Patriots | Still interested in Dustin Keller    Wed Jun 11, 04:40 PM

The New England Patriots have stayed in touch with free-agent TE Dustin Keller (Dolphins) but no deal is close at this point, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Patriots need more tight end depth. They have no idea when Gronkowski will be back and no idea if he can stay healthy if he is. This is why guys like Keller and Jermichael Finley have been in camp. Expect them to add a guy before camp, though which one is hard to say--whichever one is healthier is our guess. Whomever it is could contribute as a TE2 or bench depth on a fantasy roster given how the Pats use their tight ends.

Patriots | Could add another tight end    Mon Jun 9, 05:37 PM

The New England Patriots may still in play for free-agents TE Jermichael Finley (Packers) and TE Dustin Keller (Dolphins), even though they signed TE Kyle Auffray Monday, June 9.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. They've been looking for tight end help since Aaron Hernandez got in trouble with the law. The team wants to find a move tight end to use alongside Rob Gronkowski. Finley or Keller could fit that role, but both have injury concerns.

Redskins | Unlikely to pursue top free agent TEs    Wed Jun 4, 02:10 PM

The Washington Redskins likely will not show interest in free-agent TEs Dustin Keller (Dolphins) and Jermichael Finley (Packers) this offseason.

Footballguys view: Washington doesn't need help at the TE position so long as Jordan Reed is healthy. Before he got hurt last year, Reed looked good as a rookie. He's athletic and creates mismatches every time he's on the field.

Patriots | Still could pursue Dustin Keller    Sat May 17, 10:22 PM

The New England Patriots did not draft a tight end, and could still pursue free agent TE Dustin Keller (Dolphins) if his health checks out. He is making his way back from a serious knee injury.

Footballguys view: Keller's talent has never been a question, but he's failed to play up to his potential as a pro because of injury and inconsistency. The Patriots are still looking for a move tight end to play alongside Rob Gronkowski.

Patriots | Dustin Keller leaves without deal    Thu May 1, 10:53 AM

Free-agent TE Dustin Keller (Dolphins) left the New England Patriots' facility without a deal.

Footballguys view: We don't quite know the status of Keller's knee, and the Patriots are probably just checking things out until they have a firmer grip on Gronkowski's status. Keller never achieved his potential with the Jets and didn't get a chance before he was dry-gulched with the Dolphins last year and ended up on IR. One would imagine he'd be a nice fit with Tom Brady throwing the ball if he's healthy.

NFL | Dustin Keller recovered from injury    Wed Apr 30, 12:05 PM

Free-agent TE Dustin Keller (knee) has recovered from the serious knee injury he suffered during the preseason and is working his way back into game shape, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Keller is a talented player who has never quite played up to his potential as a pro. We'll see if he can draw some interest from teams once he's back in football shape.

Patriots | Dustin Keller visiting    Wed Apr 30, 10:56 AM

The New England Patriots are visiting with free-agent TE Dustin Keller (Dolphins) Wednesday, April 30. Keller (knee) is coming off of a significant knee injury in which he tore the anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament and posterior cruciate ligament.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Keller has talent as a move tight end if healthy. Staying healthy has been a problem for him throughout his entire pro career. We could see the Patriots adding Keller for a cheap, one-year deal if he passes a physical.

Patriots | Dustin Keller could be option    Mon Apr 14, 03:36 PM

The New England Patriots could show interest in free-agent TE Dustin Keller (Dolphins) at some point this offseason.

Footballguys view: The Patriots need to find additional tight end help. Keller could be a decent addition if healthy. With his durability concerns we're likely to see Keller signed to a one-year deal that is incentive laden.

Dolphins | Dustin Keller could return    Wed Mar 26, 04:18 PM

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin is not ruling out the possibility of the team re-signing free-agent TE Dustin Keller this offseason. General manager Dennis Hickey said he has talked with Keller's agent but would not say if the team is interested in re-signing Keller.

