'It feels great, especially to be back with the level of defense that Baltimore is,' Kemoeatu said. He was out of football last year due to injury and weight issues.

Baltimore Ravens DT Ma'ake Kemoeatu has dropped 70 pounds over the last year in hopes of earning a final roster spot. 'Coach Harbaugh has always talked about making sacrifices. I had to do what I had to do to make sacrifices to get on the team,' Kemoeatu said. 'I still have a long road ahead of me to make the team and it's going to take more sacrifices, coming in early in the morning and getting an extra workout in here and there, get a little quicker and faster. I have to sacrifice the next four weeks to make the team.'

He weighed 415 pounds when he worked out for the team the first time and struggled to finish the workout. He would like to lose another 25 to 30 pounds before the start of the regular season.

Darin Gantt, of the Rock Hill Herald, reports Carolina Panthers DL Ma'ake Kemoeatu (Achilles') has begun a long rehab process after last year's torn Achilles' tendon. While the initial surgery went well, Kemoeatu needed a secondary procedure to help the wound heal properly. His agent, Ken Vierra, said last week that Kemoeatu was walking on a treadmill and doing exercises with resistance. He's not quite ready to jog on a treadmill, and may not be for several weeks. The goal is for Kemoeatu to be well enough to participate in training camp.

Kemoeatu needed season-ending surgery in August to repair a torn Achilles', and he then needed a skin graft after the scar didn't heal as planned. He may need another skin graft this week.

Footballguys view: The Panthers problems at DT could cause a fantasy ripple effect of hurting the running game because opponents can control the clock, hurting Jon Beason because more blockers get to the second level, and helping the passing game numbers because the Panthers can't control the game as easily themselves and are forced to resort to the pass earlier than they want to.
