Ravens | McGahee fine with lack of playing time    Sat Nov 14, 06:27 PM

Ken Murray, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Willis McGahee said he is not upset about the lack of playing time he is seeing and said that RB Ray Rice is playing well for the team. Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said McGahee would get more touches if the team got more snaps during games.

Ravens | McGahee not complaining about lack to playing time    Tue Nov 3, 04:51 PM

Dan Kolko, of MASNsports.com, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee has only carried the ball 10 times in the last three games, but head coach John Harbaugh said McGahee has not been complaining about the situation.

Ravens | McGahee gets two touches Week 5    Sun Oct 11, 11:54 PM

Edward Lee, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee had one carry for a loss of two yards and a four-yard reception during the team's Week 5 game. McGahee acknowledged after the game he was a little confused about his role with the offense. McGahee said, "I don't know what's going on. I was only in there for a little bit. You would think it would have been better than that, but it is what it is."

Our view: McGahee did point out that RB Ray Rice was performing well and that there was no reason to take him out of the game.

Ravens | McGahee scores twice Week 3    Mon Sep 28, 12:44 AM

The Associated Press reports Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee had seven carries for 67 yards with two touchdowns during the team's Week 3 game.

Our view: McGahee was once again the primary ball carrier for Baltimore inside the red zone this week. He continues to be quick to the hole and broke a number of tackles against Cleveland. Ray Rice may get more carries and catches, but McGahee remains a strong play as long as the Raven offense continues to click.

Ravens | McGahee scores twice Week 2    Sun Sep 20, 09:37 PM

The Associated Press reports Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee had 15 carries for 79 yards with two touchdowns Week 2. He also caught two passes for 10 receiving yards.

Our view: After a strong first half, McGahee finished with nearly twice the rush attempts as starter Ray Rice and the majority of the red zone duty. This now has the look of a full blown RBBC.

Ravens | Rice to serve as red zone threat    Tue Sep 1, 10:27 AM

CBSSports.com reports Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice will take carries away from RB Willis McGahee and FB Le'Ron McClain, including in the red zone. Rice will also be heavily used out of the backfield for screen passes.

Our view: This is contradictory to a report yesterday from Jamison Hensley, of the Baltimore Sun, that noted Willis McGahee has carried the ball 5 of the 6 times the Ravens have run inside the 5-yard line so far this preseason. The reality is the Ravens will continue to use a 3-headed RBBC, and may give all of the backs a chance to carry at the goal line.

Ravens | McGahee the goalline back?    Mon Aug 31, 11:01 AM

Jamison Hensley, from the Baltimore Sun, reports that besides the Statue of Liberty play to Ray Rice against the New York Jets, Willis McGahee has carried the ball on five of the Ravens' six runs inside the 5-yard line ( Le'Ron McClain had the other rushing attempt). McGahee scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter Saturday, showing he can still punch the ball into the end zone. In five NFL seasons, he has 38 rushing touchdowns. "I love the goal line," McGahee said. "It's a hit-or-miss play. Nine times out of 10, I want it to be a hit."

Our view: The Ravens are still going to employ a 3-headed RBBC, and this trend may give us some insight as to how they will use Willis McGahee. Ray Rice should get most of the carries and receptions out of the backfield, McClain is always a strong option for short-yardage work, and the team may look to McGahee as a TD vulture. McGahee's current ADP is RB42, and even though we're not crazy about his 2009 prospects, he does represent great value as a late round pick.

Ravens | McGahee finds the end zone    Sat Aug 29, 11:50 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee had six carries for 16 yards and one touchdown during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29, against the Carolina Panthers. He also had three receptions for eight yards.

Our view: McGahee is not going to pass Ray Rice on the depth chart, but he'll still have bye week/injury value as part of a very effective three-headed backfield in Baltimore, and if Rice gets hurt, McGahee will be startable in every format.

Ravens | McGahee healthier, happier    Wed Aug 19, 07:52 PM

David Ginsburg, of the Associated Press, reports that Ravens RB Willis McGahee doesn't appear to have any lingering healthy issues from offseason surgeries, and he is also on good terms with the Ravens coaches. "We've got a smarter Willis McGahee, more of a student of the game with a good work ethic," running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery said. "He has totally committed himself to the Ravens' way that John Harbaugh preaches. He has really taken the fundamentals and the techniques to the fullest." "I told Willis, 'I love the way you came to work,'" Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said.

