Panthers | Jones signing on hold because of injury    Mon Sep 7, 06:08 PM

Updating a previous report, Darin Gantt, of the Rock Hill Herald, reports unrestricted free-agent WR Mark Jones (hamstring) said there was a hamstring injury found during his physical with the Carolina Panthers and will not be ready to play for another week.

Footballguys view: We could see Jones signed after the start of the regular season. The Panthers have not been happy with their return game, and that's part of the reason why they let Ryne Robinson go. If Jones is signed, he should be the team's favored punt returner over Captain Munnerlyn and Kenneth Moore.

Panthers | Expected to sign M. Jones    Mon Sep 7, 11:35 AM

The Carolina Panthers are expected to offer free-agent WR Mark Jones (Titans) a contract Monday, Sept. 7, after he undergoes a physical with the team.

Footballguys view: Jones would look to reclaim his job in Carolina if re-signed. He left the Panthers this offseason, and signed a free agent deal with the Titans. Tennessee decided to go in a different direction and cut Jones this week. Jones isn't much of a factor as a wide receiver, but can be an effective return man.

Titans | M. Jones does well in practice Friday    Fri May 22, 08:50 PM

Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans WR Mark Jones performed well during the team's practice Friday, May 22. Jones made several big catches during the team's practice and has been grabbing the attention of others on the team. Offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger said, "In the huddle he's real quiet, but then you look up and he's making a play. Three days in a row Mark has made plays and is doing some good things. He hadn't played receiver that much, so you don't know that much about him. But he has a very good feel for what we're doing. He has done something good every day."

Footballguys view: It's time to officially put Jones on your watch list. Wyatt said Jones is "beginning to change his mind" about his place in the WR order. Offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger heaped praise on Jones, saying he "made plays" and "did good things" three days in a row, and had a "good feel for what we're doing." Consider this OTA this first wisps of smoke. If the kudos continue through training camp, we'll have some fire.

Titans | Fisher believes Jones can help in passing game    Fri May 22, 05:53 PM

Gary Estwick, of The Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said WR Mark Jones can not only help in the return game but can also help the passing game. 'We saw him play the receiver position (before joining Titans) but felt like he could also add some things as a returner. That's primarily what he is, but he also plays receiver,' Fisher said.

Footballguys view: Even if rookie Kenny Britt is ready to play in three wide sets, there's still room for Jones to work his way up the depth chart at wide receiver past disappointing recent draft picks like Lavelle Hawkins, Paul Williams, and Chris Davis.
