Broncos | Three moves made    Sat Aug 31, 04:19 PM

The Denver Broncos placed LB Von Miller on the suspended list and LB Stewart Bradley (wrist) on Injured Reserve. They also cut OG Ryan Lilja.

Footballguys view: Lilja was added to the roster after the season ending knee injury to Dan Koppen. He may still be bothered by knee and toe injuries. Bradley was competing for playing time as the middle linebacker before this wrist problem. Miller is eligible to return for the team's week seven game against the Colts.

Broncos | Knowshon Moreno, others miss practice    Thu Aug 15, 05:12 PM

Denver Broncos RBs Knowshon Moreno (knee) and Jeremiah Johnson (knee), WRs Quincy McDuffie (hamstring), Greg Orton (ankle) and Lamaar Thomas (concussion), FS Quinton Carter (knee) and TE Joel Dreessen (knee) did not practice Thursday, Aug. 15.

Footballguys view: Moreno has a bruised right knee according to head coach John Fox. He's competing for a spot on the depth chart behind Ronnie Hillman and Montee Ball. He's seen as veteran depth but his durability is a concern.

Broncos | Jeremiah Johnson nursing toe injury    Tue Aug 6, 09:33 PM

Denver Broncos RB Jeremiah Johnson (knee, toe) missed practice time last week due to a knee injury, but he returned for the team's intrasquad scrimmage over the weekend. However, he was missing again Tuesday, Aug. 6, due to a toe ailment.

Footballguys view: Johnson has no more practice squad eligibility left and has to make the final roster if he wants to stay in Denver. He was looking good in training camp with the third team and had a strong performance in the team's scrimmmage last Saturday.

Broncos | Jeremiah Johnson having strong camp    Wed Jul 31, 11:36 PM

Denver Broncos RB Jeremiah Johnson is having a fantasy training camp, but he is competing at a very tough position, with the likes of RBs Ronnie Hillman, Montee Ball, Knowshon Moreno, FB Jacob Hester, Lance Ball and even C.J. Anderson ahead of him in the pecking order.

Footballguys view: Johnson always has a strong training camp only to fade if he gets a shot in the regular season. He can burst outside and is good in the open field. However, he's swallowed up when running inside.

Broncos | Four to compete for No. 4 RB job    Wed May 8, 01:33 PM

Denver Broncos RBs Lance Ball, Jeremiah Johnson, Mario Fannin and C.J. Anderson are expected to compete for the No. 4 running back job during offseason workouts and training camp.

Footballguys view: Ball is the best all-purpose RB in this group. He's good on special teams as well. Johnson is quick and explosive but has failed to impress enough to get on the field. Fannin is big (224 pounds) and fast (4.38 40-yard dash) but hasn't stayed healthy during his pro career after going undrafted out of Auburn in 2011. Anderson was a UDFA for the Broncos this year and has a powerful lower body and good vision.

Broncos | Make practice squad move     Sat Nov 24, 12:18 PM

Broncos | Jeremiah Johnson could be promoted     Thu Nov 22, 07:40 AM

The Denver Broncos could promote RB Jeremiah Johnson from their practice squad to help replace injured RB Willis McGahee (knee, leg). The team could also sign a free agent.

Footballguys view: Johnson has looked good for the team in training camp and might be a better option than signing a street free agent like Steve Slaton.

Broncos | Sign seven to practice squad    Sat Sep 1, 02:25 PM

The Denver Broncos signed DT Ben Garland, SS Duke Ihenacho, TE Cornelius Ingram, RB Jeremiah Johnson, WR Greg Orton, DT Sealver Siliga and OG Wayne Tribue to their practice squad.

Footballguys view: Johnson is the player to watch in deep dynasty leagues. He looked good in the preseason as a runner but did not catch as cleanly as the team would like. Johnson is a big play weapon with the agility to be a force in the open field.

Footballguys view: Knowshon Moreno beat out Jeremiah Johnson for a spot in the backfield. Gerell Robinson was trying to stick with his college quarterback Brock Osweiler, but he missed the cut.

