UFL | Kevin Jones signs with Hartford Mon Sep 27, 01:47 PM
Unrestricted free-agent RB Kevin Jones (Bears) has signed with the United Football League's Hartford Colonials, reports FOXSports.com's Adam Caplan.
Footballguys view: Ah, what might have been with Kevin Jones. He looked great in college at Virginia Tech and had bursts of production throughout his NFL career. Injuries were always a big concern for Jones, and we're cheering for him now that he's in the UFL. |

Bears | K. Jones says he was released Tue Mar 9, 08:38 PM
Vaughn McClure, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears RB Kevin Jones said Tuesday, March 9, he has been released.
Footballguys view: This move is not that surprising, especially after the Bears added Chester Taylor last week. He had experience in a Martz offense from his days in Detroit, but it wasn't enough to keep him around. Jones was cleared medically, and may catch on with another team before training camp. |

Bears | K. Jones out for season Fri Sep 4, 04:19 PM
Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears RB Kevin Jones (ankle) is out for the season with a torn ligament in his left ankle.
Footballguys view: Tough break for Jones and the Bears. Jones had just gotten back to 100% for the first time in a while, and the Bears don't have another quality RB on the roster that can step in and do most of Matt Forte's work like Jones had demonstrated he could do in the past with the Lions. |

Bears | K. Jones carted off Thursday Thu Sep 3, 08:27 PM
Brad Biggs, of the National Football Post, reports Chicago Bears RB Kevin Jones (ankle) was taken from the sideline to the locker room on a cart Thursday, Sept. 3, after suffering an ankle injury in the preseason finale.
Footballguys view: Jones, like Cadillac Williams has worked all the way back from multiple serious injuries, and like Williams, seems to have no luck when it comes to injuries. |

Bears | K. Jones impressing coaching staff Wed Aug 12, 01:55 AM
Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears RB Kevin Jones is now two years removed from a torn ACL he suffered during the 2007 season. He has shed 20 pounds during the offseason and has impressed the coaching staff with his quickness, burst and cutting ability. Plus, he is now in his second year within the Bears' system. 'There's definitely plenty of snaps to get Kevin in there. He gives us some good solid running ability with a lot of experience. He's had a great offseason and has worked really hard,' offensive coordinator Ron Turner said.

Bears | Turner says K. Jones will have pretty good role Thu Aug 6, 08:27 PM
Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner said RB Kevin Jones will have a pretty good role as RB Matt Forte's backup. Turner said, "He'll just be a guy to spell [starter] Matt [Forte] in our base package. He's quicker, he's faster, playing with more confidence. He's not tentative on the knee or anything. He's had a great offseason. He's going to be productive for us. He's going to have a pretty good role."
Footballguys view: Turner has used a two-back system before, with former Bears RB Thomas Jones carried 296 times in 2006 while former RB Cedric Benson had 157 carries. This is just another reason to temper expectations for Matt Forte in his sophomore season. Jay Cutler won't check down as much as Forte, so his receptions will drop - and if Kevin Jones can stay healthy he will steal some carries away from Forte. The Bears are going to try and keep their star RB healthy for what they hope is a playoff run this year. |

Bears | Jones standing out Sun Aug 2, 10:46 PM
Jeff Dickerson, of ESPNChicago.com, reports Chicago Bears RB Kevin Jones has been one of the top standouts so far in training camp.
Footballguys view: Dickerson said Jones is "attacking defenders like they owe him money". It's easy to forget how talented Jones was before he suffered multiple serious injuries. He and Ladell Betts are two of the cheapest backups in fantasy drafts, and either one is worth a late pick, even if you don't own Matt Forte or Clinton Portis. |

Bears | Turner hints at putting Forte and Jones in at same time Fri Jul 31, 01:07 PM
Jeff Dickerson, of ESPN Chicago, reports on his Twitter feed that Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner hinted at maybe using Matt Forte and Kevin Jones in the same backfield.
Footballguys view: Don't forget that most reports have Jones a lot healthier than last year, and the Bears quietly re-signed him to be the backup early in the offseason. We don't think it hurts Forte's stock, but it makes Jones a much more attractive late round pick. |

Bears | Forte and Jones on the field at the same time? Thu Jul 16, 03:03 PM
Larry Mayer, from ChicagoBears.com, reports there's always a chance that both could line up in the backfield at the same time, especially given Matt Forte's versatility and ability to line up in the backfield, in the slot or split out wide as a receiver. The advantage would be that the defense wouldn't know who was getting the ball, while the disadvantage would be that one of the tailbacks would have to block like a fullback.
Footballguys view: Kevin Jones hasn't been much of a blocker during his pro career, but he would put forth great effort if called upon. Last season when Jones wasn't playing very much he went to head coach Lovie and asked for more playing time then he became a solid special teams player. Mayer believes that it's more likely we'll see Greg Olsen line up as a "pseudo fullback" and catch some passes out of the backfield. |

Bears | Larger workload coming for K. Jones? Tue Jul 7, 11:51 PM
Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears RBs coach Tim Spencer said the team has to use RB Kevin Jones more this year to make sure both he and RB Matt Forte are as healthy as they can be by the end of the season. Spencer said Jones is now 100 percent healthy and is back to where he was before suffering a torn ACL. 'He knows our system and he knows what we're trying to do,' Spencer noted on Jones.
Footballguys view: Jones is one of the cheapest handcuffs out there, and one of the most talented. If he's truly back to 100%, he's a steal as a last-round pick if you own Forte. Make sure to keep him on your waiver wire speed dial if you hear anything is going wrong with Forte's health, and once you dump your extra kicker and defense/special teams after bye weeks, Jones is exactly the kind of RB you should pick up "just in case", regardless of whether you own Forte. |

Bears | Jones working with first team Wednesday Wed Jun 10, 03:46 PM
Vaughn McClure, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears RB Kevin Jones was working with the first-team offense during practice Wednesday, June 10.
Footballguys view: With Matt Forte sitting out practice with a hamstring injury the Bears turned to veteran Kevin Jones. Jones has flashed playmaking ability from time to time during his 5 year career, but injuries have kept him from being a consistent force in the NFL. |
