NFL | Tre Mason hoping to return to NFL    Tue Mar 6, 12:16 PM

Free-agent RB Tre Mason (Rams) is seeking an opportunity to end a two-year hiatus from the NFL and make a comeback, according to sources.

Footballguys view: He's just 24 and has some upside, so he'll likely get a shot in camp, though he has a lot to prove.

Updating previous reports, Los Angeles Rams RB Tre Mason hasn't spoken with head coach Jeff Fisher since the end of last season, according to Fisher. 'I tried numerous times to reach him,' Fisher said. 'Tre has made a decision not to communicate with us, not to talk. Not talking to his teammates. Right now we're more concerned about Mason's well-being than we are his football career.'

Rams | Tre Mason misses team meeting    Fri Jul 29, 02:27 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Tre Mason is believed to have missed the mandatory team meeting Friday, July 29, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Mason appears to be in the throes of a mental health problem of a similar severity to the ones that torpedoed the careers of Joseph Randle and Titus Young. We hope he finds the help he needs. In the meantime, 2015 preseason star Malcolm Brown could have the inside track to be the between the tackles backup to Todd Gurley.

Rams | Tre Mason's family worried    Tue Jul 26, 10:01 AM

Los Angeles Rams RB Tre Mason's family is worried about his mental state after the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Dept. was called to his house five times since March 28. During one of those visits, Mason agreed to check into a facility but failed to do so. The last incident was Saturday, July 23, but Mason was not arrested. Mason has not been accused of hurting anyone during the incidents. However, on one occasion, a family member told cops she didn't want Mason to leave the house because he hadn't slept in days, and she was worried 'he will get hurt.'

Rams | Arrest warrant for Tre Mason    Wed Apr 13, 11:42 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Tre Mason failed to appear in court in Broward County, Fla., Monday, April 11, and an arrest warrant has been issued.

Rams | Tre Mason arrested    Sun Mar 6, 07:09 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Tre Mason was arrested in Florida Saturday, March 5, on suspicion of possession of marijuana, reckless driving, failure to register a motor vehicle and resisting arrest, according to a Broward County Clerk of Courts police report.

Footballguys view: Bad news for the backup here. He was sparingly used as a reserve player behind Todd Gurley in 2015, but Mason proved in 2014 that he could do more if called upon. This arrest could lead to discipline from the league, and the Rams may be prompted to find a different reserve plan at running back.

Rams | Tre Mason limited Thursday    Thu Nov 5, 05:02 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) was limited in practice again Thursday, Nov. 5.

Footballguys view: This is Todd Gurley's show, and Mason is really only notable for his value if Gurley gets hurt. You can't start Mason, but you can give Gurley a whirl as an RB1.

Rams | Tre Mason a limited participant    Wed Nov 4, 06:54 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Footballguys view: This is Todd Gurley's world, Mason's just a squirrel looking for a nut (or a few carries). Mason is not worth having in your lineup, not with Gurley a lock for RB1 numbers every week.

Footballguys view: This is the Todd Gurley Show starring Todd Gurley, his band leader Nick Foles and the fantastic Rams Dancing Defenders. Mason is a non-factor--he's not even Ed McMahon, so don't worry about it. Gurley, however, is an RB1 without a doubt this week against San Francisco.

Rams | St. Louis not running ball well     Tue Sep 29, 08:11 PM

St. Louis Rams RBs Todd Gurley, Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham have attributed to the Rams' league-worst 111 rushing yards in 2015.

Footballguys view: The Rams need to get this figured out. When Gurley is at full strength, we feel he has superstar upside. However, he's not even a year removed from the knee injury that knocked him out of action at Georgia last year. Gurley played against the Steelers in Week 3, but he finished the game with a mere six carries for nine yards. We'll see if he can continue to get healthier and start to produce at a high level.

Rams | Tre Mason expected to play    Sun Sep 20, 10:02 AM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) is expected to play in the Week 2 game against the Washington Redskins even though he was listed as questionable for the game.

