Saints | Robert Meachem, Pierre Thomas might return kicks Thu Dec 16, 01:00 AM
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said Wednesday, Dec. 15, that WR Robert Meachem and RB Pierre Thomas likely will be first in line to return kicks in Week 15 against the Baltimore Ravens, reports Mike Triplett, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. A replacement is needed for WR Courtney Roby (concussion), who was carted off in Week 14 against the St. Louis Rams and not expected to play on Sunday. WR Devery Henderson, RB Julius Jones and CB Patrick Robinson are other possibilities to see time in the return game.

Seahawks | Three-headed committee approach at running back Sun Sep 12, 11:16 PM
Seattle Seahawks RBs Justin Forsett, Julius Jones and Leon Washington all were in the mix at tailback during a Week 1 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Forsett led the way with 43 yards rushing on seven carries; he also caught three passes for 17 yards. Jones had a team-high eight carries, while rushing for 18 yards. Williams had six carries for 12 yards.
Footballguys view: Justin Forsett has the most value of the group, but even that barely makes him rosterable in most leagues. |

Seahawks | Rotating running backs Wed Sep 8, 05:05 PM
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, during an interview on SIRIUS NFL Radio, said RB Justin Forsett is a very versatile, elusive running back and a good blocker. However, just because Forsett is starting Week 1 doesn't mean the competition at running back is over. Carroll said RBs Leon Washington and Julius Jones remain in a competition with Forsett for playing time. 'I've always felt comfortable rotating guys,' Carroll said. He said he plans to have the backs continue to rotate until someone gives him a reason to just stick with one back.
Footballguys view: The Seahawks RB situation has the potential to be a fantasy headache all season long. Leon Washington is the most talented and experienced back but he and Justin Forsett should share playing time in what is likely to be a 'hot hand' scenario. |

Seahawks | Justin Forsett named starting running back Tue Sep 7, 02:15 AM
Seattle Seahawks RB Justin Forsett was named the Week 1 starter by head coach Pete Carroll, reports Greg Johns, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. However, Carroll said this decision only applied to the coming game, and he didn't guarantee that Forsett would see more carries than fellow backs Leon Washington and Julius Jones. 'This is a competition that is still open. This is not set in stone,' Carroll said. 'Somebody has to go out first and I want Justin to go out first.'
Footballguys view: Not exactly a ringing endorsement from Carroll when he says 'someone has to go out first.' Forsett proved last year that he could bust off some big plays against defenses when the game was out of hand. We'll see if he can be as productive when the defense is more focused on stopping the run. Leon Washington should be heavily involved as well in the Seahawks RBBC. |

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks RB Julius Jones will remain with the team after he agreed to restructure his contract, reports ProFootballTalk.com.

Seahawks | Julius Jones a goner Sun Sep 5, 04:13 PM
The Seattle Seahawks have released RB Julius Jones, reports Adam Schefter, of ESPN.

Seahawks | Running game remains a question mark Sat Sep 4, 05:21 AM
The Seattle Seahawks running game remains a huge question mark entering the regular season, reports Greg Johns, of The Seattle Post-Intelligencer. RB Leon Washington (leg) was held out of the team's preseason finale, while RB Julius Jones was given the starting nod. Jones had six carries for 18 yards and didn't show any sort of burst, but the offensive line didn't open many holes for him, either. RB Justin Forsett rushed for 31 yards on six carries, but he was running behind the starting offensive line and going against reserve defenders at that point.

Seahawks | Competition remains open for No. 1 running back spot Tue Aug 31, 10:56 AM
Seattle Seahawks RBs Justin Forsett, Leon Washington and Julius Jones remain in competition for the team's starting running back job, according to CBSSports.com. Head coach Pete Carroll is not concerned that there remains no clear-cut favorite at this point. 'I'm not really worried about that. I want them to be hungry,' Carroll said.
Footballguys view: If Leon Washington is healthy then he should be the lead back in the Seahawks stable. Forsett proved last year that he could make big plays against unsuspecting defenses, but he does not have the speed or cutback ability of Washington. Jones is likely the odd man out in this competition because of his pedestrian skill set. |

Seahawks | Going with hot hand at running back? Sat Aug 21, 04:31 AM
Seattle Seahawks RB Justin Forsett has shown the most frequent flashes during training camp, reports Clare Farnsworth, of Seahawks.com. However, it appears the Seahawks will go with a running back by committee situation, with the hot back seeing the majority of the carries. RBs Julius Jones and Leon Washington (leg) are also in the mix for playing time.
Footballguys view: This was always the most likely outcome with the lack of a true workhorse on the roster and Pete Carroll's RBBC history at USC. None of these RBs are worth a pick before the 9th or 10th round. |

Seahawks | Leon Washington ready to jump into starting RB battle Fri Aug 20, 04:49 AM
Seattle Seahawks RB Leon Washington (leg) has looked good in practice and it appears he is ready to jump into the competition with RBs Julius Jones and Justin Forsett for the starting tailback role, reports Eric D. Williams, of The Olympian. 'We're really excited about Leon playing this week. And he's had terrific preparation for it. He's been banged around plenty of times here, been knocked off his feet and has been tackled plenty of times here. He's ready to go at this point, so we'll see where he is,' head coach Pete Carroll said.

