Rams | Tyler Johnson re-signing with Rams    Sun Mar 31, 04:41 PM

Free-agent WR Tyler Johnson is re-signing with the Los Angeles Rams, per his agency on Sunday, March 31. The terms of the contract were not immediately disclosed.

Footballguys view: Johnson spent most of the 2023 season on the Rams' practice squad, but the former fifth-round pick will get a chance to move up in the rotation in his second year in Sean McVay's offense. Of course, move up is relative. With Puka Nacua, Cooper Kupp, newly-re-signed Demarcus Robinson, and Tutu Atwell at the top of the depth chart, Johnson's work is cut out for him.

Rams | Tyler Johnson heading to Rams    Wed May 31, 01:34 AM

Free-agent WR Tyler Johnson (Texans) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday, May 30.

Footballguys view: A fifth-round pick out of Minnesota in the 2020 NFL draft, Johnson has spent time with the Texans and the Buccaneers. The Rams are his third team as he enters his fourth pro season. He had a career-high 36 catches for 360 yards in 2021, but Johnson hasn't scored a receiving touchdown since his rookie season of 2020.

Texans | Tyler Johnson gets the boot    Tue Oct 25, 04:19 PM

Houston Texans WR Tyler Johnson was waived Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Footballguys view: The Texans added Tyron Johnson on Tuesday, so Tyler Johnson was made expendable. A fifth-round pick (Buccaneers) out of Minnesota in the 2020 NFL draft, Tyler Johnson has not flashed much as a pro with a couple of different teams. He's a player who might get some attention on the waiver wire in the NFL, but from a fantasy perspective we're moving on in super deep dynasty formats.

Texans | Tyler Johnson lands in Houston    Wed Aug 31, 12:52 PM

The Houston Texans claimed WR Tyler Johnson off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday, Aug. 31.

Footballguys view: Johnson flashed some talent during his time with the Buccaneers. A fifth-round pick out of Minnesota in the 2020 NFL draft, Johnson has a nice size/speed combination. He'll continue to develop as the Texans' no.5 receiver behind Brandin Cooks, Nico Collins, Phillip Dorsett, and Chris Moore.

Buccaneers | Tyler Johnson waived    Tue Aug 30, 11:04 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Tyler Johnson was waived Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Footballguys view: Johnson was a fifth-round pick out of Minnesota in the 2020 NFL draft. He's got a nice size/speed combination, and some team might want to take a chance on him as a developmental receiver.

Buccaneers | WR Johnson on the Bubble?    Sat Jul 9, 11:58 AM

Nate Greer, from Sports Illustrated, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Tyler Johnson could be left off the final roster. There are reports suggesting the team could trade away the third-year pro before the start of the regular season.

Footballguys view: Whether the Buccaneers trade Johnson or just flat-out release him, things look cramped on the roster this summer. Johnson has worked as a no.4 receiver for the Buccaneers over the last couple of seasons. A fifth-round pick out of Minnesota in the 2020 NFL draft, Johnson now has more competition for his roster spot. The Buccaneers already have guys like Scotty Miller and Breshad Perriman there to compete, but they added two UDFA WRs this year who could push for a spot in Jerreth Sterns (Western Kentucky) and Deven Thompkins (Utah State). If WR Chris Godwin is ready for Week 1 it makes things even more cramped for Johnson.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady completed 29-of-37 passes for 326 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 18 against the Carolina Panthers, while WR Scotty Miller actually led the team with 43 rushing yards and a touchdown on two attempts while adding a 9-yard catch. RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn rushed 10 times for 29 yards and a score while adding a pair of catches for 12 yards, and veteran RB Le'Veon Bell rushed three times for 14 yards with a 1-yard touchdown grab on his only target. TE Rob Gronkowski had seven grabs for a game-high 137 yards on 10 targets, while WR Mike Evans posted six catches, 89 yards and two touchdowns. WR Breshad Perriman contributed five receptions for 44 yards on six targets, while WR Tyler Johnson registered five snags for 22 yards.

Buccaneers | Tyler Johnson back in shape    Wed Aug 25, 09:37 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Tyler Johnson came back 'a little heavy' this summer but has since improved his conditioning, according to head coach Bruce Arians. 'He's in good shape now,' Arians said. 'He learned a lesson, but his weight is down and he's in good shape. He's ready to roll.'

Footballguys view: Tyler Johnson is talented but he's still buried on the Buccaneers depth chart. With Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown ahead of him we're not going to see much from Johnson unless injuries hit. Johnson is a player we appreciate in all dynasty formats with an eye on his future when a larger role is there for him.

Buccaneers | Tampa Bay headed for Super Bowl LV    Sun Jan 24, 06:10 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady completed 20-of-36 passes for 280 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in the NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Jan. 24. It will be his 10th Super Bowl appearance, and the Bucs are the first team to play the game in their home stadium. RB Leonard Fournette ran 12 times for 55 yards and a touchdown while adding five receptions for 19 yards, RB Ronald Jones rushed 10 times for 16 yards, WR Chris Godwin racked up five receptions for a team-best 110 yards on nine targets and WR Mike Evans added three receptions for 51 yards and a score on eight targets. WR Scott Miller also cashed in his three targets for two catches, 36 yards and a touchdown, while TE Rob Gronkowski was limited to one catch for 29 yards on his lone target. TE Cameron Brate picked up three grabs for 19 yards and a score, while WR Tyler Johnson rounded things out with one catch for 16 yards. LB Devin White led the way defensively with a staggering game-high 15 total tackles, including nine of the solo variety.