Our view: We were swearing off McGahee after ankle and knee surgeries in the offseason, but his ADP has dropped so significantly that he's actually a good value and late-round pick. If he gets a big part of the Baltimore backfield, you get a steal, and if he's not doing much early, you can drop him with impunity for a waiver wire wonder. That contrasts with other late round RBs that you might feel inclined to keep longer because they are injury handcuffs. It is important to build some early season flexibility into your roster, and a late-round pick of McGahee accomplishes that goal.

Ravens | Rice working with first team    Tue Aug 18, 10:24 AM

Ravens | McGahee has adjusted attitude    Wed Aug 12, 01:36 PM

Aaron Wilson, of the Carroll County Times, reports that Ravens RB Willis McGahee is displaying the attitude and work ethic that the coaches have wanted from him during training camp. McGahee said, "I'm a little different, I'm not going to lie to you. I go with the flow. That's how you've got to be. You can't go around here moping about things. You just control what you do, and that's your own destiny." RB Coach Wilbert Montgomery has noticed, saying "We've got a smarter Willis McGahee, more of a student of the game with a good work ethic. He has totally committed himself to the Ravens' way that John Harbaugh preaches. He has really taken the fundamentals and the techniques to the fullest."

Our view: McGahee is still the third most valuable fantasy RB of the three in Baltimore because second-year RB Ray Rice will get first crack in the rotation, and LeRon McClain will get the all-important goal line carries. Still, this is encouraging news for McGahee's fantasy prospects this season.

Ravens | Rice getting majority of first team carries    Tue Aug 4, 10:59 AM

Jamison Hensley, of the Baltimore Sun, reports that Ravens RB Ray Rice is getting the majority of the first-team reps at RB, even though offensive coordinator Cam Cameron has stated that there will be a three-headed RBBC with Rice, Willis McGahee, and LeRon McClain again this year.

Our view: We still love Rice as a sixth-eighth round pick. The news about the RBBC will keep his ADP from getting too high, allowing you to steal him as your third or fourth RB after you've filled out your starters at other positions.

Ravens | Cameron says RBBC again this year    Fri Jul 31, 08:05 PM

BaltimoreRavens.com reports that offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said it will be a RBBC again this year. Cameron said, "I think all our running backs are the healthiest they've been. It will be running back by committee. You could see all three of them in the game at the same time. You could see any combination of the two. We've got three good running backs, and I think everybody is clear that you need three guys, at least." Head coach John Harbaugh also commented that Willis McGahee looked "explosive", had a good day, and "ran over a couple of people out there."

Our view: We still think the odds are that McGahee gets hurt and Rice gets the most work of the threesome. It is important to note that even though a ton of talk swirled in the offseason about LeRon McClain becoming a fullback, he is still clearly a running back in Cameron's mind.

Ravens | McGahee taken off PUP list    Thu Jul 30, 05:20 PM

Mike Duffy, of BaltimoreRavens.com, reports the Baltimore Ravens have taken RB Willis McGahee (knee, ankle) off the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Our view: The team wanted to monitor his knee through the first few workouts. According to the report McGahee looked very good performing conditioning drills on the sideline.

Ravens | McGahee misses practice Wednesday    Wed Jul 29, 01:52 PM

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee (knee, ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, July 29.

Our view: It does appear McGahee will come off the Physically Unable to Perform list shortly. He did some running on the sidelines during practice. Coach Harbaugh has been impressed with McGahee's conditioning this offseason as the RB tries to bounce back from two different surgeries. "It looks like he's done a good job," Harbaugh said.

Ravens | McGahee won't be on PUP for long    Tue Jul 28, 01:11 PM

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee (knee, ankle) is expected to come off the physically unable to perform list no later than Thursday, July 30, according to head coach John Harbaugh. 'We want to make sure Willis' knee doesn't swell up,' Harbaugh said. 'We want to make sure he can take the pounding of a workout and see how he responds.'

Ravens | 10 placed on PUP    Tue Jul 28, 12:48 PM

Ravens | Rice could start    Tue Jul 28, 09:39 AM

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice has a great chance to start this season due to injuries to RB Willis McGahee (knee, ankle).

Our view: Rice not only could start, Rice should start for the Ravens. Willis McGahee is not a favorite of the coaching staff, and has been sidelined while he's recovering from two offseason surgeries. Rice has bulked up this offseason and he has been impressing coaches with his work ethic. Rice and FB Le'Ron McClain should get a majority of the carries for the Ravens this year.

Ravens | McGahee says he is healthy    Wed Jul 22, 02:12 PM

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports on his Twitter page that Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee (knee, ankle) will be completely healthy starting training camp and will report in shape. McGahee believes he could start camp as a backup but hopes to be able to win the starting job.

