Raiders | Doug Martin becomes a free agent    Thu Sep 5, 02:23 AM

Oakland Raiders RB Doug Martin (shoulder) was released from the Reserve/Injured list on Tuesday, Sept. 3, after reaching an injury settlement with the club. DE Alex Barrett (undisclosed) was also let go from IR with a settlement.

Footballguys view: Martin should get another shot somewhere in the league once injuries hit at the position. In 2018, Martin had 839 yards from scrimmage (723 rushing, 116 receiving) with four touchdowns as a fill in once Marshawn Lynch went down. He'll land on his feet somewhere, but who knows when or where that will be.

Raiders | Doug Martin off to fast start    Fri Aug 2, 09:08 PM

Oakland Raiders RB Doug Martin is off to a strong start in training camp, according to Vic Tafur of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Martin is likely to be a backup to rookie first-round pick Josh Jacobs. If Jacobs were to miss time, then Martin could take over and be a solid starter. Martin would have RB2 value for Fantasy GMs if he had a starter's workload.

Raiders | Josh Jacobs poised for big year?    Fri Jun 28, 02:45 AM

Oakland Raiders RB Josh Jacobs is expected to be the team's primary back this season and see most of the opportunities on first and second down, in the opinion of NBC Sports Bay Area's Scott Bair, who writes that RB Doug Martin will be primarily used as injury protection rather than to spell Jacobs during games. RB Jalen Richard is expected to see opportunities on third down.

Footballguys view: Jacobs has a lot of tread left on the tires and was one of the best passing down backs in the draft. Jon Gruden ran Cadillac Williams into the ground in his rookie year, so Jacobs could have high volume right off of the bat. He's an upside RB2 pick in a crowded 3rd-4th round tier.

Raiders | Doug Martin returning to Oakland    Wed May 1, 03:08 PM

Free-agent RB Doug Martin (Raiders) agreed to terms with the Oakland Raiders Wednesday, May 1, according to sources. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Raiders had to make a move with Isaiah Crowell lost for the season. Martin was with the team last year and is not quite the same player he used to be but he did have 723 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns in 2018. Rookie first-round pick Josh Jacobs should be the lead back for the Raiders with guys like Martin, Jalen Richard, DeAndre Washington and Chris Warren III competing for backup touches and snaps.

Raiders | Doug Martin may not play    Wed Dec 5, 02:45 PM

Oakland Raiders RB Doug Martin's (knee) Week 14 status is up in the air as he deals with a knee issue, according to head coach Jon Gruden.

Footballguys view: That's one of the reasons why the Raiders signed free agent running back C.J. Anderson on Monday. If Martin can't play, the Raiders should use a RBBC featuring Anderson, Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington.

Raiders | Doug Martin finds end zone    Sun Nov 25, 04:25 PM

Oakland Raiders RB Doug Martin rushed for 51 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 12. He also caught three passes for 21 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: Martin showed he has some potential as a desperation play in this one, as DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard faded into the background after more volume in Week 11. Martin is running well despite being stuck on the worst team in the league. He could be a garbage time special against the Chiefs next week.

CB Gareon Conley (groin), C Rodney Hudson (ankle), RB Doug Martin (ankle), OT Kolton Miller (knee), OT Kelechi Osemele (knee), DT Frostee Rucker (neck) and CB Daryl Worley (shoulder) were limited in practice Friday but no longer appear on injury report. WR Dwayne Harris (foot), OG Gabe Jackson (pectoral) and S Karl Joseph (ribs) fully participated in practice Friday and have also been removed from the injury report.

Raiders | Jon Gruden high on Doug Martin    Wed Oct 24, 06:38 PM

Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden spoke highly of RB Doug Martin on Wednesday, Oct. 24, referring to him as a 'feature back' who has 'had 1,300 yards in this league twice.' Gruden added: 'He's practiced hard. He's ready to go.'

Footballguys view: Martin takes over for the Raiders with Marshawn Lynch on IR due to a groin injury. Gruden loves his veterans and Martin should get a healthy workload as the primary runner for the Raiders. We should also see Jalen Richard get more work as the team's change-of-pace back.

Raiders | Doug Martin will be the lead back    Fri Oct 19, 05:52 PM

Oakland Raiders RB Doug Martin is expected to handle the bulk of the carries with RB Marshawn Lynch (groin) sidelined for at least a month. Head coach Jon Gruden is reportedly high on Martin, and believes he is ready for increased involvement.

Footballguys view: Martin still has a limited upside because of the Raiders inability to stay in games as of late. He certainly won't have more success than Marshawn Lynch and is probably just depth and not someone who will greatly improve your fantasy team's backfield.

