Broncos | Drew Lock working with Peyton Manning    Mon Apr 12, 01:24 PM

Denver Broncos QB Drew Lock has been working with former NFL QB Peyton Manning this offseason, according to OG Dalton Risner. Lock and Manning have been watching film during the offseason.

Footballguys view: Lock needed to get better this offseason when it comes to understanding what he's seeing on the field. He's got the physical tools, but his propensity to throw interceptions needs to be cleaned up. It might be too late for him with the Broncos if they move up in the draft for a first-round quarterback.

Jets | NYJ targeting Peyton Manning?    Sat May 18, 11:03 AM

Former QB Peyton Manning is being rumored to be a target for the New York Jets' general manager vacancy. Manning played under head coach Adam Gase with the Denver Broncos and fits the mold the team is seeking. 'It's more than a talent-evaluation guy,' Jets CEO Christopher W. Johnson said. 'I want a great manager, a communicator, who can collaborate well with the building. I'm convinced we're going to find that person.'

Footballguys view: Manning is destined to run a team some day. First, perhaps as a general manager. Then, we could see him as a team owner one day. Manning is all about football and has a great relationship with Adam Gase. He's turned down other job offers, both in the media and NFL front offices, so we'll see if the Jets offer is more enticing to the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Colts | Peyton Manning not GM candidate for Colts    Sat Jan 21, 06:00 PM

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said former NFL QB Peyton Manning is not a candidate for the team's general manager position.

Footballguys view: Irsay has reportedly been pursuing Manning for an executive role. At this time, Manning is happy spending time with his young kids but we could see him back in football soon.

Colts | Peyton Manning offered job in Indy front office    Sun Jan 15, 11:47 AM

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has expressed interest in hiring former QB Peyton Manning to serve as the organization's head of football operations. Irsay was also interested in hiring Jon Gruden to be the head coach but Gruden declined the offer.

Footballguys view: Manning is likely to get into some sort of front office job, but the time has to be right. At this time, Manning is enjoying retirement and spending time with his family.

NFL | Peyton Manning has no plans to play    Tue Aug 30, 10:27 PM

Retired QB Peyton Manning (Broncos) has no plans to come out of retirement to play in the 2016 season, a source with knowledge of Manning's plans said Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Footballguys view: Manning is enjoying his family in retirement. No matter what he does -- and he'll be able to do anything he wants -- we expect him to be quite successful.

NFL | Peyton Manning cleared by NFL    Mon Jul 25, 11:26 AM

Former Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning was cleared Monday, July 25, following a seven-month investigation that found no credible evidence he used human growth hormone or violated the league's performance-enhancing drug policy, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Manning's legacy as one of the greatest QBs of all time is insured with this investigation wrapped up. We saw his game fall off over the last year and a half, but Manning was able to become the first QB to ever win a Super Bowl with more than one team (Colts, Broncos).

Broncos | Peyton Manning leaves mark on NFL    Sun Mar 6, 01:38 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning currently holds 11 all-time records for quarterbacks, including most career passing yards (71,940), most career passing touchdowns (539), most single-season passing yards (5,477), most single-season passing touchdowns (55) and most wins (200 total).

Footballguys view: Manning revolutionized the game. He entered the league as the number-one overall pick in 1998, and he helped transform the game into the pass-happy league it is today. His mark on the NFL will never be forgotten.

Broncos | Peyton Manning set to annouce retirement    Sun Mar 6, 09:41 AM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning will announce his retirement Monday, March 7, according to sources.

Footballguys view: It was exactly one month ago today the Broncos won Super Bowl 50. The team gave Manning plenty of time to decide on his future, and the future Hall of Famer has decided to go out on top. He will retire as the NFL's all-time leader in passing touchdowns (539), passing yards (71,940) and quarterback wins (186, tied with Brett Favre).

Texans | Could Peyton Manning join Texans?    Thu Mar 3, 08:00 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning could be signed by the Houston Texans as a bridge quarterback until the Texans are comfortable with their next future quarterback, according to Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports.

Footballguys view: Maybe this attractive as a very short term fix, but if you're a Texans fan you have to be tired of those, especially since they aren't working all that well. Sure, this could cover the position while a rookie is brought along, but given what we saw from Manning last year, is he really the solution here? It's hard to buy into.

Broncos | No decision on Peyton Manning    Thu Mar 3, 04:51 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning has not decided whether to retire yet, and the Broncos have not told him they'll cut him if he chooses not to retire. Denver will allow him to decide his future and take it from there.

Footballguys view: We're down to six days before someone has to flinch. At this point it's impossible to get the rumors under control, so we will just wait. We will say we think Manning is no more than a game manager these days and of little worth for fantasy owners - whether he is a Bronco or not.

