Colts | Three players work out    Fri Dec 5, 03:23 AM

The Indianapolis Colts worked out free-agent RB Mikel Leshoure (Lions), CB Ellis Lankster (Jets) and WR Kadron Boone (LSU).

Footballguys view: Leshoure has failed to catch on after the Lions released him. The question is whether he can get all the way back to the form that made him a second round pick. If Trent Richardson's hamstring takes him out of action down the stretch, Leshoure might get a phone call.

Broncos | Mikel Leshoure working out    Tue Oct 7, 04:23 PM

Free-agent RB Mikel Leshoure is working out for the Denver Broncos Tuesday, Oct. 7, along with several other running backs.

Footballguys view: Klis said in an interview with Cecil Lammey on ESPN Denver that any back that might be signed would not be considered for the starting job--only as veteran insurance. There's a battle brewing in Denver between Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson for the starting job. Many speculate that Anderson could be the starter while Hillman plays a backup role, but anything is possible with John Fox.

Colts | Two in for tryout    Thu Sep 11, 09:14 AM

Free-agent RB Mikel Leshoure (Lions) and LB Chidera Uzo-Diribe tried out for the Indianapolis Colts this week.

Footballguys view: Leshoure was uninspiring while he was with the Lions but a change of venue might help him out. The Colts run game isn't good, so he would get a chance to carry the ball behind Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw, possibly stealing carries from both.

Colts | Mikel Leshoure to visit    Thu Sep 4, 02:47 PM

Free-agent RB Mikel Leshoure (Lions) is scheduled to meet with the Indianapolis Colts.

Footballguys view: Great, just what the Colts need--another bust at running back. Leshoure wasn't all that exciting in Detroit but the Colts have some big issues in the backfield, especially if (when?) Trent Richardson continues to struggle.

Lions | Shopping Mikel Leshoure?    Sat Aug 9, 10:18 PM

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure has been seeing snaps with the first-team offense throughout training camp but is expected to be fourth on the depth chart when the season begins. Justin Rogers of MLive.com believes the team is trying to showcase Leshoure to other teams with the hope of working out a trade.

Footballguys view: Leshoure has not lived up to his potential as a pro. Injuries and inconsistencies have prevented him from being the asset the Lions envisioned when they selected him in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft. His eight carries for 31 yards in the preseason opener against the Browns isn't going to exactly light up the phone lines. Leshoure may just end up getting cut if the Lions can't find any trade partners.

Lions | Mikel Leshourse expected to compete    Wed Jul 23, 10:18 PM

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure is currently believed to be the fourth tailback on the club behind RBs Reggie Bush, Joique Bell and Theo Riddick heading into training camp and the preseason, but general manager Martin Mayhew expects Leshoure to compete for snaps. The team will use an offense similar to the New Orleans Saints, and they occasionally used a fourth tailback.

Footballguys view: Leshoure still has natural talent. Injuries and inconsistencies have plagued his pro career. This could be his final year with the Lions, and he may need a fresh start to get the most out of his skill set.

Lions | OTA participant update    Thu Jun 12, 04:41 PM

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (undisclosed), RB Joique Bell (knee), RB Mikel Leshoure (undisclosed), WR Kevin Ogletree (undisclosed), DE Ziggy Ansah (shoulder) and OG Rob Sims (undisclosed) were present, but did not participate in organized team activities Thursday, June 12. WR T.J. Jones (undisclosed), LB Stephen Tulloch (undisclosed) and CB Chris Houston (toe) were absent from Lions' OTAs.

Footballguys view: A lot of guys getting some rest in, but nothing to worry about for the most part. Bell is on pace to be at training camp, and Tate will be there for sure. Ansah is on track for Week 1, as will Sims. Houston may miss some of training camp, but is expected for the first week as well.

Lions | Mikel Leshoure expects more carries    Fri Jun 6, 05:21 PM

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure expects to have a bigger role in the offense than he did last season. Leshoure has altered his diet, arriving at camp leaner, which he feels has given him some extra pop.

Footballguys view: Leshoure will have a bigger role than last year if he is even active on game days. If Joique Bell's mystery knee issue appears to be a problem in August, we might monitor for Leshoure, but for now we wouldn't be surprised if he has the same fate as fellow 2011 second-round pick Ryan Williams and ends up not making it to the end of his rookie contract.

