Giants | Committee backfield in NY?    Thu Sep 24, 12:20 PM

New York Giants head coach Joe Judge was asked Thursday, Sept. 24, what his plan will be if one of his three running backs, Dion Lewis, Wayne Gallman or Devonta Freeman, gets 'hot' in a game. 'He may be the guy for that moment. He may be the guy for that game,' Judge said, adding that the plan will to be use each of them, each week, depending on the game plan.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. This 'hot hand' approach with backup-level talent means Fantasy GMs should try to find other options if they can. If one back emerges, then we'll change our outlook but right now it looks like a cluster.

Free-agent RB Dion Lewis (Titans) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the New York Giants Monday, March 23, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Lewis gets to work as a reserve running back behind Saquon Barkley. He's got the ability to work well as a change-of-pace option and pass-catcher out of the backfield. Fantasy GMs should keep Lewis on the waiver wire speed dial.

Titans | Dion Lewis released    Thu Mar 12, 01:05 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Dion Lewis was released Thursday, March 12.

Footballguys view: The move was expected by the Titans. This saves them $4 million against the cap, and it's money they'll gladly move over to free agent Derrick Henry. Lewis is a good receiving back and should have plenty of suitors on the open market.

Titans | Dion Lewis expected to be released?    Mon Feb 17, 10:48 AM

Tennessee Titans RB Dion Lewis is expected to be released in the offseason, in the opinion of ESPN's Turron Davenport.

Footballguys view: This sounds about right. Lewis was barely used last year as the team finally figured out that Derrick Henry should touch the ball as much as possible. Lewis can still contribute as a change-of-pace back but not with the Titans. The move would save the team $4 million against the salary cap.

Titans | Dion Lewis disappeared from offense    Fri Jan 31, 09:40 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Dion Lewis played 366 snaps and gained 373 yards from scrimmage in 2019 after playing 600 snaps and gaining 917 yards from scrimmage in 2018.

Footballguys view: The Titans made Derrick Henry the complete centerpiece of their offense...more than ever before in 2019. Lewis has a $5.1 million cap number in 2020 but there's only $1.1 million remaining in dead money. That means the Titans are likely to move on from the veteran back. If he's on the open market, Lewis should get interest from teams looking for a change-of-pace runner.

Titans | Dion Lewis could be released?    Mon Jan 13, 10:14 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Dion Lewis is set to cost $5.162 million against the 2020 salary cap and carries a $1.125 million dead-cap figure if he is released. The Titans would save $9.175 million over the next two seasons by moving on.

Footballguys view: Lewis works only as a change-of-pace back behind Derrick Henry. It's difficult to imagine Lewis staying with the Titans for the 2020 season. Some other team should give him a shot if/when released, but Lewis is unlikely to get a larger role with a new team.

Titans | Week 19 injury report for Tennessee    Thu Jan 9, 03:33 PM

Tennessee Titans LB Jayon Brown (shoulder) and WR Adam Humphries (ankle) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for the team's AFC Divisional Round game against the Baltimore Ravens. WR Cody Hollister (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday, Jan. 9, and is listed as questionable. OG Nate Davis (illness), CB Adoree' Jackson (foot), RB Dion Lewis (shoulder), WR Kalif Raymond (concussion) and LB Kamalei Correa (illness) practiced in full Thursday and have been removed from the injury report.

Footballguys view: So long as RB Derrick Henry is good to go, the Titans have a chance. They'll be using Henry to soften up the Ravens defense. Humphries is out at the wide receiver position but Raymond is back for the Titans this week.

Tennessee Titans RB Dion Lewis rushed 10 times for 13 yards and caught five passes for 39 yards in a 30-9 over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14.

Footballguys view: Lewis got off to a hot start with a screen pass that could have been a long score, but then Derrick Henry took over. He did get a goal line carry late but couldn't convert. He's just bench depth heading into a matchup with the Giants.

Tennessee Titans RB Dion Lewis rushed for 91 yards on 13 carries against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 7. He also caught six passes for 64 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: Lewis was back in top form as a receiver and runner and for the second time this year looked like a foundational piece for this offense. His usage and the offense's overall effectiveness are unpredictable, but he's healthy and looking good going into his bye. Lewis might help PPR teams get to the playoffs yet.

Tennessee Titans RB Dion Lewis ran 12 times for 34 yards in Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills and he posted three grabs for 14 yards on four targets with a fumble lost.

Footballguys view: Lewis wasn't effective as a runner or receiver and the Titans offense never really put the Bills on their heels. He's just a PPR what the heck flex against Baltimore next week.

Titans | Dion Lewis the preferred RB option in Week 1    Mon Sep 10, 12:41 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Dion Lewis out-snapped Derrick Henry 49-20, including a 14-0 advantage on third down in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins. Lewis also saw six snaps in the red zone, compared to Henry's two.

