Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has not been ruled out as a possible free-agent option for the Seahawks, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

Seahawks | Colin Kaepernick could visit Seattle    Thu Apr 12, 02:02 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) may meet with the Seattle Seahawks at a later date once his plans for football and his stance on social issues are considered and finalized.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick is a natural fit behind Russell Wilson and the Seahawks have kicked the tires on him before. If the only issue is truly having a set plan for his social issues -- really agreeing to the meeting seems like a clear plan for football -- one would imagine the thing will get done.

Texans | Colin Kaepernick was option for HOU    Mon Nov 6, 12:37 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) was discussed as an option after QB Deshaun Watson (knee) was lost for the season, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick would be a better option than what the Texans have right now with Watson out for the year. However, the situation with him is incredibly polarizing and one that no team seems ready to take on.

Packers | Not likely to add Colin Kaepernick    Tue Oct 17, 07:46 AM

The Green Bay Packers are not likely to pursue free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers), mainly because head coach Mike McCarthy does not want to go after a veteran QB without previous ties to the Packers offense.

Footballguys view: McCarthy said he's got three years in Brett Hundley and two years in Joe Callahan and that's the guys they're going with.

Dolphins | Colin Kaepernick mentioned by Miami    Thu Aug 3, 02:16 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) was brought up the Miami Dolphins' front office as a possible contingency plan if QB Ryan Tannehill (leg) is forced to miss time.

Footballguys view: Since Tannehill is ok, it is a non-issue, but at least it appears that one front office and owner isn't opposed to adding Kaepernick.

Ravens | Colin Kaepernick hits snag with Ravens    Wed Aug 2, 10:56 AM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has received support from Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and general manager Ozzie Newsome, but there's resistance to signing him from owner Steve Bisciotti, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Owners will be most concerned about the perception of the team, and some might have political beliefs that make Kaepernick's actions tough to stomach. This rift might have played out on other teams that considered Kaepernick this offseason.

Ravens | Baltimore has talked with Colin Kaepernick    Sun Jul 30, 08:10 PM

The Baltimore Ravens have had direct discussions with free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers), team president Dick Cass said Sunday, July 30.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick starred under Jim Harbaugh during his time with the 49ers. Jim's brother John is the coach of the Ravens, so the connection is clear. The Ravens need a quarterback during camp with Joe Flacco banged up and Ryan Mallett stinking up the practice field. It's unclear if Kaepernick would join a team where he clearly doesn't have a shot at the starting job.

Ravens | Colin Kaepernick interested in Baltimore    Sat Jul 29, 02:38 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is interested in playing for the Baltimore Ravens, according to sources. Kaepernick has not talked with any teams about money.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick would be a backup to Joe Flacco if added but he may want to wait and see what happens during camp with other teams. If injuries hit, Kaepernick could get an opportunity to be the starter elsewhere. That's just not a possibility with an established quarterback like Flacco in Baltimore.

Ravens | Colin Kaepernick still an option for BAL    Fri Jul 28, 04:05 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is still considered an option for the Baltimore Ravens but part of the decision will depend on QB Joe Flacco's (back) status.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick will only be necessary if it looks like Flacco's back isn't getting better and could affect him in season. He should get signed at some point once teams get a good look at their backup situation or a starter injury happens in camp or the preseason.

Bills | Colin Kaepernick not an option for BUF    Thu Jul 27, 04:49 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is not an option for the Buffalo Bills, according to general manager Brandon Beane.

Footballguys view: The Bills are going to move forward with T.J. Yates and rookie Nate Peterman competing for the backup job behind Tyrod Taylor. Peterman is an interesting developmental prospect to keep an eye on in deep dynasty leagues.

Ravens | Colin Kaepernick has Ravens' interest    Thu Jul 27, 11:57 AM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has interest from the Baltimore Ravens, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

Footballguys view: We're not sure how long Joe Flacco will be out--we've heard anything from 3-to-6 weeks to 'soon'--but Kaepernick would be a decent option in this offense and with the weapons and run game there, we could see him be successful. We've thought all along that it would take an injury to get Kaepernick in camp. Whether or not the Ravens pull the trigger, it seems pretty clear that we were right.

Seahawks | Money an issue between Colin Kaepernick, SEA    Sat Jun 3, 02:05 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has not signed with the Seattle Seahawks at this point because the two sides can't agree to a salary.

