Colts | Colts elevate two RBs    Sat Nov 5, 12:06 PM

Indianapolis Colts RBs Phillip Lindsay and Jordan Wilkins have been elevated from the practice squad for Week 9, the team announced on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Footballguys view: Jonathan Taylor is going to be out in Week 9 with a week-to-week ankle problem. Deon Jackson is the lead back for the Colts, and Lindsay can work as the backup with Wilkins mixed in as well.

Colts | Indy calls up Philip Lindsay    Thu Oct 6, 02:20 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Phillip Lindsay was elevated from the practice squad Thursday, Oct. 6.

Footballguys view: Lindsay gets to go against his old team on Thursday night. A two-time 1,000-yard rusher for the Broncos to start his career, Lindsay was unceremoniously dumped by the team in favor of Mike Boone a couple of years ago. Since then, Lindsay has bounced around to a few teams.

Colts | Phillip Lindsay elevated from practice squad    Thu Oct 6, 10:21 AM

Indianapolis Colts RB Phillip Lindsay was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster Thursday, Oct. 6.

Colts | Philip Lindsay could make debut in Week 5    Mon Oct 3, 04:58 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Phillip Lindsay will 'work into the equation' at running back if Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is unable to play in Week 5 versus the Denver Broncos.

Footballguys view: That would be quite fitting as a revenge game for Lindsay. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent and ran for back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with the Broncos. Then, they essentially chose Melvin Gordon and Mike Boone over Lindsay and he's bounced around to a few different teams over the last couple of years. We'll see if he gets a chance to throw it back in the Broncos' face on Thursday night.

Colts | Philip Lindsay rejoins Indy on practice squad    Tue Sep 6, 02:13 PM

Free-agent RB Phillip Lindsay (Colts) was added to the practice squad of the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Footballguys view: Lindsay was signed earlier this year, but he failed to make the 53-man roster. Now, he gets a chance to stick in the league on the practice squad. If injuries hit above him on the depth chart, Lindsay could be called up.

Colts | Phillip Lindsay released    Tue Aug 30, 09:14 AM

Indianapolis Colts RB Phillip Lindsay was released Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Footballguys view: Lindsay entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado in 2018, and he had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Since then, it's been all downhill for the small but feisty runner. He averaged 2.8 yards per carry last year with both the Texans and the Dolphins. He was in line to be the no.3 running back for the Colts but did not do enough to make the team. Somebody out there will likely sign him to be a reserve runner.

Colts | Phillip Lindsay ready to call Indianapolis home    Tue May 17, 02:05 PM

Free-agent RB Phillip Lindsay (Dolphins) reportedly agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday, May 17.

Footballguys view: It's a good landing spot for Lindsay who has bounced around a bit since leaving the Broncos. He was a back-to-back 1,000-yard rusher his first two seasons in Denver, but a timeshare with Melvin Gordon in 2020 led to lower production. Lindsay is not a great receiver out of the backfield, and he doesn't play special teams. However, he is a good runner inside with vision and quickness as the hallmarks of his game. He will compete for a spot on the depth chart behind Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines.

NFL | Phillip Lindsay looking for right fit    Sun Apr 24, 07:33 PM

Free-agent RB Phillip Lindsay (Dolphins) said he is looking for the right fit and is not in a hurry to sign with a new team.

Footballguys view: What's the right fit for Lindsay? He said he wouldn't mind going back to the Broncos, where he had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2019/2020. Since 2020, Lindsay has bounced around to three different teams (Broncos, Dolphins, Texans) and his two-down skill set just isn't that coveted. Teams know he's not a receiving threat and is not a pile pusher in between the tackles.

Dolphins | Phillip Lindsay tests positive for COVID    Mon Dec 13, 01:52 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Phillip Lindsay tested positive for COVID-19 Monday, Dec. 13.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins running back room has been hit hard by COVID over the last week. They had a bye in Week 14 and are now preparing for a divisional game against the Jets on Sunday. Lindsay is the latest to test positive, but last week Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed both went into COVID protocol. Any player who is vaccinated can test negative twice 24 hours apart and return the same week, so there's a chance all three may be available.

Dolphins | Miami adds Phillip Lindsay    Wed Nov 24, 09:07 PM

Free-agent RB Phillip Lindsay (Texans) was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins from the Houston Texans Wednesday, Nov. 24.

Footballguys view: Lindsay didn't do much with the Texans as he was buried on the depth chart. A former back-to-back 1,000-yard rusher, Lindsay is in a great spot with the Dolphins. They have Myles Gaskin as their top back, and Lindsay could push for a larger role if he plays up to his potential. In deeper leagues, Lindsay makes the perfect stash-and-pray waiver wire addition for Fantasy GMs.

