Redskins | Two quarterbacks work out for Redskins Tue Dec 4, 04:38 PM
Free-agent QBs Landry Jones (Steelers) and Ryan Mallett (Ravens) worked out for the Washington Redskins Tuesday, Dec. 4, according to sources. The Redskins will also consider signing free-agent QBs Josh Johnson (Raiders), EJ Manuel (Raiders) or T.J. Yates (Texans), among others.
Footballguys view: Washington is expected to sign Johnson in the near future. When that happens, Johnson will work as the backup behind Mark Sanchez. |

Ravens | Ryan Mallett may return to Ravens Wed Mar 1, 01:49 PM
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said the team is talking with impending free-agent QB Ryan Mallett about a new contract.
Footballguys view: Mallett seemed like a good fit behind Joe Flacco. If he's happy being a backup, then why not say with Baltimore? We don't think any team would be willing to offer Mallett a starting job or even a chance at competing for a starting job in 2017. |

Ravens | Joe Flacco will miss workouts Mon May 23, 08:16 PM
Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (knee) will miss all of the organized team activities this offseason because he is still recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to watch this situation closely as Flacco returns from a major knee injury suffered late last year. Flacco said he has made big improvements in his recovery, and head coach John Harbaugh said Flacco should be ready for training camp. QB Ryan Mallett will work with the first-team offense during the workouts. |

Baltimore Ravens QB Ryan Mallett won his team debut, completing 28 of his 41 passes for 274 yards and a touchdown in a 20-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 16.
Footballguys view: Mallett threw with better touch and anticipation than he had at Houston, and obviously had a very auspicious start to his Ravens career. He'll have another chance to stake a claim to a long-term backup role against Cincinnati next week. |

Ravens | Baltimore non-committal on QB Fri Dec 18, 04:51 PM
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said he isn't naming a starting quarterback for Week 15 against the Kansas City Chiefs Friday, Dec. 18, even though QB Matt Schaub (chest) is listed as probable. QB Jimmy Clausen is another option to start against the Chiefs. Clausen took at least half of practice repetitions both Wednesday, Dec. 16, and Thursday, Dec. 17, according to offensive coordinator Marc Trestman. Harbaugh said Schaub has a chance to be 100% healthy by Sunday, Dec. 20. It's highly unlikely that QB Ryan Mallett will see playing time Sunday after being signed this week.
Footballguys view: Schaub is the better starter for both the Ravens passing game options and the Chiefs D/ST fantasy prospects. We'll be watching this one Sunday morning to help break some ties on close calls. |

Baltimore Ravens QB Ryan Mallett could see the field this year, according to head coach John Harbaugh. 'He's on the team. He absolutely has a chance,' Harbaugh said.

Free-agent QB Ryan Mallett (Texans) will be signing an undisclosed deal with the Baltimore Ravens Monday, Dec. 14, according to a source.

Ravens | Ryan Mallett works out for Ravens Wed Dec 2, 01:28 PM
Free-agent QB Ryan Mallett (Texans) worked out for the Baltimore Ravens Wednesday, Dec. 2, according to sources.

Jets | Ryan Mallett not an option for Jets Mon Nov 2, 01:10 PM
Free-agent QB Ryan Mallett (Texans) will not be an option for the New York Jets as they look to add another quarterback.
Footballguys view: Mallett is not a good option for any team...no matter how desperate the situation. We'd be shocked if he gets added by any team anytime soon. Buffalo Bills QB Josh Johnson might make some sense if he becomes available, since he has a working knowledge of the playbook. |

Bills | Unlikely to sign Ryan Mallett Wed Oct 28, 12:32 PM
Free-agent QB Ryan Mallett (Texans) could have a suitor in the Buffalo Bills, but it's unlikely that they'd sign him. QB Tyrod Taylor (knee) is expected to be back after the bye week, and Buffalo isn't believed to be looking to replace QB EJ Manuel. Also, QB Josh Johnson is another option for the Bills, and he has knowledge of offensive coordinator Greg Roman's system.
Footballguys view: After his antics in Houston, it's clear Mallett has some growing up to do and may struggle to find a new home. Certainly his 'me-first' attitude is not something Rex Ryan needs in Buffalo, something even super-over confident Ryan can see. |

Free-agent QB T.J. Yates (Falcons) could be rejoining the Houston Texans in light of the release of QB Ryan Mallett, according to sources. QB Brian Hoyer is currently the only quarterback on the Texans' roster.

Texans | Houston cuts Ryan Mallett Tue Oct 27, 12:23 PM
Houston Texans QB Ryan Mallett was released Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Footballguys view: Nobody...not even Mallett...should be surprised by this move. We're surprised it took until Tuesday for this decision to come down. Mallett has a big arm, but he lacks accuracy and leadership qualities. Word out of Houston is the locker room was not behind Mallett and many of his teammates did not like him. We'll see if another team wants to take a chance on his big arm. |

Texans | Ryan Mallett to be cut? Tue Oct 27, 12:06 PM
Houston Texans QB Ryan Mallett missed a flight before the Week 7 game against the Miami Dolphins Saturday, Oct. 24, and head coach Bill O'Brien was livid enough that he initially considered cutting Mallett immediately, according to the Houston Chronicle. The Texans ended up keeping Mallett because he's the only other quarterback behind QB Brian Hoyer on roster. It's still possible that Mallett is released, but they need to find another quarterback to replace him first. Saturday was the second known time that Mallett was late for a team activity.
Footballguys view: Mallett has seemingly dialed out since he's not the starter. The Texans don't have a great QB situation with Brian Hoyer, but that's certainly not improved if/when Mallett is on the field. |

