Chiefs | Joe McKnight tear's Achilles'    Fri Sep 26, 01:13 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Joe McKnight (Achilles') suffered a torn Achilles' in the team's practice Thursday, Sept. 26.

Footballguys view: McKnight had just arrived back on the scene with a nice week against the Dolphins porous coverage against running backs in the passing game last week. Cyrus Gray's stance as the Chiefs #3 running back is solidified.

Chiefs | Joe McKnight had surgery    Mon Jul 21, 08:20 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Joe McKnight (knee) had arthroscopic knee surgery after minicamp ended last month and is close to returning to practice.

Footballguys view: McKnight is trying to get his career back on track with a fresh start with the Chiefs. He spent last year out of football, but could make the Chiefs final roster as a reserve running back and return man.

Chiefs | Cyrus Gray will have to compete for spot    Sun Jul 13, 08:24 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Cyrus Gray will have to hold off RB Joe McKnight during training camp if he wants to make the final roster.

Footballguys view: Nothing to really worry about here for most fantasy owners. Gray is a good all-purpose back to monitor in super deep dynasty leagues, but that's about it. The primary backup behind Jamaal Charles is second-year pro Knile Davis. Fantasy owners should handcuff him to Charles if roster depth allows it.

Packers | Joe McKnight to work out    Fri Aug 30, 05:35 PM

The Green Bay Packers are scheduled to work out free-agent RB Joe McKnight (Jets).

Footballguys view: The Packers were probably poised to cut one or both of James Starks and Alex Green before DuJuan Harris went down, and think they might be able to do better. This also possibly backs up a suggestion that fourth-round pick Johnathan Franklin might be on the roster bubble because McKnight is a similar back.

Jets | Joe McKnight cut    Mon Aug 26, 08:25 AM

The New York Jets released RB Joe McKnight.

Footballguys view: McKnight should be able to catch on with another team due to his ability on special teams. He was held back in camp this year by problems with his head (concussion, migraines) and has not made much of a positive impression during his time in the pros. He was a disappointment in college at USC where he failed to live up to Reggie Bush comparisons. Now he's a disappointment in the pros and is looking for a fresh start.

Jets | Joe McKnight practices    Wed Aug 21, 08:13 PM

New York Jets RB Joe McKnight (head) went through a full-contact practice Wednesday, Aug. 21, for the second consecutive day. 'Right now, the last two days he's been out there full pads that's good to see,' head coach Rex Ryan said.

Footballguys view: McKnight isn't guaranteed a roster spot so it's good to see him back on the practice field. He apparently had a concussion even though the team was trying to paint the picture that he was just being bothered by migraines.

Jets | Four practicing, two out    Tue Aug 13, 10:15 AM

New York Jets CB Antonio Cromartie (elbow), QB Greg McElroy (ankle), QB Geno Smith (ankle) and RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) are practicing Tuesday, Aug. 13. WR Clyde Gates (head) and RB Joe McKnight (head) are out.

Footballguys view: Smith is competing with Mark Sanchez for the starting job. The rookie has been having an up and down training camp and there may not be anyone emerging in that battle. Ivory will be the team's starter if healthy. He's a swift runner who can get to the second level quickly. Durability has always been a concern with him during his pro career. The Jets may employ a RBBC to help keep Ivory fresh in 2013.

Footballguys view: Some feel McKnight was concussed earlier in training camp but the Jets never confirmed that. We'll see if he can get back on the field and play against the Jaguars on Saturday.

Jets | Chris Ivory unlikely to play in preseason game    Tue Aug 6, 06:34 PM

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) is unlikely to play in the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 9, thanks to a tweaked hamstring. RBs Mike Goodson and Joe McKnight (head) haven't been available in drills, either, so RB Bilal Powell has received a lot of the repetitions in training camp.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Ivory is a talented RB but durability issues have plagued him over the course of his career. The team has to manage this hamstring injury carefully so it does not get re-aggravated. Ivory's current ADP is RB25 (4.12) in 12 team PPR leagues.

Jets | Joe McKnight arrested    Tue Aug 6, 01:44 AM

New York Jets RB Joe McKnight was arrested last week in New Jersey after police discovered two outstanding warrants when he was stopped for speeding and changing lanes without signaling. McKnight failed to pay a $200 fine for failing to produce an insurance card in another town, and another unpaid $120 fine from a ticket for failing to observe a traffic signal.

Footballguys view: McKnight has enough to worry about on the field without this problem arising. He suffered a concussion in practice on Friday and has yet to return to practice.

Jets | Two sitting    Mon Aug 5, 11:01 AM

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) and RB Joe McKnight (head) are out of practice Monday, Aug. 5.

Footballguys view: Ivory is a talented player but has been oft-injured during his pro career. The Jets want him to be their lead back but may have to use a RBBC to keep him fresh. His ADP keeps dropping because of these injury concerns.

Jets | Joe McKnight leaves practice     Fri Aug 2, 12:08 PM

New York Jets WR Joe McKnight (undisclosed) left practice early Friday, Aug. 2.

