Eagles | Surprise trade from Cardinals coming?    Fri Jul 1, 03:32 PM

Jim Trotter, from SI.com, reports via Twitter that the Cardinals could trade for Eagles QB Kevin Kolb with a surprise player.

Footballguys view: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie would not be considered a 'surprise' trade option. Some feel rookie CB Patrick Peterson or third-year RB Chris 'Beanie' Wells could be on the trade table. It's difficult to imagine the Cardinals trading Peterson before he ever plays a down for them, so it might be Wells who gets dealt. Wells could give the Eagles a veteran backup behind starter LeSean McCoy.

Eagles | RB McCoy says conditioning not where it needs to be    Wed Jun 1, 02:35 PM

Les Bowen, from Philly.com, reports Eagles RB LeSean McCoy recently commented on how his conditioning this offseason wasn't normal for this time of year compared to years past. "Nah," McCoy said after joining the Eagles' impromptu player-organized workouts in Burlington County, McCoy's first appearance. "I'm a couple pounds heavier than I want to be. It's one of those things where you work out every day, but it's not the same. [Normally you would have] teammates pushing you, guys you got to war with out on the field, day in and day out, for practices and camp, and games. It isn't quite the same. I think everybody is affected a little bit. I'm still in good shape, but I was fatigued a little bit."

Footballguys view: Refreshing honesty here from McCoy. He's added a few pounds of muscle this offseason in order to stand up to the pounding he takes in the league and that may contribute to him feeling differently.

Eagles | Know running game remains vital    Sat Jun 26, 05:05 PM

Eric Edholm, from ProFootballWeekly.com, reports that with all of the talk about how the offense will be different with the change from Donovan McNabb to Kevin Kolb at quarterback, it's easy to forget how important the run game might be in the big picture. It's nearly a given that the Eagles will throw the ball more than they run it this season. Since Andy Reid took over in 1999, the team has thrown the ball more than it passed it every season and has hovered around the 60 percent passing mark several times. But taking pressure off Kolb to win games by himself will be an important element of the Eagles' offensive identity.

Footballguys view: LeSean McCoy is going to be the main man for the Eagles, but shouldn't be a guy who gets 22-25 carries a game. Instead, the Eagles will complement him with veteran power back Mike Bell. Because he's been injury prone during his pro career, the Eagles have an option behind Bell (rookie Charles Scott) in case he gets banged up again. Fullback Leonard Weaver has been told that he won't see as many carries this year as he had last season, but he'll still be relied on as a receiver out of the backfield.

Eagles | McCoy picking up the blitz effectively    Mon Aug 3, 08:25 PM

Peter King, from SI.com, reports that former offensive lineman Ross Tucker is still talking about rookie Eagles back LeSean McCoy's blitz-pickup ability.

Footballguys view: This meshes with earlier reports we've heard about McCoy from Eagles training camp. Not only has he been tearing it up as a runner and a receiver, he's also been a willing and able blocker. Blitz pickup/pass protection is perhaps the biggest hurdle for rookie running backs, since the position, by nature, is very instinctive. Players that can pick up the blitz and know where to be on passing situations are likely to be on the field more - especially in today's pass-happy NFL.

Eagles | McCoy is a big play machine    Sun Aug 2, 04:55 PM

Chris McPherson, from PhiladelphiaEagles.com, notes running back LeSean McCoy is making more big plays early in these full-team practices than he has ever seen from a rookie. Everything about him has been impressive. He runs low, accelerates well and makes great cuts when he has the football in his hands. As a receiver, McCoy has been nearly flawless. McCoy hasn't been perfect as far as where he has lined up and the many mental challenges that he faces, but at no time have the coaches stopped a play because he lined up wrong, or ran a wrong route, or headed in the wrong direction out of the huddle.

Footballguys view: With Westbrook out rookie LeSean McCoy has been making the most of his opportunity. He is must-handcuff for all Westbrook owners and the Eagles would be wise to keep Westy fresh by using McCoy more than people are expecting.