Broncos | Peyton Manning undecided    Wed Mar 2, 12:51 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning remains undecided on whether he will retire this offseason. 'To tell you the truth, I know that Peyton has not decided,' Manning's agent, Tom Condon, said. The Broncos continue to say they'll give him all the time he needs to make a decision, but they will need to trade or release him if he doesn't let them know within the next six days. Condon thinks other teams will be interested in Manning if he wants to keep playing.

Footballguys view: The Broncos have to secretly be frustrated as they need to know which direction to go. That said, they need to lock Brock Osweiler down anyway - but how much they might be willing to pay will be impacted by whether Manning returns.

Broncos | Peyton Manning finding it hard to quit    Tue Mar 1, 01:35 PM

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning is finding his decision on whether to retire harder than expected. His agent, Tom Condon, said Manning told him that he still likes to play, and he still enjoys weekly preparation and practice before games. 'It's still there,' Manning said. 'To me, you can't play football, and you can't play quarterback in the NFL unless you love it. And if you love it, you have to love the preparation, you have to love the April and May workouts.'

Broncos | No Peyton Manning decision this week    Mon Feb 29, 07:30 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning is not expected to make a decision on his playing future this week, and the decision will go right up to March 9, according to sources. Manning's $19 million salary for next season would become guaranteed March 9 if he decides to continue playing.

Footballguys view: The Broncos may have to cut Manning in order to free up that cap space. They need the cap space so they can start working with Brock Osweiler on a new deal.

Broncos | Peyton Manning still pondering future?    Sat Feb 27, 09:24 PM

Contradicting a previous report, Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning has not made a decision on whether or not to retire, according to the team's vice president of public relations Patrick Smyth.

Footballguys view: The team is going to put this out there because it's not official. All signs are pointing to Manning hanging up his cleats sometime later this week.

Broncos | Peyton Manning to announce retirement?    Sat Feb 27, 08:47 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning is expected to announce his retirement by the end of next week, according to two sources.

Broncos | Peyton Manning could be released    Fri Feb 26, 07:16 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning is almost certainly to be released by the Broncos if he hasn't retired before free agency starts. Manning is due $19 million in the final year of his contract, but retirement seems more likely than not.

Footballguys view: This has always been the option for Denver, but we don't think anyone wants to see that. The team could fail his physical for any number of reasons before his contract goes live. If he wants to keep playing, it's unlikely to be in Denver. We think Manning announces his retirement next week. Stay tuned.

Broncos | Peyton Manning decision coming next week?    Fri Feb 26, 06:12 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning could make a decision on his playing future next week.

Footballguys view: Manning is expected to announce that he will retire, but he's having trouble making that final official step. Manning's $19 million salary in the final year of his contract becomes guaranteed on March 9. The Broncos should try to snare Brock Osweiler with a new contract before he hits the open market.

Broncos | Peyton Manning needs more time    Thu Feb 25, 05:36 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning needs more time to decide whether he wants to continue his playing career, and general manager John Elway said the Broncos will give Manning as much time as he needs. Elway said he'll meet with Manning again in seven to 10 days. 'We're really not in a hurry,' Elway said. 'It's really fluid. We know where Brock is and he knows what we have to offer.'

Footballguys view: How much time does he need? We think the Broncos are done with Manning...even if by some chance he still wants to play. We'll know in about a week what the team is going to do.

Broncos | Peyton Manning could decide in March    Wed Feb 24, 01:26 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning is likely to make a decision on retiring around the first week of March. Per his contract, Manning, 39, must take a physical by March 4. His $19 million contract becomes guaranteed on March 9, so a decision should occur before then. Manning is expected to get a medical checkup on the torn plantar fascia in his left foot and visit a personal trainer to assess his condition.

Footballguys view: Manning is likely going to retire, and why shouldn't he? He has enough money and can leave on a high note. The Broncos are going to need to sign Brock Osweiler or sign someone in free agency to start at quarterback next season.

Broncos | Denver a potential landing spot for RG3?    Wed Feb 17, 03:00 PM

The Denver Broncos will do their due diligence on the quarterback position. Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III, who will likely become available next month, is expected to be among several options the Broncos will consider as they prepare for life after QB Peyton Manning.

Footballguys view: Griffin's mobility could unlock a lot of the value of the zone blocking running game and rollout passing in the Kubiak offense. Just about every team should be looking at Griffin, as he could also be a very valuable backup, and he won't be expensive.

Broncos | Denver has plans for Osweiler to start    Sun Feb 14, 03:22 PM

There are plans for Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler to be the starting quarterback in 2016, and the Broncos do want to sign Osweiler to a multiyear contract extension. The sooner QB Peyton Manning notifies Denver of his decision to retire or not the sooner Denver can negotiate with Osweiler.