Broncos | Ronnie Hillman projected as No. 2 running back    Tue Jul 31, 03:01 PM

Denver Broncos rookie RB Ronnie Hillman has seen action in training camp on passing-downs. He has shown the necessary speed during practice to quickly get to the corner. Hillman's snaps have come in rotation with RBs Lance Ball and Jeremiah Johnson, which follows starting RB Willis McGahee in drills. Hillman projects to be the team's change-of-pace back behind McGahee.

Footballguys view: Hillman fits better in a Peyton Manning-led offense than Willis McGahee. He has the foot speed to run the stretch play and he's a better receiver out of the backfield than McGahee. He might take some time to win over John Fox, who tends to favor veterans, but Hillman is a perfect late-round running back to put on your bench for the first month or two of the season while his role and game grow.

Broncos | Knowshon Moreno placed on IR    Wed Nov 16, 04:10 PM

The Denver Broncos placed RB Knowshon Moreno (knee) on Injured Reserve, ending his 2011 season. In a corresponding move, the team signed practice squad RB Jeremiah Johnson to their active roster.

Footballguys view: Moreno has failed to stay healthy or play up to his draft status during his short NFL career. We think dynasty league owners should go ahead and cut bait on Moreno since he's unlikely to do much even if he goes to another team.

Broncos | Could sign another running back     Wed Oct 26, 08:14 AM

Denver Broncos executive vice president John Elway said the team will explore its options as far as adding a third running back with RB Willis McGahee (hand) out. RB Jeremiah Johnson is an option from the practice squad, but Elway also didn't rule out signing a free agent.

Footballguys view: Without McGahee in the lineup we predict John Fox will use a RBBC to fill his role. Knowshon Moreno is likely to start, but will split time with Lance Ball. We see Moreno as the best receiving option while Ball will be the short-yardage and power back. Adding Johnson would make sense for the team. He looked good in training camp and the preseason.

The Denver Broncos signed free-agent WR Quan Cosby (Bengals) to the active roster and TE John Nalbone (Bengals) to their practice squad Tuesday, Sept. 20, and waived RB Jeremiah Johnson in a corresponding move.

Broncos | Ty Warren placed on IR    Sat Sep 17, 02:49 PM

The Denver Broncos have placed DT Ty Warren (triceps) on Injured Reserve, ending his 2011 season. In a corresponding move, the team signed practice squad RB Jeremiah Johnson to their active roster.

Footballguys view: A big hit for the Broncos defense here. They were hopeful that Warren would be able to return to the field later in the year. He was looking good in training camp before getting injured. The Broncos defense is weak in the middle of the defensive line and we expect teams to run on them day and night each week.

Broncos | Jeremiah Johnson expected to be activated    Fri Sep 16, 08:44 PM

The Denver Broncos signed DL Jeremy Beal, WR D'Andre Goodwin, OT Adam Grant, RB Jeremiah Johnson, S Kyle McCarthy, WR Eron Riley, FB Austin Sylvester and QB Adam Weber to the practice squad Sunday, Sept. 4.

Footballguys view: Riley made huge plays for the Broncos in the final preseason game and was a lock to make the practice squad. Johnson gives the team good depth at the RB position and could play a role for the team if injuries hit.

Broncos | Make roster moves to get to 53    Sat Sep 3, 02:29 PM

The Denver Broncos have waived QB Adam Weber, RBs Austin Sylvester and Jeremiah Johnson, WR Britt Davis, D'Andre Goodwin, Greg Orton and Eron Riley, TE Dan Gronkowski, OL Stanley Daniels, Adam Grant and Eric Olsen, DL Jeremy Beal, Ronnell Brown, Jeremy Jarmon and DeMario Pressley, LB Alvin Bowen, CB Brandon Bing and S Kyle McCarthy. The team also released WR David Anderson. RB Brandon Minor (undisclosed), WR Jamel Hamler (back) and CB Syd'Quan Thompson (Achilles') were placed on Injured Reserve, ending their 2011 seasons.

Footballguys view: A few surprises here. Many thought David Anderson would make the final roster but he was outplayed in the preseason by Eron Riley. Jeremiah Johnson looked good in training camp but was inconsistent in the team's preseason games. Jarmon was involved in the Jabar Gaffney trade but didn't impress enough to make the roster. Some of these guys will be brought back on the practice squad if they clear waivers.