Texans | Phillip Lindsay released    Tue Nov 23, 11:43 AM

Houston Texans RB Phillip Lindsay was released Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Footballguys view: Lindsay was a back-to-back 1,000-yard rusher with the Broncos in 2018 and 2019. Then, he was banged up in 2020 and shared time with Melvin Gordon. This previous offseason, the Broncos let him go after he requested his release. The Texans were quick to pick him up, but Lindsay didn't do much to impress or earn a spot in the rotation. Any team with a zone-blocking system should be interested in the small but determined runner.

Texans | Mark Ingram on outside looking in?    Wed Jul 7, 12:56 PM

Houston Texans RB Mark Ingram is in danger of not making the team after the team restructured RB David Johnson's contract and doubled his guaranteed money. Ingram will compete with RBs Phillip Lindsay and Rex Burkhead.

Footballguys view: Earlier this year, The Athletic was speculating that Lindsay would be the one on the outside looking in. Well, nobody wins when betting against Lindsay so it might be Ingram on the bubble. The lack of special teams ability from both is the reason why this is even a talking point. Watch this battle in training camp to see if one of these former 1,000-yard rushers is going to be released.

Texans | Phillip Lindsay, Mark Ingram not locks    Tue Jun 8, 01:46 AM

Houston Texans RBs Phillip Lindsay and Mark Ingram are likely competing for one spot on the final roster, in the opinion of The Athletic's Aaron Reiss, who points out neither player is a special teams contributor.

Footballguys view: It's an interesting position the former 1,000-yard rushers find themselves in. Lindsay is a dynamic player in space and runs with quickness and decisiveness. Ingram is a no-nonsense back who is swift to and through the hole. While Ingram is a better receiver out of the backfield, Lindsay is younger and has fresher legs. We'll see how the pecking order in the Texans backfield shakes out - and if there's room for both.

Texans | Houston inks Phillip Lindsay    Fri Mar 19, 08:13 PM

Free-agent RB Phillip Lindsay (Broncos) reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $3.25 million with the Houston Texans on Friday, March 19.

Footballguys view: Lindsay now joins a backfield with Mark Ingram and David Johnson. After back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, Lindsay struggled in Pat Shurmur's offense with the Broncos in 2020. Now, he gets a fresh start and brings an explosive playmaking element to the position the Texans don't have. We'll see if he can win the starting job or at least a large role in what should be a RBBC for the Texans in 2021.

Broncos | Phillip Lindsay moving on    Thu Mar 18, 10:05 AM

Denver Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay and the team mutually agreed to rescind his restricted free-agent tender Thursday, March 18, according to his agent Mike McCartney.

Footballguys view: Lindsay has never been fully appreciated by the Broncos and could find great success elsewhere. He's a buy low in dynasty leagues right now. Mike Boone will replace him on the running back depth chart.

Broncos | Denver officially tenders three    Tue Mar 16, 06:48 PM

Updating previous stories, Denver Broncos WR Tim Patrick and LB Alexander Johnson were officially tagged with second-round tenders Tuesday, March 16. RB Phillip Lindsay received a right-of-first-refusal tender.

Footballguys view: Patrick will stick with the team for one more year. He filled in admirably for Courtland Sutton last year but is now fourth on the depth chart. Lindsay should have plenty of suitors and might have played his last snap for the Broncos.

Broncos | Phillip Lindsay gets low RFA tender    Mon Mar 15, 10:51 PM

Denver Broncos restricted free-agent RB Phillip Lindsay (undrafted) was tendered at the original-round level Monday, March 15.

Footballguys view: The Broncos are risking Lindsay here. There should be more interest for him than some think. He'll be able to shop his services and if he leaves Denver (they have right of refusal on any deal he signs) the Broncos won't get anything in return as he was an undrafted free agent in 2018.

Broncos | Tender likely for Phillip Lindsay    Thu Mar 4, 01:04 PM

Denver Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay, a pending restricted free agent, is expected to be tendered by the team this offseason, according to a source. The question is whether the tender offer will be an original-round tender -- in Lindsay's case a no-round tender as he was an undrafted free agent -- or a second-round tender.

Footballguys view: Original round tender means the Broncos will have right of refusal if another team signs him to a contract but they will not receive any compensation if he leaves. That sounds like about the level they'll tender him at. However, a second-round tender would pay Lindsay more and essentially guarantee that he returns to the team for one more year. With a suspension likely for Melvin Gordon, and maybe a release, perhaps that's the best move for Denver.

Broncos | New mindset for Phillip Lindsay    Thu Feb 11, 09:17 PM

Denver Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay said he was thrown off mentally last year by the signing of RB Melvin Gordon. 'This year I am going to take a different approach,' Lindsay said. 'I was in battle mode. Everything caught me off guard with my teammate Melvin coming in. You can burn yourself out like that.'

Footballguys view: Lindsay is a restricted free agent, and his future with the Broncos is up in the air. They could put an original-round tender on him, which gives them the right of refusal if someone signs him to a deal. As an undrafted free agent, the Broncos would receive nothing in return if Lindsay is signed away. After back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, Lindsay struggled with injuries and fit in the Pat Shurmur offense.