Hoyer went 24-for-31 for 312 yards, two touchdowns and a late interception against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5 Thursday, Oct. 8, while replacing QB Ryan Mallett.
Footballguys view: O'Brien going back to Hoyer means that Mallett and his sad face are back on the bench. The Texans have a bad QB situation, but DeAndre Hopkins is still producing through the air. Going forward, we only trust Hopkins and Arian Foster as startable players for your fantasy team. |

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer replaced QB Ryan Mallett against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5, and he completed 24 of 31 attempts for 312 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a 27-20 loss.
Footballguys view: Hoyer's numbers look good, but his first touchdown was the worst defended hail mary in the history of the league, and he blew the game with an ill-advised interception late. The Texans probably have the worst quarterback situation in the whole league. |

Houston Texans QB Ryan Mallett threw for 244 yards and one touchdown in a 24-17 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Footballguys view: Mallett was terrible, needing 58 attempts to get to 244, and completing less than half of them. The Texans offense is stuck in a ditch on the side of the road without Arian Foster. He should be back and probably relied on more than he should be next week against Tampa. |

Hoyer started the season opener but was benched in the fourth quarter after going 18-for-36 and committing two turnovers.
Footballguys view: Again, it's better to get this out of the way as uncertainty won't help the Texans prepare and really waiting isn't fooling anyone. We wouldn't start Mallett this week. He's an uncertain quantity, so we have him as a QB3 right now. |

Texans | Ryan Mallett set to start in Week 2 Wed Sep 16, 01:58 PM
The Houston Texans are preparing to use QB Ryan Mallett over QB Brian Hoyer in Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Well, we're glad Bill O'Brien wasn't serious about his 'you have to wait' mandate about who was starting at quarterback. It does nobody on Houston any good to preserve doubt about who the week's guy is. Now, we wouldn't name his as our starting fantasy quarterback, and neither should you. |

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer was replaced by QB Ryan Mallett in a 27-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, Sept. 13, and head coach Bill O'Brien said he didn't know if Hoyer would start Week 2.
Footballguys view: That's almost as good as a demotion with the backing Hoyer seemed to have from O'Brien coming into the season. Hoyer took the wind out of the Texans' sails almost immediately, and it will be hard for the team to be confident with him at the helm. |

Texans | Ryan Mallett impressive in relief Sun Sep 13, 04:56 PM
Houston Texans QB Ryan Mallett entered Week 1's game against the Kansas City Chiefs late in the fourth quarter, replacing an ineffective Brian Hoyer. Mallett went 8-for-13 for 98 yards and a touchdown, leading the team down the field on a six-play, 59-yard scoring drive. Hoyer was 18-for-34 for 236 passing yards, with one touchdown and one interception and turned the ball over twice inside the Texans' 15-yard-line before being removed.
Footballguys view: Mallett coming in was especially good for DeAndre Hopkins. Mallett isn't the experienced veteran that Hoyer is off the field, but on the field he has a stronger arm, bolder decision making, and fewer egregious errors. Bill O'Brien should give a lot of thought to starting Mallett at Carolina next week. |

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans QB Ryan Mallett missed practice Thursday, Aug. 27, because he overslept. Mallett was present for meetings later on, however. He will also be at practice Friday, Aug. 28.
Footballguys view: We understand it. Madden 16 came out earlier this week (and Gears of War Ultimate Edition), so some late-night gaming might have been in order. Brian Hoyer has already been named the starter in Houston, and that gamer Mallett is the backup. |

Texans | Ryan Mallett not at practice Thu Aug 27, 04:07 PM
Houston Texans QB Ryan Mallett (personal) was not at practice Thursday, Aug. 27, due to a personal issue, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.
Footballguys view: Could it be that he's upset he got 'Hoyer'd' when Brian Hoyer was named the starter? He certainly seemed upset by the decision, and frankly we were baffled as well. It's easy to read into things without many facts--after all, Mallett was at Wednesday's practice after he lost the job and O'Brien hints he'll be back Friday. Still it's an intriguing idea that he was so upset he walked off. We'll be waiting to see what Hard Knocks has to say about it. We would avoid this quarterback situation if at all possible. Hoyer is aggressively mediocre, and no better than a QB3. Right now Mallett isn't even that though at least he has the upside of the unknown. This isn't a great situation though and Fantasy GMs are best looking elsewhere. |

Texans | Houston not ready to name starting QB Fri Aug 21, 04:19 PM
Houston Texans QBs Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett have need competing for the starting quarterback job, but head coach Bill O'Brien wants to see them play more before making a decision. 'I need to see a little bit more and I want to give Ryan a chance to start a game, and put some more thought into it. Then make a decision at some point whether it's next week or the week after. At some point, we'll make a decision,' O'Brien said.
Footballguys view: Both quarterbacks (and even Tom Savage) looked good against the 49ers in Week 1 of the preseason, which might be more about the state of the San Francisco defense than the state of the Houston quarterback situation. This pass offense could power DeAndre Hopkins to near WR1 numbers, but that's only because he's a high wattage bulb. |
