Colts | Manning throws four TD passes Week 10    Mon Nov 16, 12:55 AM

The Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning was 28-for-44 for 327 yards with four touchdown passes and two interceptions Week 10 against the New England Patriots.

Our view: You can't keep Peyton Manning down! Trailing 31-14 in the fourth quarter, Manning led his team to a comeback for the ages. When Patriots coach Bill Belichick decided to go for it on fourth down inside his own 30 yard line, it only gave Manning a short field to win the game. The Patriots/Colts rivalry is easily one of the best in the game today.

Colts | Manning throws for 318 yards Week 9    Sun Nov 8, 06:07 PM

The Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning was 34-for-50 for 318 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception Week 9 against the Houston Texans. He opened the game with 25 passes in the first quarter, the most by any quarterback in the first quarter since 1991. Manning became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for 40,000 yards within a decade. The team's win was also his 125th career victory, tying him for fourth with former NFL QB Fran Tarkenton on the career list.

Our view: Manning actually had more than half of his production in the first quarter, but a few of the Colts drives stalled out in field goals, and the Texans defense did a much better job of defending Manning and co. in the second half.

Colts | Manning throws for 347 yards Week 8    Sun Nov 1, 05:27 PM

The Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning was 31-for-48 for 347 yards during the team's Week 8 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Our view: Manning was held without a touchdown pass as the Niners' defense was strong in the red zone. He found Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark and his slot receivers often in the San Francisco zone defense all day long.

Colts | Not worried about Manning's knee    Mon Oct 12, 03:10 PM

The Associated Press reports the Indianapolis Colts are not worried about QB Peyton Manning's (knee) sore knee, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

Our view: The Colts have a bye week in Week 6 and do not play again until Oct. 25, when they travel to play the St. Louis Rams. This will give Manning's knee plenty of time to heal, and this injury/soreness is not considered to be serious.

Colts | Manning dinged in Week 5    Mon Oct 12, 08:34 AM

The Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning (knee) said following the team's Week 5 game that he would have to see a doctor for treatment of his left knee after receiving a hit from Tennessee Titans DL Kyle Vanden Bosch.

Our view: The injury is to the same knee that kept Manning out of the 2008 preseason and led to a slow start last year. We'll monitor the situation closely and keep you up to date here at Footballguys.com

Our view: Another day, another record setting performance for Peyton Manning.

Colts | Manning successful throwing to Clark    Sat Oct 10, 10:34 AM

Paul Kuharsky, of ESPN.com, reports when Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning has thrown to TE Dallas Clark this season, he has completed 26-of-33 passes for 364 yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions and a quarterback rating of 132.8.

Our view: With so many receiving options in the Colts offense it makes it confusing for defenses to cover. Barring injury Dallas Clark should finish the season as the number one tight end in fantasy football.

Colts | Manning close to milestone    Fri Oct 9, 11:57 AM

Mike Chappell, of The Indianapolis Star, reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning is one game away from becoming the third quarterback in NFL history to record at least 70 regular season games with a passer rating of at least 100.0.

Our view: Manning would join Brett Favre and Fran Tarkenton in this exclusive club with one more game above 100 passer rating.

Colts | Manning throws for 353 yards Week 4    Sun Oct 4, 05:34 PM

The Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning was 31-for-41 for 353 yards with two touchdown passes and an interception Week 4. Manning threw his first touchdown pass to WR Reggie Wayne, making Manning and former Miami Dolphins QB Dan Marino as the only quarterbacks to throw 55 touchdown passes to two different receivers. Manning's second touchdown pass tied him with former NFL QB Fran Tarkenton for third place on the NFL's career touchdown passing list. Both Manning and Tarkenton have 342 touchdown passes.

Our view: Manning is well on his way to being the #1 fantasy QB this year. Marvin who?

The Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning was 24-for-35 for 379 yards with four touchdown passes and an interception Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Our view: Peyton Manning was in command all night, and was able to be a fantasy superstar once again this week. He effectively used all of his weapons, and spread the ball around so that the Cardinals defense didn't know what to expect on any play.

The Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning recorded his 119th victory with the team in Week 2, breaking the team record for a quarterback he shared with former QB Johnny Unitas.

Our view: Peyton Manning and Johnny Unitas in the same sentence doesn't seem strange at all.

Manning's first pass of the game was an 80-yard touchdown pass to TE Dallas Clark, Manning's longest completion since 2005.

Our view: Manning and the Colts set a record for lowest time of possession in a winning effort, too.

Phil Richards, of the Indianapolis Star, reports Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said this week he expects to have a new contract in place for QB Peyton Manning before the start of the 2010 season. Manning's current deal runs through the end of next season.

Our view: With one more win Peyton Manning will pass the great Johnny Unitas on the team's all time win list. The Colts aren't going to let Manning get away, and he should finish his career in Indianapolis.

The Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning went 28-for-38 for 301 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the team's Week 1 game. Manning picked up his 118th career victory, which ties a franchise record.

Our view: This could have been a higher-scoring game for the Colts offense. Two turnovers deep in enemy territory ended drives that should have resulted in points.

Colts | LAM begins     Mon Sep 7, 01:36 AM

Mike Chappell, of The Indianapolis Star, reports the Indianapolis Colts are entering LAM - Life after Marvin (Harrison) - this year. It has been odd not to see No. 88 on the field for many of the team's long-time players. 'I'm going to miss him,' QB Peyton Manning said. Manning's first completion in '98 was in a preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. Manning took a three-step drop and quickly hit Harrison on a slant, which Harrison took 48-yards for a score. 'I remember thinking, 'Wow, throwing to Marvin Harrison sounds like a pretty good idea,'' Manning said.

Our view: Harrison didn't make the same kind of impact we've come to expect from him each of the last two seasons, so the offense could actually be more effective without Harrison.

The Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning was 10-for-14 for 167 yards with two touchdown passes in three series during the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 20.

Colts | Starters to see more time Thursday    Thu Aug 20, 12:48 AM

Mike Chappell, of The Indianapolis Star, reports the Indianapolis Colts' starters will see approximately 20 plays, or at least one quarter, in their preseason game Thursday, Aug. 20, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. The team's starting offense took part in six plays in their preseason opener Friday, Aug. 14. QB Peyton Manning said, "We kind of played a lot less than what we thought we were going to play. They told us 12 plays and we got six."

Our view: Manning and co. want more plays together because there are many players who haven't played together before.

Colts | Mortensen: Clark-Manning chemistry 'scary'    Sat Aug 8, 07:23 PM

Chris Mortensen, of ESPN, reports that the chemistry between Colts DE Dallas Clark and QB Peyton Manning is "downright scary".

Our view: Many have assumed that Anthony Gonzalez would pick up most of the slack left by the departure of Marvin Harrison, but Clark could become Manning's favorite target and easily surpass his outstanding 2008 numbers. He becomes a value pick around the mid to late sixth round in TE-required PPR leagues.

Colts | Manning feels throwing in pads helps his timing    Fri Aug 7, 09:06 PM

Matt Dollinger, of Colts.com, reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning said he likes working out with pads on at times during training camp.

Our view: He said working with pads allows him to work on his timing, too, as the timing changes when he has DEs Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis coming at him full speed from the outside. He believes working against those two pass rushers gives him a better sense of how quickly he needs to get rid of the football while in the pocket.

Colts | Manning has confidence in Caldwell    Sat Jul 11, 08:42 AM

The Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning said Friday, July 10, that he has confidence in new head coach Jim Caldwell's plan for the team moving forward. 'Even though Tony Dungy won't be on the sideline, I feel like the winning atmosphere and the environment he created in our building will carry through,' Manning said. 'Coach Caldwell assured me he's got a good plan. Hopefully August 2 we'll be able to hit the ground running.'

Our view: If anything, Manning should be a better fantasy QB without the conservative Dungy at the helm. This is definitely his team now.

Colts | Manning challenges young receivers to step up    Mon Jun 1, 10:05 AM

Mike Chappell, of the Indianapolis Star, reports Indianapolis Colts WR Peyton Manning said he has challenged some of the team's younger wide receivers to emerge as the No. 3 receiver this season.

Our view: 'Every one of those guys, I've told them, 'There's a receiver's spot open right now,' ' Manning said. The candidates, Manning said, 'need to be saying, 'Hey, that's my job to go win.' It doesn't matter how old you are, how many years you've been in the league. If you win the job, it's yours.' Pierre Garcon, Roy Hall, and rookie Austin Collie will all compete for the 3rd string WR position.

Colts | Manning wants to know on coaching changes    Tue May 26, 12:26 PM

The Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning said Tuesday, May 26, that he would like to know more on the team's recent coaching changes. Manning acknowledged that the team is moving forward without longtime offensive coordinator Tom Moore and offensive line coach Howard Mudd but added the Colts could have done a better job clarifying their situation.

Our view: Manning seems to be letting off just a little bit of steam here. We have no doubt that the Colts will accommodate their star QB.

Colts | Offensive coaching staff vacancies filled    Fri May 15, 02:16 PM

Mike Chappell, of the Indianapolis Star, reports that Colts team president Bill Polian said that WR coach/assistant head coach Clyde Christensen has taken over as the offensive coordinator and assistant OL coach Pete Metzelaars has been promoted to OL coach in an interview with 1070 The Fan this morning.

Our view: Continuity through promotion from within was the best approach to fill the holes left by the retirement of Tom Moore and Howard Mudd. Both Christensen and Metzelaars have been with the Colts for more than five years, so the effect of the changes to the coaching staff on the Colts offensive game plan should be minimized.
