Patriots | Should Tom Brady talk to Rob Gronkowski?    Mon Feb 11, 09:27 AM

Former NFL LB and current analyst Willie McGinest said New England Patriots QB Tom Brady should sit down and talk with TE Rob Gronkowski about his behavior off the field. 'The only guy on that offense that could probably say anything is Tom,' McGinest said. 'He has the years in. Or maybe Wes (Welker). It has to be guys (Gronkowski is) around all the time. I don't really know the dynamics of that team.'

Cardinals | Ken Whisenhunt defends quarterbacks     Thu Jul 26, 09:36 AM

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt took issue with comments made by former NFL player Willie McGinest that players prefer QB John Skelton over QB Kevin Kolb. 'I have no perception whatever that that's going on,' Whisenhunt said. 'From what I've seen, standing in the huddle, which I don't believe he was in the huddle, the team's responded to both guys and feel like both guys can be successful for them. So I don't put a whole lot of stock into that. If he's willing to say who it was or what they're talking about and what context, maybe it would be worthy of commenting.'

Footballguys view: Whisenhunt did the best he could other than not even addressing the comments. He could still have a locker room issue if he installs Kolb after the quarterback doesn't clearly outplay Skelton in camp and the preseason this year.

Patriots | Analyst critical of Wes Welker     Wed Apr 25, 08:50 AM

NFL Network analyst Willie McGinest is critical of New England Patriots franchise free-agent WR Wes Welker's decision to potentially skip the team's mandatory June minicamp. 'I just don't like the diva attitude,' McGinest said. 'Let's keep it real. Prior to the Patriots, this is a guy who played three years, had 96 receptions, never had a 1,000-yard season ... This $9 million-plus that they're offering is half of his last contract. That's a lot of money. Let's not forget that they signed Brandon Lloyd, they signed (WR Anthony Gonzalez), they signed (WR Deion) Branch back, they got the two tight ends; they have weapons on that offense. So look, Wes, it's time to take off the leopard-printed cowboy boots, get off the party tour and get back to work.'

Footballguys view: It's surprising that McGinest would knock Welker publicly. Perhaps it's part of the long-standing rivalry between offensive and defensive players.

Jets | Is McGinest a possibility?    Thu Jul 2, 05:58 PM

Adam Schefter, from ESPN, reported on his twitter page that he believes the Jets should go after veteran Willie McGinest who is looking to extend his NFL career.

Footballguys view: With the suspension of Calvin Pace the Jets could add McGinest to take some of the pressure off of Vernon Gholston who has not impressed so far in OTAs. We'll see if the Jets are interested in the veteran, or if he returns to the Patriots - who have not yet displayed a public interest in bringing him back.

Patriots | No formal talks with McGinest    Thu Jul 2, 03:24 PM

Christopher L. Gasper, of the Boston Globe, reports the New England Patriots have not had any formal talks with unrestricted free-agent LB Willie McGinest (Browns), who would be open to signing with the Patriots.

Footballguys view: At this point it seems like the interest in one-sided as McGinest doesn't want to stop playing and feels that he has more good football left to play in his career.
