall, WR Chad Bumphis, WR Brian Tyms, WR Keenan Davis, WR Marvin McNutt, DE Antwan Applewhite, CB De'Andre Presley, RB Jonas Gray, CB Julian Posey, S Keelan Johnson, S Jordan Kovacs, LB Lee Robinson, OG Chris Barker, C Sam Brenner, DE Tristan Okpalugo, OT Andrew McDonald, DT A.J. Francis and DT Tracy Robertson. The team also injured waived QB Aaron Corp (undisclosed) and OT Jeff Adams (undisclosed).

Footballguys view: McNutt was the player to note here offensively. He's big and has a large wingspan but has failed to gain much separation on his routes as a pro.

Dolphins | Chad Bumphis favorite for starting job    Fri Aug 23, 07:26 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Chad Bumphis appears to be the leading candidate for the No. 5 wide receiver job but could be push by WR Marvin McNutt for the job.

Footballguys view: Bumphis is a solid slot receiver/returner type, but he doesn't have much long-term potential in deep dynasty leagues.

Dolphins | Marvin McNutt plagued by drops    Tue Aug 6, 08:24 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Marvin McNutt started training camp strong, but he has reportedly dropped several balls in the past 10 days of practice, including one in the team's first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. McNutt is a big receiver with a large wingspan but his concentration is known to lapse and he's not overly fast or quick.

Dolphins | Several new candidates for bigger roles    Sun Jul 28, 10:50 PM

The Miami Dolphins learned Sunday, July 28, that WR Armon Binns (knee) is out for the season, and WR Rishard Matthews (undisclosed) will be sidelined several weeks with an undisclosed ailment. The two were considered the favorites for the No. 4 and 5 receiver jobs. With those two on the shelf, WRs Chad Bumphis, Jasper Collins, Jeff Fuller, Marvin McNutt, Andrell Smith, Kenny Stafford and Brian Tyms all find themselves competing for a bigger piece of the pie in training camp and the preseason. Matthews could still end up being the team's No. 4 receiver unless he is forced to start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

Footballguys view: Tight end Dustin Keller is really the team's #3A wide receiver, along with Brandon Gibson. After that, the team's depth is unproven and depleted.

Dolphins | Marvin McNutt impresses    Sun Jul 21, 03:25 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Marvin McNutt caught five passes on the first day of camp Saturday, July 20.

Footballguys view: McNutt has an excellent size/speed combination, but he just didn't seem like a good fit in Philadelphia under Chip Kelly. The Dolphins took advantage of their high waiver priority to claim McNutt and possibly carve out a role for him as the big receiver in a wide receiver group anchored by the speed of Mike Wallace and solid fundamental game of Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson.

Dolphins | Rishard Matthews favorite for No. 5 WR job    Sun Jul 14, 01:00 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Rishard Matthews likely will enter training camp as the favorite for the No. 5 wide receiver job but could be pushed by WRs Brian Tyms, Jeff Fuller and Marvin McNutt for the roster spot.

Footballguys view: Fuller has chemistry with QB Ryan Tannehill from their days together in college at Texas A&M. McNutt is a physical WR who can wrestle away contested catches but he's not overly quick or fast. Matthews has deceptive downfield speed and earned praise earlier this year for his standout play during OTAs.

Dolphins | McNutt has connection to WR coach O'Keefe    Sat Jun 29, 07:44 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Marvin McNutt has a connection to the team's WR coach Ken O'Keefe from their days together at the University of Iowa. O'Keefe was McNutt's offensive coordinator for the Hawkeyes and he knows how to use the second-year WR to his fullest potential. In three years McNutt became the school's all-time leading receiver with 170 catches for 2,861 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Footballguys view: McNutt was a sixth-round pick by the Eagles in 2012 but the team decided to let him go earlier this offseason. He's a huge target who knows how to frame his shoulders to the QB and come back to the ball. However, McNutt is not a quick twitch player and struggles to gain separation against NFL coverage. He's competing for one of the final spots on the depth chart.

Dolphins | Marvin McNutt claimed    Wed May 15, 05:39 PM

The Miami Dolphins have claimed WR Marvin McNutt off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Footballguys view: McNutt is a big, physical WR who can be a good red zone target. He struggles to gain separation in his routes and thus has to make many contested catches. McNutt is not a lock to make the team and will have to fight for a spot on the depth chart in training camp.

Eagles | Marvin McNutt cut    Tue May 14, 11:12 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles released WR Marvin McNutt.

Footballguys view: McNutt was a sixth-round pick by the Eagles last year but recorded no catches as a rookie. He's a big, physical wide receiver with good straight line speed. McNutt struggles to get open but may be able to find a spot with another team for training camp.

