Redskins | Washington signs one, releases one    Mon Jul 31, 03:06 PM

Free-agent RB Kenny Hilliard (Texans) was signed by the Washington Redskins Monday, July 31. RB Keith Marshall (knee) was waived with an injury designation in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Marshall's knee problems de-railed his chance at doing anything in the pros. Hilliard is a natural runner with good instincts but is a longshot to make an impact after coming into the league as a seventh-round pick for the Texans in 2015.

Redskins | Keith Marshall out for the season    Sun Jul 30, 11:57 AM

Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall (patella) will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his right patella tendon in practice Saturday, July 29.

Footballguys view: Marshall was once considered close to Todd Gurley as a prospect at Georgia. This latest knee injury could spell the end of his career. He wasn't in Washington's plans at running back this year and would have been a bonus if he had made the roster and added speed to the running back corps.

Redskins | Keith Marshall carted off    Sat Jul 29, 11:29 PM

Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall (knee) was carted off the practice field with an apparent right knee injury Saturday, July 29.

Footballguys view: Marshall was a tremendous running back before knee injuries derailed his football career. With yet another knee injury, it looks like Marshall may never be able to get back to the level of play he used to maintain in college at Georgia.

Redskins | Two Redskins RBs may be on bubble    Wed Jul 5, 03:37 PM

Washington Redskins RBs Mack Brown and Keith Marshall may be on the roster bubble during training camp, in the opinion of CSN Mid-Atlantic's Rich Tandler. Brown could make the roster as the No. 4 running back if the Redskins decide to keep three tight ends.

Footballguys view: With rookie Samaje Perine along with Rob Kelley, Chris Thompson and even Matt Jones, there's very little room left for either Brown or Marshall. Even if one of them sneaks on the roster, he won't have fantasy value.

Redskins | Keith Marshall's spot in jeopardy    Fri Jun 9, 11:22 PM

Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall is facing an uphill climb to make the roster, according to Rich Tandler of CSNMidAtlantic.com.

Footballguys view: With the addition of Samaje Perine in the 2017 NFL draft, Washington is flush at the position. Rob Kelley should be the lead back, but Perine is going to push him for touches as a runner. Chris Thompson will work as the primary pass-catching back. That doesn't leave much for Marshall if he makes the 53-man roster. He's a lottery ticket addition in super deep dynasty leagues but that's it.

Redskins | Keith Marshall done for season    Tue Aug 30, 07:04 PM

Washington Redskins rookie RB Keith Marshall (elbow) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Footballguys view: A seventh-round pick out of Georgia this year, Marshall was an intriguing dynasty prospect. This elbow injury wasn't supposed to be that serious, but perhaps Washington just wanted to clear up a roster spot. Without Marshall in the backfield, UDFA Rob Kelley is going to be the primary backup behind Matt Jones. Washington could always bring in another RB if need be.

Redskins | Keith Marshall may go on IR    Mon Aug 29, 03:39 PM

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall (elbow) may be placed on the Reserve/Injured list, according to head coach Jay Gruden. Marshall will miss three weeks with a sprained elbow.

Footballguys view: Marshall suffered a major knee injury during his college career at Georgia and was never quite the same player he was when he came out of high school as one of the best backs in the country. The injury bug has followed him to the pros with this latest problem. With Marshall down, Washington will turn to Rob Kelley. There's a chance that Kelley could start Week 1 if Matt Jones (shoulder) isn't quite ready.

Redskins | Keith Marshall out three weeks    Mon Aug 29, 09:21 AM

Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall (elbow) will miss three weeks before being re-evaluated, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Bad news for the rookie RB here. Marshall was competing for a spot on the depth chart behind starter Matt Jones. With Jones (shoulder) missing most of the preseason, Marshall had an opportunity to showcase his talent. Now that he's suffered an injury, Rob Kelley may end up as the Week 1 starter if Jones is not ready.