Lions | Mikel Leshoure excited about a fresh start    Mon May 26, 09:57 AM

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure is hopeful the offseason coaching changes will provide new opportunities in 2014. Leshoure was a healthy scratch 13 times in 2013, after leading the Lions in rushing the prior season. Lions offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi comes from a New Orleans Saints offense that rotated their running backs frequently, which Leshoure noted has him optimistic about his chance to earn playing time.

Footballguys view: Dynasty owners should not give up on Leshoure just yet. Injuries derailed his career early, then he fell out of favor with the former offensive staff. We'll see if he can stay healthy and impress Lombardi to earn more playing time with Reggie Bush and Joique Bell.

Lions | Mikel Leshoure absent    Fri Apr 25, 09:05 AM

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure missed the final two days of minicamp due to a personal issue.

Footballguys view: The team was well aware of the reasons for Leshoure's absence. He's the third back on the depth chart behind Reggie Bush and Joique Bell. Leshoure may not get much of an opportunity to showcase what he can do in 2014.

Lions | Intend to keep Mikel Leshoure    Mon Mar 24, 03:49 PM

The Detroit Lions intend to keep RB Mikel Leshoure on the roster next season.

Lions | Mikel Leshoure could get bigger role    Thu Feb 27, 09:57 PM

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said RB Mikel Leshoure could get a bigger role under offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, because the New Orleans Saints used multiple running backs when Lombardi coached there.

Footballguys view: Leshoure has been a disappointment during his pro career. Injuries and inconsistencies have held him back, but his career may get a slight rejuvenation in the team's new offense. We're not holding our breath, but at least this gives Leshoure a bit more cache in super deep dynasty leagues.

The Detroit Lions have declared TE Brandon Pettigrew, CB Chris Houston, QB Kellen Moore, OG Leroy Harris, RB Mikel Leshoure, CB Rashean Mathis, C Rodney Austin inactive for Week 16.

Lions | Joique Bell limited    Wed Oct 16, 06:01 PM

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ribs) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 16. Bell is still dealing with pain and felt a rib 'pop' in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns. X-rays on his ribs came back negative.

Footballguys view: Bell wanted to test his ribs Wednesday and will try using a chest protector in practice on Thursday. He will likely wear the extra guard in Week 7 if he plays. If he doesn't play, then Mikel Leshoure will likely be active and serve as the backup behind Reggie Bush.

The Detroit Lions have declared WR Calvin Johnson, CB Jonte Green, QB Kellen Moore, OT LaAdrian Waddle, OG Leroy Harris, RB Mikel Leshoure, WR Nate Burleson inactive for Week 5.

Footballguys view: No one in the Lions' passing game gets a big enough bump to consider them more than a what the heck flex, but Joique Bell should get even more targets, and Matthew Stafford's status definitely takes a big hit. This is terrible timing as the Lions attempt to complete a sweep of the first run through their NFC North opponents.

Lions | Not trying to trade Mikel Leshoure    Wed Sep 25, 05:06 PM

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has made it clear that the organization is not looking to trade RB Mikel Leshoure, despite not using him at all this year. Leshoure is frustrated with his role on the team but isn't requesting a trade at the moment. 'It's frustrating, because you know you could be out there to help the team,' Leshoure said. 'I feel like I'm better than a reserve player, and I have more to give than that, but that's my role now and that's what I'm taking.'

Footballguys view: If the Lions got the right offer for Leshoure then they'd deal him. Not many teams would be willing to part with much as Leshoure has been a career underachiever. He's got talent but may not ever be the same after the Achilles' injury that cut his 2011 rookie season short.

Lions | Mikel Leshoure frustrated with role    Wed Sep 25, 03:30 PM

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure admitted that he is frustrated with his role on the team after being active for the first time in Week 3 but not playing a single snap. 'I feel like I could have a better role, definitely,' Leshoure said. 'Am I upset? It's a little frustrating, like I said before, because I know I could help. But that type of stuff is out of my hands.' He stopped short of saying that he'd like to be traded, however.

Footballguys view: It wouldn't be a surprise to see Leshoure traded. The real question becomes; what could the Lions get for him? He's been a career underachiever and hasn't looked the same since an Achilles' injury cut his rookie season of 2011 short.

