Giants | Mario Manningham on bubble    Sat Aug 30, 08:44 AM

New York Giants WR Mario Manningham (calf) may not be with the team much longer because of the calf injury he suffered in preseason action Thursday, Aug. 28. His recovery from his previous knee injury took a long time, and he wasn't impressive in camp.

Giants | Receivers inconsistent    Tue Aug 19, 11:19 AM

New York Giants WRs Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle, Jerrel Jernigan and Mario Manningham have not made many big plays this preseason. Cruz initially caught a long play-action pass Saturday, Aug. 16, but dropped it. Randle has one catch for 12 yards in three games. Jernigan has not carried over his momentum from late last season, per head coach Tom Coughlin, and also dropped a throw from Eli Manning Saturday. Corey Washington has three touchdowns but received fewer first-string practice reps than Manningham in first-string practice reps Monday, Aug. 18.

Giants | Mario Manningham fighting for roster spot    Wed Aug 13, 06:17 PM

New York Giants WR Mario Manningham is fighting for a roster spot in training camp. Manningham has not looked healthy in practice, in the opinion of Dan Graziano of ESPN.com. Since Manningham signed, the team drafted WR Odell Beckham Jr. and has had good performances from WR Marcus Harris and WR Corey Washington in training camp.

Footballguys view: Manningham is a seasoned veteran, but he's no lock to make the final roster. He returns to the Giants after two disappointing seasons with the 49ers. Manningham enters his seventh season hoping to reclaim his once promising trajectory.

Giants | Mario Manningham still not confident in knee    Mon Jul 28, 10:35 PM

New York Giants WR Mario Manningham (knee) said he is still not 100 percent confident in his surgically repaired knee. 'I'm working on it,' he said of overcoming that psychological hurdle. 'Every day I feel better. (I'm) going out and just trying to get back to where I was.'

Footballguys view: Manningham will gain confidence in his knee as camp goes on. The veteran could be in for more playing time than some think. Rookie first-round pick Odell Beckham Jr. is currently out with a hamstring injury. There is opportunity there for a savvy veteran like Manningham.

Giants | Hope Mario Manningham will be ready for camp    Wed Jun 18, 01:04 PM

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said the team hopes WR Mario Manningham (knee) will be cleared to participate in practice once training camp begins.

Footballguys view: The Giants new offense will feature three wide receivers a lot of the time, so Manningham could get a lot of snaps if he can get back to full speed and one of the youngsters struggles or gets hurt.

Giants | Mario Manningham, William Beatty to miss offseason program    Thu May 29, 12:35 PM

Doctors have advised New York Giants WR Mario Manningham (knee) and OT William Beatty (leg) to skip the team's offseason program so that they will be ready to participate in training camp, according to head coach Tom Coughlin.

Footballguys view: Beatty is still healing from a broken leg, but Manningham is competing for a roster spot behind Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle and rookie Odell Beckham Jr. Ol'Dirty Beckham could leapfrog Randle, but however they shake out, both are going to be on the roster. The question is whether missing OTAs is going to hurt Manningham when competing with the other seven receivers on the roster.

Giants | GM talks WR roles    Fri May 9, 01:23 PM

Giants | Mario Manningham expected to be an important player    Wed Mar 26, 03:20 PM

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said he expects WR Mario Manningham to be an important player in 2014. 'I told him, 'If we're going to be the team we want to be, (you) have to come back and make a very strong contribution,'' Coughlin said. 'And he's excited about that chance.'

Footballguys view: Rueben Randle is far from assured the #2 job, and Jerrel Jernigan only has a very limited track record of success two years into his career. The Giants know what Manningham can do well, and he can settle back into his familiar #3 role (if not start) with a good camp.

Giants | Mario Manningham contract details    Wed Mar 19, 03:32 PM

Updating a previous report, the New York Giants signed WR Mario Manningham to a one-year deal worth $795,000.

Footballguys view: Manningham was once a coveted commodity on the free agent market and he was semi-productive for San Francisco before going down with an ACL injury in 2012, but he is just roster fodder playing for his career at this point.