Redskins | Keith Marshall undergoing MRI    Sat Aug 27, 09:57 AM

Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall (elbow) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on the sprained elbow he suffered during the preseason game against the Buffalo Bills Friday, Aug. 26.

Footballguys view: No word on the severity of this injury. Marshall is in the mix for a larger role during the rest of the preseason with Matt Jones (shoulder) sidelined until the regular season. Rob Kelley is competing with Marshall for pecking order on the depth chart behind Jones.

Redskins | Keith Marshall suffers injury    Fri Aug 26, 08:27 PM

Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall (elbow) suffered a sprained left elbow during the preseason game against the Buffalo Bills Friday, Aug. 26, and will not return. He went to the locker room and underwent X-rays after suffering the injury.

Footballguys view: Marshall was already falling behind UDFA Rob Kelley for the #3 job. Depending on the severity of the injury, he could go on IR so the team can sign a veteran running back to provide depth with Matt Jones healing from an AC sprain. He's off of our redraft radar.

Redskins | Matt Jones out for preseason    Mon Aug 22, 04:06 PM

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones (shoulder) will sit the rest of the preseason because of a sprained shoulder, according to head coach Jay Gruden. RBs Keith Marshall and Rob Kelley will both get first-team looks in place of Jones.

Footballguys view: Jones may be able to return for the regular-season opener, but shoulder injuries are tough for RBs to overcome. The second-year pro has fantasy potential based on volume alone, but that's just as a low-end RB2 in PPR leagues.

Redskins | Rob Kelley pushing Keith Marshall    Wed Aug 17, 10:40 PM

Washington Redskins RB Rob Kelley took more snaps with the second unit in practice Wednesday, Aug. 17, rotating with RB Keith Marshall. A week ago, there was a gap between the two entering the preseason game and there still might be. However, Kelley was not working with the second unit before the preseason opener.

Footballguys view: Marshall had best watch his back as Kelley is starting to cut into his reps. Marshall needs to improve his patience at the line and against the Falcons D-team, Kelley played well. They will both get a stout test from the Jets run defense this Friday, but it seems like the RB2 job in Washington is up for grabs.

Redskins | Keith Marshall struggles on ground    Thu Aug 11, 10:54 PM

Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall lost one yard on five carries and caught two passes for five yards in a 23-17 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in the preseason Thursday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: The seventh rounder struggled, perhaps cooling some of the buzz around him from camp where he was being touted as someone who could split time with Matt Jones. While Marshall is a speedy, powerful, and patient runner the game looked a bit too big for him tonight. Cool your jets on him until we see him again, but it's beginning to look like Jones will get the bulk of the carries in the backfield.

Redskins | Keith Marshall turning heads in camp    Tue Aug 9, 09:43 PM

Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall is firmly entrenched among the team's top three backs along with RBs Matt Jones and Chris Thompson, and there is a gap between that trio and the rest of the team's running backs, according to multiple sources. Marshall's speed has been the reason he has stood out, and he ran a 4.31 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. 'He has that ability, when he does put that foot in the ground, he explodes through the line of scrimmage,' offensive coordinator Sean McVay said.

Footballguys view: Marshall was one of the best high school RBs in the country when he went to Georgia. A major knee injury knocked him out for more than a full season for the Bulldogs, but if healthy those natural skills are still there. Marshall is a favorite dynasty RB of ours...and we'd even recommend taking him as a late "lottery ticket" pick in deeper re-draft leagues.

Redskins | Keith Marshall no threat to Matt Jones    Mon Jul 25, 05:45 PM

Washington Redskins rookie RB Keith Marshall is unlikely to be a threat to RB Matt Jones' workload, according to ESPN.com's John Keim.

Footballguys view: We like Marshall in dynasty leagues, but we also realize that he needs to stay healthy and prove that he can play special teams in order to make the 53-man roster this year. Marshall was a great high school back, but a devastating knee injury in college at Georgia knocked his career off track.

