Buccaneers | Sign Dan LeFevour    Tue Apr 19, 06:04 PM

Free-agent QB Dan LeFevour (Jaguars) signed an undisclosed deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tuesday, April 19.

Footballguys view: A sixth-round pick (Bears) in the 2010 NFL draft, LeFevour has spent the last few seasons in the CFL..most recently with the Montreal Alouettes. For his final three years at Central Michigan (where his favorite target was Antonio Brown), LeFevour played under Offensive Coordinator Mike Bajakian, now Tampa Bay's quarterbacks coach.

Colts | More roster moves    Tue Nov 8, 07:27 PM

The Indianapolis Colts signed free-agent CB Morgan Trent (Bengals) and QB Dan LeFevour (Bengals) and promoted TE Mike McNeill from the practice squad Tuesday, Nov. 8. In corresponding moves, the team waived DB Prince Miller and DL Daniel Muir and placed OG Seth Olsen (hand) on the Injured Reserve.

Footballguys view: With the problems at the QB position it wouldn't surprise us to see a change. Curtis Painter is the starter for now, but Dan Orlovsky or LeFevour could end up on the field before the season is over.

Giants | May look to add Dan LeFevour to practice squad    Sat Sep 17, 01:58 PM

The New York Giants may consider signing free-agent QB Dan LeFevour (Bengals) to their practice squad at some point next week.

Footballguys view: Interesting move here by the Giants if it comes through. LeFevour has been bounced from two teams (Bears, Bengals) in two years but has upside as a developmental QB.

Bengals | Make roster moves    Tue Sep 6, 04:11 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals signed free-agent CB Rico Murray (Bengals) and QB Zac Robinson (Lions) to undisclosed deals Tuesday, Sept. 6, and released QB Dan LeFevour from the practice squad.

Footballguys view: Robinson is a quality developmental QB who the Bengals saw as a better option over LeFevour. He has high football intelligence and could be a good fit for the Jay Gruden system. Robinson doesn't have a rocket arm, but is a rhythm passer who understands what a defense is trying to do.

The Cincinnati Bengals have signed FB James Develin, LB Dequin Evans, CB Brandon Ghee, WR Andrew Hawkins, QB Dan LeFevour, OT Matthew O'Donnell and DT Jason Shirley to their practice squad.

Footballguys view: LeFevour will still continue to be a developmental QB for the Bengals on the practice squad. Hawkins could work his way onto the active roster because of his quickness and ability as a return man.

The team also terminated the contracts of DE Victor Adeyanju and CB Jonathan Wade.

Bengals | May only keep two quarterbacks    Fri Aug 26, 01:36 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals played just two quarterbacks -- Andy Dalton and Bruce Gradkowski -- Thursday, Aug. 25, in their third preseason game. It appears the team is considering entering the season with just two quarterbacks on roster. Backup QB Jordan Palmer appears to be the odd man out if they do keep three, as he has not played in the past two preseason games. QB Dan LeFevour would likely be the third option if the Bengals choose to retain three signal callers.

Footballguys view: Gradkowski is a gamer, but he has not proven to be durable over the course of his career. A decision to keep only two QBs could come back to haunt the Bengals unless they just don't think LeFevour or Palmer fit in offensive coordinator Jay Gruden's scheme.

Bengals | Interested in Terrelle Pryor?    Mon Aug 22, 10:47 AM

The Cincinnati Bengals might consider former Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor in the league supplemental draft after the lackluster performance of QBs Jordan Palmer and Dan LeFevour in training camp. Pryor could serve as a No. 3 quarterback who could run some Wildcat.

Footballguys view: Taking Pryor seems like a move the Bengals would make. There's reportedly five teams interested in selecting Pryor in the Supplemental Draft. Cincinnati would have to compete with teams like the Raiders, Seahawks, Dolphins, and Bills for Pryor's services.

Bengals | Bruce Gradkowski veteran mentor for young QBs    Thu Jul 28, 12:25 AM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Bruce Gradkowski provides the Bengals with a veteran quarterback to help mentor rookie QB Andy Dalton. Gradkowski has experience with offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, as the two spent time together with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bengals will enter training camp with Dalton, Gradkowski, Jordan Palmer and Dan LeFevour at quarterback, which marks the first time since 2008 they've entered camp with more than three quarterbacks.