Lions | Receiving interest in Mikel Leshoure    Sun Sep 22, 12:18 PM

The Detroit Lions have received calls from other teams interested in acquiring RB Mikel Leshoure but are hesitant to trade him at this point.

Lions | Theo Riddick could see considerable playing time    Fri Sep 20, 06:04 PM

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell will slide into the leading running back role if RB Reggie Bush (knee) doesn't play in Week 3 against the Washington Redskins. Rookie RB Theo Riddick could then leapfrog RB Mikel Leshoure to be Bell's primary backup. Riddick was the third back in each of the team's first two games while Leshoure was a healthy inactive. Riddick has an advantage because he provides the team with special teams play. 'We drafted Theo to come in and have some of the effect that maybe a Reggie might do,' offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said. 'We were really happy with him doing those things for us in the preseason. If he were called upon, we have all the confidence in the world that he can help us.' Riddick doesn't have a touch this year, but he has experience playing in the slot in college.

Footballguys view: Riddick is a former wide receiver who has a similar skillset to Bush. He has potential value in PPR leagues if Bush and Bell go down. We have seen more unlikely backs make a difference in fantasy football before. File Riddick's name away.

The Detroit Lions have declared DL Nick Fairley, RB Mikel Leshoure, WR Ryan Broyles, OT Jason Fox, FS Don Carey, QB Kellen Moore and OG Leroy Harris inactive for Week 2.

Lions | Mikel Leshoure open to trade    Sun Sep 15, 10:39 AM

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure has accepted the backup role with the team, but is open to being traded to a team that would rely on him as more than a backup running back.

Footballguys view: If the Lions don't see it fit to make Leshoure active on gamedays, it's hard to see another team making him more than a backup. Perhaps the Colts would be interested, but we wouldn't be rushing out to get Leshoure on this news.

The Detroit Lions have declared DL Devin Taylor, CB Jonte Green, QB Kellen Moore, OT LaAdrian Waddle, OG Leroy Harris, RB Mikel Leshoure, WR Ryan Broyles inactive for Week 1.

Footballguys view: Leshoure goes from strong TD maker to inactive in one year with the addition of Reggie Bush and growth of Joique Bell. He can be dropped in redraft leagues. Broyles is going to be taking it slow coming back from his second ACL tear. 2012 UDFA Patrick Edwards will get ample opportunity to shine with Broyles out this week.

Lions | Joique Bell looking good    Fri Aug 23, 04:12 PM

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell had 101 yards of total offense on seven touches in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 22, playing mostly in the second half. ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert clearly thinks Bell has the upper hand on the No. 2 running back job over RB Mikel Leshoure.

Footballguys view: Bell could get goal-line carries and a few drives to himself to give him marginal flex value in PPR leagues, but if Reggie Bush goes down, look out. Bell is one of the highest upside backup running backs in the league. He's a nice pick in the double digit rounds.

Lions | Mikel Leshoure buried on depth chart    Fri Aug 16, 10:40 AM

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure received one carry in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 15.

Footballguys view: Leshoure, like fellow second-round pick Ryan Williams, is looking like he'll never be the back we saw in college that made him such a high pick. It's time to move on in shallow dynasty leagues. Joique Bell is the clear backup and Lions back to target in the late rounds.

Lions | Hope Mikel Leshoure regains burst    Wed Aug 7, 12:54 AM

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (Achilles', hamstring) said Tuesday, Aug. 6, that he didn't have burst, but it had nothing to do with his Achilles' injury from 2011. He suffered a hamstring injury toward the end of the Week 3 game last year, and it lingered with him all season. He is confident his legs are back, and he is out to prove why the team invested a second-round pick on him back in 2011. 'I feel lighter and feel a little more of a burst,' Leshoure said. 'I don't know if that's from the weight (he's dropped five pounds and is currently at 229 points) or the fact it's a year under my belt and I have my legs back.'

Footballguys view: Leshoure has not been impressive during his short time in the NFL. We'll see if he can finally show the burst he had coming out of Illinois. Right now we prefer Joique Bell as the backup RB behind Reggie Bush.

