NFL | Paxton Lynch headed to Canada    Mon Jun 28, 08:23 PM

Free-agent QB Paxton Lynch (Steelers) signed an undisclosed contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League on Monday, June 28.

Footballguys view: Lynch, a first-round pick of the Broncos in the 2016 NFL draft, has bounced around the league as a bust. His work ethic was questioned but his arm strength and athleticism was not. He gets a fresh start in Canada but is unlikely to play in the NFL again.

Steelers | Devlin Hodges likely to draw Week 6 start    Mon Oct 7, 12:06 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Devlin Hodges is expected to serve as the starting quarterback in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Chargers while Mason Rudolph (concussion) recovers from the concussion he suffered in Week 5 versus the Baltimore Ravens. QB Paxton Lynch is expected to be elevated from the practice squad to serve as his backup.

Footballguys view: Expect the Chargers defense to be in a lot of lineups in Week 6. Hodges is athletic and keeps plays alive but he doesn't have the strongest arm and is limited in the throws he can make and the plays you can call.

Steelers | Paxton Lynch joins Steelers    Tue Sep 17, 11:37 AM

Free-agent QB Paxton Lynch (Seahawks) was signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Footballguys view: Lynch is tall, athletic and has a rocket arm. However, he's failed in two stops (Denver, Seattle) so far as a pro. The 2016 first-round pick of the Broncos has been known to perhaps not dive into the playbook as much as he needed. We'll see if he can impress in Pittsburgh. Lynch will work as the scout team quarterback. Mason Rudolph is the starter now with Devlin Hodges backing him up.

Seahawks | Paxton Lynch cut    Fri Aug 30, 06:30 PM

Seattle Seahawks QB Paxton Lynch was waived Friday, Aug. 30, according to a source. Lynch could be a candidate for the practice squad, in the opinion of The Seattle Times' Bob Condotta.

Footballguys view: The former first round pick should still hang around the fringe of rosters, but it's a bad sign that he can't even catch on as a developmental third quarterback right now.

Seahawks | Seattle signs Paxton Lynch    Thu Jan 17, 04:23 PM

Free-agent QB Paxton Lynch (Broncos) was signed to an undisclosed deal by the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Jan. 17.

Footballguys view: Lynch was a bust with the Broncos of epic proportions. A first-round pick in 2016, Lynch never could earn the starting job in Denver over backup-caliber QB Trevor Siemian. Lynch was out of football for the 2018 season but did workout for several teams. He'll get a chance to compete for the backup spot to Russell Wilson in 2019.

Titans | Paxton Lynch, Ben Koyack hosted by Titans    Tue Oct 23, 07:51 PM

Free-agents QB Paxton Lynch (Broncos) and TE Ben Koyack (Jaguars) worked out for the Tennessee Titans Tuesday, Oct. 23.

Footballguys view: Lynch has yet to be signed after being released from the Broncos in early September. Quite a few teams have worked him out, yet nobody has taken a chance on the 2016 first-round pick. The Titans are updating their emergency list...and for good reason as Blaine Gabbert is the primary backup to starter Marcus Mariota.

Buccaneers | Tampa will not add Paxton Lynch    Sat Oct 6, 01:04 PM

Free-agent QB Paxton Lynch (Broncos) worked out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this week, but the team is not expected to offer him a contract.

Footballguys view: Lynch has worked out for several teams now but nobody is yet interested in adding the 2016 first-round pick (Broncos). His reputation seems to proceed him on these stops. Lynch is big, athletic and has a strong arm...but there were plenty of questions about his work ethic during his two years in Denver.

Buccaneers | Tampa Bay hosts Paxton Lynch    Wed Oct 3, 01:23 PM

Free-agent QB Paxton Lynch (Broncos) worked out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wednesday, Oct. 3.

Footballguys view: Several teams have kicked the tires on Lynch, a 2016 first-round pick of the Broncos who was let go before the start of the regular season. Lynch has a reputation of having a questionable work ethic but he does have a strong arm and athleticism. In this QB-needy league, it's surprising nobody has yet to give him a new chance.

Redskins | Washington works out three players    Mon Sep 17, 05:47 PM

Free-agent QB Paxton Lynch (Broncos), WR Michael Floyd (Saints) and WR Kendall Wright (Vikings) worked out for the Washington Redskins Monday, Sept. 17.

Footballguys view: Washington has only two quarterbacks on the active roster (Alex Smith, Colt McCoy) and they don't have a third quarterback on the practice squad. Since getting released by the Broncos, 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch has gotten a few teams interested. Indications are that he hasn't impressed during the interview process. We'll see if someone wants to take a chance on the physical attributes (size, arm strength) that Lynch clearly has.