Footballguys view: The Jets backfield may end up producing a lot of opportunity for backs lower on the depth chart if Chris Ivory can't stay healthy, but McKnight probably won't be one of them.

Jets | Joe McKnight activated    Fri Jul 26, 10:42 AM

New York Jets RB Joe McKnight passed his conditioning test and was activated from the non-football injury list.

Footballguys view: The Jets backfield is unstable right now with Mike Goodson not in camp and Chris Ivory relegated to riding the stationary bike on the sidelines. If McKnight can build some buzz, he could end up on the waiver wire speed dial list.

Jets | Joe McKnight goes on NFI list    Thu Jul 25, 09:10 PM

Jets | Roster moves    Thu Jul 25, 05:21 PM

The New York Jets placed RB Mike Goodson on the Reserve/Did Not Report list Thursday, July 25, and put RB Joe McKnight (ankle, leg) on the Non-Football Injury list.

Footballguys view: Rex Ryan said of Goodson's absence, "We knew Mike was not going to report and we understand why he's not here". We're not sure what that means, but with Goodson facing some serious legal issues, Bilal Powell is looking more like a deep sleeper to watch behind the talented but unproven Chris Ivory.

Jets | Bilal Powell fighting for roster spot    Wed Jun 26, 10:14 PM

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell is in need of a strong training camp and preseason to stick around, as the team brought in RBs Chris Ivory and Mike Goodson during the offseason. Powell and RB Joe McKnight are fighting for jobs, and McKnight has value due to his skills as a kick returner. Powell's value increases if Goodson is suspended for his recent arrest.

Footballguys view: So basically, Powell could not make the team, but if he does, he'll be situated behind two backs that have trouble staying healthy earlier in their careers. He's not draftable, but Powell could be on our waiver wire speed dial list at some point during the season.

Jets | Joe McKnight says No. 1 RB not decided    Fri Jun 14, 05:40 PM

New York Jets RB Joe McKnight said none of the running backs won the starting running back job during offseason workouts and the competition will be decided during training camp. McKnight is expected to compete for RBs Chris Ivory, Mike Goodson and Bilal Powell for the starting job with Ivory considered the favorite at this point.

Footballguys view: We'd be shocked if McKnight wins the starting job. In fact, he may be on the roster bubble. McKnight has never lived up to the hype with the Jets or even dating back to his days at USC. The starter is likely to be Ivory with Goodson and Powell competing to be the primary backups.

Jets | Chris Ivory has strong lead for featured work    Fri May 24, 01:06 AM

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory impressed in practice Wednesday, May 22, and is lining up to be the feature back. Mike Goodson's legal troubles are jeopardizing his future with the team. Joe McKnight doesn't appear long for the club. Bilal Powell is the only true competition for touches.

Footballguys view: This RB situation became clearer after Goodson's arrest. It's looking more and more like Ivory is going to be the lead back with Goodson or Powell serving as a primary backup. Ivory is a strong runner with speed to be a big play back. He's had durability issues in the past but if healthy is a good RB2 with RB1 upside. His current ADP is RB24 and he's coming off the board at 4.03.

Jets | Joe McKnight not giving up roster spot    Thu May 16, 03:31 PM

New York Jets RB Joe McKnight said he is not going to give up his roster spot because the team brought in competition. "I don't care who they bring in, they're going (to have to) kill me to take my spot. You understand that now?" McKnight said in the locker room Thursday. "Just because they bring Goodson and Ivory in they already think I'm gone. They just bringing people in for competition, they ain't bringing nobody in to say, 'Joe is done.'"

Footballguys view: McKnight has failed to impress during his short pro career. He's fourth on the depth chart right now but could stick on the roster because of his ability to contribute on special teams.

Jets | Joe McKnight's spot could be in jeopardy    Wed May 8, 10:19 PM

New York Jets RB Joe McKnight's roster spot could be in jeopardy if the team decides to sign free-agent WR Joshua Cribbs (Browns) because Cribbs could handle the kick return duties.

Footballguys view: McKnight has failed to do much during his pro career and now may be the odd man out with the Jets. We'd consider him fourth on the depth chart right now behind Chris Ivory, Mike Goodson, and Bilal Powell.

Jets | Chris Ivory acquired    Fri Apr 26, 09:46 PM

The New York Jets have acquired RB Chris Ivory from the New Orleans Saints for a fourth-round pick.

Footballguys view: The acquisition of Ivory will help fill the gap left by the underwhelming Shonn Greene but how will it affect Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight? Ultimately, if Ivory is healthy, he's likely to get the most carries in this backfield.

Jets | Mike Goodson to compete for starting job    Fri Mar 15, 10:33 AM

New York Jets RB Mike Goodson is expected to have a significant role with the team. He could potentially be the team's starting running back in 2013. RBs Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight do not have experience as every-down backs, and the Jets feel Goodson was one of the top sleepers in free agency.

Footballguys view: Goodson was a sleeper of free agency but durability concerns prevented him from drawing more interest. He proved during his time with the Panthers that he could produce as a starter and now has to be considered the favorite to win the job with the Jets.
