Eagles | Chris Long announces retirement    Sat May 18, 09:23 PM

Philadelphia Eagles DL Chris Long announced his retirement from the NFL Saturday, May 18.

Footballguys view: This move was expected by Long at some point this offseason. He finishes his 11-year career as a two-time Super Bowl Champion (Patriots, Eagles) with 70 sacks and 15 forced fumbles in 162 games. Long was a solid player on the field but a spectacular ambassador for the league and a great man off the field.

Eagles | Chris Long decision looming    Tue Apr 30, 11:25 AM

Philadelphia Eagles DE Chris Long has a $1 million roster bonus Wednesday, May 1. Long is contemplating his football future.

Footballguys view: The Eagles should be planning on Long retiring. Earlier this month, Long made that clear on the airwaves. "Too hard on my body, my family, on everyone else to kind of go through it for a role that's far from perfect," Long said on the Philadelphia Enquirer's podcast. "I told [the team] this maybe a month ago: 'Hey, listen, plan like I'm not going to be back."

Eagles | Derek Barnett pushing Chris Long    Tue Jul 18, 10:25 AM

Philadelphia Eagles DE Derek Barnett is pushing DE Chris Long for the starting job. Long is expected to be the starter for now.

Footballguys view: Barnett was one of the most productive players to come out in the 2017 NFL draft. He broke Reggie White's all-time sack record at the University of Tennessee, and Barnett has the makings of a star pro. Even if he doesn't win the starting job, Barnett should get plenty of snaps as a pass rushing specialist for the Eagles.

Eagles | Philly DEs will be part of rotation    Sat Jun 24, 04:14 PM

Philadelphia Eagles DEs Derek Barnett, Brandon Graham, Chris Long and Vinny Curry are expected to be a part of a rotation at the defensive ends spots during the regular season.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have a nice mix of experience and youth at this position. We love the upside of Barnett, one of the most productive players coming out of college in 2017. Barnett finished his college career as the all-time leader in sacks at the University of Tennessee. His technique and hustle could help him make an early impact as a pro.

Free-agent DE Chris Long (Patriots) agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday, March 28. It's believed to be worth around the $2.4 million he made last year.

Patriots | Chris Long joins New England    Wed Mar 16, 12:40 AM

The New England Patriots signed free-agent DE Chris Long (Rams) to a one-year contract Tuesday, March 15. Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Footballguys view: After trading away DE Chandler Jones (Cardinals), the Patriots had to do something at the position. Adding Long makes a lot of sense. Over the last two years, Long has battled through various injuries and that's why the Pats may use him as a rotational player. If healthy, Long provides the team with great value.

Rams | Chris Long almost 100 percent    Sat Jun 13, 09:10 PM

St. Louis Rams DE Chris Long (ankle) has been encouraged by his progress during organized team activities (OTAs), and he feels like he is almost back to his old self after missing 10 games due to a unique ankle injury in 2014. Long said he is almost back to 100 percent healthy.

Footballguys view: Long missed most of last season, but he did return for the final five games of 2014. He only had one sack last year as he didn't look like his old self. Long has a $12.5 million cap number this year, so getting him back to full strength (and full production) is a must for the Rams.
