Redskins | Dwayne Haskins not a starting option    Mon Oct 7, 04:20 PM

Washington Redskins QB Dwayne Haskins will not be a candidate to start in Week 6, according to interim head coach Bill Callahan. QB Case Keenum or QB Colt McCoy will be the starting quarterback against the Miami Dolphins.

Footballguys view: The team has stressed they won't rush Haskins and they need to be patient with his development. If he's not starting against the hapless Dolphins, Haskins may not be starting at anytime in the near future.

Redskins | Colt McCoy getting Week 5 start    Fri Oct 4, 01:58 PM

Washington Redskins QB Colt McCoy will start Sunday, Oct. 6 when the Redskins host the New England Patriots in Week 5.

Washington Redskins QBs Case Keenum, Dwayne Haskins and Colt McCoy will all be evaluated through the end of practice Wednesday, Oct. 2, as head coach Jay Gruden is 'not sure' who he will start in Week 5 against the New England Patriots.

Footballguys view: Haskins is their first-round pick and quarterback of the future, but this is a bad matchup for the rookie. We'll see if they throw Keenum out there in this tough start and perhaps replace him with Haskins if/when the game is out of control.

Redskins | Week 4 Washington Redskins inactives    Sun Sep 29, 11:39 AM

The Washington Redskins have declared CB Aaron Colvin, QB Colt McCoy, WR Terry McLaurin, OG Brandon Scherff, TE Jordan Reed, LB Cassanova McKinzy and C Chase Roullier inactive for Week 4.

Footballguys view: Robert Davis, Kelvin Harmon, and Steven Sims will get more play with McLaurin out and we shouldn't consider him a sure thing for next week's game vs. New England. Scherff and Rouiller being out means Washington only has 2 of their projected starters on the offensive line healthy for this game.

Redskins | Week 4 injury report for Washington    Fri Sep 27, 03:16 PM

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (concussion) and C Chase Roullier (knee) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 4 versus the New York Giants. OG Brandon Scherff (ankle) and WR Terry McLaurin (hamstring) did not practice Friday, Sept. 27, and are listed as questionable. QB Case Keenum (foot), CB Quinton Dunbar (knee), LB Cassanova McKinzy (hip), DL Jonathan Allen (knee), QB Colt McCoy (fibula) and CB Josh Norman (foot) fully participated in practice Friday and no longer appear on the injury report.

Redskins | Case Keenum heading toward Week 1 start    Sun Aug 18, 03:32 PM

Washington Redskins QB Case Keenum is on track to the be the Week 1 starter under center, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter Sunday, Aug. 18. Head coach Jay Gruden said Colt McCoy (leg) may not be ready to return from a broken leg until 'two or three weeks into the season.'

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Keenum should open the season as the starter but Washington should turn things over to 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins at some point. While Keenum is a 'bridge' quarterback, Haskins is the franchise quarterback of the future. He'll start soon enough.

Redskins | Colt McCoy saw specialist about injury    Sun Aug 18, 01:33 PM

Washington Redskins QB Colt McCoy (leg) said Sunday, Aug. 18, that he has visited a foot specialist to have his injured right leg examined as he's had trouble getting a full push off the leg when passing.

Footballguys view: McCoy is the No. 3 quarterback for Washington and has no shot of moving up the depth chart before the start of the regular season. McCoy said there has been no setback, but there's still no timetable when he'll be 100 percent.

Redskins | Colt McCoy to miss preseason game    Wed Aug 14, 05:53 PM

Washington Redskins QB Colt McCoy (leg) will not play in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 15.

Redskins | Case Keenum on path to starting job    Tue Aug 13, 07:58 PM

Washington Redskins QB Case Keenum is on a path to being named the Week 1 starter under center, according to Rick Snider of The Washington Post, Tuesday, Aug. 13. Colt McCoy (undisclosed) sat out Tuesday's practice due to what head coach Jay Gruden called soreness. Rookie Dwayne Haskins has still looked 'like the rookie he is,' according to Snider.

Footballguys view: Keenum can be the starter at the beginning of the regular season, but we don't think he lasts in that spot for very long. Haskins is the QB of the future and head coach Jay Gruden needs to win...or at least show that he can win/develop with Haskins...if he wants to keep his job.