Redskins | Jeremiah Johnson released    Wed Oct 27, 05:21 PM

The Washington Redskins released RB Jeremiah Johnson Wednesday, Oct. 27, according to The Washington Post's Jason Reid.

Texans | Jeremiah Johnson, Chris Henry to see time Thursday    Thu Sep 2, 04:15 PM

Houston Texans RBs Jeremiah Johnson and Chris J. Henry will have featured roles in the team's final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 2, according to HoustonTexans.com's Nick Scurfield. 'Those two guys will have to step up and make this team this week,' Kubiak said. 'I know we've only got four (running backs), but that doesn't mean that's our four. So this is a big, big game for Jeremiah and for Chris as we head into the season.' Johnson has moved up to third on the depth chart and led the team with five carries for 33 yards in the preseason opener. Henry only has four carries for eight yards this preseason, but has shown bursts of talent in practice. 'Jeremiah has shown good run ability; needs to shore himself up in all the other phases of the game to go out there and work with Matt Schaub and those guys,' Kubiak said. 'Henry continues to do a few good things for Joe (Marciano).'

Footballguys view: Johnson is an electric back who is very dangerous in the open field because of his footwork and natural agility. He teamed up with Jonathan Stewart in college to give Oregon one helluva one-two punch, but missed all of last season due to a shoulder injury. Chris Henry is a big back who can get up to top speed in a hurry. He's not creative or elusive in the open field, but he does like to run over unsuspecting defenders.

Texans | Spreading the wealth at running back    Sun Aug 1, 01:45 PM

Houston Texans RBs Arian Foster, Steve Slaton, Ben Tate, Chris J. Henry and Jeremiah Johnson all touched the football during reps Sunday, Aug. 1, reports Nick Scurfield. The team is dividing the reps almost evenly between all of the backs, as everyone but Johnson saw two carries.

Footballguys view: Arian Foster is the front runner on the depth chart right now, with Steve Slaton and rookie Ben Tate behind him. Their ranking could change by the time the regular season gets here, and many believe Tate could take over (and star) for the team. We feel Foster can hang onto the starting job if he doesn't fumble the ball and stays healthy. Slaton should be used as a change of pace runner/receiver, and Tate could see the field when the Texans get in the red zone.

Texans | RB reps will be divided equally    Fri Jul 30, 12:47 PM

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said RBs Arian Foster, Steve Slaton, Ben Tate, Chris J. Henry and Jeremiah Johnson will receive equal reps during practice, reports HoustonTexans.com's Nick Scurfield.

Footballguys view: Foreshadowing the split during the season? Whatever the situation is when camp breaks, expect it to change during the season as Kubiak has proven to be fickle about his RB depth chart in the past.

Texans | RB Moats, Henry, Johnson on the roster bubble?    Thu Jun 3, 01:08 PM

Jordan Godwin, from the Houston Chronicle, notes that outside of Steve Slaton and Arian Foster, nothing is certain for running backs trying to secure a roster spot, coach Gary Kubiak said. The roster carries Ryan Moats, Jeremiah Johnson, Chris Henry and rookie Ben Tate, but Kubiak said someone likely will be cut before training camp. "For those guys, it's a battle," Kubiak said. "We probably won't be able to take them all to camp, so the battle is right now. (They are) good young players, but obviously Foster and Steve are leading the group right now."

Footballguys view: Foster, Slaton, and Tate are likely safe so that leaves Ryan Moats, Jeremiah Johnson, and Chris Henry on the roster bubble. Moats has looked good in limited playing time with the Texans, but needs to stay healthy and hang onto the ball if he wants to make the team. Johnson went undrafted out of Oregon last year, and spent his entire rookie season on Injured Reserve due to a shoulder injury. He's an electric playmaker, who can be effectively used as a receiver out of the backfield. Chris Henry has never played up to his potential. He's big and fast in a straight line, but fails to get to top speed in a hurry and lacks the instincts needed to make it in the NFL. We'd say Henry could be the odd man out in this race, but we'll have to see how it shakes out in training camp.

