Cowboys | Felix Jones to work out    Thu May 21, 11:45 AM

Free-agent RB Felix Jones (Steelers) is working out for the Dallas Cowboys Thursday, May 21.

Footballguys view: With oft-injured Darren McFadden the lead back, the Cowboys are looking to make sure they have enough backups. Jones is coming off of some staggeringly mediocre seasons with Dallas and Pittsburgh, so it's tough to see him having much impact with the Cowboys. If added, Jones would be reunited with McFadden, his former college teammate at Arkansas. Just add Peyton Hillis and you'll have the trio of Razorback teammates.

NFL | Felix Jones fails to impress    Sun Mar 22, 08:46 PM

Free-agent RB Felix Jones (Steelers) didn't show the 'boost' he was known for early in his career during his drills at the 2015 NFL Veteran Combine Sunday, March 22, according to Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network.

Footballguys view: Jones wasn't one of the players who was really going to impress at the veteran combine. It's a tough road for a running back in today's NFL. It doesn't help veterans like Jones that this draft class is chock full of strong running back talent.

Steelers | Not interested in Felix Jones    Fri Mar 28, 08:32 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers are not interested in re-signing free-agent RB Felix Jones this offseason.

Footballguys view: Jones is one of those veteran backs who may have to wait until injuries hit around the league in training camp.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell hopes to play    Mon Dec 2, 04:51 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (concussion) did some running Monday, Dec. 2, and is hoping to play in Week 14 against the Miami Dolphins after suffering a concussion in the team's Week 13 contest. 'I'm going to take it day by day and see where we're at,' Bell said. 'The goal is obviously to play but if (I'm) not able to I'm not able to.' Bell doesn't remember the hit but hasn't had many lingering effects from the violent collision. He took an ImPACT test Sunday, Dec. 1, and will have to pass more concussion tests before being cleared.

Footballguys view: Bell was on the receiving end of a nasty hit near the goal line against the Ravens. His helmet came off, and then his head hit the ground unprotected. Watch the practice report to see if the rookie back can be cleared later in the week.

Steelers | Big Ben unsure of Le'Veon Bell's return    Wed Sep 25, 02:23 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) is expected to make his season debut against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4, but QB Ben Roethlisberger isn't so sure of that. 'Honestly, I have no idea with him,' Roethlisberger said. 'You can't get a read on him. One day, he's practicing, one day, he's not; one day, he's going hard, the next day, he's not. I wish I could.' Bell was banged up in the preseason and only rushed four times for nine yards.

Footballguys view: The Steelers need something or someone to jump start the ground game. The answer could be Le'Veon Bell. Coming out of Michigan State Bell showed good footwork for a big man. He has build up power and build up speed through the hole. Bell can grind down opponents and would be a welcome addition to the Steelers offense.

Steelers | Isaac Redman sinks to bottom of depth chart    Tue Sep 24, 03:45 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman, the team's Week 1 starter at running back, is now listed as fourth on the depth chart behind RBs Felix Jones, Le'Veon Bell (foot) and Jonathan Dwyer, in that order. Jones is the team's leading rusher with 71 yards and is averaging 4.2 yards per carry.

Footballguys view: Redman hangs around for veteran depth but it's clear he's not he answer at the position. That answer may in fact be Bell, the rookie from Michigan State. Bell is expected to play in Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings, but they'll likely ease him back into the mix.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell expected to play    Tue Sep 24, 12:49 PM

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) is expected to play in the team's Week 4 game in London against the Minnesota Vikings. Bell has progressed ahead of schedule from his injury.

Footballguys view: Bell could get a bunch of touches against a Vikings defense that can be abused up front. The Steelers need a spark to their offense from the backfield and the rookie could provide it in easier matchups. If he does play then Bell is a "what the heck" flex in Week 4.

Steelers | Felix Jones to see more opps    Fri Sep 20, 01:30 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator said the team will try to get RB Felix Jones the ball more in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears. 'I thought he did a good job on the carries he had,' Haley said of Jones' effort in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals, when he ran 10 times for 37 yards. 'He found the holes that were there. We need to do a better job of creating some space for him because he does look like he has some ability if we can get him into some space.' The offensive line will use more of their zone blocking scheme this week.