Footballguys view: It's clear that Lewis has an edge in the pecking order. Fantasy GMs can trust him as a RB2, especially in PPR leagues. Henry's fantasy value is lower than that in this current role.

Titans | Derrick Henry should lead backfield    Thu Jul 12, 01:07 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry is expected to serve as the lead running back in 2018. He will split time with RB Dion Lewis, but Henry has been working to improve his receiving and pass protection in order to stay on the field more.

Footballguys view: With an ADP of 17th running back off the board, Fantasy GMs in early drafts seem less sure, and we don't blame them. The staff has implied they will vary his use quite a bit and unless Lewis has lost a step, Henry is likely to lose some third down touches to the free agent back. We do like what new offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur brings to the table in terms of spreading the defense out to create more lanes for his backs, but we are not sure Henry will benefit as much as he might have before Lewis showed up.

Titans | Derrick Henry to lead team in carries?    Thu Jul 5, 09:46 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry could lead the team in rushing attempts and rushing yards this year, according to Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com, but McCormick said it 'isn't out of the question' that RB Dion Lewis finishes with more total yards.

Footballguys view: Lewis has been incredibly productive when healthy, and he appears to be healthy. So McCormick has a good point that while Henry could get more carries, Lewis could have more combined yards given his ability both running and catching the ball. Henry is tracking with an ADP of 17th back off the board while Lewis is going three rounds and ten backs later in drafts. It sounds very much like Lewis could have a lot of value based on position.

Titans | Dion Lewis could lead backfield in yards    Thu Jul 5, 09:38 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Dion Lewis could end up with more all-purpose yards than RB Derrick Henry this season because of Lewis' ability as a receiver, in the opinion of Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com.

Footballguys view: Lewis has been a machine when healthy, and last year's 5 yard per carry average drove that point home coming off a 2016 where he was hurt. While the Titans are saying the amount of carries will vary game to game, between Derrick Henry and Lewis, we think Lewis will get a lot of work. His ADP is currently at 28, and we expect numbers to support that this year.

Titans | Derrick Henry, Dion Lewis viewed equally    Tue Jun 5, 02:50 PM

Tennessee Titans RBs Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis are considered 1a and 1b in the eyes of offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur.

Footballguys view: Bad news for fantasy owners here, especially dynasty owners who have been hanging onto Henry waiting for the backfield to be his and his only. Lewis was added in free agency to split time in the backfield with Henry. While Henry is a powerful and swift back, Lewis is a compact runner who can create space with moves in the open field. Henry has a current ADP of RB17 (3.08) and Lewis is at RB28 (5.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Titans | Dion Lewis expects to be involved    Fri Apr 13, 09:38 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Dion Lewis said both he and RB Derrick Henry will be used in the running game. 'Derrick's a great back and I'm happy to be a part of the backfield with him, so I think we can form a pretty good one-two punch,' Lewis said.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners are pretty much used to Henry sharing time in the backfield. It was with Demarco Murray and now it will be with Lewis. Because of his skill set, Lewis may be the primary receiving back for the Titans. This limits the value for both backs, so adjust accordingly in your draft.

Titans | Dion Lewis officially joins Titans    Thu Mar 15, 03:34 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Dion Lewis (Patriots) officially agreed to terms with the Tennessee Titans Thursday, March 15. Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but an earlier report stated that it is a four-year deal worth $20 million.

Footballguys view: A curious move by the Titans. Not because Lewis is a bad player, of course he's not, but because they have Derrick Henry already on the roster. Fantasy owners waiting for Henry to get a starter's workload as the bellcow are disappointed with this transaction. Henry and Lewis will mix in to some form of RBBC in 2018.

Titans | Dion Lewis headed for Tennessee    Tue Mar 13, 09:23 PM

Free-agent RB Dion Lewis (Patriots) intends to sign a four-year deal with the Tennessee Titans, sources said Tuesday, March 13.

Footballguys view: Derrick Henry's fantasy owners are upset with this news. Lewis will work in a RBBC with Henry in 2018, and that complicates things for fantasy owners. He's more than just a change-of-pace back, Lewis can have great success toting the rock. We hope this doesn't turn into some sort of 'hot hand' approach in Tennessee.

The Indianapolis Colts are reportedly 'in' on New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Dion Lewis, according to NBC Sports Boston's Michael Giardi.

Footballguys view: The Colts could use a back like Lewis. He is one of the best all-purpose backs in the game and doesn't have to come off the field during passing downs. We're all for the Colts putting more weapons around QB Andrew Luck.

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB Dion Lewis is expected to receive interest from the New York Jets, Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts in free agency this week, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, who also mentions the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders as potential suitors.

Footballguys view: Lewis is arguably the best back on the market. His all-purpose skill set is attractive to teams, especially as the game is evolving to the middle of the field. Guys like Lewis can create mismatches every time he's on the field as a receiver. Oh yeah, he's also a capable runner between the tackles.