Footballguys view: Keller's injury did not seem to be of the garden variety ACL tear type when he went down in the preseason, so it makes sense that no team will sign him right now. Even if he ends up on a roster, he probably won't be close to the player he was before the injury - which still wasn't a big fantasy factor to begin with.

Dolphins | Dustin Keller will be ready to play in 2014    Fri Mar 7, 08:00 PM

Eugene Parker, agent for Miami Dolphins impending free-agent TE Dustin Keller (knee), said Keller will be able to play next season after sitting out the entire 2013 season because of a serious knee injury. Parker said the Dolphins have not given any indication on if they are interested in re-signing Keller.

Footballguys view: Keller has never quite played up to his potential as a pro. We were excited to see him get a fresh start in Miami last year, but things fell apart when he suffered that knee injury. If healthy, there should be a team willing to give him a shot on a "prove it" deal.

Dolphins | Dustin Keller not expected back     Fri Feb 7, 07:51 PM

The Miami Dolphins are not expected to re-signing impending free-agent TE Dustin Keller (knee) because of the injury he is coming back from and that TE Charles Clay played well as the starting tight end this season.

Footballguys view: Keller will have to go somewhere else to prove himself in 2014. If healthy, there's going to be a few teams interested in giving him a one-year "prove it" contract.

Dolphins | More on Dustin Keller     Thu Aug 22, 03:30 PM

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins TE Dustin Keller (knee) did not suffer any nerve or cartilage damage on his season ending hit to his knee and can try to mount a comeback in 2014.

Footballguys view: A silver lining for Keller here. He's set to hit free agency in March and will get some interest on the open market if he can retain his speed and agility in the open field post-injury.

Dolphins | Dustin Keller suffers significant damage to knee    Sun Aug 18, 01:03 PM

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins TE Dustin Keller (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament and posterior cruciate ligament during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 17. Keller also suffered a dislocated knee during the game.

Footballguys view: He's done for the year and this type of injury can be career threatening. It's a huge blow to the Dolphins' offense as they were trying to upgrade the production from the TE position. We'll see guys like Michael Egnew, Charles Clay, and Dion Sims compete for the top spot now.

Dolphins | Dustin Keller out for season    Sun Aug 18, 11:22 AM

Miami Dolphins TE Dustin Keller (knee) will miss the entire 2013 season after suffering a serious knee injury during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 17.

Footballguys view: Take him off of your boards, folks. Brandon Gibson might have bench value in PPR leagues as the exclusive #3 target in this offense now. Don't look for any tight end to be fantasy relevant in the Dolphins offense this year.

Dolphins | Dustin Keller carted off    Sat Aug 17, 09:26 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Dustin Keller (knee) suffered what appeared to be an ugly right knee or leg injury in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 17, against the Houston Texans.

Footballguys view: All signs are pointing to Keller being gone for the year. Fourth-round pick Dion Sims might get a shot to start with his two-way game and big frame to rule the middle of the field. The main beneficiary here is Brandon Gibson. He should become the full-time slot receiver and could have marginal value in PPR leagues, after being completely off of the fantasy radar up to this point.

Dolphins | Spreading field, even near goal    Wed Aug 14, 08:33 PM

The Miami Dolphins have used an empty backfield setup with five players lined up as receivers, including WRs Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline, RB Lamar Miller, TE Dustin Keller and either WR Brandon Gibson or FB Charles Clay. The team even practiced with that grouping in goal line situations. 'That surprised me and I'm on the team,' Wallace said. 'If we can do that, we'll keep catching teams off guard and get a lot of mismatches we want.'

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill, Dustin Keller working well together    Sat Aug 10, 11:43 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill appears to have created chemistry with TE Dustin Keller during training camp. The two players connected on two receptions for 46 yards and one touchdown in the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 9.

Footballguys view: It's long been a theory that Dustin Keller never really reached his potential with the New York Jets more because of poor quarterback play and a lack of plays called his way. Early indications support that theory, as Keller had the chance to show off his athleticism and skill on Friday and performed. His value could heat up if he continues his strong preseason and Tannehill keeps looking for him.