Bills | Buffalo will host Paxton Lynch    Mon Sep 3, 05:56 PM

Free-agent QB Paxton Lynch (Broncos) will work out for the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, Sept. 4, according to a source.

Footballguys view: This seems like an odd fit for workaholic Sean McDermott. Lynch was a first-round pick for the Broncos in 2016 but he was beat out by seventh-round picks (Trevor Siemian, Chad Kelly) two years in a row. Concerns about his work ethic and ability to run a pro offense surfaced during his time in Denver. Lynch passed through waivers unclaimed but there is some team who should be willing to take a chance on a 6'7" mobile quarterback with a rocket arm.

Broncos | Denver parts ways with Paxton Lynch    Sun Sep 2, 03:25 PM

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch was waived Sunday, Sept. 2.

Broncos | Paxton Lynch carves up Cardinals    Fri Aug 31, 02:27 AM

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch completed 14 of 15 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns against the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday, Aug. 30. It won't allow him to overtake QB Chad Kelly, in the opinion of ESPN's Jeff Legwold, but Lynch's performance could keep him on the 53-man roster.

Footballguys view: Lynch at best is on track to be a backup, but it took awhile to show signs of life. His roster spot is still not assured.

Broncos | Paxton Lynch struggles Saturday    Sat Aug 11, 11:35 PM

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch completed six of his 11 passes for 24 yards and an interception against the Minnesota Vikings in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: Lynch probably isn't good enough to be the backup for the Broncos, or most teams, and Denver will need to ask themselves hard questions about whether they are ready to move on from a first-round pick in his third year. Chad Kelly is pushing to backup Case Keenum this year.

Broncos | Paxton Lynch, Chad Kelly struggling?    Fri Aug 3, 02:14 AM

The Denver Broncos could look into signing a veteran backup if QBs Paxton Lynch and Chad Kelly don't start showing more in training camp, according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold.

Footballguys view: Lynch hasn't developed after being a first round pick, and Kelly looks like a Mr. Irrelevant in his first healthy camp. The Broncos aren't the only team in need of an upgrade at backup quarterback.

Broncos | Paxton Lynch staying ready    Sun Jun 17, 10:16 PM

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch said he is 'very comfortable' running offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave's playbook and remains confident that he can lead the offense if called upon.

Footballguys view: Lynch has looked better this offseason and may have finally figured out what it takes to be a pro. A first-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, Lynch has failed to beat out Trevor Siemian for two years. Now, Siemian is gone to the Vikings and Lynch now has no shot of being the starter so long as free agent addition Case Keenum is healthy. The team hasn't given up on Lynch just yet...and they may be the only people that have faith in Lynch to 'get it' and play up to his potential.

Broncos | Paxton Lynch improving    Sat Jun 2, 11:17 PM

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch has been the best quarterback on the roster at making 'smart decisions' with the ball during OTAs, according to offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave.

Footballguys view: Lynch has looked better than ever before...in practice...with no pads on. The team (read; John Elway) may still believe in Lynch, but the 2016 first-round pick has failed to win the starting job in two years. This season, Lynch is no way in contention for the top spot. He's not relaxing per head coach Vance Joseph, but Lynch has always flashed with no/little pressure. Put him in pads when the tackling is live and then we'll see what kind of improvement he's really made.

Broncos | Chad Kelly may be No. 2 QB    Fri May 25, 08:31 PM

Denver Broncos QB Chad Kelly will compete with QB Paxton Lynch for the No. 2 quarterback job during training camp, according to general manager John Elway. Kelly and Lynch has been splitting snaps evenly with the second-team offense during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: Somebody get our guy Cecil Lammey smelling salts, because he probably about fainted hearing the Broncos might get a little outlaw country under center this year. Kelly has all the tools you might want, but injury concerns as well as attitude and off field issues killed his value in the 2017 NFL Draft. But if he has his head on straight, he could end up being the long term answer for the Broncos at quarterback.

Broncos | Paxton Lynch is No. 2 QB for now    Fri Mar 16, 04:30 PM

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch is the backup to QB Case Keenum, head coach Vance Joseph said Friday, March 16, although the team continues to look at top quarterback prospects in the 2018 NFL Draft. 'Paxton is still young,' president of football operations John Elway said. 'We still have high hopes for Paxton. He's a young guy that is talented. He's been here for two years and had a tough year last year with the injuries and everything, but we still have high hopes for Paxton to come in here and compete and continue to grow as a quarterback. That is the expectation for Paxton.'
