Packers | Aaron Jones cuts body fat in half    Thu May 30, 03:43 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones checked into the team's off-season program with a 5.3 percent body fat, down from roughly 11 percent last season, while maintaining his usual weight of 204 to 205 pounds. He made the transformation by removing chips, candy, cookies, soda and Gatorade from his diet.

Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs are excited about Jones this year. In the new Matt LaFluer offense, Jones could do a lot of damage as a runner or receiver. His current ADP is RB19 (3.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Packers | Aaron Jones could be every-down back    Wed Feb 27, 09:33 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones is capable of being an every-down back if he is able to improve his conditioning, according to general manager Brian Gutekunst.

Footballguys view: That's cool and correct but it kind of goes against what new Packers head coach Matt LaFleur suggested at the combine. Packers RBs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are expected to be utilized in a committee approach, according to LaFleur. We'll get a better feel of the Packers approach to their running backs when camp kicks off in the summer.

Packers | Backfield committee for Green Bay?    Wed Feb 27, 02:22 PM

Green Bay Packers RBs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are expected to be utilized in a committee approach, according to new head coach Matt LaFleur. LaFleur said the running back position is one of the more violent positions in the league considering the punishment absorbed.

Footballguys view: Here we go again with LaFleur. Last year with the Titans as their OC, LaFleur used both Dion Lewis and Derrick Henry to begin the season. Later in the year he did feature Henry as the lead back with great success. The Packers don't have anyone like Henry on the roster, so this could be RBBC for the entirety of the 2019 season so long as everyone stays healthy.

Packers | Aaron Jones set league pace    Fri Feb 1, 12:43 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones led the league with his average of 5.5 rushing yards per attempt during the regular season. 'I've always felt like I've belonged in the conversation as one of the top backs,' Jones said Friday, Feb. 1, in an interview with NFL Network.

Footballguys view: Jones is retaining his running backs coach in the new regime and it is unknown how much Mike McCarthy held back his workload last year. He might end up being worth the third/fourth round pick he'll likely cost in drafts this year.

Packers | Aaron Jones an IR victim    Tue Dec 18, 04:07 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Footballguys view: Jones sees his 2018 season cut short once again. He was suspended the first two games of the season and saw action in 12 contests this year. Jones finishes the season with 133 carries for 729 rushing yards and 8 rushing touchdowns, plus he added 26 catches for 206 receiving yards and 1 receiving touchdown. The Packers move forward with Jamaal Williams as their lead back for the rest of the year.

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones (knee) suffered a knee injury during the Week 15 game and is considered questionable to return.

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones rushed 17 times for 78 yards and a touchdown in Week 14 against the Atlanta Falcons and he added three grabs for 28 yards on his three targets. He has at least one rushing score in five straight outings.

Footballguys view: Jones actually didn't start for some reason, but he still came through for fantasy teams. He'll have a tough matchup next week at Chicago but will still be in lineups as an RB2.

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones rushed 11 times for 40 yards and a touchdown and caught five passes for 63 yards and a score in a 27-24 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 11.

Footballguys view: Jones got off to a strong start as a runner, but the Packers never really committed to the running game. He had his best game as a pro in the passing game, including a nice downfield route to score from 24. He's an RB1 with little resistance from Jamaal Williams heading into Minnesota next week.

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones was given a vote of confidence by QB Aaron Rodgers, who said the Packers need to keep giving the second-year running back more opportunities.

Footballguys view: Most Fantasy GMs would agree with Rodgers. The superstar QB added that Jones helped the offense secure first downs and was an asset in the red zone.

Packers | Jamaal Williams to become third-down back?    Wed Oct 31, 02:29 AM

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams is likely to get 'most' of the third-down work, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Tom Silverstein, who indicated RB Aaron Jones should receive the majority of the early-down touches.

Footballguys view: It's interesting to have a power back like Williams in on third downs. In seven games this year, Williams has been targeted 17 times and has only eight catches. Jones is arguably a better receiving back and in five games this year he has been targeted eight times and has six catches. It will be interesting to see who gets the most work as a receiver out of the backfield now that Ty Montgomery has been traded to the Ravens.

