Giants | Manning struggles Week 8 Sun Nov 1, 04:54 PM
The Associated Press reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning went 20-for-39 for 222 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Week 8. Manning consistently threw high over his receivers or was the victim of bad route running.
| Our view: Manning was out of sync all day long. Though he threw two picks, he could easily have thrown more as he narrowly avoided two other interceptions in the first half alone. |

The Associated Press reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning was 14-for-31 for 178 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception during the team's Week 6 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Giants | Manning practicing Thursday Thu Oct 15, 12:41 PM
Ohm Youngmusik, of the New York Daily News, reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning (foot) is participating in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.
| Our view: The Giants were very pleased with Manning's performance against the Raiders last week, but facing New Orleans is on a whole other level. New York may lean on their ground game, not only as Manning is recovering from his foot injury but also as a means to keep Drew Brees and the high powered Saints offense off the field. |

Giants | Manning's foot fine Mon Oct 12, 03:17 PM
Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News, reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning (foot) said his foot felt fine Monday, Oct. 12, after the team's Week 5 game. He is still planning to practice Wednesday, Oct. 15, and hopefully all week long. 'I felt good,' Manning said. 'I moved around and didn't have a setback by any means. I feel like it's getting better every day and should feel better this week and keep improving.'
| Our view: Manning stated his goal is to have three full practices this week as the team heads into a very important matchup against the New Orleans Saints. There is no way that Eli is gointg to miss out on a game against his father's old team. |

Giants | Will not add Bomar to roster Sat Oct 10, 04:34 PM
Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News, reports New York Giants will not sign practice squad QB Rhett Bomar to their active roster. The decision seems to indicate QB Eli Manning (foot) may be able to play in Week 5.
| Our view: With a banged up Eli Manning, the Giants may decide to lean on their ground game more than ever. That way they can drain the clock and pound out what should be an easy win against the Raiders. |

Giants | Manning questionable for Week 5 Fri Oct 9, 04:10 PM
Updating a previous report, Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News, reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning (foot) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 9. He is listed as questionable for Week 5 but is expected to play.
| Our view: Manning was said to be near 100% by backup David Carr and the team was encouraged with his practice reps. Expect Manning to start against Tampa Bay, though the team will likely rely on its running game heavily against the scuffling Buccaneers. |

Giants | Manning misses practice Thursday Thu Oct 8, 12:51 PM
New York Giants QB Eli Manning (foot) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 8.
| Our view: If Manning can't play against the Raiders we should see David Carr as the starter. Even if Manning does play we could see the Giants lean more on the ground game as they try to pound Oakland and get out of the game with an easy win. |

Giants | Carr to work with first-team offense Wednesday Wed Oct 7, 11:50 AM
ESPN.com reports New York Giants QB David Carr will take snaps with the first-team offense in practice Wednesday, Oct. 7, in place of QB Eli Manning (heel).
| Our view: David Carr has looked much better with the Giants than he did with the Carolina Panthers, and may get the start against the Raiders this week. If he does start, we expect the Giants to rely on their ground game more than ever to keep the pressure off Carr. |

Giants | Manning to miss practice Wednesday Wed Oct 7, 11:21 AM
CBSSports.com reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning (heel) will not practice Wednesday, Oct. 7, and will receive treatment instead. When asked if Manning could play in Week 5 without practicing, head coach Tom Coughlin replied, 'He's done it before.'
| Our view: Manning's playing status will basically come down to how much pain he can play through. The Giants are facing Oakland this week, and while we hesitate to call that an easy win, it does mean the Giants have no rush to bring Manning back too soon. |

Giants | Manning has plantar fasciitis Mon Oct 5, 06:03 PM
Updating a previous report, Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News, reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning (foot) has confirmed that he has plantar fasciitis. Manning said a doctor told him it is not as serious he has seen before because it affects only a portion of his foot. Manning has been told he can't make the injury worse. Manning sounds like he wants to try to play in Week 5.
| Our view: The injury is painful, but Manning should play through it. It will probably limit his ability to move around in the pocket, so don't expect any plays like the David Tyree miracle catch in the Super Bowl during the next few weeks. |

Giants | Manning injury update Mon Oct 5, 09:24 AM
Paul Schwartz, of the New York Post, reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning (heel) said his injured heel will be evaluated Monday, Oct. 5. However, Manning believes he did not injure his Achilles' tendon in Week 4. 'Any time you feel that kind of a little pull or strain, especially down there, you get nervous, you don't know if it's an Achilles or something,' Manning said. 'It wasn't that. I kind of knew after a second it wasn't that. I could stand up, I could still walk around and put some pressure on it. I was more relieved after that.'
| Our view: When the game was over Manning was seen walking with only the slightest trace of a limp. The Giants can breathe a sigh of relief here, because their Super Bowl hopes would be crushed if David Carr was under center. |

Manning went to the sideline in the fourth quarter with what he described as a bruised heel. He said he would assume he would be ready for the team's Week 5 game.