  Texans | J. Johnson waived-injured    Thu Aug 6, 09:58 PM

The Associated Press reports Houston Texans RB Jeremiah Johnson (shoulder) has been waived-injured.

Footballguys view: It looks like he'll have to have surgery on his injured shoulder, but could find a spot in camp with another team next year.

Texans | Rookie Johnson to have shoulder surgery?    Thu Aug 6, 07:03 PM

John McClain, from the Houston Chronicle, reports rookie RB Jeremiah Johnson who has a dislocated shoulder that pops in and out, won't get any contact during this training camp. He was on the field Thursday morning because the Texans didn't have pads on. The coaches wanted to see him get the ball, make the right cut and go. Johnson looked good running and receiving. It's looking more and more like he's going to have to undergo shoulder surgery and be replaced on injured reserve whether it's with the Texans or another team.

Footballguys view: The undrafted rookie was already a longshot to make the team, but he has the skill set to be effective in the NFL - if only he can stay healthy. His injury has opened the door for fellow rookie undrafted free agent Arian Foster. Coaches have been raving about Foster's performance in camp, and if Chris Brown goes down with injury (again) Foster could be the power/change of pace back for the Texans behind Steve Slaton.

Texans | J. Johnson to wear shoulder brace during camp    Thu Jun 18, 06:25 PM

John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans RB Jeremiah Johnson will wear a shoulder brace during training camp while he is competing for a roster spot. He suffered a dislocated shoulder during his senior season in college.

Footballguys view: Johnson was seemingly hurt every year he was at Oregon. He did put up some nice numbers in college, but his stats were inflated by the Duck's spread option attack. The holes are bigger, and the reads are easier when running out of that type of system. Johnson could contribute in a situational role but will have to prove that he can stay healthy if he wants to stick around in the pros.

Texans | Want J. Johnson to lose weight before camp    Thu Jun 18, 06:17 PM

John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports the Houston Texans want RB Jeremiah Johnson to lose around 10 pounds before the start of training camp. He currently weighs 220 pounds, and the team wants him to report to camp at 210 pounds.

Footballguys view: Johnson weighing in at 220 pounds is a little surprising for the scatback from Oregon. Apparently Johnson wanted to bulk up because he has a history of nagging injuries and many scouts felt that he didn't have the size to stand up to an NFL beating. He is more quick than fast, but when he gets in the open field he can make ankle-breaking moves to get by defenders. He has great field vision and does a good job of keeping his feet under him, even after contact. Johnson's skill set is similar to that of Steve Slaton, so he wouldn't really be the change of pace back the team is looking for behind their starter. However, he is very talented and could develop for the team on the practice squad.

Texans | J. Johnson shows up to minicamp overweight    Wed Jun 17, 09:52 PM

Texans | Complement for Slaton to be determined    Wed May 20, 07:45 PM

Brooke Bentley, of HoustonTexans.com, reports the Houston Texans will use OTAs, minicamps and training camp to determine the ideal complement back for starting RB Steve Slaton. The candidates currently include RBs Chris Brown, Ryan Moats, Jeremiah Johnson and Arian Foster. The team may still find another back elsewhere, too, as general manager Rick Smith said the team will continue to look to upgrade the talent through the summer.

Footballguys view: The backup position behind Steve Slaton is wide open and the Texans have a deep and somewhat talented backfield. Chris Brown has been very effective but rarely healthy so far in his pro career. Ryan Moats seems to have revived his career since he left Philadelphia and has a similar skill set to Steve Slaton. Jeremiah Johnson went undrafted this year but he has great quickness and can make people miss with ankle-breaking moves in the open field. Arian Foster runs with good power and determination but doesn't have the speed to get to the corner in the NFL. We'll have to wait and see how this shakes out during training camp.

Texans | J. Johnson signs    Mon Apr 27, 04:18 PM

The Houston Texans have signed undrafted free-agent RB Jeremiah Johnson (Oregon). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: It was surprising to many draftniks that Jeremiah Johnson went undrafted. They were expected to draft a RB this weekend to compliment Steve Slaton. Johnson is a smaller back that played in the spread option in college and could make for a nice receiving option out of the backfield. They also signed RB Arian Foster from Tennessee.