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones appears unlikely to emerge from the team's three-headed backfield anytime soon, as head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters Monday, Oct. 8, that he would 'love' to get Jones more work before adding 'there's more to the position than just running the football.'

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones rushed 11 times for 65 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 game against the Buffalo Bills and he added a 17-yard catch on his only target.

Footballguys view: Jones is clearly the best runner in this backfield, but the Packers committed to a three-way committee again , limiting Jones upside. He's still the best Packers back to have on your fantasy team and he deserves a flex or maybe even matchup RB2 look against the Lions porous run defense next week.

Packers | Aaron Jones impressed in debut    Thu Sep 27, 09:06 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones has 'definitely got some explosiveness,' according to offensive coordinator Joe Philbin. 'There were a couple runs where he definitely made some things happen on his own,' Philbin said.

Footballguys view: There's universal agreement that Jones is the best runner of the Packers trio, but the team also has two running backs that are better in the passing game than Jones. We'll see how this shakes out, but Jones has the highest speculative value of the three while the committee is in force.

Packers | Aaron Jones officially activated    Wed Sep 19, 05:45 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones was activated from his two-game suspension Wednesday, Sept. 19. CB Deante Burton was released in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Word is the Packers are going to ease Jones back into the lineup. That makes Jamaal Williams the lead back again...for now. As soon as Jones is up to speed, he will push Williams for the top spot in the backfield.

Packers | Aaron Jones won't start right away    Wed Sep 19, 01:21 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones will play behind RBs Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery in his return from a two-game suspension, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Footballguys view: Jones is going to get eased back into the mix...at least that's what reporters around the team are speculating. That means Jamaal Williams should be the lead ball carrier for the Packers again this week. They travel to play Washington on Sunday and we see Williams as a RB3 for Fantasy GMs.

Packers | Aaron Jones scores in preseason finale    Fri Aug 31, 01:13 AM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones carried nine times for 34 yards and a touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, Aug. 30. He added three receptions for 21 yards.

Footballguys view: Jones playing in the fourth preseason game is more evidence that he is seen as a backup to Jamaal Williams heading into the season. Jones also missed weeks of practice with a hamstring injury, so getting him game action was important for making sure he didn't have a setback. He's only a bench stash going into the season with a two-game suspension.

Packers | Aaron Jones returns    Sun Aug 12, 02:54 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones was back at practice Sunday, Aug. 12. Jones had been sidelined since the first week of training camp with a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: Jones is serving a two-game suspension to begin the season, so he needs to give the Packers coaches something to think about. Jamaal Williams will have a good chance to assert himself as the leader of the backfield, but he'll have to do it against the tough Chicago and Minnesota run defenses.

Packers | Aaron Jones remains sidelined    Tue Aug 7, 02:40 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones (hamstring) is still not participating in practice Tuesday, Aug. 7.

Packers | Aaron Jones remains sidelined    Thu Aug 2, 03:13 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 2.

Footballguys view: Jones, who is suspended for the first two games of the season, is already looking up at Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery. The sooner Jones is back, the better his chances of getting his share of carries back after his suspension. His ADP has already dropped to 42, while Williams has become the 34th back coming off the board. The situation could end up a bit muddy, but it looks like Williams has the edge.

Packers | Aaron Jones expects to return this week    Mon Jul 30, 03:10 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones (hamstring) said his injured hamstring is feeling good and expects to return to the practice field by Thursday, Aug. 2. He said he could play if the team had a game today.

Footballguys view: Jones is in a battle to be the starting back for the Packers. Some around the team (beat writers, bloggers) feel that Jones could be the lead back. He arguably has the most well-rounded skill set of the group competing for the top spot. Jones is competing with power back Jamaal Williams and converted receiver Ty Montgomery for the starting job.

Packers | Aaron Jones still idle    Mon Jul 30, 11:26 AM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones (hamstring) won't practice Monday, July 30, and there's no timetable for his return from hamstring tightness.

Footballguys view: Not a good look for a player that is going to miss the first two games of the season due to a suspension. We'll be watching this closely, as it could clarify a muddled backfield picture. Jones was the best pure runner in the backfield last year, but he lacks the passing down skills of Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery,

Packers | Aaron Jones to emerge as starter?    Wed Jul 18, 12:48 AM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones will end up as the team's starting running back this season in the opinion of USA Today Network Wisconsin's Stu Courtney.

Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs are cautious when it comes to projecting the starter for the Packers in 2018. Jamaal Williams has the highest ADP of their group (RB36, 7.11) but Jones is close behind him at RB41 (9.01) in 12-team PPR leagues. Behind those two is Ty Montgomery, sitting at RB43 (9.07) as of right now. We'll see this battle shake out during training camp with each back bringing a unique skill set to the competition. Williams is the banger while Montgomery is the better receiver. Jones is arguably the best all-purpose back of the group. Stay tuned.

Packers | Aaron Jones another suspension victim    Tue Jul 3, 04:07 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones has been suspended for the first two games of the 2018 season for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

Footballguys view: The Packers backfield could get even more complicated with this development, but it could also be clarified if Jamaal Williams has a strong first two games in Jones' absence. Williams was the better all-around back last year, but Jones was the better runner. The Packers could go full RBBC with Ty Montgomery in the mix. Williams ADP could uptick ahead of Jones on this news, making Jones a better value. Green Bay opens with the solid Bears run defense and smothering Vikings run defense, so Williams might have to score or pile up receptions to have a strong first two games of the season.

Packers | Aaron Jones has added weight    Mon Jul 2, 03:14 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones said he's bigger all around this offseason after spending more time in the weight room. Bulking up was a priority for Jones in an effort to improve his pass blocking and to sustain the wear and tear of the NFL. Neither Jones nor running backs coach Ben Sirmans believe more pounds have slowed down Jones.

Footballguys view: Jones is still going off early draft boards at 39, so in general this news like news we've seen about Jones before, isn't really moving the needle for Fantasy owners. We are still not sure how the backfield shakes out here, so if you're drafting this early you're going to either have to avoid it or roll the dice and hope whichever guy you get - Jamaal Williams or Jones - is the right pick.

Packers | Aaron Jones needs to improve blocking    Thu Jun 28, 02:32 AM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones needs to improve his work in pass protection to see more time on the field, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Aaron Nagler, who says Jones is lagging behind RB Jamaal Williams in that department.

Footballguys view: That gives Jamaal Williams a little leg up, but we've got a lot of summer to go. Williams is going as the 33rd running back off the board now, while Jones is hovering at 39. Both could be decent values but this early on, the job could go either way or, painfully, it could be an RBBC, so tread carefully.

Packers | Green Bay to use committee at RB    Mon Jun 18, 01:25 PM

Green Bay Packers RBs Ty Montgomery, Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones will be part of a committee at running back this upcoming season, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. McCarthy said the team will be able to adjust if one of the running backs shows they can be the full-time starter.

Footballguys view: This sounds about right. We should see Williams as the primary banger for the Packers offense as he can grind down opponents with multiple carries. Montgomery can be utilized effectively as a receiving back who could thrive if/when the Packers use a fast break offense. Jones is a good all-around back who might get a few touches here and there. Fantasy owners are currently taking Williams at RB45 (10.03) and Montgomery at RB42 (9.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Packers | Ty Montgomery to have big role?    Mon Jun 11, 04:06 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery seems to be set for a big role in 2018, according to ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky. Head coach Mike McCarthy said the offense is suited for Montgomery's skill set and the Packers need to take advantage of that. Nevertheless, McCarthy admitted that he will continue to take a committee approach with the backfield with RBs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams included.

Footballguys view: Williams could be the lead back for the Packers, mostly because of his size and ability to grind opponents down. Montgomery, a converted wide receiver, could get work as a pass-catching back and could get plenty of work when the Packers use a 'fast break' offense. Both ADPs for Williams and Montgomery are close at this time. Williams is going off the board at RB42 (9.06) and Montgomery at RB45 (10.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Packers | Aaron Jones pleads no contest    Fri Mar 2, 02:17 AM

The judge accepted his plea to a traffic citation for driving with a controlled substance in his system, while dismissing tickets for speeding and operating without a license. Jones was fined $1,047, had his license suspended for six months and was ordered to undergo an alcohol assessment.

Footballguys view: Expect Jones to get punished by the league. Jones is expected to split touches with Jamaal Williams in the Packers backfield this season.