Raiders | Doug Martin listed as No. 2 RB    Tue Aug 7, 02:58 AM

Oakland Raiders RB Doug Martin is listed as the team's No. 2 running back on the first depth chart released for the season.

Footballguys view: Martin should be prominent than Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington (whichever one makes the team), but the bigger question is how much he cuts into Marshawn Lynch's workload. Martin won't have much standalone value unless Lynch goes down unless the Raiders make this a 50/50 committee.

Raiders | Doug Martin making an impression     Tue Jul 24, 12:45 PM

Oakland Raiders RB Doug Martin reportedly 'jumped out' during offseason workouts with his quickness and ability to pick up the offense, according to offensive coordinator Greg Olson.

Footballguys view: Raiders head coach Jon Gruden wants to throw things back to the 90s, but Martin only has to throw it back to 2015...the last time he was impressive as a runner. That year for the Bucs, Martin had over 1,400 yards rushing and was the no.3 fantasy back. This year, Martin is trying to relaunch his career with his new team. He'll serve as the backup to Marshawn Lynch in 2018, but if Martin is back to his old ways he might push this into more of a RBBC than some think.

Raiders | RB competition in Oakland?    Tue May 29, 03:26 PM

Oakland Raiders RB Doug Martin could challenge RB Marshawn Lynch for starting running back duties, in the opinion of The Athletic's Vic Tafur.

Footballguys view: Lynch is the lead back at this time, but this is a potential competition that fantasy owners need to monitor. Reports indicate Martin looks quick and has shown burst at organized team activities so far. Lynch has a current ADP of RB32 (7.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Raiders | Marshawn Lynch staying put    Thu Mar 15, 03:46 PM

Oakland Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch will not be released despite the addition of RB Doug Martin.

Footballguys view: Lynch was first rumored to be a release candidate after Jon Gruden was hired as head coach. Then reports said Gruden wanted to keep him, then the Raiders added Martin and now this. After a whirlwind of activity in free agency, it seems like Lynch won't be joining that part.

Raiders | Doug Martin agrees with Raiders    Thu Mar 15, 02:27 PM

Free-agent RB Doug Martin (Buccaneers) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Oakland Raiders Thursday, March 15, according to a source.

Footballguys view: An interesting move for the Raiders, especially if they don't move on from starter Marshawn Lynch. Martin has been incredibly inconsistent during his pro career and it will be interesting to see what he does with a fresh start. His arrival (and three-down skill set) potentially negatively impact the fantasy value of guys like DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard.

Raiders | Doug Martin meets with Oakland    Fri Mar 9, 03:01 PM

Free-agent RB Doug Martin (Buccaneers) recently had a face-to-face meeting with Oakland Raiders coach Jon Gruden, who was reportedly 'impressed with him as a person.' As such, the Raiders are expected to make a 'strong push' for him in free agency.

Footballguys view: If the Raiders add Martin they move on from Marshawn Lynch. He has only averaged 2.9 yards per carry each of the last two years, but Martin does have two 1,400 yards on his resume. He could benefit from a fresh start.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin cut    Tue Feb 20, 11:19 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin was released Tuesday, Feb. 20. The Bucs will save $6.75 million. Due to the structure of his contract, the team will absorb no dead money on their salary cap.

Footballguys view: Martin is not the same player he used to be as injuries have hampered his game over the last couple of years. Some team should be interested in signing him to a one-year, 'prove it' deal. The Buccaneers might lose Charles Sims in free agency, so expect them to be looking for help on the open market or in this deep 2018 draft class at the position.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin not returning?    Wed Jan 17, 02:21 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin has 'no chance' of being on Tampa Bay's roster next season, in the opinion of the Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud.

Footballguys view: Martin probably shouldn't have been on the roster this year. The team paid him over five million non-guaranteed dollars despite being unavailable for the first three games. Even with the endorsement of the team, he was the same unexciting back that he had been recently, and Martin was outperformed by Peyton Barber down the stretch. Martin will have to fight to be a backup next year.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin 'wasn't ever the same' in 2017    Tue Jan 16, 12:16 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin failed to rush for even 500 yards for the fourth time in five years. General manager Jason Licht attributed Martin's most recent disappointing season to his season-opening suspension and the idea he wasn't able to reach the form he showed in the preseason after returning from his three-game absence.

Footballguys view: Martin is set to count $6.75 million against the cap in 2018, but with zero remaining in dead money we won't see him back with the team. Entering free agency with so many question marks, we can't see a ton of teams lined up for the veteran back. The fact that it's a very strong draft class at running back this year doesn't bode well for Martin either.