Dolphins | Dion Sims working as No. 2    Fri Jul 26, 09:31 AM

Miami Dolphins TE Dion Sims is working with TE Dustin Keller in two-tight end sets Friday, July 26. He appears to be the frontrunner for that role.

Footballguys view: 2012 third-round pick Michael Egnew is glaring bust and Anthony Fasano in in Kansas City now. Sims is big, but he has former basketball player ball skills and surprising athleticism. He is worth watching in dynasty leagues.

Dolphins | Tight end rotation    Sun Jul 21, 03:20 PM

Miami Dolphins TEs Charles Clay and Dion Sims are working behind starter TE Dustin Keller. TE Michael Egnew opened camp working with the third- and fourth-team offenses.

Dolphins | Expect big things from Ryan Tannehill    Sun Jun 2, 10:13 PM

Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland predicted QB Ryan Tannehill 'is going to make a big jump this year.' Tannehill will be entering his second NFL season, and the team added plenty of weapons to help that jump, including WR Mike Wallace and TE Dustin Keller. 'He has a lot of room to grow. He's brilliantly smart. The upside is tremendous,' Ireland said.

Footballguys view: We're expecting big things from Tannehill. The team put quality weapons around him this offseason like free agent addition WR Mike Wallace. The second-year QB has a rocket arm, athleticism, and elite level pocket presence. His current ADP is QB24 and he's coming off the board at 14.01 in 12 team leagues. If he plays up to his potential then he could easily outperform that draft slot.

Dolphins | Michael Egnew works with starters    Tue May 21, 11:47 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Michael Egnew began team drills in organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday, May 21, ahead of TE Dustin Keller. Head coach Joe Philbin said Egnew earned the reps after a strong offseason.

Footballguys view: Keller was a big name free agent signing but he won't be handed the starting job. We imagine he should win the job in camp but will face competition from Egnew. Keller has upside but has yet to put it all together and play up to his potential as a pro.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill strong in practice    Tue May 21, 02:26 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill was sharp during organized team activities Tuesday, May 21. Tannehill had big passes to WRs Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace. TE Dustin Keller was impressed with Tannehill's first practice. "You would think a guy who used to play wide receiver the best thing he does is run the ball," Keller said. "But he puts the ball right on the money and he's a good decision maker, as well."

Footballguys view: The Dolphins have been searching for a real franchise QB ever since Dan Marino retired. That's what they have in second-year QB Tannehill. With the improved weapons around him (Dustin Keller, Mike Wallace) we could see Tannehill take a sizable jump in production this season.

Miami Dolphins TE Dion Sims is expected to push for playing time after dropping to 264 pounds from the 280-pound range. The team expects to use him in two-tight end sets with TE Dustin Keller. Keller isn't known to be a great blocker, and Sims will be relied upon to block.

Dolphins | Is the offense elite?    Wed Apr 24, 08:59 AM

Miami Dolphins WR Brian Hartline said he believes the team has a 'championship offense' following the additions of WRs Mike Wallace and Brandon Gibson, as well as TE Dustin Keller in the offseason. 'I think we got every move we needed to make,' Hartline said. 'We probably could add some depth at certain positions, but we've got all the pieces to the car, now we've just got to put it altogether.'

Footballguys view: This offense has potential. Fantasy owners need to recognize the firepower the Dolphins have put around QB Ryan Tannehill this offseason.

Browns | Looking for depth at TE    Sun Feb 10, 10:53 PM

Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski likes to use his tight ends in the offense, and the only option on the roster right now is TE Jordan Cameron. The team wants more depth at the position. Some potential targets might be impending free-agent TEs Dustin Keller (Jets), Fred Smith (Redskins) (Achilles') or Delanie Walker (49ers).

Footballguys view: The Browns certainly need more depth, but we'd like to see Cameron emerge as the top target. The former basketball star at USC will benefit from working with new OC Norv Turner. During his time in San Diego Turner transformed another former basketball star (Antonio Gates) into a star.
