Giants | Daniel Jones does some work    Wed Dec 11, 01:51 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones (ankle) is limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 11.

Footballguys view: He's not out of it yet. Reports on Tuesday indicated that Jones would need to miss 2-4 weeks with this injury. Reports on Wednesday suggest the Giants may try to rush him back. Eli Manning did a decent job against the Eagles, so we don't see the rush with the rookie. Whatever the case may be, monitor his status during the week of practice.

Giants | Chance for Daniel Jones to start?    Tue Dec 10, 09:41 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones (ankle) hasn't yet been ruled out by head coach Pat Shurmur for the game Sunday, Dec. 15, against the Miami Dolphins. Shurmur said Tuesday, Dec. 10, the reported 2-4 week timetable for Jones' return is 'not accurate,' and when the rookie is able to start, he will.

Footballguys view: Keep an eye on his status as the week of practice goes on. There have been speculative reports that the Giants would try to get him back out there ASAP. Eli Manning didn't perform poorly on Monday night against the Eagles, so rushing Jones back doesn't make a lot of sense. Stay tuned.

Giants | Daniel Jones likely out    Wed Dec 4, 11:12 AM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones (ankle) is in a walking boot with a mild high ankle sprain and will likely be out for Week 14.

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones (ankle) 'got his ankle twisted' in Week 13 versus the Green Bay Packers but is 'fine' Monday, Dec. 2, according to head coach Pat Shurmur.

Giants | Daniel Jones finishes three INTs    Sun Dec 1, 05:13 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones went 20-for-37 for 240 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions against the Green Bay Packers in Week 13.

Footballguys view: Jones was a game competitor in his first ever snow game, but he was overmatched in this one. He'll face an easier opponent next week in Philadelphia in a QB2/Superflex worthy spot.

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones completed 21-of-36 passes for 150 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 12 against the Chicago Bears and he ran for 27 more yards.

Footballguys view: Jones joined the long list of quarterbacks Khalil Mack has strip-sacked, and only had success on a fourth down desperation heave and an easy play action score. He'll face a much easier draw when the Packers come to East Rutherford next week.

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones went 26-for-40 for 308 yards and four touchdowns against the New York Jets in Week 10. He also led the team in rushing with 20 yards but did fumble three times.

Footballguys view: Jones was hot until the fourth quarter, when he couldn't get his team over the hump. He also allowed Jamal Adams to take the ball away from him for a touchdown, but was a fantasy success in a good matchup heading into his bye.

Giants | Daniel Jones facing most pressure    Sat Nov 9, 02:47 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones has been under pressure on 43.7 percent of his dropbacks this season -- the most among quarterbacks with at least 150 dropbacks.

Footballguys view: Jones has been handling the pressure well considering he's a rookie. He's also been missing key weapons in the passing game on a weekly basis. Now that the Giants have their quarterback of the future, they need to work diligently to find him better protection.

Giants | Daniel Jones throws four TDs    Sun Oct 27, 05:21 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones went 28-for-41 for 322 yards and four touchdowns against the Detroit Lions in Week 8.

Footballguys view: Jones put the ball where Darius Slayton could win it in the air on two touchdowns and looked more than capable in his best game since his scintillating starting debut against the Bucs. He'll be a solid QB2/Superflex going forward, facing a rested Cowboys defense next week.

Giants | Daniel Jones vows to improve    Sat Oct 12, 12:54 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones refused to offer any excuses after completing 15-of-31 passes for 161 yards and three interceptions in a 35-14 loss to the New England Patriots on Thursday, Oct. 10. 'The biggest thing for me is to prevent making a mistake twice,' Jones said. 'I don't think the fact that I'm young or the fact I haven't played as much isn't an excuse. I'm not going to use that to help myself feel better. They're still really bad mistakes, and things I can't afford to do. I need to be able to learn from those and prevent them from happening again.'

Footballguys view: Jones looked like a rookie against the Patriots on Thursday night. It will greatly help the young quarterback when the weapons around him are healthy. Fantasy GMs are only interested in Jones from a dynasty perspective.

Giants | Daniel Jones struggles in loss    Thu Oct 10, 11:41 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones completed 15 of his 31 passes for 161 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions and had two carries for eight yards in a 35-14 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 6.

Footballguys view: Jones didn't stand a chance against the NFL's best defense while missing three of his best four skill players. Hopefully he'll get back Saquon Barkley and Evan Engram next week against the Cardinals. Sterling Shepard could be out for longer than that with his second concussion of the season.

Giants | Daniel Jones finishes for 182 yards    Sun Oct 6, 05:54 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones went 21-for-38 for 182 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5.

Footballguys view: Jones predictably struggled against the very tough Vikings defense. He was able to hook up with the rookie Darius Slayton on a deep touchdown but otherwise didn't move the ball with consistency. He'll just want to get out of the game healthy against New England on Thursday night.