Footballguys view: Jones is still only a desperation play against the tough Bears defense behind a mediocre at best offensive line.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell practices in full    Thu Sep 19, 04:32 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) practiced in full Thursday, Sept. 19. However, Bell doesn't think he'll be able to play in Week 3.

Footballguys view: Keep in mind that there was the earlier report about him "taking it slow" in his rehab. Still, the Steelers have to be doing cartwheels as the backfield in Pittsburgh is a mess. While he won't play against the Chicago Bears--and wouldn't be a safe start there anyway--he's clearly making progress and will be playing sooner than later. The question then becomes, will the offensive line issues hold him back and hamper his game?

Steelers | Jonathan Dwyer's role unclear    Thu Sep 12, 01:53 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jonathan Dwyer is unsure what his role will be heading into Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. 'They told me to get ready and play,' Dwyer said. 'I don't know exactly what I'm doing. I'm just getting myself ready to play.' The Steelers finished with only 32 total rushing yards in Week 1, the second lowest around the league, and RB Isaac Redman fumbled twice and had only eight carries for nine yards.

Footballguys view: He'll likely get his shot at some point, even though he is behind fumbling Isaac Redman and Felix Jones, who is still learning the offense. With Maurkice Pouncey on injured reserve and the offensive line playing poorly anyway, none of these backs are worth much. Redman might fill in at the flex spot, but you're better off avoiding this backfield entirely.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell could miss more time    Wed Sep 11, 10:56 AM

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell's (foot) injury is now being classified as a Lisfranc sprain, according to a source. The team is now hoping he returns in a month.

Footballguys view: More bad news for the Steelers here. In the meantime we'll see Isaac Redman, Felix Jones, and newly re-signed Jonathan Dwyer in the backfield. At this time Redman would be the one worth starting at a flex spot if you're truly desperate. You're better off if you can avoid this situation.

Steelers | Felix Jones not comfortable with offense    Tue Sep 10, 04:19 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Felix Jones is listed last on the team's running back depth chart, and head coach Mike Tomlin said Jones' lack of experience in the offense is the reason why he played very little in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans. Recently re-signed RB Jonathan Dwyer is even listed ahead of Jones.

Footballguys view: Jones isn't much of a fantasy factor now that he's buried on the depth chart in Pittsburgh. The entire RB rotation is just keeping the seat warm for rookie Le'Veon Bell. We should see Bell return from his foot injury in a few weeks, perhaps after the team's week 5 bye.

Steelers | Jonathan Dwyer returning    Mon Sep 9, 08:15 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers will re-sign RB Jonathan Dwyer.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Isaac Redman fumbled near the end zone and did not impress against the Titans. LaRod Stephens-Howling suffered a knee injury and is out for the season. Felix Jones barely played and missed badly in pass protection. We could see Dwyer get a majority of the carries until rookie Le'Veon Bell is back from his foot injury.

Steelers | Felix Jones, LaRod Stephens-Howling to see time    Wed Sep 4, 06:12 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RBs Felix Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling likely will receive playing time Week 1 even though RB Isaac Redman will start he game. Stephens-Howling is expected to be the third-down back while Jones likely will receive time when Redman needs a break.

Footballguys view: This is a RBBC while rookie Le'Veon Bell. None of the three backs in the committee have that much fantasy value. Redman would be at the top as the starter but he's a desperation flex play at best this week.

Steelers | Isaac Redman expects to start    Mon Sep 2, 02:23 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman said he expects to start while RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) is out of the lineup. Redman said the coaches do not want to use a committee at running back, and he does not want to give them a reason to use a committee.

Footballguys view: Redman is coming back from a pinched nerve that caused him to miss plenty of time in the preseason. Felix Jones is thought to be the starter at this time. Either way the team will use a RBBC with Redman, Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling while rookie Le'Veon Bell (foot) is out.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Felix Jones is expected to start Week 1. He likely vaulted ahead of RBs Isaac Redman and LaRod Stephens-Howling with 14 carries for 56 yards in the final preseason game.

Footballguys view: Interesting development here in Pittsburgh. Jones could get the nod over Isaac Redman who is still dealing with a pinched nerve. The team is going to use a RBBC with all three backs while rookie Le'Veon Bell is out. Bell is expected back in a few weeks from his foot injury.

