Colts | Donald Jones to work out    Tue Jul 23, 09:17 AM

The Indianapolis Colts will work out free-agent WR Donald Jones (Patriots) Wednesday, July 24.

Footballguys view: The Colts could use some WR help, especially while second-year WR LaVon Brazill serves his four-game suspension. Jones is working out for the Titans as well.

Titans | Donald Jones working out    Tue Jul 23, 09:14 AM

The Tennessee Titans will work out free-agent WR Donald Jones (Patriots) Tuesday, July 23.

Footballguys view: The Titans may just be updating their emergency list here. Jones would have a difficult time making the final roster with guys like Kenny Britt, Nate Washington, Kendall Wright, rookie Justin Hunter, Damian Williams, and Kevin Walter already on the roster.

Patriots | Donald Jones had bonus due    Fri Jul 19, 05:13 PM

The New England Patriots were scheduled to pay WR Donald Jones a $200,000 bonus for reporting to camp before they decided to release him.

Footballguys view: Jones did not do enough to earn that, which should tell you his future in the NFL. He might catch on with another team that has less complicated roles for wide receivers, but it could be a wait until someone gets hurt for Jones.

Patriots | Donald Jones released    Fri Jul 19, 04:32 PM

The New England Patriots have released WR Donald Jones. The team has also signed free-agent WR Perez Ashford (Browns) and undrafted free-agent WR Quentin Sims (Tennessee-Martin). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Ashford is a Matt Waldman favorite because of his terrific hands and ball skills. The Patriots also have UDFA rookies Kenbrell Thompkins and Mark Harrison, so a lot of their wide receivers in camp will be rookies learning the ropes.

Patriots | Will cut Donald Jones    Fri Jul 19, 03:54 PM

The New England Patriots will waive WR Donald Jones.

Footballguys view: This is a good sign for UDFA rookie Kenbrell Thompkins, who was getting first-team snaps in OTAs. Rapoport tweeted that the Patriots want to get their "young guys" more reps, which surely mean Thompkins, as second-round pick Aaron Dobson has been getting plenty of reps. Fourth-round pick Josh Boyce should also get a longer look.

Patriots | WR Jones further down the depth chart than expected    Sat Jun 15, 06:21 PM

New England Patriots WR Donald Jones looks further down the depth chart than some expected. The free agent addition from the Bills has not been able to get any first-team reps this offseason.

Footballguys view: Jones is currently behind Michael Jenkins, Kamar Aiken, and Kendbrell Thompkins on the depth chart. Many thought the veteran could be a starter as the primary downfield target for the Patriots in 2013. At this time veteran Michael Jenkins seems to be the frontrunner.

Patriots | Two WRs could compete for one spot    Thu May 2, 02:57 PM

New England Patriots WRs Donald Jones and Michael Jenkins may have to compete for one roster spot during offseason workouts and training camp because of the additions of WRs Aaron Dobson, Josh Boyce and Julian Edelman.

Footballguys view: The roster spots will be cramped for the Patriots. The team needs to find a cure to their deep passing woes. Over the last five seasons, only 11.8% of the Patriots passes to WRs have been more than 20 yards downfield, second lowest rate in NFL.

Patriots | Danny Amendola tops potential depth chart    Sat Apr 27, 11:48 PM

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola is projected as the team's starting 'Z' receiver, with WR Julian Edelman, Donald Jones and Jeremy Ebert chasing the newcomer for the top spot on the depth chart.

Footballguys view: Edelman won't beat Amendola out, but he could step right into Amendola's role if he gets hurt - which has been a regular occurrence for the Patriots new addition at wide receiver. He is worth the rare WR handcuff in deep dynasty leagues.

Patriots | Donald Jones signed     Fri Mar 15, 11:13 AM

The New England Patriots have signed free-agent WR Donald Jones (Bills) to an undisclosed deal.

Footballguys view: Jones wasn't a big producer in Buffalo and is not guaranteed a roster spot. He needs to stay healthy in order to impress his new team. Jones has position versatility and good downfield speed.

