Cincinnati Bengals LB Aaron Maybin has been told by the coaching staff that he will line up at SAM linebacker, and he will be brought down to rush off the edge in passing situations. It's a position he has not played with regularity in past stops with the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets, but one his feels will show his versatility. 'The only way you can ever make yourself better and continue to improve is that you try to improve the total package and not one piece of the game,' Maybin said.

New York Jets LB Aaron Maybin was used as a pass-rushing specialist last season, but believes he's ready to operate as a three-down linebacker in 2012. A lighter frame kept him off the field in situations in 2011, but he's used this offseason to pack on pounds, and hopes to play at close to 250 this upcoming season. Maybin said he is eating between 5,000 and 6,000 calories a day to bulk up.

Updating a previous report, New York Jets restricted free-agent LB Aaron Maybin will receive an original round tender because he was drafted in the first round. It was originally though he would receive a first round tender but the team would receive the same compensation under the original round tender. Maybin would receive $1.3 million under the original round tender as opposed to the $2.7 million under the first round tender.

The Jets believe Maybin's speed could be an asset against the Baltimore Ravens, specifically OT Bryant McKinnie. McKinnie outweighs Maybin by 120 pounds, conservatively, but Maybin's quick burst of the ball could help. If the coaches like what they see in practice, they will put Maybin in some of their sub packages with the hope he can inject some life into the pass rush.
