Eagles | Donovan McNabb to retire with team Tue May 14, 08:10 AM
Free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings) said on his radio show that he will retire as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles in September.
Footballguys view: McNabb played 11 seasons with the Eagles and led the team to 5 NFC Championship Games and 1 Super Bowl. The Eagles will host the Chiefs (and former coach Andy Reid) on Thursday September 19th and that's when the ceremony for McNabb will be. Now the debate can start about whether or not he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. |

NFL | Donovan McNabb confident he'll get another shot Tue Sep 11, 06:11 PM
Free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings) remains confident that another NFL team will give him a shot this year.
Footballguys view: We're not sure the phone will ring for McNabb as his best days are far behind him. If a team has a rash of injuries at the QB position then perhaps the veteran QB would get a chance. |

Cardinals | Could add someone to QB competition Wed Aug 15, 10:35 AM
There remains a possibility for the Arizona Cardinals to bring in another passer to push QBs Kevin Kolb and John Skelton. According to league sources, Kolb is expected to be given every opportunity to win the job the next two weeks, but other options could arise as well.
Footballguys view: Adding a veteran camp cut is an option as is a street free agent like Donovan McNabb. Kolb and Skelton haven't really distanced themselves from each other in the preseason. |

NFL | Donovan McNabb not getting much interest Sun Jul 1, 03:50 PM
Free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings) has not receive much interest this offseason even though he said there is a 80 or 90 percent chance that he would play this season.
Footballguys view: No surprise here. McNabb would like to catch on somewhere as a backup on a Super Bowl contender but those jobs aren't available. Injuries in training camp could improve the interest level in McNabb. |

Broncos | No interest in QB McNabb? Fri Jun 29, 04:08 PM
Cecil Lammey, NFL Insider for 102.3 ESPN Denver and senior writer at Footballguys.com, reports via Twitter that he's heard the Denver Broncos have no interest in free agent QB Donovan McNabb. Currently the Broncos have Caleb Hanie, Adam Weber, and rookie Brock Osweiler behind starter Peyton Manning.
Footballguys view: Upon signing Manning in free agency, Broncos VP John Elway stated there was 'no plan B' behind the superstar QB. Hanie is considered by some as the primary backup, but he's struggled during minicamp and OTAs. However, Osweiler has looked like an improved QB this offseason. There's a chance the rookie could win the primary backup job behind Manning in training camp. |

NFL | Donovan McNabb looking at three teams Fri Jun 29, 01:27 PM
Free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings) said there is an 80 to 90 percent chance of him playing this season and that he has been looking at three teams he would like to join. McNabb said he looking to sign with a Super Bowl contender that has a good running game, weapons at wide receiver and defense that has been playing well.
Footballguys view: McNabb hasn't generated much interset on the open market this offseason. He'll likely have to wait for injuries to hit the QB position in training camp before getting a shot with a new team. McNabb isn't going to compete for a starting job, but some team could sign him as veteran insurance as a backup. |

NFL | Andy Reid endorses Donovan McNabb Tue May 15, 02:19 PM
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid, free-agent QB Donovan McNabb's (Vikings) former head coach, said any team would be wise to take a chance on the quarterback. 'I still think he can play. I think the world of him, and we had some great years together here. I'm always wishing him the best and a fan of his. I got a chance to see him at Brian Dawkins' retirement (event),' Reid said. 'He looks good. He looks physically good. He looks like he could go out and play tomorrow. I would highly recommend (him).'
Footballguys view: McNabb has said that he'd be willing to play for any team, but there are few interested in his services right now. The Eagles QB corps is full with Trent Edwards and Mike Kafka competing to be the primary backup behind Michael Vick. Rookie Nick Foles is likely to be their third-string developmental QB. |

NFL | Donovan McNabb waiting for an opportunity Sat May 5, 09:38 AM
Free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings) said that he has been working out, getting into better shape and focusing on his fundamentals as a passer, and he's ready just as soon as some team wants to pick up the phone and call. 'I've been training hard and preparing myself out in San Diego working with George Whitfield, the obviously well-known quarterback guru, supposedly, for over the past month,' McNabb said. 'Just kind of refining the skills, working on the mechanics and getting back to a high level, an elite level. I'm just waiting for the opportunity to display that.'
Footballguys view: McNabb is not the same player he used to be, and is unlikely to get any interest as a starting QB anymore. Even as a backup teams might now want McNabb around. We'll see if injuries to the QB position in training camp open up an opportunity for McNabb. |

'What happens a lot of times is we look at what the list says, so we talk about the five NFC Championship Games, the six Pro Bowls and then we come to the end, 'Well, he never won the big game,'' McNabb said. 'Well, Peyton never won the big game until he won the Super Bowl. Dan Marino never won the big game. Does that mean his career is a failure? No, not at all.'

Redskins | Donovan McNabb thinks Robert Griffin will struggle Thu Mar 29, 12:02 PM
Free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings) said he does not believe Baylor QB Robert Griffin III will be successful if he lands with the Washington Redskins. 'No. I say that because a lot of the time ego gets too involved when it comes to being in Washington,' McNabb said. 'Here's a guy that's coming out who is very talented -mobile, strong arm. We've already heard he's intelligent, a football mind. Are you going to cater the offense around his talent and what he's able to do or are you going to bring the Houston offense with Matt Schaub over to him and have him kind of be embedded in that?' McNabb added, 'When you talk about RG3, you talk about his ability, you talk about how smart he is, his arm strength - what type of offense do you run with it? Is the the spread offense that you have him continue to flourish in. Or, are you just going to have him in a fox hole with a makeshift offensive line? You keep bringing in receivers. You have a solid tight end in Fred Davis that you need to feature. What are we going to see? I don't think it's a great fit.'

Hester believes McNabb could not get up to speed fast enough with the Bears' offense to make a difference. And Hester even suggested that McNabb's arrival could be counterproductive, as any time spent working with McNabb would take away from time the rest of the offense needs to work with QB Caleb Hanie. 'It's going to be tough right now to pick up a quarterback that hasn't played in the Mike Martz offense,' Hester said. Vikings | Donovan McNabb to be cut Thu Dec 1, 01:56 PM
The Minnesota Vikings are expected to release QB Donovan McNabb Thursday, Dec. 1.
Footballguys view: McNabb may be claimed by either the Dallas Cowboys or the Chicago Bears. We imagine the Chicago native would prefer to play for the Bears. And when you draft a young guy first round and you're 1-5, obviously, everyone wants to see the younger guy, the so-called spark.' McNabb added that he can and still wants to start in the NFL.

'But unfortunately it's not so.' McNabb said he will prepare as if he will have another opportunity to see action. 'At this particular point, it's for me to continue to prepare and make sure that we continue to support Christian and make sure that he's ready. But most important for me, is to prepare because I'm just one play from going back in. Just make sure I'm ready when called upon and try to lead us to victory.'