Footballguys view: The language of the NFL is money, and Kaepernick should not expect much on the open market. In fact, Seattle has been the only team to show interest in him. Perhaps if/when injuries hit in training camp his phone will start ringing...with better offers than Seattle had for him.

Seahawks | Seattle not signing Colin Kaepernick now    Fri Jun 2, 04:56 PM

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said the team will not be signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) at this time but did not rule out the possibility in the future.

Footballguys view: The Seahawks are the only team that has shown interest in Kaepernick so far this offseason. They left the door open to add him later, and that might be just what happens. Trevone Boykin is not a reliable backup option, but he's the guy for now behind Russell Wilson.

Seahawks | Nothing close between SEA, Colin Kaepernick    Sat May 27, 04:39 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is not close to an agreement with the Seattle Seahawks at this point even though they had a nice visit.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick only wants to play for the Seahawks, so it seems like something could be done at a later date. It makes sense for both sides as Seattle needs an upgrade over Trevone Boykin as the primary backup behind Russell Wilson.

Seahawks | Colin Kaepernick wants to be in Seattle    Thu May 25, 01:46 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) said he wants to be with the Seattle Seahawks and doesn't mind backing up QB Russell Wilson. His meeting with the Seahawks went very well, according to a source.

Footballguys view: We think this would be a great fit. On the field, the offense plays to Kaepernick's strengths and would help cover some of his weaknesses. Off the field, Seattle is a generally liberal town and his kneeling - which he isn't even doing anymore - won't cause much angst.

Seahawks | Colin Kaepernick only meeting with SEA    Wed May 24, 02:37 PM

Updating previous reports, free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is meeting with the Seattle Seahawks Wednesday, May 24, but is not working out for the team, according to a source.

Footballguys view: With so much film on Kaepernick, it's not like the Seahawks need to see him work out. They'll need to see if he can pass a physical and see how much he tips the scale. That's about it. They need a better backup behind Russell Wilson, and Kaepernick would give them just that.

Seahawks | Colin Kaepernick visiting Seahawks    Wed May 24, 09:34 AM

Updating an earlier report, free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) will visit with the Seattle Seahawks Wednesday, May 24, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The connection is there from previous reports, but now it's official. The Seahawks are in need of a better backup QB behind Russell Wilson and Kaepernick could easily be that guy...if he's willing to be a clear reserve. Currently, the Seahawks have Trevone Boykin behind Wilson but he's been in trouble with the law twice this offseason.

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) was not considered as an option for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when they decided to sign QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, according to a source.

Footballguys view: We could see Kaepernick wind up in Seattle as a backup behind Russell Wilson. The Bucs wanted a veteran to compete with Ryan Griffin to be the backup behind Jameis Winston.

Cowboys | Colin Kaepernick not on Dallas' radar    Fri May 19, 01:54 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is reportedly 'not a fit' for the Dallas Cowboys, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys will go with Kellen Moore as the backup behind Dak Prescott. They better hope Prescott doesn't get hurt as Moore would offer them little as the starter.

Seahawks | Seahawks have interest in Colin Kaepernick    Tue May 16, 01:03 AM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has drawn interest from the Seattle Seahawks, who reached out to his agent last week. The interest in Kaepernick as a potential backup quarterback is 'legit.'

Footballguys view: Seattle only has Trevone Boykin as the backup behind Russell Wilson, but Boykin has been in trouble with the law twice this offseason. Kaepernick may want to be a starter, but that gig isn't likely to present itself to him. He could fit in nicely on a championship caliber team if he's willing to accept a backup role.

Seahawks | Seattle looking at free-agent quarterbacks    Mon May 15, 02:12 PM

Free-agent QBs Colin Kaepernick (49ers) and Robert Griffin III (Browns) have drawn interest from the Seattle Seahawks as possible backups to QB Russell Wilson.

Footballguys view: It's a smart move for the Seahawks. Last year's backup QB, Trevone Boykin, was arrested twice in 11 days back in late March and early April. Boykin was undraftd out of TCU in 2016, and he's incredibly raw at the position. Getting a player like Kaepernick or Griffin would insure the team has valuable veteran depth behind Wilson.

NFL | Colin Kaepernick still has interest    Thu May 11, 04:44 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has drawn interest from three teams since the start of free agency, according to Kaepernick's adviser.

