Mattison has been highly unimpressive this season, and Akers should be the lead back as soon as he gets up to speed in the offense - which shouldn't be difficult because Kevin O'Connell's system is a Shanahan offense just like Sean McVay runs with the Rams. |

Mattison also lost a fumble -- he would have lost a second one, but it was negated when the Eagles lined up in the neutral zone.
| Footballguys view: Mattison has been one of the least efficient starting running backs in the league, so it's possible that his job is in danger, although it isn't like Ty Chandler is doing anything to bust down the door to the lead role. This backfield could use a veteran upgrade, but it's not clear that another running back would create a lot more production even though Mattison looks sluggish and not deserving of the job. |
