NFL | Colin Kaepernick not giving up    Sat Jul 1, 01:38 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick has not given up on his desire to return to the NFL, he told USA TODAY's Jordan Mendoza on Thursday, June 29. 'I still train for it every day,' Kaepernick said.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick is only 35, which isn't completely over the hill by NFL standards. His running ability would still be above average by NFL terms, so he would have fantasy value if he got a shot as a backup and ended up a starter in a pinch. I

Raiders | No Colin Kaepernick signing yet    Fri May 27, 05:30 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is not close to a contract agreement with the Las Vegas Raiders at this time, according to source.

Footballguys view: There's the reality of the situation. The Raiders can show interest, they can work him out - and all reports indicate Kaepernick looked good - but when it comes to signing him that's another story. The Raiders should really consider Kaepernick as a backup to Derek Carr. First, they have Jarrett Stidham and Nick Mullens behind Carr at this time. Second, the Raiders want to be in a championship window and could use the insurance in a veteran quarterback if Carr has to miss time.

Raiders | Workout with QB Kaepernick 'Considered a Positive'     Thu May 26, 03:41 PM

Jeremy Fowler, from ESPN.com, reports free agent QB Colin Kaepernick's workout with the Las Vegas Raiders "was largely considered a positive."

Footballguys view: Fowler also notes that Kaepernick impressed with arm strength and overall conditioning. Kaepernick hasn't played since 2016, but he's worked out for NFL teams as recently as the Michigan spring game back in April. We'll see if the Raiders actually have interest and sign Kaepernick to compete for a backup job behind Derek Carr. The Raiders only have Jarrett Stidham and Nick Mullens as reserve quarterbacks at this time.

Raiders | Colin Kaepernick workout update    Wed May 25, 05:34 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is scheduled to work out for the Las Vegas Raiders Wednesday, May 25, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Jarrett Stidham and Nick Mullens are not great backup options behind starter Derek Carr. Kaepernick has been out of the league since 2016 and will turn 35-years old later this year. He had an exhibition at Michigan's spring game at the beginning of April where teams were permitted to watch him workout. Now, the Raiders want to take a longer look.

NFL | Colin Kaepernick open to backup job    Fri Apr 1, 06:07 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is willing to accept a backup job if that helps him sign with an NFL team, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick is still working out, and he's still hoping for a shot in the league. He's better than a lot of backup-caliber quarterbacks out there, and he's got Super Bowl experience teams should be interested in. However, after settling with the NFL in a lawsuit teams might just be freezing him out. We doubt any team signs him, but we don't doubt his talent.

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is scheduled to throw to draft-eligible players during halftime of Michigan's spring game Saturday, April 2, and NFL teams are allowed to watch the event.

Footballguys view: Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh was with the 49ers when Kaepernick helped lead his team to the Super Bowl. Now, Harbaugh is giving his guy one more chance to work out for NFL teams. Kaepernick is reportedly okay with a backup role as he tries to get back into the league.

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has not progressed in talks with the Seattle Seahawks, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

Friends and associates of free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) have been contacted by several NFL teams, as clubs continue to do research on him, according to multiple sources familiar with those conversations.

Footballguys view: Okay...that's associates of Kaepernick but that is not the veteran himself. Teams are warming up to the idea of adding him to the roster but no official contact has been made. We'll be more interested in his return when teams are actually bringing him in for workouts. That may happen around the time training camp starts.

NFL | Colin Kaepernick has not been contacted    Fri Jun 26, 03:19 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has not been contacted by any team over the last several weeks.

Footballguys view: There has been a ton of speculation about teams having interest but nothing official just yet. Tones have changes around the league about Kaepernick but until we start seeing him get workouts for teams, it's difficult to get too excited about his return to the NFL. We'll see if that changes as training camp draws near.

Lions | New Lions owner would support Colin Kaepernick signing    Tue Jun 23, 03:51 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) would be supported by new Detroit Lions principal owner Sheila Ford Hamp if general manager Bob Quinn and the coaching staff choose to sign him, Hamp said Tuesday, June 23.

Footballguys view: The Lions gave Chase Daniel five million dollars guaranteed on a three-year, $13 million dollar deal and they still like David Blough as a developmental third quarterback, but Kaepernick would probably be an upgrade from Daniel if Stafford's presents issues again. It looks more and more like Kaepernick will be signed somewhere every day.

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is not scheduled to work out for the Los Angeles Chargers at this point, according to head coach Anthony Lynn. Lynn said the team has not been in contact with Kaepernick.

Footballguys view: The Chargers head coach did admit that Kaepernick would be a great fit for what they do. However, they already have veteran Tyrod Taylor who could be the starter while rookie first-round pick Justin Herbert develops.