Bills | Donald Jones surprised about no offer    Thu Feb 7, 09:00 PM

Free-agent WR Donald Jones (Bills) said he was surprised that the Buffalo Bills did not tender him an offer but it will give him a chance to join another team. 'It was pretty upsetting to get the call today,' Jones said. 'It kind of was a shock. But it is what it is. Now me and my family will move forward to another team and hopefully I get to play against the Bills.'

Footballguys view: Jones is a nice reserve WR but the Bills needed to upgrade their backup WR position. He's got the speed to be a factor after the catch and should have a few teams interested in his services.

Bills | Donald Jones not returning    Thu Feb 7, 05:51 PM

The Buffalo Bills will not be tendering WR Donald Jones. "We have made the decision not to re-sign Donald," said general manager Buddy Nix. "We're going in a different direction and this move today gives Donald the opportunity to catch on with another team early on in the process. We thank him for his years with our organization and wish him the best in the future."

Footballguys view: Negotiations must have fallen apart with the veteran wideout. Earlier today it was reported the two sides were in contract negotiations.

Bills | Donald Jones working on contract extension    Thu Feb 7, 12:56 PM

The Buffalo Bills and WR Donald Jones are working on a contract extension, according to a league source. Both sides are hoping to have a new deal in place before free agency kicks off March 12, when he's scheduled to become a restricted free agent. Jones caught 41 passes for 443 yards and four touchdowns last season.

Footballguys view: Jones will be in the mix for WR depth with the Bills in 2013. We still see them adding a true WR1 to start opposite Steve Johnson through the draft or free agency.

Buffalo Bills WR Donald Jones (undisclosed) said he will be ready for offseason workouts after being placed on the Non-Football Illness injury in December.   Bills | Two WRs could receive middle tender     Fri Jan 4, 03:21 PM

The Buffalo Bills may place the second-round tenders on restricted free-agent WRs Donald Jones and David Nelson this offseason. The team would not receive any compensation if they placed the lowest tender on the receivers and allowed them to leave because both were undrafted free agents.

Footballguys view: The Bills need to upgrade their WR corps. Adding a true number one to make Stevie Johnson a WR2 should be near the top of their agenda. Finding a franchise QB to throw them the ball would also help.

Bills | Stevie Johnson critical of play call    Wed Nov 14, 07:25 AM

Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson second-guessed why a more experienced wide receiver wasn't targeted on a Week 10 play that ended with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing an interception into the end zone to seal a 37-31 loss. Johnson also came to WR T.J. Graham's defense, saying the rookie receiver shouldn't be faulted for running the wrong route because he had never attempted it in practice. 'I don't think it was the wrong play. But just the whole thing leading up to it,' Johnson said, noting that he, WR Donald Jones and TE Scott Chandler were more familiar at running the route. 'We had people in positions where maybe they shouldn't have been. So who knows what would've happened if it was Donald, me or Scott there. So it's no blame on T.J. at all, because he's never run that route in practice or in a game.'

Bills | Stevie Johnson leads way in Week 6    Sun Oct 14, 09:12 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson posted game-highs with six receptions for 82 yards in the Week 6 overtime win against the Arizona Cardinals. WR Donald Jones was the next best wideout, but he had just one catch for nine yards. WR T.J. Graham also got on the board with a six-yard grab on his only touch.

Footballguys view: Johnson was very physical with Patrick Peterson, just as he is with Darrelle Revis, and the decent stat line shows it. Johnson is the clear primary target in the passing game, and he will be worth a start as a WR2 next week vs the Titans.

Bills | WR roles more clearly defined    Tue Sep 11, 03:56 PM

With the Buffalo Bills signing RB Johnny White, it more clearly defines the roles of the wide receivers on the roster. With how practices went in the offseason, it appears that WR Donald Jones has the inside track to get the most reps at the slot wide receiver position after the injury to David Nelson (knee) in Week 1.

Footballguys view: Rookie T.J. Graham will work as the Z receiver opposite of Stevie Johnson. We like Graham's speed and fearless nature but his routes and concentration need improvement.