Footballguys view: We are pretty sure Kaepernick will get a job somewhere, and while his kneeling may have turned off some teams, the fact that Jay Cutler couldn't find a job either might lessen some of the drama about Kaepernick's unemployment. Other issues are his shaky tendencies on the football field, and the very specific set of skills and fit in scheme.

Buccaneers | Tampa Bay will not pursue Colin Kaepernick    Sat Apr 1, 03:47 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) will not receive interest from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because general manager Jason Licht does not think Kaepernick is a good fit for the offense.

Footballguys view: The offense is geared towards being in the pocket, although reports indicate they'll move Jameis Winston around a bit in 2017. Kaepernick may want to be a starter, but it doesn't seem like anyone is going to offer him that position. He'll have to accept being a backup if he wants to keep playing.

NFL | Colin Kaepernick's dedication questioned    Fri Mar 31, 09:12 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick's commitment to football and vegan diet are concerns for teams.

Footballguys view: There's a lot of reasons why Kaepernick doesn't have a job now. If teams felt he could still play at a high level, then he would likely be on a team as talent wins out over any off-field/commitment concerns.

NFL | SF, Colin Kaepernick haven't spoken    Wed Mar 29, 02:39 AM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) and the San Francisco 49ers have not had any contact since general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with him on Feb. 22.

Footballguys view: That means the team doesn't want him anymore. Some feel Kaepernick has been blackballed by the league for his political stances, while others feel like he's not yet been signed because he's not of starting caliber anymore. Whatever the answer is, Kaepernick is going to have to continue to wait for a new opportunity. He may have to settle for a backup position, and at most he'll be added by a team where he can compete for the top job.

NFL | Colin Kaepernick looking for chance to start    Tue Mar 28, 08:19 AM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is looking for a team with a chance to compete for a starting job and the potential to earn $9-$10 million per year.

Footballguys view: No team wants to take a look at Kaepernick right now, and that may not change in the near future. If NFL teams felt he was a starting option, then he'd already be signed. If/when Kaepernick feels comfortable as a backup, then perhaps some team will bring him on board.

Broncos | Denver unlikely to pursue Colin Kaepernick    Mon Mar 27, 08:29 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) likely will not receive interest from the Denver Broncos because the team would look for a quarterback that would fit their offense better if they decide to sign a veteran quarterback, according to general manager John Elway.

Footballguys view: Last year the Broncos wanted Kaepernick, but that was before they moved up in the first round to select QB Paxton Lynch. This year, Lynch will compete with last year's starter Trevor Siemian for the main job.

Lions | Detroit not interested in Colin Kaepernick    Mon Mar 27, 08:28 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is not an option for the Detroit Lions because he does not if the team's offensive scheme, according to general manager Bob Quinn.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick wouldn't fit with the Lions. There are plenty of other teams where he'd fit as a backup, but Detroit is not one of them.

Browns | CLE owner open to adding Colin Kaepernick    Mon Mar 27, 07:32 PM

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said the team has not discussed the possibility of signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers), but he would be open to pursuing Kaepernick if the front office were interested in him.

Footballguys view: The Browns need to find a starter before they add a backup. Kaepernick is more of a reserve QB at this point in his career. Cleveland wants to trade for Jimmy Garropolo (Patriots) to be their starter, but they may not be able to acquire him.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick could return to 49ers    Fri Mar 17, 04:36 PM

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch has not ruled out the possibility of the 49ers re-signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick but did say the likelihood if it happening has dropped since the team has added QBs Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley this offseason.

Footballguys view: The 49ers would be unlikely to commit long term to Kaepernick. With six-year contracts for head coach Kyle Shanahan and GM John Lynch, the 49ers have a lot of time to find the right quarterback....and that's not Kaepernick.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick officially opts out    Fri Mar 3, 09:12 AM

Browns | Colin Kaepernick not an option for Browns    Wed Mar 1, 06:57 PM

San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick will not receive interest from the Cleveland Browns in free agency, according to a source.

Footballguys view: We can't see the Browns lining up another veteran quarterback in their mess. They've already got enough problems, and Kaepernick isn't the answer. They may not find an answer in free agency or the draft...but they'll be looking.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick to opt out    Wed Mar 1, 09:08 AM

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick's new agents, Jeff Nalley and Sean Kiernan, have informed all 32 teams that Kaepernick will be opting out of his contract.