Rams | Tre Mason not a lock for success    Sat Sep 19, 10:43 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason faces the Washington Redskins in Week 2, and he averaged just 3.3 yards per carry against the Redskins last year.

Footballguys view: Washington's rush defense isn't bad, and Mason could be limited on Sunday. Last week, Washington held Dolphins RB Lamar Miller to only 53 yards on 13 carries. We're not counting on Mason to do much in Week 2.

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 18, and is listed as questionable for Week 2 against the Washington Redskins.

Rams | Tre Mason full practice again    Thu Sep 17, 03:16 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) put in a full practice for the second straight day Thursday, Sept. 17.

Footballguys view: The sound of clicking you hear is Daily Fantasy players dumping Benny Cunningham off their rosters as Mason may not be at 100 percent but he will probably ruin what could have been a big day for Cunningham against a weak Oakland run defense. Mason could be a decent RB3 play with Cunningham bounced down to an RB4.

Rams | Tre Mason expects to play in Week 2    Wed Sep 16, 10:18 PM

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) was able to practice in full Wednesday, Sept. 16, and he said after that he expects make his regular season debut in Week 2 against the Washington Redskins.

Footballguys view: This could throw off a lot of daily fantasy folks who are leaning on Benny Cunningham, but we'll keep watching to see if this happens. Right now we have Mason as an RB3 against a soft Washington defense, with Cunningham right next to him. This is one to watch very closely.

Rams | Tre Mason part of Rams inactives    Sun Sep 13, 11:34 AM

The St. Louis Rams have declared OT Andrew Donnal, WR Brian Quick, LB Daren Bates, OT Darrell Williams, QB Sean Mannion, RB Todd Gurley, RB Tre Mason inactive for Week 1.

Footballguys view: Quick is a surprise inactive here coming back from a serious shoulder injury. You don't want a Rams receiver in your lineup, but if you need to throw a hailmary, Kenny Britt is your guy. Chris Givens seemed to be prominent in Nick Foles' eyes in the preseason, so he could be a sneaky GPP play if you're going hypercontrarian.

Rams | Tre Mason does not appear ready    Sun Sep 13, 10:34 AM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason's (thigh) playing status for the Week 1 game against the Seattle Seahawks does not appear to be optimistic at this point. RB Bennie Cunningham likely would start at running back if Mason is not able to play.

Footballguys view: Cunningham is still only a low RB2/Flex play because of the state of the Rams offensive line. He's a safer play in PPR leagues. Isaiah Pead will also get a lot of work in a potential redemption story, but they are only temporary options until Tre Mason and Todd Gurley are ready to play.

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) missed practice for the third straight day Friday, Sept. 11, and is questionable for Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Footballguys view: It looks like Benny Cunningham will get a lot of work against the tough Seahawks defense. The team could also use Isaiah Pead or call up Malcolm Brown from the practice squad.

Rams | Tre Mason sits out again    Thu Sep 10, 07:25 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) missed practice again Thursday, Sept. 10. The Rams conducted a walkthrough Thursday, however, so the practice report is an estimation.

Footballguys view: Looks like it's Benny Cunningham time, as well as time for fans to take some antacid because Cunningham versus the Seattle front seven is going to give them upset stomachs. If you must, he's no more than an RB4. But don't do that to yourself.

Rams | Tre Mason doesn't practice    Tue Sep 8, 06:37 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Footballguys view: Just avoid this situation. We know Todd Gurley is not going to play in Week 1, and this hamstring injury could severely limit Mason--if he even plays against the Seahawks. Benny Cunningham could be the team's lead back in Week 1....and that's not great for fantasy owners.

Rams | Tre Mason likely to be GTD in Week 1    Mon Sep 7, 09:24 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) is likely to be a game-time decision for the Week 1 game against the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Jeff Fisher said on his weekly radio show Monday, Sept. 7.

Footballguys view: This is a situation to avoid. Mason may get limited action, but the team could turn to Benny Cunningham as their primary back. They play against the Seahawks, and it's an incredibly tough way to begin the regular season.