Eagles | Inexperience reason for mistakes     Sat Dec 15, 07:34 AM

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said the team's inexperience has led to many miscues this season, particularly a blocked punt against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 15. Reid said that the problem was rookie WR Marvin McNutt getting beaten by his man so badly that he was pushed into the path of P Mat McBriar, who ended up punting the ball into McNutt. Reid also said that rookie LB Ryan Rau was to blame for the team's punt team not having the correct personnel on the field on that play. The head coach also explained how inexperience is the reason for the team having so many fumbles this season.

Eagles | Release 19 players    Fri Aug 31, 01:46 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles have released SS Oshiomogho Atogwe, TE Brett Brackett, LB Keenan Clayton, DT Landon Cohen, TE Chase Ford, WR Mardy Gilyard, WR Chad Hall, CB Joselio Hanson, FB Emil Igwenagu, OT D.J. Jones, WR Marvin McNutt, LB Adrian Moten, DT Ollie Ogbu, LB Ryan Rau, DE Monte Taylor, SS Phillip Thomas, DT Frank Trotter, OG Steve Vallos and OG Brandon Washington.

Footballguys view: McNutt was seen as having a chance to displace Riley Cooper after he broke his collarbone, but the big receiver couldn't impress enough to make the team. He's a candidate for the practice squad.

Eagles | Marvin McNutt gets chance to shine    Sun Jul 29, 11:54 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Marvin McNutt is getting more reps with WR Riley Cooper (collarbone) out with a broken collarbone. He appears to have more confidence, and has been playing well in his bid for the No. 4 receiver job.

Footballguys view: We like the way McNutt uses his large frame to shield defenders away from the ball. He's got a large wingspan and is an aggressive catcher who can outmuscle smaller DBs for the football.

Eagles | Damaris Johnson, Marvin McNutt catch break    Sat Jul 28, 08:11 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WRs Damaris Johnson and Marvin McNutt will get a chance to fill in as the fourth wide receiver during training camp and the preseason with WR Riley Cooper (collarbone) out with a fractured left collarbone. 'We're excited about the guys on our roster,' general manager Howie Roseman said Saturday, July 28.

Footballguys view: They have different skill sets and can contribute in different ways. McNutt is a big, physical WR who knows how to box out defenders. Johnson is an athletic WR who is dangerous after the catch.

Eagles | Marvin McNutt is Riley Cooper's biggest threat    Sat Jul 7, 12:28 AM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Riley Cooper appears to have the No. 4 receiver job sewn up already, as he practiced with a lot of confidence during organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp. However, rookie WR Marvin McNutt didn't get much of a chance in minicamp, and he could emerge as a threat during training camp and the preseason.

Footballguys view: Cooper is a better route runner, but he lacks the size and ball skills that McNutt has. The rookie from Iowa knows how to use his frame to box out defenders and has the wingspan to pluck passes out of the air at the highest point.

Eagles | Three may compete for No. 5 WR job    Fri Jun 29, 02:34 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WRs Chad Hall, Marvin McNutt and Damaris Johnson could be candidates for the No. 5 wide receiver job during training camp.

Footballguys view: We like McNutt to win this job. He's got a big frame, long arms, and does a good job of 'boxing out' defenders away from his body. McNutt is also a good red zone target because of his size and leaping ability.

Eagles | Three draft choices agree to terms    Wed May 9, 01:38 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to terms with second-round draft choice DE Vinny Curry, fifth-round draft choice OT Dennis Kelly and sixth-round draft choice WR Marvin McNutt on four-year deals. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: We love the addition of McNutt here. He's unlikely to be much of a fantasy factor his rookie season but he could develop into a quality No.2 WR. McNutt has a large frame, long wingspan, and knows how to "box out" defenders to keep them away from the ball. His soft hands will also make him a QBs best friend.

Rams | Marvin McNutt works out    Thu Apr 19, 01:34 AM

Iowa WR Marvin McNutt had a private workout with the St. Louis Rams Wednesday, April 18, according to a league source. The all-time leading receiver for Iowa has previously met with the Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins.

Footballguys view: McNutt is a quality mid-round prospect. He's a big, physical WR who knows how to square his shoulders to the line of scrimmage, use his frame to "box out" defenders, and comes back to the ball.

NFL | Marvin McNutt meets with three teams    Wed Apr 11, 02:07 AM

Jaguars | Have spoken with two WRs at Senior Bowl    Thu Jan 26, 01:08 PM

NFL | Marvin McNutt measures in at Senior Bowl    Mon Jan 23, 02:56 PM

Iowa WR Marvin McNutt measured 6-foot-2 1/2, 216 pounds at the Senior Bowl.

Footballguys view: McNutt was not as big as some thought, but he's a WR who plays bigger than his size. He has a large catch radius and makes for a good red zone threat.