Giants | Manning, receivers struggle Saturday Sat Aug 29, 11:47 PM
NFL.com reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning struggled with the long ball against the New York Jets Saturday, Aug. 29. He overthrew TE Kevin Boss in the end zone during the first quarter, WR Domenik Hixon in the second and a wide open WR Mario Manningham in the third. When Manning did make good throws, his receivers didn't give him any help by dropping catchable passes. In just over two quarters of action, Manning hit 9-of-21 passes for 91 yards, one touchdown and an interception.
| Our view: Manning is still only an uninspiring backup fantasy QB option, especially with his receivers failing to make plays. Steve Smith dropped a long pass that could have made Manning's night. At least Hakeem Nicks showed a lot of potential playing late with David Carr. |

Giants | Manning feels receivers have shown improvement Tue Aug 25, 12:11 PM
Michael Eisen, of Giants.com, reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning said Tuesday, Aug. 25, he believes his young receiving corps has grown during the course of training camp. 'I think so,' Manning said. 'I think we have definitely grown in the receiving group. Guys have gotten a lot of reps, gotten a lot of work to continue to learn within the offense. I think we are definitely better off then where we were a few weeks ago, when we got here. There is still definitely room for improvement, but I don't think you ever stop improving and keep working. These guys will continue to learn within this offense, learn about coverages and decisions and that part of preseason and about just experiencing game situations.'
| Our view: Domenik Hixon and Steve Smith are currently listed at the top of the Giants' depth chart, and it's good to hear that Manning is gaining more trust in what his receivers can do. With Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer long gone this Giants WR corps will have a new look in 2009. They drafted two rookies with upside, but both Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden need to develop their pro game before we can expect to see them in the starting lineup. |

Giants | Manning officially signs extension Fri Aug 14, 10:58 AM
ESPN.com reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning has officially signed his six-year, $97.5 million contract extension. The deal includes $35 million in guaranteed money.

Updating a previous report, ESPN.com reports the New York Giants have agreed to a new six-year deal with QB Eli Manning that is worth $97.5 million, a source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. The deal includes $35 million in guaranteed money.

Giants | Manning on verge of signing extension Wed Aug 5, 08:51 AM
Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning is on the verge of signing a six-year contract extension. The deal could be finalized Wednesday, Aug. 5, barring any major setbacks, according to a team source. The deal will make Manning the highest-paid player in the history of the Giants organization as well as the highest-paid quarterback per year in NFL history.
| Our view: Adam Schefter is reporting that the deal is done on Twitter. He expects Philip Rivers to be next. We wonder how much money David Tyree and Asante Samuel made for Manning in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLII. |

Giants | Contract extension for E. Manning not imminent Thu Jul 30, 10:30 PM
Tom Rock, of Newsday, reports the New York Giants are not close to completing a contract extension with QB Eli Manning. No deal between the team and Manning is imminent, according to one person familiar with the negotiations. Both sides would like to have a deal in place before Manning becomes a free agent after the 2009 season.
| Our view: Eli will likely get the largest contract in NFL history. Maybe the Giants want to see what he do when he has to put the passing offense on his shoulders and doesn't have Plaxico Burress to bail him out on erratic throws before they give him that kind of money. |

Giants | Manning ready to lead offense Wed Jul 1, 10:34 AM
Paul Schwartz, of the New York Post, reports New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese said there will be more responsibility placed on QB Eli Manning's shoulders this season, as he will have to guide a young offensive unit. 'We're going to put more of the onus on him,' Reese said. Manning said he is up to the challenge. 'I think you got a quarterback going into his sixth year and ... some young receivers,' Manning said. 'It's my job to make sure those guys are on the same page and my job to be a leader and take control of the offense and the passing game. As a quarterback you're always going to be a leader, but now I'm one of the older guys on the offense.'
| Our view: The running game will be rock solid as always with Brandon Jacobs leading the way, but the passing game will look much different this season. Gone are Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer, so Eli Manning will have to command a group of young receivers with little or no experience. Players like Domenik Hixon, Steve Smith, Sinorice Moss, and Mario Manningham will help bridge the gap for the team as they transition into a new era. Rookies like Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden give promise to the future, and if they reach their full potential the Giants will be set at the WR position for years to come. |