Rams | Tre Mason questionable for Week 1    Sat Sep 5, 07:13 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) is questionable for Week 1. 'Tre's doing good,' head coach Jeff Fisher said. 'He had two treatment sessions today, and he's doing well. So we'll see how he is during the week.'

Footballguys view: RB Benny Cunningham is expected to have a larger role whether Mason plays or not. It looks like the Seahawks make a great DFS play in Week 1 against a banged up Rams offense.

Rams | Tre Mason not practicing    Tue Sep 1, 03:29 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) is not practicing Tuesday, Sept. 1, with a strained hamstring.

Footballguys view: Todd Gurley is lurking and that has hampered Mason's value, limiting him to an RB5/RB6. Gurley is a solid RB3 (with RB1 uspide) when he is at full strength.

Rams | Tre Mason suffers injury    Sun Aug 30, 10:59 AM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) suffered a mild hamstring strain during the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29. He is not expected to play in the final preseason game.

Footballguys view: Matt Waldman favorite Malcolm Brown could make the team and even see significant action Week 1 against Seattle if Mason doesn't heal quickly or suffers a setback. This is Mason's second hamstring issue so far this year, so "mild" might be a relative term. Deep dynasty leaguers should take notice.

Rams | Tre Mason's stock rising?    Tue Aug 11, 07:52 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason seems more and more likely to open the 2015 season as the unrivalled starter in the backfield for the regular-season opener Sunday, Sept. 13, against the Seattle Seahawks. RB Todd Gurley (knee) said Tuesday, Aug. 11, he doesn't know if he'll be cleared in time.

Footballguys view: No big surprise here. Mason is talented, but the clock is ticking on his time in the starting lineup. While Mason is good, Gurley has the upside to be the best back in the game--when healthy. Gurley is coming back from the knee injury that cut his final season short last year at Georgia. The team wisely is bringing him along slowly as he returns. He may begin the season as a backup, but Gurley could end up being a stud for fantasy owners at the end of the season (fantasy playoffs).

Rams | Todd Gurley to be part of committee?    Sat Aug 8, 09:18 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley and RB Tre Mason will be part of a rotation this season, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. 'Our intention is to have a rotation,' Fisher said. 'Even if Todd is 100%, I still want to have the rotation with Tre, because Tre is special. I think that one-two combination is going to be great.'

Footballguys view: Gurley has the natural ability to be one of the league's best running backs...if healthy. The team should wisely bring him along slowly as he's not even a year from the knee injury that knocked him out of his final season in college at Georgia. With Tre Mason on the roster, the Rams could ease Gurley into action by using a RBBC. One day, Gurley could take over as the primary ball-carrier and be an impact player.

Rams | Todd Gurley unlikely for preseason    Fri Aug 7, 02:00 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) is coming along slowly from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, and head coach Jeff Fisher said it's unlikely that Gurley plays in the preseason. Fisher said Gurley already has a grasp of the offense and has praised him for his talent. Fisher expects Gurley and RB Tre Mason to rotate in the regular season.

Footballguys view: This isn't going to make you more likely to draft him. In dynasty, Gurley is still ticketed for big big things. His talent could be overwhelming once he is unleashed and change the Rams plans, but in redraft it looks like Gurley's impact will be delayed and his full arrival date is unknown. He's a boom/bust RB2 pick in the 4th or 5th.

Rams | Tre Mason held out    Fri Aug 7, 09:20 AM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) was held out of practice with a tight hamstring Thursday, Aug. 6.

Rams | Tre Mason to have first shot at starting?    Thu Jul 23, 06:49 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason will get first crack at the starting running back position until rookie RB Todd Gurley (knee) is healthy enough to start.

Footballguys view: Of course Mason is going to get the first shot to start...especially after what he did last year as a rookie. Mason is a talented runner who can get skinny between the tackles, plus he's got good burst in the open field. He is not as powerful or fast as Gurley (when healthy), but Mason is a quality starter. The second-year back is a RB3 with RB2 upside while Gurley is eased into action.