Steelers | Three RBs expected to share time for now    Sun Sep 1, 12:32 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RBs Isaac Redman, Felix Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling are expected to share playing time until RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) is able to recover from his foot injury.

Footballguys view: The Steelers backfield wasn't that robust for fantasy football last year, and with this group of players, it is likely to yield very little value, perhaps even after Le'Veon Bell returns. We wouldn't recommend starting, or maybe even rostering any of the trio listed above, except maybe Redman if you are truly desperate.

Footballguys view: Dwyer has struggled with weight problems during his entire pro career. Some feel the Steelers were tired of his lack of motivation. We'll see Isaac Redman as the lead back while rookie Le'Veon Bell is out with a foot injury. Felix Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling will compete for touches as the reserve players.

Steelers | Felix Jones acquired    Fri Aug 23, 10:04 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired RB Felix Jones from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for LB Adrian Robinson.

Footballguys view: Both of these guys were likely to get cut by their teams, so this just amounts to a free tryout with a new team. Perhaps it indicates a little bit of anxiety on the Steelers' part about Le'Veon Bell, but you shouldn't be taking him before the ninth or tenth round at the very earliest anyway.

Philadelphia Eagles RB Felix Jones (ribs) injured his ribs during the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 15, and is scheduled to undergo X-rays.

Philadelphia Eagles RB Felix Jones (hamstring) left practice Tuesday, Aug. 6, due to a hamstring injury. The severity is not yet known.

Footballguys view: We'll see how severe this is before getting too concerned about it. Jones has durability problems that have haunted him throughout his pro career. We'll see if he can shake this latest problem and get back on the practice field. Jones is competing with Chris Polk to be the Eagles' RB3 behind LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown.

Eagles | Chris Polk, Felix Jones vie for job    Tue Aug 6, 12:18 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RBs Chris Polk and Felix Jones are battling for the No. 3 running back job behind RBs LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown. Polk has the familiarity of the offense of head coach Chip Kelly from his days in the Pac-12, while Jones has the advantage of also being useful in the kick return game.

Footballguys view: Polk has been impressing and reportedly lost weight and gained quickness and burst since last year. The way that the beat writers are raving about him, he could even push Brown for some carries if he holds off Jones. Whoever loses should stick somewhere once injuries strike elsewhere around the league at running back.

Eagles | Believe Felix Jones can contribute    Fri May 17, 06:00 PM

Footballguys view: Chip Kelly's offense at Oregon ran the ball 685 times in 2012. He may not run it that much this year with the Eagles but they will be a run heavy team. Jones gives them depth behind LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown. Playing as a third-string back with limited touches could help keep Jones fresh.

Eagles | Felix Jones does not know what his role will be    Tue May 14, 03:02 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Felix Jones does not know what his role will be with the team, or what type of offense the team plays. Jones does not want to get ahead of himself.

Footballguys view: Jones will find out soon enough. The Eagles are going to be a run heavy offense under Chip Kelly. Last year the Oregon Ducks ran the ball 685 times under Kelly and featured the inside zone read. That offense should be exciting to watch because the spread and the tempo. The team needs quality talent at the RB position and Jones will compete with Chris Polk and Miguel Maysonet to be the third-string RB behind LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown.

Eagles | Felix Jones signs    Tue May 14, 08:29 AM

It seems like it has been a foregone conclusion, but the Dallas Cowboys are unlikely to bring back impending free-agent RB Felix Jones. The team is looking for durable players at the running back position, and Jones has been anything but durable during his Cowboys career.

Packers | Searching for lead back    Fri Jan 18, 01:17 PM

The Green Bay Packers feel the need to find a lead back heading into the 2013 season, and that man may not be on the current roster. The Packers shuffled through as many as six running backs this season and weren't satisfied with any of their options. Among the unrestricted free agents they could target this offseason include St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson, Miami Dolphins RB Reggie Bush, Dallas Cowboys RB Felix Jones and New York Jets RB Shonn Greene. Green Bay would likely be interested in Jackson in the secondary market because he'll be 30 this year.

Footballguys view: The Packers had the right idea when they signed Cedric Benson last year but he couldn't stay healthy and missed most of the season. James Starks hasn't worked out and Alex Green got a shot this year but failed to impress. DuJuan Harris is a great change of pace back but some think he's only a change of pace back.