Our view: If McGahee can practice in full in training camp and work his butt off to impress head coach John Harbaugh, then he will have a good-sized role in the Baltimore backfield, but his days of being the featured back are over.

Ravens | Harbaugh will use three-headed RB again    Mon Jun 15, 08:13 PM

Mike Preston, of the Baltimore Sun, reports that it looks like John Harbaugh will use LeRon McClain, Ray Rice, and Willis McGahee as a "three-headed monster" again this year.

Our view: "I prefer the best way for us to be successful," Harbaugh said. "If its one running back or three running backs, we just need to get the job done." With McClain playing more fullback, and McGahee recovering from ankle and knee surgery, Rice is the best pick of the trio.

Ravens | McGahee had two offseason surgeries    Wed Jun 10, 06:37 PM

Agent Drew Rosenhaus said on his Twitter page that Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee (knee, ankle) needed surgery on both his knee and ankle during the offseason.

Our view: First it was speculated to be knee surgery, then it was revealed that to be ankle surgery - and now it comes out that both body parts needed surgery. Perhaps Mike Preston from the Baltimore Sun wasn't too far off when he speculated that the Ravens may just cut the injury prone back.

Ravens | Could McGahee be released?    Wed Jun 10, 08:46 AM

Mike Preston, of The Baltimore Sun, reports if they could, the Baltimore Ravens possibly would fast-forward RB Willis McGahee's exit out of town as he has been a disappointment since signing a seven-year, $40 million contract in March 2007.

Our view: It's pure speculation on Preston's part, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen. McGahee doesn't have the greatest relationship with coach Harbaugh, and the Ravens have Jalen Parmele and Cedric Peerman that could be very good RB2s - for a cheaper price.

Ravens | McGahee says knee not affecting him    Tue Jun 9, 07:48 PM

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee (knee) said his knee has not affected his workouts this week.

Our view: 'I don't feel anything in my knee. It was just getting it stronger and ready to break long runs and make great blocks,' McGahee said.

Ravens | McGahee says knee not bothering him this week    Tue Jun 9, 05:57 PM

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee (knee) does not have a problem working as the backup to RB Ray Rice for now.

Our view: McGahee, who has been limited most of the offseason due to arthroscopic knee surgery, said he doesn't expect to immediately supplant Rice. 'It wouldn't be right,' McGahee said. 'I don't mind. Work is work. That's either with the first, second or third (string offense).' McGahee said his knee has not bothered him this week and he is focusing on making it stronger.

Ravens | McGahee present at practice Tuesday    Tue Jun 2, 05:17 PM

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee (knee) participated in practice Tuesday, June 2, and worked with the second-team offense. He was not present for any of the team's practices last week.

Our view: McGahee was not wearing a red jersey in practice - an indication that his knee is feeling better. McGahee is not a favorite of the coaching staff and he needs to show durability the rest of the summer or he may see his carries reduced. Coach John Harbaugh had no comment on McGahee's condition after practice, "I don't know, I have no idea where he's at. It's the first day he's been here in a week and a half. I can't gauge it."

Ravens | McGahee absent Wednesday    Wed May 27, 04:53 PM

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee was not present for team's passing camp Wednesday, May 27.

Our view: It is not known why McGahee missed practice, but hopefully for McGahee's sake it's an excused absence. He doesn't have the greatest relationship with head coach John Harbaugh and will see strong competition for carries from Le'Ron McClain, Ray Rice, Jalen Parmele, and even rookie Cedric Peerman. He must make a strong impression with the team if he wants to be a contributor in 2009.

Ravens | McGahee expects to be healthy for camp    Sat May 9, 04:08 PM

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee (leg) said he will be fully recovered from offseason surgery by the start of training camp.

Our view: With Le'Ron McClain set to play a more traditional FB role in 2009 it could mean more production from Willis McGahee - if he's healthy. Contrary to earlier reports the surgery was on his ankle and not on his knee. McGahee needs to have a good camp because he'll see plenty of competition from Ray Rice, Jalen Parmele, and Cedric Peerman.

Ravens | McGahee could be limited at minicamp    Wed May 6, 03:54 PM

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee (knee) could be limited during the team's upcoming minicamp. McGahee recently underwent a procedure to clean out his knee.

Our view: The story doesn't indicate which knee it was, but it's more than likely the same one that has given him problems throughout his career. His injury history and conditioning issues may put him on the roster bubble this summer, especially since the Ravens drafted the versatile RB Cedric Peerman.