Footballguys view: Brady wasn't the reason the Bucs won, but he did have two good long passes to offset his three interceptions, which his defense did a great job of minimizing in the story of the outcome of the game. Leonard Fournette goes to the Super Bowl with Tom Brady after his 2017 Jaguars team was ousted by Brady. Godwin had great hands deep on his key play early, while Evans hands were more suspect, although the interception off of his hands in the red zone was more on Brady than him. Tampa Bay will be the first team to play the Super Bowl in their home stadium.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady completed 18-of-33 passes for 199 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while also running for a score in the NFC Divisional Round playoff game win against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Jan. 17. RB Leonard Fournette rushed 17 times for 63 yards while adding five grabs for 44 yards and a score on six targets. RB Ronald Jones rumbled 13 times for 62 yards and he didn't have any catches with just one target. WR Cameron Brate had a team-high 50 yards on four receptions, while WR Chris Godwin led the wideouts with 34 yards on four receptions and seven targets. WR Scott Miller had just one catch for 29 yards, WR Tyler Johnson made an unbelievable adjustment for his one catch and 15 yards, while TE Rob Gronkowski finished with one catch for 10 yards. WR Antonio Brown had a grab for 10 yards, and WR Mike Evans had one three-yard touchdown for his only touch of the day.

Buccaneers | Week 10 injury report for Tampa Bay    Fri Nov 13, 03:15 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Jaydon Mickens (non-injury) did not participate in practice Friday, Nov. 13, and is listed as questionable for Week 10 versus the Carolina Panthers. CB Carlton Davis (knee) and OG Ali Marpet (concussion) were limited in practice Friday and are also listed as questionable. DL Ndamukong Suh (non-injury) and LB Jason Pierre-Paul (knee) did not practice Friday, but both players no longer appear on the injury report. WR Tyler Johnson (non-injury) was limited Friday and was also taken off the injury report. LB Shaquil Barrett (shoulder), LB Lavonte David (knee), WR Chris Godwin (finger), DL Steve McLendon (shoulder), WR Scott Miller (hip, groin), CB Sean Murphy-Bunting (groin) and TE Rob Gronkowski (non-injury) practiced in full Friday and have been removed from the injury report as well.

Footballguys view: Davis is the Bucs best corner, so if he's out, Teddy Bridgewater's matchup gets better this weekend.

Buccaneers | Tyler Johnson dealing with injury    Wed Aug 5, 02:06 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Tyler Johnson (undisclosed) has been limited during practice because of an undisclosed injury.

Footballguys view: Johnson was the team's fifth-round pick out of Minnesota and he's got intriguing upside in dynasty formats. He's a big slot receiver with the strength to run through arm tackles. He'll compete for a spot in the pecking order behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

Buccaneers | Seven rookies finalize with Tampa Bay    Tue Jul 28, 06:24 PM

Updating previous stories, Tampa Bay Buccaneers seventh-round pick RB Raymond Calais, sixth-round pick DT Khalil Davis, fifth-round pick WR Tyler Johnson, seventh-round pick LB Chapelle Russell, third-round pick RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn, second-round pick DB Antoine Winfield Jr. and first-round pick OT Tristan Wirfs signed four-year rookie contracts Tuesday, July 28. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Footballguys view: Vaughn could push for the starting job if he can get healthy (currently on the COVID-19 list) and look better than Ronald Jones. Johnson was incredibly productive in college and will be working for the no.3 or no.4 spot on the depth chart behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

Buccaneers | Tyler Johnson signs rookie deal    Mon Jul 20, 04:21 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers fifth-round draft choice WR Tyler Johnson signed a four-year contract with the Buccaneers Monday, July 20. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Johnson is a classic NFL slot receiver, but Chris Godwin was outstanding in that role last and the Bucs might not use a slot receiver as much with Rob Gronkowski and a four deep tight end group. Johnson will likely be one of those receivers who is much more productive in college than the pros.

Buccaneers | Three likely to compete for No. 3 WR job    Sun May 24, 03:05 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WRs Justin Watson, Scott Miller and Tyler Johnson are expected to compete for the No. 3 receiver job during training camp.

Footballguys view: The Buccaneers have Mike Evans and Chris Godwin at the top of the depth chart. Add in three talented tight ends like Rob Gronkowski, O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate and you can see how the no.3 receiver may not get a lot of looks. Watson and Miller have varying levels of pro experience while Johnson is a rookie. A fifth-round pick out of Minnesota, Johnson is limited athletically but knows how to use his frame and strength to win contested catches. We'll see this battle shake out in training camp.

Buccaneers | Tyler Johnson a rookie starter?    Sun Apr 26, 09:28 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Tyler Johnson 'should have an inside track to the starting job' as the No. 3 receiver, according to Jon Ledyard of PewterReport.com.

Footballguys view: A fifth-round pick out of Minnesota, Johnson's game is all about strength and after-the-catch ability. He's a converted quarterback who knows how to do little things like come back to the football and square to the line of scrimmage (favorite traits of quarterbacks). Johnson is strong and can break tackles after the catch plus he has great 'my ball' mentality. He's not a burner but knows how to sit down in a zone and was consistent and reliable in college.