Footballguys view: There's no deadline for Manning to make a decision...but the sooner the better. We think Manning is done in Denver, and Osweiler has been groomed to be the heir apparent. We could see Osweiler snare a three-year deal that pays him around $10-12 million annually.

Broncos | No deadline for Peyton Manning    Wed Feb 10, 12:56 AM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning has 'no deadline' for making a retirement decision, general manager John Elway said Tuesday, Feb. 9.

Footballguys view: There's no deadline....except for March 9th, the start of the new league year. We feel Manning is done in Denver...where he retires or not. Manning would have to pass a physical about a week before the start of the new league year if he wants to return to Denver. With all his body has been through, there's no guarantee that would happen. It seems like the Broncos are ready to move on, likely with Brock Osweiler as their starter.

Broncos | Peyton Manning decision important    Tue Feb 9, 02:20 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning still has one year remaining on the contract he signed in 2012. His $19 million base salary becomes guaranteed on March 9, and the deal counts $21.5 million against Denver's salary cap. The Broncos' available cap space will be impacted greatly by his decision.

Footballguys view: Manning doesn't need to simply retire to get off the books for the Broncos. Per the structure of his contract, Manning will need to pass a complete physical about a week before that early-March deadline. If he fails the physical, then his contract is void. We feel that Manning is done in Denver...whether he retires or not is up in the air.

Broncos | Similarities between Elway, Manning    Mon Feb 8, 04:31 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning and general manager John Elway were both drafted first overall by the Baltimore Colts/Indianapolis Colts and they both won 14 playoff games and two Super Bowls.

Footballguys view: Elway didn't want to play for the Irsay family, so he forced a trade to the Broncos. Manning did play for the Colts, then some feel he was stabbed in the back and cut by Colts owner Jim Irsay after missing the 2011 season with a serious neck injury. Perhaps he should have followed Elway from the start. We have a feeling Manning will go into the Hall of Fame as a Colt--regardless of how things ended in Indy.

Broncos | Peyton Manning not rushing decision    Mon Feb 8, 12:48 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning will not rush to make a decision about retirement after winning Super Bowl 50 against the Carolina Panthers, but he said 'I'll be at peace, whichever way it goes.' Manning's mother, Olivia, said she would like Peyton to retire and go out on top.

Footballguys view: Manning doesn't need to rush his decision. We'd guess that he goes ahead and calls it a career. The storybook ending with a Super Bowl championship might be too much for him to pass up. However, he played hurt this year and may want to give it another go (unlikely to be in Denver) in 2016. Earlier reports have indicated the Rams would be interested in Manning if he wants to continue playing. Stay tuned, we may not have a decision for a couple of weeks.

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning completed 13 of 23 passes for 141 yards and an interception in a 24-10 win over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 Sunday, Feb. 7.

Footballguys view: The Broncos aren't built around Manning anymore. The defense is the heart of the team, and that side of the ball came through in a big way against the Panthers. Manning didn't have to do much as the defense carried him to victory. We expect him to retire and go out on top.

Broncos | Peyton Manning coming back?    Sat Feb 6, 09:26 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning's former coach and current Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator, Clyde Christensen, isn't 'buying' the idea that the Super Bowl will be Manning's last game. 'I know how much he loves doing what he does,' Christensen said. 'He sometimes forgets and still gives me projects and forgets that he has a coach there. I still get a glimpse of how much this guy enjoys football like he does, enjoys the quarterback position like he does and I wouldn't count on him bowing out too early.'

Footballguys view: We're going to politely disagree with Christensen here. Manning's body isn't the same as it used to be, and he's wearing down with age...just like all the greats do. If Manning doesn't feel like he can compete at a high level, then he'll likely hang up his cleats for good.

Broncos | Peyton Manning changing teams?    Fri Feb 5, 12:14 AM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning knows he likely won't be back with the Broncos if he decides to play in 2016, according to Archie Manning.

Footballguys view: Manning could land in Los Angeles with the Rams or perhaps the Browns if he does decide to play, but the poetic justice of ending his career with a Super Bowl start and the steep decline in his play this year likely means Sunday will be his last in the NFL as a player. The Broncos could still re-sign Brock Osweiler despite turning away from him in the playoffs.

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (foot) is looking as good as he has all season and threw several deep passes during practice Thursday, Feb. 4, according to head coach Gary Kubiak.

Footballguys view: After missing most of the second half of the season with this foot injury, Manning has looked a little better throwing the ball. He'll need to be near the top of his game playing against an opportunistic Panthers defense in Super Bowl 50.