Seattle Seahawks RB Julius Jones has caught head coach Pete Carroll's attention, as the coach feels Jones has had a great spring, reports CBSSports.com. 'He's done very well,' Carroll said.
Footballguys view: Carroll has previously stated that the competition for the starting running back job is wide open, and Jones should continue to battle with Justin Forsett throughout training camp. |

Seahawks | Pete Carroll says RB competition wide open Tue Jun 8, 06:34 PM
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said there is no frontrunner between RB Julius Jones and RB Justin Forsett for the starting running back job and there will be an open competition for the starting job during training camp, reports Greg Johns, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
Footballguys view: The Seahawks are likely to use a RBBC, no matter who wins the starting job in training camp. We like Forsett's ability better than Jones, and believe he should win the starting job. Forsett is a natural runner, with the vision to see cutback lanes plus the anticipation and patience to allow his blocks to develop in front of him. He's very dangerous in the open field, and while he's not the biggest RB he is a willing inside runner and knows how to pick his feet up when running through trash at the line of scrimmage. When healthy, Leon Washington will also compete for playing time in the Seahawks backfield. |

Seahawks | Jones' value improves with White cut Sun May 30, 02:03 PM
CBSSports.com reports the Seahawks waived RB LenDale White on Friday. "It became apparent at this time that LenDale was not ready to be a member of the Seattle Seahawks," said GM John Schneider. "It just did not appear to be the right fit at this point in our program. We wish LenDale all the best with his future." Seattle acquired White in a trade from Tennessee during the NFL Draft. The Seahawks didn't give up much to acquire White, who reportedly was in great shape, saying he weighed 219 pounds at the team's most recent practice. The expectation was White would not only be able to contribute, but he would compete for a starting spot with Justin Forsett, Leon Washington and Julius Jones. Now, White will be looking for a new job.
Footballguys view: Jones was on the roster bubble, but now may be staying with the Seahawks in 2010. We like Justin Forsett and Leon Washington better than Jones, but all three will be competing for the starting job in training camp. |

Seahawks | Running back competition could last all training camp Tue May 25, 10:51 AM
The Seattle Seahawks' running back battle will be interesting to watch and could last until the end of training camp, according to CBSSports.com. Between RBs Julius Jones, Justin Forsett, LenDale White and Leon Washington, the Seahawks will have some decisions to make.
Footballguys view: Julius Jones is likely the low man on the totem pole in this competition. LenDale White came over from Tennessee, is in much better shape, and is reunited with his college coach Pete Carroll. Leon Washington gets a fresh start after an up and down career with the Jets. He's coming off a major leg injury and will have to prove that he can be more than just a change of pace back. Justin Forsett is an instinctive runner who is a good receiver out of the backfield. The situation is cramped right now, and could end up being a three-headed RBBC with Forsett getting some carries, Washington getting most receptions, and White featured as the goalline back. |

Seahawks | Shopping Julius Jones Mon Apr 26, 10:36 AM
The Seattle Seahawks were willing to trade RB Julius Jones during the NFL Draft, reports Michael Lombardi, of the National Football Post. However, since that proved unsuccessful, the Seahawks could bring Jones back. Jones remains available for a trade if a team is interested.
Footballguys view: Julius Jones has underwhelmed during most of his career, so we're not expecting the trade offers to come rolling in. He could get cut in training camp if the Seahawks cannot find a new home for him. We expect LenDale White and Leon Washington to split the carries for the Seahawks in 2010. Washington should be the primary receiving back for the team and we think it would be wise for Pete Carroll to get Justin Forsett involved as a receiver out of the backfield this season too. |

Seahawks | Unlikely to release Julius Jones at this point Sat Apr 24, 09:40 PM
Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider indicated that the team is not considering releasing RB Julius Jones at this time, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer's Greg Johns.
Footballguys view: Pete Carroll wanted a lot of competition in training camp, and he certainly will have one at RB. We expect the little guys, Leon Washington and Justin Forsett, to rise to the top of the depth chart. |

Seahawks | Bates says J. Jones, Forsett fit well in new scheme Tue Feb 9, 04:37 PM
The Associated Press reports Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates said RBs Julius Jones and Justin Forsett fit well in the new scheme the Seahawks will be running.
Footballguys view: We feel at this point Forsett is a much better back than Julius Jones, but the veteran does have a place on the team. If the Seahawks don't draft a running back this RBBC could be split down the middle. |
