Lions | Ty Johnson clears protocol    Sat Nov 16, 12:55 PM

Detroit Lions RB Ty Johnson on Saturday, Nov. 16, officially cleared the concussion protocol and has been removed from the team's Week 11 injury report.

Footballguys view: Johnson should be the lead ball-carrier for the Lions as they play the Cowboys in Week 11. In this tough matchup, and with his lack of production so far as the starter, Johnson is just a deep flex play for Fantasy GMs. J.D. McKissic will get work as the team's pass-catching back.

Lions | Week 11 injury report for Detroit    Fri Nov 15, 04:12 PM

Detroit Lions DT Da'Shawn Hand (ankle), QB Matthew Stafford (hip, back) and OT Ricky Wagner (concussion) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 11 against the Dallas Cowboys. DT Damon Harrison (groin, rest), P Sam Martin (abdomen), DE Romeo Okwara (groin) and DB Tracy Walker (knee) were limited in practice Friday, Nov. 15, and are listed as questionable. RB Ty Johnson (concussion) was upgraded to a full practice Friday and is also listed as questionable. WR Danny Amendola (hand), DT John Atkins (wrist), DT Mike Daniels (foot), S Will Harris (quad), S Miles Killebrew (concussion), DT A'Shawn Robinson (ankle, thumb) and C Darius Slay (neck) practiced in full Friday and have been removed from the injury report.

Footballguys view: Wagner being out will hurt a Lions offense already without its starting quarterback against one of the best pass rush units in the league.

Lions | Ty Johnson sits out Wednesday    Wed Nov 13, 04:32 PM

Detroit Lions RB Ty Johnson (concussion) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Footballguys view: The Lions are awfully thin at the running back position. Fantasy GMs in super deep leagues might be considering a Lions back as a 'what the heck' flex but that's about it.

Detroit Lions RB Ty Johnson rushed for 25 yards on seven carries against the New York Giants in Week 8. He also caught one pass for 13 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: Johnson was running behind Tra Carson in a dismaying development for anyone who spent big FAAB bucks on him. He's droppable heading into a matchup with Oakland.

Lions | Ty Johnson better acclimated     Thu Oct 24, 12:38 PM

Detroit Lions RB Ty Johnson said he is feeling 'pretty comfortable' as he assumes more of a workload in his rookie season. 'It's just that the game's starting to slow down a little bit,' Johnson told the Detroit Free Press. 'Because being a rookie it's all fast when you first get in and being able to slow things down mentally, what the defenses, are doing and having coaches and guys like Kerryon (Johnson) and J.D. (McKissic) in my ear talking about certain fronts or certain pressures or whatever block schemes we have for the run game. Just having those guys in my ear at all times has been a big help.'

Footballguys view: Johnson should be the lead ball-carrier for the Lions going forward. We'll see how the rookie responds, and Fantasy GMs can plug him in as a RB3 or flex play. McKissic has always been an interesting player because of his quickness and change-of-pace ability. He's got 'what the heck' flex appeal for Fantasy GMs with a larger role.

Lions | Ty Johnson gets some red-zone work    Sat Aug 24, 02:20 AM

Detroit Lions RB Ty Johnson had four carries for nine yards and caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from QB Matthew Stafford against the Buffalo Bills on Friday, Aug. 23. Johnson has earned a shot with the first-team offense, according to the Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett, who notes Johnson has more speed than the team's other backs and could be a contributor on offense this season.

Footballguys view: The receiving touchdown is helpful for Johnson as he wasn't used that often as a pass-catching threat in college at Maryland. The 2019 sixth-round pick is looking for a spot on the 53-man roster behind Kerryon Johnson, C.J. Anderson and Zach Zenner. In order to make the team, the rookie will have to stand out on special teams.

Lions | Ty Johnson facing uphill battle?    Sat Jul 13, 02:12 AM

Detroit Lions RB Ty Johnson is joining a deep and experienced position group in Detroit, and he'll be given a chance to return kickoffs, which may be his 'ticket onto the roster,' in the opinion of DetroitLions.com's Tim Twentyman.

Footballguys view: A sixth-round pick out of Maryland, Johnson might have to look to the practice squad in 2019. He's an intent runner at 5'10" 205 pounds and does a good job of creating chunk plays. Now, Johnson does have a bad habit of looking to bounce runs outside when looking for a big play. He'll have to learn to take what the defense gives him sometime at the pro level. We'll monitor him in super deep dynasty formats.