Giants | Agree to terms with Mario Manningham    Tue Mar 18, 12:43 PM

The New York Giants agreed to terms with WR Mario Manningham (49ers) on a one-year deal Tuesday, March 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: As officer Barbrady says, "Nothing to see here people." Manningham has never been the same since tearing his left ACL and PCL in late December of 2012. He spent four seasons with the Giants before moving on to the 49ers. Now he's back to compete for a roster spot. Manningham is around fourth on the depth chart, and there's no guarantee he makes the final roster.

Giants | Mario Manningham to visit    Sun Mar 16, 05:37 PM

The New York Giants will visit with free-agent WR Mario Manningham (49ers) Monday, March 17.

Footballguys view: Manningham began his career with the Giants back in 2008. Knee injuries have slowed Manningham down in recent years, but he could work as a deep threat in the Giants new offense.

49ers | Mario Manningham unlikely to return    Mon Jan 27, 05:27 PM

The San Francisco 49ers are not expected to re-sign impending free-agent WR Mario Manningham this offseason.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Manningham won't have a white-hot market for his services this offseason. The 49ers are best served to go in a different direction when looking for wide receiver depth.

49ers | Mario Manningham feeling good    Mon Jan 27, 02:27 PM

San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent WR Mario Manningham (knee) said his injured knee is doing well, and that he expects to be able to participate in offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: Manningham won't see a white-hot market for his services this offseason. He may end up taking a veteran minimum deal just to stay with the 49ers.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick had previous trouble with Carolina    Sat Jan 11, 02:33 AM

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick had one of his worst games as an NFL player the first time the 49ers played the Carolina Panthers. In that game, he completed 11 of 22 passes for 91 yards and no touchdowns. The Panthers also sacked Kaepernick six times and intercepted one of his passes. Kaepernick completed passes to six receivers against the Panthers. However, three of those players aren't on the roster or are out for the season -- WR Mario Manningham, WR Kyle Williams and WR Bruce Miller.

Footballguys view: The return of Michael Crabtree could very well prove to be the difference here. He's Kaepernick's favorite receiver, and should be able to get open regularly against the Panthers secondary.

49ers | Mario Manningham to IR    Fri Dec 27, 04:21 PM

The San Francisco 49ers placed WR Mario Manningham (knee) on Injured Reserve Friday, Dec. 27.

Footballguys view: Manningham's season is now over, and there are some who feel his career is in jeopardy as well. He's a free agent in 2014, and we can't imagine the market being white hot for his services. Rookie Quinton Patton will now be the team's third receiver.

San Francisco 49ers rookie WR Quinton Patton is operating as the team's No. 3 wideout in the Week 17 game against the Atlanta Falcons Monday, Dec. 23, with WR Mario Manningham (illness, knee) inactive.

Footballguys view: Patton has good upside in deep dynasty leagues. He's not a refined route runner, but he can get open on deep routes. Patton has good ball tracking ability and good speed in the open field.

49ers | Mario Manningham limited    Thu Nov 21, 07:51 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Mario Manningham (knee) was limited during practice Thursday, Nov. 21.

Footballguys view: Manningham hasn't been fantasy relevant because of injury and competing with touches with Vernon Davis, Anquan Boldin and even Frank Gore. San Francisco 49ers WR Mario Manningham (knee) will make his season debut in Week 10 against the Carolina Panthers, and he's not even listed on the team's injury report.

Footballguys view: Manningham is another mouth to feed in a pass offense that is already meager by NFL standards. He isn't worth adding, but he could take the edge off of Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis's value, with Michael Crabtree also due to return before the season is over.

49ers | Mario Manningham expects to play in Week 10    Thu Nov 7, 01:13 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Mario Manningham (knee) is expected to make his season debut in Week 10 after recovering from knee surgery. Manningham is not worried about the stability of his knee. 'The knee I had surgery on is better than the other one,' Manningham said. 'So I'm not thinking about that when I'm out there.'

Footballguys view: Expect Manningham to slowly ease into things, and not start this week opposite Anquan Boldin. The Niners aren't a great passing team at this point--if it's not Vernon Davis and Boldin, it's not normally worth starting.

Footballguys view: The 49ers will ease Manningham back in the lineup. When he's at full strength he could start opposite Anquan Boldin. The 49ers passing game isn't one fantasy owners should invest strongly in behind Boldin and Vernon Davis. Manningham can take the top off the defense, but he shouldn't make a huge fantasy impact.