Bills | Donald Jones holding onto starting job    Thu Aug 16, 01:16 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Donald Jones had performed well during training camp and continues to hold onto the starting wide receiver spot opposite WR Stevie Johnson.

Footballguys view: David Nelson will be the team's slot WR with Jones winning the WR2 job. The Bills will spread out the field with their passing game, but Jones isn't an exciting fantasy option in most traditional leagues.

Bills | Coach explains why Donald Jones saw time in slot    Fri Jul 13, 03:05 PM

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said WR Donald Jones saw a lot of time in the slot during offseason workouts because they know what Jones can do on the outside and wanted to see if he would be comfortable playing in the slot.

Footballguys view: Jones is a versatile player who can play inside or outside. We like Jones as a slot WR because of his speed, quickness, and run after the catch ability. If he regains his confidence Jones could be a nice waiver wire addition during the season.

Bills | Marcus Easley to battle for No. 2 WR job    Sat Jun 23, 09:17 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Marcus Easley impressed the coaching staff during organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp, and he saw more reps with the first unit as practices progressed. He'll be trying to hold off WRs Donald Jones and rookie T.J. Graham, among others, for the starting job opposite WR Stevie Johnson.

Footballguys view: Easley is arguably the most talented WR on the roster behind Johnson. He's got a great size/speed combination and does a good job of boxing defenders out away from his frame. Injuries have prevented Easley from playing up to his potential as a pro. If he can stay healthy he could make for a nice sleeper pick in fantasy leagues.

Bills | Donald Jones confident he is No. 2 WR     Thu Jun 21, 09:48 AM

Buffalo Bills WR Donald Jones said he is preparing as if he will emerge as the team's No. 2 wide receiver this upcoming season. 'I feel like I have something to prove every season, but definitely this year,' Jones said. '... In my eyes I am the No. 2 receiver. I'll conduct myself in that manner.'

Footballguys view: David Nelson should work as the team's slot WR if Jones is the WR2 opposite Steve Johnson. Jones has good speed and is quick in and out of his breaks, but we don't see him being much of a fantasy factor in 2012. He's going undrafted in most standard 12-team leagues.

Buffalo Bills WR Donald Jones, Marcus Easley and Derek Hagan are expected to be the main candidates for the No. 2 wide receiver job during training camp.

Footballguys view: Easley is the most talented WR in this group, but injuries have prevented him from playing up to his potential in his pro career. However, at this time it sounds like Jones is pulling ahead slightly in the competition.

Bills | Donald Jones seeing a lot of time in slot    Wed Jun 13, 03:23 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Donald Jones has been seeing a lot of time as a slot receiver during offseason workouts even though he is considered the frontrunner for the No. 2 wide receiver job.

Footballguys view: Jones has failed to make an impact in his limited opportunities. Marcus Easley is more physically talented and David Nelson might be better suited for the role in the slot. The reality is that it's hard to picture a Bills wide receiver other than Stevie Johnson having a big fantasy impact this year.

Bills | Donald Jones has early lead for No. 2 WR job    Mon Jun 11, 02:48 PM

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said WR Donald Jones is currently the frontrunner for the No. 2 wide receiver job but there is a long way to go before the start of the season.

Footballguys view: Marcus Easley is a better physical talent, and Derek Hagan should also have something to say in the battle for this position. David Nelson has the slot held down, and the Bills will also throw to their running backs, so the number two in this offense might not be fantasy-friendly.

Bills | WR Hagan working with starters in OTAs    Tue May 29, 06:46 PM

Mark Gaughan, from the Buffalo News, reports Bills WR Derek Hagan is working with the first-team while Stevie Johnson recovers from offseason groin surgery.

Footballguys view: Hagan started opposite Donald Jones as the Bills first-team offense put in their work. David Nelson is working as the team's slot WR, and deep dynasty league owners shouldn't forget about Marcus Easley. Injuries have kept him from playing up to his potential, but he's arguably the most athletically talented out of the Bills WR behind Johnson.
