Texans | Dalton Keene agrees to terms    Tue Aug 1, 03:39 AM

Free-agent TE Dalton Keene (Eagles) agreed to terms with the Houston Texans Monday, July 31, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Keene was just released by the Eagles last week and found a new home quickly. A former third-round pick of the Patriots, Keene is an H-back who can line up in-line at tight end, in the backfield as a Fullback, and he could even take some Wildcat snaps if asked to. He's a long-shot to make the Texans as they have a pretty crowded room at the tight end position.

Free-agent WR Auden Tate and TE Dalton Keene were signed to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad Wednesday, Sept. 7. The team also released QB Reid Sinnett and RB La'Mical Perine from the practice squad.

Footballguys view: Keene is a blocker, fullback, tight end, H-back who is tough but has battled injuries since the Patriots made him a third-round pick in 2020. Tate is a big-bodied wide receiver with a large wingspan and catch radius. We'll monitor both, but only in crazy deep dynasty formats.

His pro career has been beset by injuries over the last couple of seasons. The 2020 third-round pick could find a suitor before the start of the regular season.

New England Patriots TE Dalton Keene (undisclosed) has been limited during voluntary workouts over the last few weeks because of an undisclosed injury.

Patriots | Make-or-break year for Dalton Keene    Sun Jun 5, 04:07 PM

New England Patriots TE Dalton Keene is facing a make-or-break year, ESPN's Mike Reiss writes. Reiss also notes Keene's best bet to make the roster is as an H-back.

Footballguys view: Keene has missed most of the last two years, including all of last season, due to injuries. He's an H-back who can help as a runner or receiver. Keene has strength as a runner and versatility to move all over the formation (he was a high school QB too), but he's got to stay healthy in order to make the 53-man roster.

New England Patriots TE Dalton Keene (knee) was designated to return from the Reserve/Injured list on Wednesday, Dec. 2. The team now has a 21-day window to activate Keene or have him revert to season-ending IR.

Footballguys view: Keene is a blocking tight end/H-back/fullback when he's healthy. We'll see if the team activates him but don't expect too much from him if he does get back on the field this year. His rookie season has been set back by injury.

Patriots | Jarrett Stidham out with teammates    Sun Jul 19, 01:15 PM

New England Patriots QBs Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer have been working out with teammates this past week. WR Mohamed Sanu, WR Gunner Olszewski, RB Damien Harris and TE Dalton Keene were among the players participating in the workouts.

Footballguys view: Cam Newton was working out with Patriots free agent signing Damiere Byrd, who was his teammate in Carolina, and last week worked out with Sanu and 2019 first-round pick N'keal Harry. Stidham has a longer tenure with the team, and his familiarity with the offense and roster will be his best bet to win the starting job over Newton.

Patriots | Dalton Keene present at workouts    Thu Jul 16, 06:42 PM

New England Patriots TE Dalton Keene was seen at workouts with QBs Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer, WRs Mohamed Sanu and Gunner Olszewski, C David Andrews and FB Jakob Johnson Wednesday, July 15.

Footballguys view: Keene is the athletic h-back/move tight end in the rookie combo that Bill Belichick moved up to get in the draft this year. Devin Asiasi is the inline tight end, but he has the higher ceiling as a receiver and went earlier in the draft, making him the more attractive dynasty rookie draft target. Belichick appears to want to get back to two tight end sets as a staple in due time.

Patriots | Dalton Keene could work at FB    Sun May 24, 01:06 PM

New England Patriots TE Dalton Keene may receive playing time at fullback moving forward. FB Danny Vitale said he has been helping Keene learn the position better.

Footballguys view: Keene was one of the most versatile tight ends in this draft class. He was a high school quarterback and running back. In college at Virginia Tech, the third-round pick played tight end, H-back, fullback and could line up in the slot. The Patriots should be able to use him in a number of different ways.

Patriots | Dalton Keene agrees to terms    Mon May 11, 06:25 PM

New England Patriots third-round draft choice TE Dalton Keene agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Patriots Monday, May 11, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Keene is part of the plan to help the team improve at the tight end position. He'll likely split time with fellow rookie Devin Asiasi this season. Keene is a tight end/H-back/fullback/gadget quarterback who is known for his toughness and grit. He might not be in line for a ton of targets as a rookie, but Keene can take short passes and plunge into the end zone. He is tough to bring down when he builds a head of steam. We'll monitor him in dynasty formats mostly.

Patriots | Dalton Keene brings versatility to Pats    Wed Apr 29, 12:39 PM

New England Patriots rookie TE Dalton Keene brings versatility and toughness to the New England offense. Keene has lined up at multiple spots during his college career, including flush against the tackle, in the backfield and out wide. He is also known as a hard-nosed player, never shying away from running defenders over. According to the Boston Globe's Christopher Price, the ideal situation for Keene in 2020 would be a complementary role on offense while helping on special teams.

Footballguys view: Keene was one of the most versatile tight ends in this draft class. He can line up in-line, in the slot or out wide...and even in the backfield. Keene was a high school quarterback as a freshmen and might even throw a gadget pass here or there. He's a tough, hard-nosed player the Patriots should figure out multiple ways to use on offense.

Virginia Tech TE Dalton X. Keene was selected by the New England Patriots with the 101st overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft Friday, April 24.

Footballguys view: Keene is a powerful player who can thrive as a blocker or receiver. He is one of the most versatile tight ends in this draft class as he can line up in the backfield, in-line, out wide or in the slot. A former high school quarterback, Keene might be used as a gadget player now and again.

NFL | Dalton Keene declares for draft    Sat Jan 18, 08:40 PM

Virginia Tech TE Dalton X. Keene has declared for the 2020 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Keene was a quarterback and running back in high school for the Chatfield Chargers in Littleton, CO. He went to Virginia Tech and was converted to a tight end/H-back for the Hokies. His father played in the NFL and Keene has always shown incredible strength and determination with the ball in his hands (see his 3-touchdown game against the Miami Hurricanes in 2019). He'll be an intriguing prospect because of his versatility.