Redskins | Colt McCoy atop 1st depth chart    Sun Aug 4, 06:16 PM

Washington Redskins QB Colt McCoy is listed as the starter under center on the team's first depth chart. Case Keenum is slotted in as the backup and rookie Dwayne Haskins is the third-strong quarterback.

Footballguys view: This should come to down preseason performances, but unless Haskins is overwhelmed, the best plan is actually let him learn on the job and allow his line and receivers to get as much experience as possible with him. Splitting camp and preseason reps will only slow his development.

Redskins | Colt McCoy not counted out    Thu Jun 20, 09:03 AM

Washington Redskins QB Colt McCoy (leg) isn't being counted out of the battle for starting quarterback by the team. 'We would love for him to take some reps, but obviously his health is more important right now than anything, and that is the most important thing for him,' head coach Jay Gruden said about McCoy on the first day of minicamp. 'When his time comes it will come quickly. He will be ready.'

Footballguys view: He's not out but it's easy to see how McCoy is a long-shot for the starting job. Case Keenum is the seasoned veteran who could begin the season as the starter. Dwayne Haskins is the 2019 first-round pick and seen as the quarterback of the future. McCoy is mainly an afterthought right now.

Redskins | Colt McCoy working on the side    Sun Jun 9, 08:51 PM

Washington Redskins QB Colt McCoy (leg) was able to work on the rehab field during OTAs.

Footballguys view: McCoy has undergone three operations to fix his broken leg. He is expected to be back for training camp, but McCoy is going to be pressed to make the team. Washington added Case Keenum, the Broncos starter last year, to perhaps lead the team until 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins is ready to take over.

Redskins | Colt McCoy should be ready for camp    Tue May 14, 09:09 PM

Washington Redskins QB Colt McCoy (leg) is reportedly doing well in his recovery from the fractured fibula and is expected to be 'fully ready' by training camp, according to a source.

Footballguys view: McCoy is third in the pecking order behind Case Keenum and rookie first-round pick Dwayne Haskins. if Haskins wins the starting job, Keenum should be the backup meaning McCoy is no lock for the final roster.

Redskins | Colt McCoy may be ready for camp    Mon May 6, 06:41 PM

Washington Redskins QB Colt McCoy (leg) hopefully will be ready for training camp, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

Footballguys view: Washington has changed their QB depth chart drastically this offseason, trading the Broncos for Case Keenum and selecting Dwayne Haskins in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft. There's no need to rush McCoy back into action. He's got plenty of experience but probably not going to win the starting job in 2019.

Redskins | Colt McCoy had third leg surgery    Tue Apr 23, 11:41 AM

Washington Redskins QB Colt McCoy (leg) underwent a third procedure on his leg, but he could be ready for workouts next week. 'What happened was when he had the injury we were aggressive trying to get him back on the field so fast we didn't give it time enough to heal the right way so they went back in and did a small procedure to make sure that thing is on track to be full strength by the season,' head coach Jay Gruden said at the NFL League Meetings in Arizona last month. McCoy had a third, minor, surgery afterwards.

Footballguys view: McCoy was rushed back in anticipation of a possible playoff berth, which seems unwise if the team was being honest with themselves about where they stood after losing him. He joins Derrius Guice and Alex Smith on the list of Washington players who have had to have multiple procedures to resolve serious leg injuries.

'Always looking for competition for sure,' Gruden said Thursday, Feb. 28.   Redskins | Teammate doubts Alex Smith will play    Tue Feb 12, 03:14 PM

Washington Redskins QB Alex Smith (leg) is not expected to play this season, in the opinion of RB Chris Thompson. 'We know and understand that it's probably not going to happen that we have him this year,' Thompson admitted. The Redskins have discussed a new deal with QB Josh Johnson, but QB Colt McCoy is slated to start the year if Smith can't go.

Footballguys view: Smith's football future is certainly up in the air. Not only will he potentially miss the 2019 season, there is a chance that Smith may never be able to play football again. We hope that is not the case and will continue to monitor his recovery closely. Smith is in the midst of a an extensive recovery from a severe compound leg fracture late in the season.