Footballguys view: We have a feeling both Palmer brothers will not be playing for the Bengals this year. Gradkowski gives the team veteran insurance in case Dalton is hurt or simply isn't ready to be the starter. He could also help groom LeFevour who has good upside and a similar skill set.

Bengals | Rookie QB Dalton could open camp as starter    Fri Jul 15, 07:29 PM

Geoff Hobson, from Bengals.com, believes rookie QB Andy Dalton will open as the starter in training camp. However, the camp starter doesn't necessarily mean he'll begin the season as the starter.

Footballguys view: Bengals OC Jay Gruden is very excited to work with Dalton and the team will give him every opportunity to win the job for good in camp. They have Jordan Palmer and Dan LeFevour on the roster but may add another veteran free agent QB to the mix.

Bengals | QB LeFevour could surprise in camp    Fri Jun 24, 01:34 PM

Cecil Lammey, NFL Insider for FRSN and senior writer at Footballguys.com, reports via Twitter that according to sources close to the team Bengals second-year QB Dan LeFevour could surprise some in training camp.

Footballguys view: LeFevour played in the spread offense at Central Michigan and could excel under the guidance of new offensive coordinator Jay Gruden. The team selected Andy Dalton in the second-round of the 2011 NFL Draft to be their QB of the future, but LeFevour may be a nice developmental prospect himself. We say LeFevour is a 'hold' in deep dynasty leagues.

Bengals | Could go to camp with only 3 QBs    Tue May 10, 12:24 PM

Geoff Hobson, from Bengals.com, speculates the team could enter training camp with only three quarterbacks on the roster. Currently they have Jordan Palmer, Dan LeFevour, and rookie Andy Dalton on their depth chart.

Footballguys view: The Bengals could add a veteran when free agency is allowed because they have a serious lack of experience at the most important position. Some of the most likely candidates the team could add are Rex Grossman, Charlie Frye, or Jim Sorgi.

Bengals | Dan LeFevour claimed    Sun Sep 5, 02:21 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals have announced they have claimed free-agent QB Dan LeFevour (Bengals) off waivers.

Footballguys view: A fine addition for the Bengals here. LeFevour has good upside if he can develop on his raw skill set. He's very athletic (a former high school running back) and can make plays with his arm or his feet. He'll serve as the third-string quarterback behind the Palmer brothers Carson and Jordan.

Bears | Dan LeFevour, two others released    Sat Sep 4, 08:32 PM

The Chicago Bears have offered free-agent QB Todd Collins (Redskins) a contract, reports Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune, according to a league source. Collins is taking a day to make a decision. The Bears are looking for a quarterback with QB Caleb Hanie (shoulder) injured and QB Dan LeFevour a long shot to make the team.

Bears | Rookie QB LeFevour will be interesting to watch in camp    Sat Jul 17, 03:54 PM

Brad Biggs, from the Chicago Tribune, reports sixth-round pick Dan LeFevour should be interesting to watch in training camp, where his opportunity (and reps) will be bountiful.

Footballguys view: LeFevour could be the next big quarterback to come from the sixth-round, and under Mike Martz he could really excel. We love his quick decision making, moxie, toughness, scrambling ability, and leadership qualities. Jay Cutler is the Bears franchise quarterback, but LeFevour could develop into a quality backup (or better) with time and experience.

Bears | Contract update: Dan LeFevour    Mon May 24, 11:28 PM

Chicago Bears QB Dan LeFevour received a $107,673 signing bonus with his four-year contract, making the base value of his deal about $1.98 million, reports Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune. An escalator for 2013 can push the value of the deal to $2.63 million.

Footballguys view: Dan LeFevour has the perfect skill set to succeed in a Mike Martz system, but will likely take a year or two to develop.

Bears | LeFevour could adapt to Martz offense    Sun May 23, 08:07 PM

Sean Jensen, from the Chicago Sun-Times, reports rookie QB Dan LeFevour got very few meaningful snaps. But, Jensen does recall a few nice passes from the rookie QB. LeFevour looks like he might be able to adapt to Martz's offense -- down the road.