Broncos | Arm not an issue for Peyton Manning     Thu Feb 4, 03:06 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning has drawn much criticism for his declining arm strength, but at least one teammate doesn't see it that way. WR Emmanuel Sanders believes most of Manning's issues have been a result of the foot injury that sidelined him for most of the second half of the season.

Footballguys view: He can still get Sanders the ball so we understand his support. Still it's clear Manning doesn't quite have the arm strength - or accuracy - of his youth. His foot injury is a factor as well. He'll need time to throw of course, so the offensive line needs to play an incredible game.

Broncos | Peyton Manning has struggled deep    Wed Feb 3, 02:01 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning ranked 33rd out of 35 quarterbacks this year with 27.5% accuracy on his passes that traveled 20 yards or more downfield, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: You don't need advanced stats to know that...just watch Manning this season. His arm strength isn't great (but it's not as bad as some think), but it's his long accuracy that really suffers. Against the Panthers in Super Bowl 50, Manning should keep many passes close to the line of scrimmage.

Broncos | Peyton Manning has time for decision    Wed Feb 3, 12:10 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning will be given plenty of time to make a decision on his future following Super Bowl 50, according to general manager John Elway. 'He's got plenty of time, whatever time he needs. I think it's never going to be a quick decision. You don't want it to be. It's one that's going to change his life ... and it's always a hard decision,' Elway said, 'so we'll give him plenty of time.'

Footballguys view: Plenty of time indeed, but Manning does have to pass a physical before the start of the new league year in early March. Manning's body is crumbling as we speak, so we'd be shocked to see him return for another year.

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (hip) said he's been told he'll need a hip replacement surgery 'down the road' and that he'll try to handle any potential issues with his neck and back in the future.

Footballguys view: Well, that's just something that happens with an older player. Hip surgery would be a major procedure and one that could keep him out of action for a while. With age and injuries piling up, we just don't see Manning playing after Super Bowl 50.

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning is receiving interest from the Los Angeles Rams if he decides to play in 2016. The Rams have had internal discussions about pursuing Manning if he opts to play next season, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Manning is going to have time to decide whether or not he wants to retire after Super Bowl 50. While his time in Denver may be done, we could see him choose to play elsewhere for one last season in 2016.

Broncos | Peyton Manning dinking and dunking    Tue Feb 2, 05:39 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning targeted 62% of his passes within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage during the regular season, and he connected on 69.9% of those throws with four touchdowns and nine interceptions. During the playoffs, 63% of his throws are of the short variety, with 35% of his throws between 10 and 19 yards, which was up from 24% during the regular season. Manning has thrown 20 of his 24 pass attempts at intermediate range to the right or middle of the field during the playoffs.

Footballguys view: Whatever works, right? Manning's passing chart shows a lot of throws close to the line of scrimmage. However, he's in the top 10 of air-yards-per-attempt average this season. Manning will get rid of the ball quickly against the Panthers, and it's up to the weapons like Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas to make something happen after the catch.

Broncos | Peyton Manning talks arm strength    Tue Feb 2, 12:26 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning conceded that his arm isn't as strong as it used to be entering Super Bowl 50 against the Carolina Panthers. 'My arm is what it is,' Manning said. 'Honestly, my having a little time off to heal my foot helped some of the other parts. ... My arm feels OK. My arm has not been the same since I was injured four years ago. ... If I could throw left-handed it would be a lot easier. ... It's just different than it was. ... It's got a few yards on it, miles on it, however you want to say it.'

Footballguys view: The arm strength talk is overblown. Manning has never had a rocket arm, and he certainly won't now. It's interesting to note that Manning ranks 9th this year in air-yards-per-attempt average (9.15 yards). However, he's among the lowest in the league on completion percentage of passes that travel over 20 yards. Manning has more arm strength than some think, but his accuracy is a bit shoddy when asked to throw long.

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning has thrown three of his four interceptions in Super Bowl play when targeting wide receivers as opposed to compiling almost as many yards per attempt when throwing at his tight ends and running backs in the big game.

Footballguys view: Throw out the history books. It's all-or-nothing for Manning in what could be the final game of his pro career.

Footballguys view: We wouldn't be surprised to see Manning hang up his cleats after Super Bowl 50. We'll see if Manning can go out the same way that Broncos GM John Elway did--as a champion. Manning may not announce a retirement after the game..win or lose. He's likely to take some time before making that decision public.

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning as thrown an interception on 5.1% of his pass attempts this season, which is a career high for him and the most among qualified quarterbacks.

Footballguys view: Manning has struggled with picks this season, but since coming back from his plantar fascia injury Manning has recorded zero interceptions in two games. He's only throwing with 55.1 percent accuracy in the postseason, but Manning has yet to throw it to the other team in the playoffs.