Lions | RB Bush knows the playbook    Sun Jun 23, 06:44 PM

Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush is feeling good about his knowledge of the team's playbook. "It's pretty similar," Bush said. "This playbook, from a terminology standpoint, is a little easier to learn, and probably just because I've been in the league going on eight years now. I know pretty much everything. It's just different terminology. It's pretty easy for me to pick up now."

Footballguys view: Bush is a perfect fit for the Lions offense. His big play ability should be accentuated in that high powered offense. In PPR leagues we wouldn't be surprised to see Bush finish the season as a top 10 fantasy RB.

Lions | Leshoure needs to be more consistent    Mon Jun 17, 05:26 PM

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure knows that he needs to be more consistent this year. "I've just got to get healthy," Leshoure said. "Last year I was just dealing with a lot of things, nagging injuries weren't where they needed to be coming off the first year of my injuries. I've just got to get healthy and consistency will come when you're healthy."

Footballguys view: Leshoure has already lost his job as the starter to free agent addition Reggie Bush. If he doesn't stay healthy and provide a more consistent production level he may lose his backup job to Joique Bell.

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (hamstring) was able to have limited participation during organized team activities Monday, June 4. He said he is trying to manage his lingering hamstring injury in hopes of being 100 percent once training camp begins.

Footballguys view: Leshoure needs to be careful with this hamstring injury. He's already lost the starting job to free agent addition Reggie Bush. If he misses time in training camp he could lose his backup job to Joique Bell.

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said he does not think RB Mikel Leshoure (hamstring) is dealing with a long-term injury.

Footballguys view: Schwartz said the Lions are being cautious with Leshoure because they do not want him to rush him back before he's ready. Leshoure has durability issues in the past and is competing with Joique Bell for the backup job behind Reggie Bush.

Lions | Mikel Leshoure still sitting out     Wed May 29, 02:41 PM

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (hamstring) did not participate in organized team activities Wednesday, May 29, because of a lingering hamstring injury. Head coach Jim Schwartz did not express a lot of concern about the injury but said the injury has taken longer to heal than the team expected.

Footballguys view: Leshoure already lost the job as the team's featured runner. They brought in Reggie Bush via free agency to be their lead back. With this injury he's in danger of losing the backup job to Joique Bell.

Lions | Reggie Bush comfortable in offense    Fri May 17, 01:01 PM

Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush is comfortable in the team's offense, and he's comparing it to the days when he was with the New Orleans Saints. 'I've always enjoyed being in the position that I am and doing what I do, being able to split out wide and catch balls so it's great that offenses are going toward that direction,' Bush said.

Footballguys view: The Lions were a perfect landing spot for Bush. His big play ability in that high octane offense is a great fit. Over the last two years Bush has finished as the 13th and 14th best RB in fantasy football. Right now his ADP is RB17 and he's going off the board at the end of round two.

Lions | Mikel Leshoure did not face many eight-man fronts    Thu May 9, 02:28 PM

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure faced an eight-man defensive front in only 6.05 percent of his carries last season, which is less than any other rusher with at least 100 carries.

Footballguys view: This is not good news for Leshoure and further emphasizes why the team sees him more as a backup, short-yardage back. Leshoure will see time behind Reggie Bush in 2013 but could be on the field in goalline situations because of his size.

Lions | Three running backs will have a role    Tue Mar 26, 02:07 PM

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said all three of the teams running backs, Reggie Bush, Mikel Leshoure, and Joique Bell, will have a role in 2013. 'Joique runs the ball a little bit different than Mikel, but they both run a little bit different and present different things than Reggie, and I think that combination of guys is good. People like to say running back by committee and things like that, but each guy will have a role. There will be plenty of touches on the offense for everybody.'

Footballguys view: Right now fantasy owners should move forward considering Bush as the top RB in Detroit. He'll have RB2 fantasy value as the team's lead back and top receiving threat at the position. Leshoure gives the team a power element and could also contribute on short yardage and goalline situations. Bell is a do everything back with the least amount of fantasy value of the trio.

'We have a lot of confidence in both of those guys (Bell and Leshoure),' Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said. 'Both of those guys are going to be good players that we continue to move forward with, and they all have unique skill sets.

Footballguys view: The Lions wanted to add a big play element to their RB corps and that's why they made the move to add Reggie Bush in free agency. Leshoure and Bell will still have a role but it will be a smaller one now that Bush is on the roster.