Footballguys view: LeFevour has the perfect skill set to run a Mike Martz offense. He can make quick decisions with the football, and get the ball into the hands of his playmakers on offense right away. When the play breaks down LeFevour (a former high school running back) can elude defenders and pick up significant yards with his feet. The rookie QB also does a good job of 'climbing the ladder' in the pocket to avoid pressure. LeFevour may be the next sixth-round quarterback to transform into a star, but it's going to take a few years for him to develop.

Bears | Rookie QB LeFevour will be brought along slowly    Sat May 22, 04:42 PM

Brad Biggs, from the Chicago Tribune, reports quarterback Dan LeFevour, the sixth-round draft pick from Central Michigan, gets work in drills but for the most part when it comes to 7-on-7 and full squad drills, the plan is for him to learn from observation. "Pretty hard to judge," offensive coordinator Mike Martz said. "He's a rookie, we don't give him much right now. He's lucky to find the huddle from the sideline right now, so that's kind of the way it goes really but he's very promising. (I) like his ability and he's really a student of the game. He's worked hard at learning what we do." Martz is notorious for being extremely demanding of his quarterbacks and he doesn't want to push LeFevour too hard or too far. The rookies just returned to Halas Hall on Monday of this week and it takes a while to bring players along, especially at the game's most challenging position. "The worst thing we could do right now is put him in there and give him a bunch of plays," Martz said. "We'd like to have him be a spectator as much as possible for a while and (bring him along) because you can kind of break a guy's confidence, too, so we're very careful about how much we give him."

Footballguys view: LeFevour has the perfect skill set to run a Mike Martz offense. While he doesn't have the strongest arm, he is very adept at making quick decisions with the football. The former high school running back can also pick up yards with his feet when the play breaks down. With Jay Cutler under center there's no reason for the Bears to rush LeFevour's development. He finished his college career with more touchdowns than any other player in NCAA history, and could be a star in the making if he reaches his full potential.

Panthers | NFL Draft possibilities    Thu Apr 15, 12:05 PM

The Carolina Panthers have drafted just one quarterback in the last eight years - Louisville's Stefan Le Flors - during the tenures of general manager Marty Hurney and head coach John Fox. The Panthers may not use their first pick this year, the 48th overall selection, on a quarterback because they also have pressing needs on the defensive line and at wide receiver. If they do choose a quarterback in the second round, it is likely to be Tim Tebow (Florida), Colt McCoy (Texas) or possibly Tony Pike (Cincinnati). QB Dan LeFevour (Central Michigan) could be available to them in the third or fourth round.

Footballguys view: Out of this group of quarterbacks, Dan LeFevour stands out as the best value. Tim Tebow is likely going to be a first-round pick, Colt McCoy could be an early second-round pick, and Tony Pike doesn't have the upside that LeFevour does. At Central Michigan LeFevour showcased his passing ability, and finished his college career with more touchdowns (150) than anyone else in Division I history. A former high school running back, LeFevour is not afraid to pull the ball down and pick up tough yards with his feet. His arm is strong enough to make all the NFL throws, and he's currently seen as a third-round pick with high upside.

Titans | L. Brown, LeFevour to visit    Thu Apr 1, 01:23 PM

Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports the Tennessee Titans are scheduled to meet with Troy University QB Levi Brown and Central Michigan QB Dan LeFevour.

Footballguys view: Levi Brown put up big numbers against a lower level of competition, but is seen as nothing more than a career backup by most scouts. LeFevour is an athletic quarterback that finished his career with more touchdowns than any other player in Division-I history. He could learn as a backup quarterback initially, but has starter potential in the NFL.

Mary Kay Cabot, of the Cleveland Browns, reports the Cleveland Browns were represented at Central Michigan QB Dan LeFevour's Pro Day Wednesday, March 24.

Footballguys view: The Browns are not done making moves at quarterback. They've already moved Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson, having replaced them with Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace. Now they're looking at quarterbacks they could select in the second- or third-round of the 2010 NFL Draft. LeFevour finished his career with the most touchdowns (150) of any player to ever play in Division I. The former high school running back can make plays with his feet and his arm, but must develop as a dropback passer after spending most of his career playing out of the shotgun.

Footballguys view: Both Brown and LeFevour have bright futures ahead of them in the NFL. LeFevour has moxie, leadership, scrambling ability, and enough of an arm to make all the NFL throws. He could wind up being one of the best quarterbacks in this draft class if he develops properly.