Chargers | Colin Kaepernick a standby option for LAC?    Wed Jun 17, 01:13 PM

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn told reporters he is happy with the team's three quarterbacks when asked about possibly signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick. 'Definitely fits the style of quarterback for the system we're going to be running,' Lynn said. Kaepernick and Lynn haven't spoken, but the quarterback appears to be on the team's emergency list, in the opinion of NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: The Chargers have Tyrod Taylor as the starting quarterback...at least he should be able to hold off 2020 first-round pick Justin Herbert in training camp. The offense is going to feature bootlegs and rollouts which Kaepernick ran in the offense with the 49ers years ago. The Chargers are a team who could make the postseason and turn some heads in the playoffs.

Eagles | Philly not ruling out Colin Kaepernick    Wed Jun 17, 12:23 PM

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson appeared Wednesday, June 17, on the 94WIP Morning Show with Angelo Cataldi and was asked about the possibility of signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers). 'I think it's something that if a team or even us were in a situation, we would look at all possibilities and scenarios,' Pederson said. 'The one thing you have to keep in mind is he hasn't played in a couple years. That still doesn't mean he couldn't come in and be a backup and learn your system and do those things for you. It's not out of the realm or possibility that could happen.'

Footballguys view: The Eagles have unproven players like veteran Nate Sudfeld and rookie Jalen Hurts behind starter Carson Wentz. It's good for the team to keep all options open in case they feel they need a better plan. Wentz is a fine starter but he has struggled with injuries at times during his career. The Eagles want to make another deep postseason run, and they don't want their season de-railed if Wentz gets banged up again.

Patriots | Colin Kaepernick unlikely to Patriots    Mon Jun 15, 10:33 AM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is unlikely to sign with the New England Patriots, in the opinion of beat writer Mike Reiss. Reiss believes if you see Kaepernick in a New England uniform, it's because somebody above head coach Bill Belichick on the Patriots totem pole made the move.

Footballguys view: That means Robert Kraft would have to make the call to add Kaepernick. The Patriots are moving on from Tom Brady this year and we'll see Jarrett Stidham compete with Brian Hoyer for the starting job. Kaepernick has been trying to get back into the league for years, and we'll see if someone finally gives him a shot this season.

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has drawn interest from an undisclosed team. Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said a team contacted him about Kaepernick Thursday, June 11. The Seahawks were interested in Kaepernick after he opted out of his contract with the 49ers in 2017.

Footballguys view: The Steelers, Broncos, Rams, and Titans could also use an upgrade at backup quarterback, but this could be any number of teams. The chances of Kaepernick playing in the NFL this year have gone up significantly after recent events in the United States.

Browns | Former CLE coach wanted team to sign Colin Kaepernick    Sun Jun 7, 09:29 AM

However, Jackson did not have the ability to make personnel decisions and the Browns selected DeShone Kizer in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft instead.

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick's scheduled workout Saturday, Nov. 16, was postponed and will be moved to an alternative location in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon. The workout will be open to the media and all NFL team representatives as allowed under league rules.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick wanted transparency in this process and the league was not going to let the media into the original workout. Reports have come out from the workout that Kaepernick's arm looked fine, but of course there is more for teams to consider than just his physical ability. We'll see if some team actually brings him in on a contract.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins has looked high and low for quarterback options. They're going with Ryan Fitzpatrick now but they did trade for 2018 first-round pick Josh Rosen earlier this year. Neither one of those guys are likely to be their starter in 2020....Kaepernick may not be either, but they'll do their due diligence.

Ravens | Baltimore has talked with Colin Kaepernick    Sun Jul 30, 08:10 PM

The Baltimore Ravens have had direct discussions with free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers), team president Dick Cass said Sunday, July 30.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick starred under Jim Harbaugh during his time with the 49ers. Jim's brother John is the coach of the Ravens, so the connection is clear. The Ravens need a quarterback during camp with Joe Flacco banged up and Ryan Mallett stinking up the practice field. It's unclear if Kaepernick would join a team where he clearly doesn't have a shot at the starting job.

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is interested in playing for the Baltimore Ravens, according to sources. Kaepernick has not talked with any teams about money.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick would be a backup to Joe Flacco if added but he may want to wait and see what happens during camp with other teams. Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is still considered an option for the Baltimore Ravens but part of the decision will depend on QB Joe Flacco's (back) status.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick will only be necessary if it looks like Flacco's back isn't getting better and could affect him in season. He should get signed at some point once teams get a good look at their backup situation or a starter injury happens in camp or the preseason.

Footballguys view: We're not sure how long Joe Flacco will be out--we've heard anything from 3-to-6 weeks to 'soon'--but Kaepernick would be a decent option in this offense and with the weapons and run game there, we could see him be successful. We've thought all along that it would take an injury to get Kaepernick in camp. Whether or not the Ravens pull the trigger, it seems pretty clear that we were right.

Footballguys view: The language of the NFL is money, and Kaepernick should not expect much on the open market. In fact, Seattle has been the only team to show interest in him. Perhaps if/when injuries hit in training camp his phone will start ringing...with better offers than Seattle had for him.