Redskins | Keith Marshall could be on block    Wed Jul 13, 05:16 PM

Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall appears to have a good chance to make the 53-man roster at this point but could be on the roster bubble if the team adds a veteran running back during training camp, in the opinion of CSNMidAtlantic.com's Rich Tandler.

Footballguys view: Marshall was one of the best high school RBs in the country when he committed to play for the Georgia Bulldogs. A serious knee injury shortened his college career, but that natural rushing talent is still there. If Washington does add a veteran back to the mix, Marshall may be more likely to land on the practice squad.

Redskins | Two Redskins rookies may not make team    Mon Jun 27, 02:09 PM

Washington Redskins rookie RB Keith Marshall and rookie QB Nate Sudfeld were left off the 53-man roster projection by Mike Jones of The Washington Post.

Footballguys view: We'll be watching both rookies closely. Marshall has the ability to be a quality starter if he can only stay healthy. A former star for the Georgia Bulldogs, Marshall suffered a knee injury that set him back for a couple of seasons. He's fast, agile and able to make defenders miss with ease. Sudfeld is a tall pocket passer with a strong arm. If these two rookies don't make the 53-man roster, we think both could stick as practice squad players i 2016.

Redskins | Keith Marshall battling hammy issue    Thu Jun 16, 01:35 AM

Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall (hamstring) missed practice Wednesday, June 15, as he is battling a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: A seventh round pick in 2015, Marshall sat on the practice squad last season. He is going to be in danger of getting cut if this hamstring lingers into training camp. A guy on the fringe, Marshall had numerous injuries at Georgia and will have to shake that concern if he is to win a backup job to Matt Jones.

Redskins | Five Redskins rookies sign    Mon May 9, 10:33 AM

Washington Redskins QB Nate Sudfeld, RB Keith Marshall, S Su'a Cravens, DT Matt Ioannidis and LB Steven Daniels signed their rookie deals Monday, May 9.

Footballguys view: We love Marshall's upside and ability. If healthy, he's easily got the ability to be a quality starter. Marshall is fast, instinctive and able to pick up yards after contact. A major knee injury caused him to miss about a year and a half in college, and that's why his draft stock was so low. Sudfeld is a big, tall pocket passer with a rocket arm.

Redskins | Chris Thompson on shaky ground?    Thu May 5, 12:57 PM

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson's spot as the backup running back to RB Matt Jones could be in jeopardy after Washington drafted speedy RB Keith Marshall in the seventh round. The Redskins could also re-sign RB Pierre Thomas, which could pose an even bigger threat to Thompson.

Footballguys view: Thompson has struggled with injuries during his brief pro career. At best, he's a speedy change-of-pace back. The rookie Marshall has the upside to be a full-time starter for the team if he gets a chance. That's a huge difference in potential between the two.

NFL | Keith Marshall fast and strong    Fri Feb 26, 04:33 PM

Updating a previous item, Georgia RB Keith Marshall not only posted a 4.31-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine Friday, Feb. 26, but he put up 25 repetitions on the bench press Thursday, Feb. 25. He ran for only 1,379 yards and 12 touchdowns in three seasons at Georgia, but he also suffered multiple knee injuries.

Footballguys view: Marshall is an interesting late-round back, and some think he could fall undrafted. He entered Georgia as a five-star recruit, but a knee injury his sophomore year essentially knocked him out for two seasons. If healthy, Marshall is clearly an explosive playmaker who could produce at the pro level.

NFL | Keith Marshall opens eyes    Fri Feb 26, 01:52 PM

Georgia RB Keith Marshall posted an unofficial 4.29-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine Friday, Feb. 26.

Footballguys view: Marshall was supposed to be the next great Bulldogs RB when he came out of high school as one of the nation's best backs. A knee injury his sophomore year essentially knocked him out for two years. He was a reserve player last year for Georgia, and if healthy Marshall showed he could be a playmaker at the pro level. He could be an interesting late-round pick or undrafted free agent to consider.
