The Kansas City Chiefs released CB Jackie Bates, TE Tom Crabtree, DE Dion Gales, DE Robert Greenwood, G Darryl Harris, WR Taurus Johnson, WR Ashley Lelie, DT Derek Lokey, S Bernard Pollard, S Ricky Price, LB Zach Thomas, RB Javarris Williams and WR Rodney Wright.
| Footballguys view: The rookie receiver from South Florida, Taurus Johnson, would make for a good developmental player to add to the practice squad. He has good size, and ball tracking ability, but he needs to become a more consistent player. Zach Thomas may be considering retirement now that he's been released. Javarris Williams runs with good power, a low center of gravity, and picks up his feet properly when running through trash at the line of scrimmage. He's not very fast, and lacks a good initial burst, but the Chiefs may like his potential as a short-yardage runner enough to keep him around on the practice squad. |

Randy Covitz, of The Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs WR Ashley Lelie caught a team-high four receptions for 52 yards in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.

Josh Looney, from KCChiefs.com, reports the Chiefs have officially signed the veteran wideout Ashley Lelie, and he is expected to participate in this morning's practice. WR Jeff Webb was released to make room for Lelie.
| Footballguys view: The team is clearly not happy with their current crop of wide receivers, and that's why we've seen them sign Amani Toomer and Ashley Lelie. The Toomer signing makes sense, because he still has something left in the tank. However, this Lelie signing appears to be an act of desperation. We can't help but think a player like Matt Jones would have a higher upside than Lelie at this point in their careers. |

James Walker, from ESPN.com, reports now that Suggs is under contract expect the Ravens to immediately shift their focus to the wide receivers in an attempt to fill a huge void Mason left behind.
| Footballguys view: There are a number of different directions the Ravens could go, and they must now be exploring all their options. Marvin Harrison, Matt Jones, Plaxico Burress, Ashley Lelie, Jerry Porter, and Amani Toomer could all be considered as well as possibly trading for Anquan Boldin, Braylon Edwards, or Brandon Marshall. The Ravens are known to avoid players with character concerns but they may have to make an exception in this situation. |

John Harris, of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers met with free-agent WR Ashley Lelie (Raiders) Monday, April 27, and could sign him, according to agent Peter Schaffer. 'He had a great visit. The Steelers and I are going to continue to have open dialogue,' Schaffer said. 'I think there's some mutual interest, and we're going to keep discussing it.'
| Footballguys view: Ashley Lelie in a Steelers uniform isn't anything to get excited about. He would be 5th on the depth chart - at best - to start training camp. With Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, Limas Sweed, and rookie Mike Wallace in front of him it's doubtful that he would have many passes thrown his way. We'll see if the World Champions actually sign the one-route receiver. |