Footballguys view: Here's another quarterback to hit the open market, but we don't see a ton of teams lining up to add Kaepernick. As a pure-sight thrower, Kaepernick has not evolved his game as a quarterback. He should be in line for a modest contract, and maybe even a "prove it" deal.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick open to returning to SF    Wed Feb 15, 01:00 AM

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is open to returning to the team in 2017, according to 'those close to him.' The 29-year-old is due to earn nearly $15 million in base salary, but he can also opt out of the deal and enter free agency, which begins on March 9. San Francisco also has the option of releasing him with little ramifications to their salary cap.

Footballguys view: New head coach Kyle Shanahan doesn't have a system that would work well with Kaepernick's skill set. We just don't see them keeping Kaepernick around in 2017, and the direction they go in at quarterback is a huge unknown. However, with six-year deals for both Shanahan and new GM John Lynch, the 49ers don't have to rush into any decision.

Broncos | Denver unlikely to pursue Colin Kaepernick    Fri Feb 10, 12:05 PM

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is not expected to be a trade target again this offseason for the Denver Broncos.

Footballguys view: The Broncos are happy with the two quarterbacks they already have on the roster. Paxton Lynch, their first-round pick in 2016, will push last year's starter Trevor Siemian for the starting job. While this has been categorized as an "open competition" the team may put an offense in place that is more friendly to Lynch.

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick will meet with general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan. Kaepernick has reached out to both men.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick had some good moments, but not enough for the team to feel completely confident in him. Shanahan did a lot for Matt Ryan in Atlanta, though, so he could be a good guy to fix Kaepernick's issues, if anyone can.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick still undecided    Wed Feb 8, 02:54 PM

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has not decided if he will opt out of his contract this offseason, according to a source. Kaepernick has not talked with head coach Kyle Shanahan or general manager John Lynch at this point.

Footballguys view: We just don't see Kaepernick as a fit for the Shanahan offense. The 49ers don't have a quarterback of the future, but they've got the time to find the right guy. Some speculate they could make a move for Kirk Cousins, but that would be somewhat costly as they'd have to surrender valuable draft picks. They could move forward with some journeyman quarterback this year until the right player comes along in the NFL draft.

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is expected to opt out of his contract when he's eligible to do so March 2, according to a report by ESPN.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick is probably just a backup at this point, but one that should be one of the better backups in the league. He has rehabilitated his standing to some extent and should be able to pick a team with a culture and system that suits him.

Jets | Colin Kaepernick of interest to the Jets?    Mon Jan 30, 12:07 PM

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is entering the final year of his contract in due to have a $19.3 million cap figure, and the team can save $16.9 million in cap space by cutting or trading him. One possible destination could be the New York Jets, who named New Orleans Saints receivers coach John Morton as their new offensive coordinator Sunday, Jan. 29. Morton served as the receivers coach in San Francisco from 2011 to 2014 - Kaepernick's first four years in the league.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick is almost certainly not going to be with San Francisco next season, as next GM John Lynch won't make the same mistake that Trent Baalke did last year, seeking trade compensation after paying Kaepernick's hefty price tag. The Jets are among the most desperate quarterback teams in the NFL, although they might wait to see what happens with Tony Romo before pursuing an option like Kaepernick.

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick will get the start in Week 14 against the New York Jets, according to offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick was benched last week, but that was just to give the offense a spark. With Blaine Gabbert as the next man up, it is an easy call to go back to Kaepernick against a weak Jets pass defense.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick was a fantasy QB1 going into this one. The conditions certainly played a role and Chip Kelly said the most isn't permanent, but now it will be very tough to trust Kaepernick if he starts against the Jets next week.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick surging on the ground    Tue Nov 29, 06:01 PM

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is averaging 62.2 yards per game on the ground. In total, Kaepernick has 373 rushing yards on 46 attempts, including one touchdown. 'He's out there, he's in control and when he sees an opportunity he's taken advantage of it,' offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins said.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners aren't looking at the 49ers losing with Kaepernick at the helm, they're staring at the big numbers he's posting on a weekly basis. Pick him up off the waiver wire if you can. In addition to his rushing success, Kaepernick is averaging 277.5 yards per game through the air with eight touchdowns and just two interceptions.