Giants | Daniel Jones throws for 225 yards    Sun Sep 29, 04:40 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones went 23-for-31 for 225 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions against the Washington Redskins in Week 4. He also rushed for 33 yards on five carries during the game.

Footballguys view: Jones had a few mistakes in this one but mostly took advantage of a poor Washington defense, albeit to a middling fantasy result. Next week against the Vikings will be tougher, but he will get Golden Tate back. Jones is more viable in 2QB/Superflex in typical leagues now that he has cooled off.

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones completed 23-of-36 passes for 336 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in his first-career start. He also rushed four times for 28 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning score late in the fourth quarter.

Giants | Daniel Jones named starter    Tue Sep 17, 10:18 AM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones was named the starting quarterback for Week 3. He will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Footballguys view: We all knew this day was coming and Eli Manning's poor performance to start the season has prompted this move perhaps sooner than some thought. Jones is athletic and can keep plays alive with his feet while keeping his eyes downfield. There are shades of Carson Wentz to his game but he's not quite as physically gifted as the Eagles starter. The Giants don't have the greatest weapons in the passing game but Jones could lean on a guy like TE Evan Engram. We'll see how the Giants respond to this big change.

Giants | Daniel Jones named backup    Fri Aug 30, 10:07 AM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones will back up QB Eli Manning to open the season, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur and co-owner John Mara said. Jones went 4-for-4 for 47 yards in the final preseason tilt Thursday, Aug. 29. He finished the preseason 29-for-34 for 416 yards and two touchdowns.

Footballguys view: It's only a matter of time before Jones starts. If Manning struggles against Dallas, Buffalo, Tampa, and Washington to open the season, Jones could get the call in October.

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones completed nine of his 11 pass attempts for 141 yards in a 25-23 preseason win over the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, Aug. 22.

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones made his preseason debut and completed all five of his pass attempts for 67 yards and a touchdown in a 31-21 win over the New York Jets Thursday, Aug. 8.

Footballguys view: Jones silenced doubters for now, but the team is downplaying the chance of a true quarterback controversy entering the season. If this trend continues, they won't be able to quiet the calls for Jones getting the start.

Giants | Daniel Jones showing off arm    Fri Aug 2, 11:03 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones 'throws a really good deep ball,' according to WR Russell Shepard. 'One of the better deep balls I've seen, especially at this point of his career,' Shepard said.

Footballguys view: Jones has a decent arm but the main thing that stands out about his game (from his college tape) is his athleticism. He's got a dash of Carson Wentz to his game in terms of rushing ability, but Jones is far from being as polished as Wentz when it comes to passing. We'll see if/when Jones can unseat Eli Manning for the top spot on the depth chart with the Giants.

Giants | Daniel Jones ahead of the curve    Thu Jul 25, 12:42 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones has 'exceeded expectations' so far and has impressed with his smarts, throwing ability and mobility, head coach Pat Shurmur said Thursday, July 25. 'We really haven't seen anything he can't do in terms of playing quarterback,' Shurmur added.

Footballguys view: With every positive Jones blurb, it raises the question even more of when he'll start. It won't be Week 1 out of deference to Eli Manning, but it might not be that far into the season if Manning's game continues to decline.

Giants | Daniel Jones agrees to terms with NYG    Mon Jul 22, 09:30 PM

New York Giants first-round draft choice QB Daniel Jones agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Giants Monday, July 22, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the contract will include a fifth-year option.

Footballguys view: Jones is seen as the quarterback of the future and will compete with Eli Manning for the starting job in training camp. Manning should win the job out of camp, but if the team struggles they could move on to Jones. He's athletic and known for his high football intelligence. Jones does not have a strong arm but is mechanically sound and reminds some in the scouting community of Ryan Tannehill. We'll see how quickly he can take over for the Giants.

Giants | Eli Manning not in QB competition    Mon Jul 22, 03:07 PM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning is not competing with rookie first-round QB Daniel Jones for the starting job during training camp, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

Footballguys view: This after a lot of buzz that Jones looked better than Manning - or at least more promising - in OTAs. Manning might be the starter Week 1, but it seems clear that he will sit if the season is lost, and it's possible that he declines enough to force the team's hand before that. This will still be a situation to watch this summer to presage in-season developments.

Giants | Eli Manning dismisses QB competition    Fri Jun 28, 06:35 PM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he does not believes he is in a competition with QB Daniel Jones for the starting job. 'I mean no, I don't feel like it's a competition,' Manning said. 'I feel like I've got to do my job and I've got to compete every day and try to get better every day. That's the way it's been my whole life and that's just the way I've always approached practice every day to improve, to earn my place on the team, to earn the respect of the teammates and do it each year.' Manning said he has no problem helping Jones improve.

Footballguys view: Manning has gotten a lot of deference from the current Giants regime, but observers said Jones looked better than him in the spring and he'll be on the spot to reverse that momentum in camp. Either way, the Giants will be one of the bottom ten teams in quarterback play this year.
